She was a homemaker and attended First Baptist Church. She married Bill Sosebee in 1945 at Borger. Survivors include her husband; two daughters, Mae Adams and Sheila Sosebee, both of Dumas; two sisters, Elaine Bales of The Colony and Shirley White of Pasadena; six grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. Mr. Sargent was born in Lake Orion, Mich., and had lived in Borger for 13 years. He was a Baptist. Survivors include his mother, Jessie Scott of Borger; his wife, Bonita Sargent of Pontiac, Mich.; a son, Kenny Sawyers of Highland, Mich.; two daughters, Misty Pennington of Borger and Stacie Daily of Pontiac; a brother, Edward Kennedy of Georgia; a sister, Mary Jo Kennedy of Wisconsin; and six grandchildren. Jimmie Lee Blalock PAMPA - Jimmie Lee Blalock, 21, died Sunday, July 13, 1997, in Baraboo, Wis. Memorial services will be at 3 p.m. Saturday in Calvary Baptist Church with the Rev. Lyndon Glaesman, pastor, officiating. Arrangements are by the family and the church. The body was cremated. Mr. Blalock was born in Pampa and attended Pampa schools. He was a construction worker for Ken Davis Construction and a plumber's helper for Mike's Plumbing. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church. Burial will be in Dumas Cemetery with Masonic graveside rites by Dumas Masonic Lodge No. 1009. Arrangements are by Morrison Funeral Directors. Mr. Murphy was born in Marietta, Okla. He had been a Dumas resident since 1937, moving from Mountain View, Okla. He retired from the Air Force in 1976 at the rank of major. He married Nancy Lou Boone in 1947 at Seymour. Mr. Murphy was a former employee of Powell Theaters. He retired from Contel Telephone Co. in 1987. He was a lifetime member of the American Legion Post No. 224. He had been a member of Masonic Lodge No. 1009 since 1946 and received his 50-year membership certificate in 1996. He was a member of First Baptist Church. Survivors include his wife; two sisters, Merle Hayes of Duncan, Okla., and Alene Jones of Sherman; and a half brother, Martin Raines of Cleburne. The family will be at 205 Santa Barbara. Virginia Lorene Hamilton CHILDRESS - Virginia Lorene Hamilton, 76, died Monday, July 14, 1997. Ms. Hamilton was born in Kingston, Okla., and had lived in Childress for 11 years. She retired as a nurse's aide. She was preceded in death by a son, Dennis Clyde Hamilton, in 1986. Survivors include two sons, Bill Cunningham of Childress and James D. Hamilton; a stepdaughter, Rose Brown of Wichita, Kan.; two stepsons, John T. Hamilton of Dodge City, Kan., and Raymond Hamilton of Wichita; a brother, Joe Harris of Redding, Calif.; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Roy Lee Bednorz PANHANDLE - Roy Lee Bednorz, 45, died Monday, July 14, 1997, in Borger. Rosary will be recited at 7:30 p.m. today in St. Theresa's Catholic Church. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday in St. Theresa's by the Rev. Gary Sides, pastor. Burial will be in Panhandle Cemetery by Minton / Chatwell Funeral Directors. Mr. Bednorz had been a lifetime resident of Panhandle. He graduated from Panhandle High School, where he played football and basketball. He was a member of St. Theresa's Catholic Church and the Boilermakers Union. Survivors include his parents, John and Leona Bednorz of Panhandle; a son, Randy J. Bednorz of Cleburne; a stepdaughter, Amanda Davidson of Cleburne; two brothers, Mike Bednorz of Dumas and Charles Bednorz of Panhandle; two sisters, Rebecca Horner and LeAnn Lanier, both of Panhandle; and a stepgrandchild. The family requests memorials be to the Diabetes foundation or a favorite charity. Clayton Ward Bond FLOMOT - Clayton Ward Bond, 87, died Sunday, July 13, 1997, in Amarillo. Services will be at 2 p.m. today in Flomot Baptist Church with the Rev. Nathan Mulder, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Flomot Cemetery by Myers-Long Funeral Directors. Mr. Bond was born in Freestone County and moved to West Texas when he was a teen-ager. He settled in South Plains in 1928 as a depot agent for the Fort Worth and Denver Railroad. He retired from the railroad in 