Services will be at 11 a.m. today in Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors Ivy Chapel, 2820 Virginia Circle, with the Rev. Jay Roberson, pastor of Liberty Church, officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Mrs. Compton was born in Black Gum, Okla., and had been an Amarillo resident since 1952. She was a homemaker and a member of Grace Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bert D. Compton. Survivors include four daughters, Augusta Dameron of Oklahoma City, Katherine Chambers of Wagoner, Okla., Betty Rogers of Amarillo and Ethel Jean Pickering of Laurel, Miss.; four sons, Charles W. Compton of Tulsa, Okla., and Gene Compton, Bert Compton and Gary Compton, all of Amarillo; a brother, Vester Anderson of Joplin, Mo.; 25 grandchildren; and 38 great-grandchildren. The family will be at 1817 E. 25th Ave. Wayne Edward Fields Wayne Edward Fields, of 4515 Virginia St., Apt. 131H, died Thursday, April 10, 1997. Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. today in the Abner Fields Family Cemetery at LaGrange, N.C. Arrangements are by Rouse Funeral Home in LaGrange. Mr. Fields was born in Lenoir County, N.C. He was a retired car salesman and a veteran of World War II. Survivors include two daughters, Sharon Collier of Sumner and Linda Klahr of Eunice, N.M.; two sisters, Peggy Wade of LaGrange and Jean Jackson of Jonesboro, Ga.; and three brothers, Robert Fields, Alton Hamm and Roger Hamm, all of LaGrange. The family will receive friends at the home of Peggy Wade in LaGrange. Chris Parker Chris Parker, 23, of Amarillo, died Saturday, April 12, 1997. Memorial services will be at 3 p.m. Tuesday in Paramount Terrace Christian Church with the Rev. Jerry Davey of Pleasant Valley Christian Church and the Rev. Regi Fowler of Paramount Terrace Christian Church officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery by Memorial Park Funeral Home, 6969 E. Interstate 40. Mr. Parker was born in Amarillo and graduated from Palo Duro High School in 1992. He was a welder's assistant at Multiple Systems. He was a member of Pleasant Valley Christian Church. Survivors include a daughter, Joie Chrislynn Parker of Amarillo; his father, Bill Parker of Arlington; his mother, Jan Kitzhaber of Amarillo; his stepfather, Bill Kitzhaber of Amarillo; a sister, Julie Sandefer of Amarillo; grandparents, W.D. and Jeanne Parker, and Bobby and Betty Staton, all of Amarillo; and great-grandparents, Linnie Pearl Tubbs of Amarillo, and Oscar and Bea Staton of Hollis, Okla. Utterback James H. Utterback, 89, of Amarillo, died Saturday, April 12, 1997. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Llano Cemetery with the Rev. Howard F.M. Mr. Utterback was born in Murray, Ky., and had lived in Amarillo for most of his life. He graduated from Amarillo High School in 1926. He worked for Santa Fe Railway for 46 years as a supervisor in the accounting department. He transferred to Topeka, Kan., and lived there for 10 years before moving to Mercedes, where he retired. He moved back to Amarillo in 1993. He was a member of First Christian Church. He married Bernice Hill in 1929 at Amarillo. He was preceded in death by a daughter, DeLois Lyman, in 1978. Survivors include his wife; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. The family will be at No. 2 Greenwood Lane. They request memorials be to the Alzheimer's Association, 2200 W. Seventh Ave., Amarillo, Texas 79106. Richard S. Coon Richard S. Coon, 67, of Amarillo, died Sunday, April 13, 1997. Graveside services will be at 3 p.m. Tuesday in Llano Cemetery with the Rev. Mr. Coon was born in Dalhart to a pioneer ranching family. He had been a resident of Amarillo for 50 years. He attended Wentworth Military Academy in Missouri and graduated from Amarillo High School. He then attended Amarillo College and Texas A&M University. He was a rancher and a member of the Amarillo Country Club and First Presbyterian Church. He had served on the board of directors of Kids, Inc. He married June Meetze in 1952 at Amarillo. Survivors include his wife; a son, Richard Coon Jr. of Amarillo; a daughter, Cathy Doughtie of Amarillo; and four grandchildren. Nina Sue Pierce McHone Nina Sue Pierce McHone, 66, of Amarillo, died Friday, April 11, 1997. Memorial services will be at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday in Fellowship Baptist Church, with the Rev. Bret Capranica of the church officiating. Graveside services will be at 4 p.m. Tuesday in Panhandle Cemetery. Arrangements are by N.S. Griggs & Sons Funeral Directors, 2615 Paramount Blvd. Mrs. McHone was born in Hobbs, N.M., and had lived in the Amarillo area for more than 65 years. She married J.R. McHone in 1957 at Dalhart. Survivors include her husband; four sons, Shelby Ray McHone of Canyon, Allan McHone of Amarillo, Ronnie McHone of Sheridan, Ark., and Neal Robin McHone of Elk City, Okla.; three daughters, Ella Gibbs of Canyon, Jeanna Anette Reed of Borger and Darla Keeney of Fritch; three sisters, Sarah Blain, Tommie Townsend and Lela Dickerman, all of Pampa; 14 grandchildren; and 10 greatgrandchildren. Mrs. DeMeritt was born in Matador. She married Allen DeMeritt in 1931 at Arnett, Okla. They lived in El Paso for 25 years before moving to Texhoma in 1978. She had lived at Dunaway Manor Nursing Home in Guymon, Okla., for the past four years. She was a member of the Assembly of God Church. