Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. today in Plainview Cemetery with Tommy Beck, pastor of First United Methodist Church in Lockney, officiating. Arrangements are by Lemons Funeral Home. Mr. Ames was born and raised in Plainview. He graduated from Plainview High School and served in the Air Force. He worked at Green Machinery and Southwestern Public Service Co. before starting his own business, Sign Paintings U.S. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church. Mr. Ames married Floetta Ames in 1969 at Petersburg. Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Marcy Wallace of Vernon and Kay McCulloch of Plainview; a son, Trent Ames of Santa Fe, N.M.; and a sister, Mary Clarice Tinsdale of San Jose, Calif. Velma Skaggs MOBEETIE - Velma Skaggs, 89, died Wednesday, Sept. 10, 1997. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in Mobeetie Cemetery with the Rev. Ralph Hovey, retired Baptist minister, officiating. Arrangements are by Wright Funeral Home of Wheeler. Mrs. Skaggs was born in Marietta, Okla. She moved to Mobeetie from Ravia, Okla., in 1929. She married Perry Money Skaggs in 1926 at Madill, Okla. He died in 1968. She also was preceded in death by a son, W.T. Skaggs, in 1990. Mrs. Skaggs was a homemaker and a member of the Church of Christ. Survivors include two daughters, Brondell Skaggs of Mobeetie and Kathryn Keeton of Canadian; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Elsewhere A. Keith Montague CHARLOTTE, N.C. - A. Keith Montague, 68, a former Amarillo resident, died Saturday, Sept. 6, 1997. Services were Monday in Wilson Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in Charlotte. Mr. Montague was born and raised in Amarillo. He was a self-employed architect for 30 years. He was an Army veteran of the Korean War. Survivors include his wife, Janet; two sons, Rick Montague and Scott Montague, both of Charlotte; two daughters, Penny Neeley and Tracy Montague, both of Charlotte; his mother, Marion Montague of Charlotte; and four grandchildren. The family can be reached at 4017 Sheffield, Charlotte, N.C., 28205. Ancella Arlene Willner HOUSTON - Ancella Arlene Willner, 45, a former Amarillo resident, died Tuesday, Sept. 9, 1997. Services will be at 11:30 a.m. today in Memorial Oaks Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Larry Sparks officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Oaks Cemetery. Mrs. Willner was born in Seymour. She moved with her family to Amarillo, where she attended Caprock High School. She was a member of the band and was runnerup for homecoming queen. She graduated from Caprock in 1971. She married Paul Willner in 1971. Mrs. Willner was a homemaker and a member of Jersey Village Baptist Church. Survivors include her husband; a son, Zach Willner; grandparent, K.B. Ritchie; parents, Anson and Wannell Ray; and sisters, Glenda Butts and Paula Hamilton. The family suggests memorials be to the American Cancer Society. Nathaniel Cherry Jr. FORT WORTH - Nathaniel "Big D'' Cherry Jr., 82, died Wednesday, Aug. 27, 1997. Services were at 11 a.m. Saturday in Thompson Chapel United Methodist Church. Burial was in Cedar Hill Cemetery by Williams Funeral Home. Mr. Cherry was born in Cameron and graduated from O.J. Thomas High School in Cameron. He received an associate's degree from Paul Quinn College in Waco and a bachelor's degree from Huston-Tillotson College in Austin. He was an Army veteran of World War II and had attended the Army's Water Purification School. He also attended the Texas College of Embalming in Fort Worth and the Texas Southern University Extension School in Fort Worth. Mr. Cherry retired as a chemist for Texas Penothiazine Co. He was a member of Thompson Chapel United Methodist Church and the Epsilon Alpha chapter of the Omega Psi Phi fraternity. He was preceded in death by his wife, Nellie Mae Davison. He also was preceded in death by a brother, Marvin G. Cherry, of Amarillo. Survivors