Trice CARLSBAD, N.M. - Milton E. "Buddy'' Trice, 76, died Wednesday, May 14, 1997. Cremation was by Sunset Gardens Direct Cremation Services. Memorial services will be from 6 to 8 p.m. June 26 at Hillcrest Baptist Church Fellowship Hall. Mr. Trice was born in Childress, Texas, and had lived in Carlsbad for 51 years. During World War II, he served in the Navy aboard the submarine USS Loggerhead in the China Sea. He was an automobile dealer and a member of Elks Lodge No. 1558 and the Sportsman Club. He was a Baptist. He married Robbie Davis in 1940. Survivors include his wife; a daughter, SueAnn Caffey of Abilene, Texas; a brother, R. Weldon "Bird'' Trice of Canyon, Texas; four grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. The family suggests memorials be to Hospice Services Inc., 1031 N. Thomas, Carlsbad, N.M. 88220. Mike Zunich CLOVIS, N.M. - Michael Raymond Zunich Sr., 40, died Wednesday, June 11, 1997. Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. today in Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Community. Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday in Our Lady of Guadalupe by the Rev. Daniel M. Balizan. Burial will be in Mission Garden of Memories with military honors by the New Mexico National Guard Clovis Unit. Arrangements are by Muffley Funeral Home. Mr. Zunich was born in Clovis and had been a lifetime resident of Clovis. He graduated from Clovis High School. He married Alicia Maestas in 1976 at Hereford, Texas. He was a supply sergeant in the Army National Guard before becoming disabled in 1992. He was a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Community and American Legion Post No. 25. Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Michelle Zunich of the home; a son, Michael R. Zunich Jr. of the home; his father, Joe Zunich of Sacramento, Calif.; his mother, Preddie Zunich of Clovis; two brothers, John Zunich of Clovis and Jeff Zunich of Sacramento; and two sisters, twin sister Kathy Lopez of Lubbock, Texas, and Stacey Zunich of Sacramento. Walter Morales Andrade PORTALES, N.M. - Walter Morales Andrade, 4, died Thursday, June 12, 1997. Rosary will be recited at 6 p.m. today in Muffley Funeral Home. He moved to Portales two years ago. He was of the Catholic faith. Villanueva PORTALES, N.M. - Rebecca M. Villanueva, 75, died Thursday, June 12, 1997. Rosary will be recited at 7:30 p.m. today in St. Helen Catholic Church. Mass of the Resurrection will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in St. Helen Catholic Church with the Rev. Anthony Martinez officiating. Burial will be in Portales Cemetery by Wheeler Mortuary of Portales Inc. Mrs. Villanueva was born in Encino and moved to Villanueva in 1926. She married Antonio Villanueva in 1941 at Villanueva. In 1947 they moved from Colorado to the Bethel community west of Portales. They moved into Portales in 1956. She worked at ENMRSH and later at the Children's Academy. From about 1985 until 1990, she worked at the Head Start Program in Portales. She was a member of St. Helen Catholic Church. She also was a foster grandparent for several years. Survivors include seven sons, Domingo Villanueva, Robert Villanueva, Anthony Villanueva, Sam Villanueva and Richard Villanueva, all of Portales, Vince Villanueva of Clovis and Rudy Villanueva of Albuquerque; two daughters, Bertha Rey of Andrews, Texas, and Priscilla Villanueva of Portales; her stepmother, Chanita Martinez of Villanueva; a brother, Herman Bachicha of Colorado Springs, Colo.; a sister, Josephine Sena of Texico; 23 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren. Monte Wike officiating. Burial will be in Fluvanna Cemetery by Bell-Cypert-Seale Funeral Home of Snyder. Mrs. Landrum was born in Oakhill, Okla. She married Henry Clay Landrum in 1954 at Lovington, N.M. She retired as a cafeteria worker for SISD. She attended Fluvanna Methodist Church and was a past worthy matron of the Order of Eastern Star. Survivors include her husband; two sons, Mike Landrum of Fort Gordon, Ga., and Neely Landrum of Bovina; three sisters, Ioawana Cotten of El Reno, Okla., Mary Frances McCurry of Snyder and Nadine Palacious of Denton; two brothers, Floyd James Jennings Jr. of Snyder and David Jennings of Andrews; and four grandchildren. Miles Mathers Durham WOODLANDS - Miles Mathers Durham, 77, died Thursday, June 5, 1997. Private memorial services will be in Amarillo. Mr. Durham was born in Miami, Texas. He graduated in 1942 from the University of Oklahoma with a bachelor of science degree in petroleum engineering. He was honorably discharged from the Army Air Corps in 1943. He worked for Shell Oil Co.'s midcontinental division for 38 years and was dispatched to many parts of the Midwest and Canada. In 1981, he retired from Shell Canada and returned to Texas, where he opened the Houston office of Coho Oil Co. He had been married to Jane McHam Durham for 50 years. Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Peggy Thompson of Calgary, Alberta, Canada, and Lynn Torsher of Rochester, Minn.; a son, Douglas Durham of Houston; a sister, Evelyn Mitchell of Canadian; and three grandchildren. The family suggests memorials be to Cal Farley's Boys Ranch, P.O. Box 1890, Amarillo, Texas 79105. Maudie Marie Holt Marshall HOUSTON - Maudie Marie Holt Marshall, 89, died Thursday, June 12, 1997. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in Holt Cemetery in Hutchinson County. Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. June 21 in the Chapel of First Presbyterian Church in Houston with the Rev. Asa Hunt officiating. Arrangements are by George H. Lewis & Sons Funeral Directors. Mrs. Marshall was born in the Holt community of Hutchinson County. She attended the Holt school until transferring to Goodwell High School, which was a part of Goodwell A&M College at Goodwell, Okla. She graduated from Spearman High School in 1926. She attended the University of Texas from 1926 to 1927 and West Texas University at Canyon from 1927 to 1929. In 1929 she returned to the University of Texas and received a bachelor's degree in home economics in 1931. At West Texas University, Mrs. Marshall was a member of Kappa Omnicron Phi. At the University of Texas, she was a member of Phi Mu. After graduating, she was employed as a home demonstration agent with the Texas Extension Service at Texas A&M University. She worked in Grimes County from 1932 to 1934, when she transferred to Harris County and became an assistant home demonstration agent working with 4-H Club girls. She resigned her position and married Arch Bruce Marshall in 1942. He preceded her in death. Mrs. Marshall was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Houston and spent two years as circle chairman and one year in charge of Joy Gift. She later devoted 20 years to genealogical research. She had published four family history books. She was a member of Chapter VIII, the Colonial Dames of America, the Samuel Sorrell Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, National Society of Magna Carta Dames, the San Jacinto Chapter of the Daughters of the Republic of Texas and the Robert E. Lee Chapter of the United Daughters of the Confederacy. Mrs. Marshall also was a member of the Houston Colony Society of Mayflower Descendants in the state of Texas. Survivors include four brothers, O.C. Holt of Amarillo, Dr. Joseph Newton of Fort Worth, and Fred Holt and Nolan Holt, both of Spearman; and a sister, Myrle May Holt of Spearman. Bernice, Spearman, Texas 79081. Retha Leatherwood ABERNATHY - Retha Leatherwood, 76, of Lubbock, a former Abernathy resident, died Thursday, June 12, 1997. Graveside services will be at 4 p.m. today in Abernathy Cemetery with Gene Leatherwood, son of the deceased, officiating. Arrangements are by Abell Funeral Home. Mrs. Leatherwood was born in Boswell, Okla. She married Hallie L. Leatherwood in 1938 at Honey Grove. He died in 1991. She also was preceded in death by a daughter, Bernice Evans, in 1996. She moved from Shallowater to New Deal in 1951 and to Abernathy in 1969. She moved to Lubbock in 1995. Survivors include three sons, Ray Leatherwood of Valley View, Gene Leatherwood of Lubbock and J.W. Leatherwood of Denver City; two daughters, Loetta Russell of Lubbock and Ruth Cox of Timberon, N.M.; two brothers, Loranza Shaw of Hereford and Doyle Shaw of Amarillo; four sisters, Jo Hardy of Lubbock, Eva Sanders of Clovis, Calif., and Ruth Teal and Nadine Beatty, both of Manteca, Calif.; 18 grandchildren; and 24 great-grandchildren. Services will be at 3 p.m. Saturday in First Christian Church with Mike Dumler and Brian Ingalls, associate pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Texhoma Cemetery by Dawson-Welch Funeral Home. Mr. Cooper was born in Boise City. He was raised in Texhoma and graduated from Texhoma High School in 1995. During high school he was active in track. Following high school he attended Liberal Vocational Technical School in Liberal, Kan. He studied to become a machinist. After finishing school he worked in Texhoma. He and his father also were caretakers of Texhoma Cemetery. Survivors include his parents, Bill and Wynona Cooper of Texhoma; and a sister, Bridget Branham of Stratford. Grubbs, 88, died Wednesday, June 11, 1997. Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in Friona United Methodist Church with the Rev. Don Boren, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Friona Cemetery by EllisBlackwell Funeral Home. Mr. Grubbs was born in Stanford. He married Mary Gaynell Thomas in 1937 at Lockney. He had lived in Friona since 1953, moving from Kress. He retired from farming in 1973. He was a member of Friona United Methodist Church. Survivors include his wife; five daughters, Elizabeth Ann McLellan of Friona, Willie Grace Skelton of Hereford, Bennie Mae Tinnin of Bell Ranch, N.M., Ruby Lee Fairchild of Austin and Mary Jane Clements of Amarillo; two sisters, Grace Dewberry of Torrance, Calif., and Zona Mae Lanford of Amarillo; 12 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren. Prayer services were at 7 p.m. Thursday in Lemons Funeral Home Memorial Chapel. Services will be at 2 p.m. today in Memorial Chapel with Alicia Medina of Pentecostal Holiness Church and Reuben Rivera of Christian Fellowship of Friona officiating. Burial will be in Plainview Memorial Park. Mrs. Perez was born and raised in Coleman before moving to Edinburg. She moved to Friona in 1958 and to Plainview in 1978. She married Leoncio Perez in 1934 at Edinburg. He died in 1969. She also was preceded in death by a daughter, Margie Flores, in 1994. She was a Baptist and a Sunday school teacher. Survivors include five daughters, Lydia Cruz, Josie Gomez and Mary Perez, all of Plainview, Olivia Jones of Friona and Hilda Bocanegra of DeLeon; two brothers, Cruz Guerrero and Antonio Guerrero, both of Los Angeles; 12 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. William Bryan Williams CHILDRESS - William Bryan Williams, 87, of Odessa, a former Childress resident, died Wednesday, June 11, 1997. Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in First Baptist Church Chapel with the Rev. Tommy Sims of Childress officiating. Burial will be in Childress Cemetery by Seigler Funeral Home of Paducah. Mr. Williams was born in Morgan Mill, Erath County, and moved to Childress County at an early age. He attended school in the Garden Valley community of Childress County. He was a veteran of the Army. He attended Barber College and was a partner in the City Barber Shop on Commerce Street for many years. He was a member of the Baptist church and the Veterans of Foreign Wars. Mr. Williams married Dixie Nash in 1953 at Paducah. They lived in Paducah for a short time before moving to Childress. They had been residents of Odessa for the past nine years. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Judy Ann Williams, in 1952. Survivors include his wife; two stepsons, Larry Nash and E.I. Nash Jr., both of Odessa; a sister, Johnnie Bridges of Childress; seven grandchildren; 14 greatgrandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren. The family will receive visitors from 7 to 9 p.m. today at Johnson Funeral Home in Childress. Bessie Tanzie WELLINGTON - Bessie Tanzie, 45,died Monday, June 9, 1997. Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday in Fairview Cemetery. Arrangements are by Adams Funeral Home. Mrs. Tanzie was born in Wellington. She graduated from Wellington High School and from the Clarendon College LVN School. She was an LVN at Wellington Care Center and a member of Greater Mount Zion Baptist Church. She married J.S. Tanzie in 1992 at Wellington. Survivors include her husband; a son, Terry Lynn Sterling of Wellington; two brothers, Thomas Sterling of Wellington and Robert Sterling of California; and three sisters, Rosie Lee Thomas of Denton, Lynette Sterling of Arizona and Latrice Sterling of Norfolk, Va. Leta Chastain McClendon PLAINVIEW - Leta Chastain McClendon, 99, died Wednesday, June 11, 1997. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. today in Plainview Cemetery with Elder Joe Longoria of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints officiating. Arrangements are by Lemons Funeral Home. Mrs. McClendon was born in Durant, Okla., and moved to Kress at an early age. She grew up in Kress and attended school there. She moved to Aiken in 1933 and worked as a nanny. She married Edgar Franklin McClendon II in 1935 at Clovis, N.M. He died in 1977. She also was preceded in death by a daughter, Dorothy Nichols, in 1965. After marrying, she moved to Plainview. She was a member of the Mormon Church, the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary and the American Legion. Survivors include a daughter, Mary Hill of Hale Center; a son, Eddie McClendon of El Paso; three grandsons; five great-granddaughters; and four greatgreat-grandchildren. Chester V. Wootton CANADIAN - Chester V. Wootton, 89, died Thursday, June 12, 1997. Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in Central Baptist Church with the Rev. Rick Timmons, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Edith Ford Memorial Cemetery by Stickley-Hill Funeral Directors. Mr. Wootton was born in Ingram. He married Clara Bell Rogers in 1931 at Willow, Okla. They moved to Canadian in 1931 from Willow. He was a farmer, rancher and member of Central Baptist Church. Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Ima Jean Curnutt of Leadville, Colo., and Joyce Howard of Glazier; three sons, Tommy Wootton of Amarillo, Roger Wootton of Ranger and Dwayne Wootton of Canyon; 17 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and a great-greatgranddaughter. The family requests memorials be to Central Baptist Church or a favorite charity.