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1983 and a son, George, in 1993. Survivors include three granddaughters, Allene Snow of Seabrook, Christi Walker of Sulphur, Okla., and Monica Burkham of Denton; nine great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren. Area Margie Ann Proffitt MEMPHIS - Margie Ann Proffitt, 66, died Saturday, April 12, 1997. Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in the Church of Christ with Tom Anderson officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery by Spicer Funeral Home. Mrs. Proffitt was born in Ranger. She married Bill Proffitt in 1948, and they lived in the Panhandle, making their home in Memphis in 1989. She was a homemaker and a member of the Church of Christ. Survivors include her husband; a son, Larry D. Proffitt of Amarillo; two brothers, Charles Prescott and Elmer Bliss, both of Kermit; two grandchildren; and a great-grandchild. Burial will be in Childress Cemetery by Johnson Funeral Home. Mr. Morgan was born in DeKalb. He was employed with the Texas Highway Department for 35 years. He served in the National Guard and was a member of Bible Baptist Church. He married Dawn Garrett in 1952 at Childress. Survivors include his wife; five daughters, Rita Cranford of Lafayette, La., Sandra Kay Whitener, Debbie Morgan and Cindy Perkins, all of Childress, and Lesa Collins of Amarillo; two brothers, Curtis Morgan of Childress and Willis Morgan of Detroit, Texas; two half brothers, Gerald Morgan and Leonard Morgan, both of Baytown; 10 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Helen Combs MORTON - Helen Combs, 73, died Saturday, April 12, 1997. Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. today in First Baptist Church with the Rev. Danny Jackson and the Rev. Gordon Renshaw of First Missionary Baptist Church officiating. Burial will be in Morton Memorial Park Cemetery by Ellis Funeral Home. Mrs. Combs was born in Childress and had lived in Morton since 1939, moving from Childress. She married Woodie Comb in 1940 at Clovis, N.M. He died in 1973. She worked for many years as a computer operator for the Cochran County Appraisal District. She was a member of First Baptist Church. Survivors include two sons, Larry Combs of Muleshoe and Tommy Combs of Lubbock; a daughter, LaNita Gaye Jester of Lubbock; four sisters, Mary Ethel Long and Vergie Mills, both of Memphis, and Fay Hiner and Willie Ray Rozell, both of Morton; a brother, Woodrow Zuber of Morton; and seven grandchildren. Vincent J. Friemel UMBARGER - Vincent J. Friemel, 80, died Sunday, April 13, 1997. Rosary will be recited at 7:30 p.m. today in Brooks Funeral Directors Chapel at Canyon. Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday in St. Mary's Catholic Church at Umbarger with the Rev. Jim Hutzler, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery at Umbarger. Mr. Friemel was born in Umbarger and had been a lifelong resident of Umbarger. He married Della Batenhorst in 1938 at Umbarger. He was a 3rd and 4th degree member and a past grand knight of the Knights of Columbus. He also was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church of Umbarger. Survivors include his wife; and two sisters, Elsie Batenhorst of Umbarger and Marie Weaver of Chickasha, Okla. The family requests memorials be to a favorite charity. Lawrence Walton Green CLARENDON - Lawrence Walton "Larry'' Green, 47, died Sunday, April 13, 1997. Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday in First United Methodist Church with Dr. James Bell, pastor, and the Rev. Jerome Campbell, pastor of Jesus Name Apostolic Church, officiating. Burial will be in Citizens Cemetery by Robertson Funeral Directors. Mr. Green was born in Memphis and had been a resident of the Ashtola community near Clarendon most of his life. He graduated from Clarendon High School and attended North Texas State University at Denton. He married Rhonda Jean Chamberlain. He was self-employed in farming and trucking for most of his life and had been employed at Boys Ranch for a year. He was a Methodist. Survivors include a daughter, Lori Green of Amarillo; a son, Jason Green of Vernon; his parents, Horace and Naomi Green of Ashtola; three sisters, Patricia Friesen of Frisco, Beth Stepp of Ashtola and Ellen Morehart of Fargo, Okla.; two brothers, Jerry Green of Clarendon and Robin Green of Lubbock; and three grandchildren. Jesus Martinez Romo WELLINGTON - Jesus Martinez Romo, 82, died Saturday, April 12, 1997, in Hereford. Rosary was recited at 7 p.m. Sunday in Adams Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 2 p.m. today in Our Mother of Mercy Catholic Church by the Rev. Ramiro Trejo. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery. Mr. Romo was born in Mexico. He married Mary Rose in 1941 at Kyle. They moved to Wellington in 1949 from Kyle. He farmed for Raymond Ward for 22 years. He had worked for the Farmers Coop Gin for 30 years. He was a member of Our Mother of Mercy Catholic Church. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Elsa Nickell, in 1969. Survivors include his wife; three sons, Jesse Romo of Amarillo, Daniel Romo of Wellington and Raymond Romo of Hereford; four daughters, Susie Wheat of Dallas, Elena Cardenas and Alice Cocanaugher, both of Hereford, and Mary Thomas of Wellington; 11 grandchildren; and a great-granddaughter. The family requests memorials be to Crown of Texas Hospice or the Ronald McDonald House of Amarillo.