include two daughters, Cheryl Ann Kennard and Wylma Jean Lewis, both of Fort Worth; his mother, Ruby Lee Cherry of Amarillo; two brothers, V.L. Cherry of Pittsburgh and Synada W. Cherry of Amarillo; two sisters, Nida Mae Scott of Vacaville, Calif., and Merylen Davis of Amarillo; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Harriet Pierson Lane LUBBOCK - Harriet Pierson Lane, 66, died Thursday, Sept. 11, 1997. Services will be at 4:30 p.m. Saturday in Sanders Funeral Home Memorial Chapel with Sammy O'Dell, lay pastor of Worldwide Church of God in Amarillo, officiating. Burial will be in Resthaven Memorial Park. Mrs. Lane was born in El Paso and grew up in Sanderson. She graduated as valedictorian from Sanderson High School and attended the University of Texas at Austin and Texas Tech University at Lubbock. She married J. Kight Lane in 1950 at Sanderson. She moved to Lubbock from Sherman in 1978. Mrs. Lane was a homemaker and a member of Worldwide Church of God. She was an artist and a member of the Lubbock Art Society and the Gold Key Honor Society of Texas Tech. Survivors include her husband; two daughters, Julia O'Dell of Amarillo and Virginia Bolzern of Aurora, Colo.; two sisters, Colleen P. Willard of New Braunfels and Margaret Kiel of Seguin; and two granddaughters. The family requests memorials be to a favorite charity. Leonor Bernal Quiros SNYDER - Leonor Bernal Quiros, 62, died Wednesday, Sept. 10, 1997. Rosary will be recited at 7:30 p.m. today in Wright Colonial Funeral home Chapel. Mass will be celebrated Saturday in Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church by the Rev. Patrick Maher. Burial will be in Snyder Cemetery. Mrs. Quiros was born in Snyder. She married Simon Quiros in 1949 at Snyder. She worked for the Snyder Independent School District for 23 years. She was a parishioner of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. Survivors include her husband; four sons, Juan Bernal Quiros of Snyder, Miguel Bernal Quiros of Clovis, N.M., and Alfredo Bernal Quiros and Simon Quiros Jr., both of Amarillo; six daughters, Petra B.Q. Amarillo Vivian Smith Vivian Smith, 73, of Amarillo, died Wednesday, Sept. 10, 1997. She graduated from Fort Worth CityCounty Teaching Hospital and worked for Memorial Hospital and Dr. O.J. Richardson in Dumas. She had been a school nurse for the Canyon Independent School District for a number of years. She was a member of Paramount Terrace Christian Church. She married Hollis Smith in 1946 at Dumas. Survivors include her husband; a daughter, Susan Smith-Ince of Amarillo; a son, Michael Smith of Canyon; a sister, Irene Kral of Fort Collins, Colo.; a brother, Leroy Cole of Austin; six grandchildren; and a great-grandchild. Sughrue, 62, of Amarillo, died Wednesday, Sept. 10, 1997. Cremation will be by Rector Funeral Home, 2800 S. Osage St. Mr. Sughrue was born in Scotland, Texas. He moved to Amarillo in 1983 from Grand Junction, Colo. He was a master plumber. He married Eva Brown in 1972 at Bakersfield, Calif. Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Debra Jean Flippin of Taft, Calif.; three sons, Eddie Wayne Sughrue of Kennedy, Ronald Anthony Sughrue of Amarillo and Michael Lee Valdez of Bakersfield; and nine grandchildren. The body will not be available for viewing. Junior H. Moore Junior H. Moore, 67, of Amarillo, died Wednesday, Sept. 10, 1997. Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in Memorial Park Funeral Home Chapel of Memories, 6969 E. Interstate 40. Entombment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery East Mausoleum. Military honors will be by Disabled American Veterans Chapter No. 26. Mr. Moore was born in Amma, W.Va. He moved to Amarillo in 1962 from La Junta, Colo. He married Rhonda Bradshaw in 1994 at Las Vegas. Mr. Moore was a truck driver for Plains Transportation. He was a former employee of Jack B. Kelley. He was a member of Disabled American Veterans Chapter No. 26 and Pine Grove Church. Survivors include his wife; two sons, Tim Moore and Tom Moore, both of Amarillo; two stepsons, Richard Tuttle and Jason Tuttle, both of Amarillo; a daughter, Camelia Schmimheaer of Oklahoma City; a stepdaughter, Heather Tuttle of Amarillo; three brothers, Bob Moore of Midlothian, Pete Moore of Fredricksburg, Va., and Ray Moore of Spencer, W.Va.; two sisters, Wanda Troxel of Adair, Okla., and Geraldine Ross of Spencer, W.Va.; and six grandchildren. The family requests memorials be to a favorite charity. Alberta Jones Alberta Jones, 79, of Amarillo, died Monday, Sept. 8, 1997. Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. B.F. Roberts Jr., pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Llano Cemetery by Warford-Walker Mortuary Inc., 509 N. Hughes St. Mrs. Jones was born in Meridian, Miss., and attended high school there. She moved to Amarillo in 1946. She married Odell Jones in 1944. Mrs. Jones was a homemaker and a domestic engineer for Norman Ecker for many years. She was a charter member of Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church and had been secretary of Circle 4 and a member of the usher board. She was a former member of the Order of the Eastern Star. Survivors include four sons, Odell Jones Jr., Ricky Jones and Ray Jones, all of Amarillo, and Glenn Jones of Laguna Niguel, Calif.; nine grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren. The family will be at 4405 Baltus Place. New Mexico Janell E. Reed CLOVIS, N.M. - Janell E. Reed, 76, died Tuesday, Sept. 9, 1997. Services will be at 2 p.m. today in Steed-Todd Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Billy E. Hines Jr. officiating. Burial will be in Mission Garden of Memories. Mrs. Reed was born in Snyder, Texas, and had been a longtime resident of Clovis. She married Bob Reed in 1942 at Portales. She was a member of Central Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by a son, Carwin Reed, in 1985. Survivors include her husband; a son, Darwin Reed of Covington, La.; and a brother, C.B. Aucutt of Clovis. Iva M. Owens PORTALES, N.M. - Iva M. Owens, 87, died Wednesday, Sept. 10, 1997. Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in Wheeler Mortuary Chapel with the Rev. Joe Heniger officiating. Burial will be in Portales Cemetery. Mrs. Owens was born in Neola, Mo., and moved to Arkansas when she was about 4 years old. They later moved to Manter, Kan., where she attended school. She lived in Manter until 1930, when she moved to Booker, Texas. She married John Owens in 1926 at Kansas. They moved to Portales in 1939. Mrs. Owens was a paper hanger. She taught the beginners Sunday school at First Assembly of God Church for many years. Mr. Owens died in 1965. Mrs. Owens also was preceded in death by a daughter, Joyce Ann Owens. Survivors include four sons, William J. Owens and Kenneth E. Owens, both of Carlsbad, Marion D. Owens of Portales and Sherman L. Owens of Odessa, Texas; a daughter, Maxine J. Young of Portales; two sisters, Lorena Cowser and Edna Simmons, both of Las Vegas, Nev.; 10 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren. Michael J. Dean Dabau TUCUMCARI, N.M. - Michael J. Dean Dabau, 16, died Monday, Sept. 8, 1997. Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in First Baptist Church with the Rev. Bob Miller officiating. Burial will be in Tucumcari Memorial Park Cemetery by Dunn Funeral Home. Mr. Dabau was born in Amarillo and had been a resident of Tucumcari for many years. He attended the Tucumcari public school system. Survivors include his mother, Beverly Dean of Tucumcari; his father, David Dabau of Bosque Farms; a brother, Derek Lansbury of Tucumcari; grandparents, Jim and Barbara Dow, and John and Betty Dabau, all of Tucumcari, and Jane Ship of Bosque Farms; and great-grandparents, Marjorie White, and Lawrence and Louise Dow, all of Tucumcari. The body will be available for viewing at the funeral home until service time.