1973 after 45 years of service. He married Laura Louise Haverty in 1932 at Amarillo. She died in 1973. He also was preceded in death by two daughters, Sharon Ann Bond in 1943 and Jane Adell Bond in 1958. Mr. Bond married Laura Bernice Tanner Gates in 1961 at Flomot. They moved to Flomot from South Plains in 1961. He farmed in the South Plains townsite and broke and trained horses for numerous stockmen all over West Texas. He also rebuilt pianos and provided them to families. He was a member of First Baptist Church in South Plains for 33 years and of Flomot Baptist Church for 36 years. Survivors include his wife; a son, Victor Bond of Tulsa, Okla.; a stepson, Weldon Gates of Temecula, Calif.; four half sisters, June Reglen of Houston, Charlesie Tittsworth of Wichita Falls, Elinor Dorning of Dallas and Jeannine Huckabee of Rowlett; two grandsons; three stepgranddaughters; three great-grandsons; and five step-great-grandchildren. New Mexico J.M. Foster CARLSBAD, N.M. - J.M. Monroe Foster, 88, died Monday, July 14, 1997. Graveside services will be at 11:30 a.m. today in Portales Cemetery with Frank Poynor officiating. Arrangements are by Wheeler Mortuary of Portales Inc. Mr. Foster was born in Mount Pleasant, Tenn. He moved with his family to San Angelo, Texas, in 1919. He married Gladys Farrar in 1926. They moved to Portales in 1946. They purchased the Shock Insurance Agency, later named the Foster Agency, which they operated for 35 years. His wife died in 1991. In 1992, Mr. Foster married Flo Parr. They lived in Andrews, Texas, and later moved to Carlsbad. For many years, he was an elder in the old Fourth Street Church of Christ. At the time of his death, he was a member of Southside Church of Christ at Portales. Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Joan Clayton of Portales; a son, Jim Foster of Kerrville, Texas; five grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. Lorene Shaw PORTALES, N.M. - Lorene Shaw, 72, died Sunday, July 13, 1997. Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday in Wheeler Mortuary Chapel with the Rev. Steve Smith officiating. Following the services, Mrs. Shaw will be taken to First Baptist Church at Roy, where the body will be available for viewing from 2 to 3:45 p.m. Burial will be at 4:30 p.m. in Solano Cemetery. Mrs. Shaw was raised in the Solano community. She graduated from Roy High School in 1943. She attended University Baptist Church at Portales. She married James Shaw in 1943 at Roy. He died in 1989. Survivors include two sons, Kenneth Shaw of Roy and Gary Shaw of Edgewood, N.M.; a daughter, Regina Lee of Portales; a brother, Charles Ruth of Fruitland, Idaho; eight grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. Chris Ray Burkart Jr. CLOVIS, N.M. - Chris Ray Burkart Jr., 5 weeks old, died Sunday, July 13, 1997, in Lubbock, Texas. Graveside services will be at 3 p.m. today in Elida Cemetery with the Rev. Claude Clarence Brown CLOVIS, N.M. - Claude Clarence Brown died Saturday, July 12, 1997, in Tucumcari. Services will be at 1 p.m. today in Steed-Todd Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Herbert Bergstrom officiating. Burial will be in Mission Garden of Memories. Mr. Brown was born in Gorman, Texas. He moved to West Texas in a covered wagon at the age of 6. He had farmed and ranched in Antelope Flat, Texas; Tulia, Texas; and Alton, Mo. He moved to Clovis 30 years ago and was a crop duster flagman. He became an ordained deacon at the age of 23 and was an honorary deacon at Central Baptist Church. He married Ethel Mae Akin in 1925. They were married for 63 years before she preceded him in death. He also was preceded in death by a daughter, Betty Edens; and a son, Edward Brown. Survivors include a daughter, Jacque O'Brien; a sister, Dolly Wilson of Wellington, Texas; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. The family suggests memorials be to the Baptist Children's Home at Portales. Homer Albert Pettigrew GRADY, N.M. - Homer Albert Pettigrew, 81, died Saturday, July 12, 1997. Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday in The Chapel at Clovis with Dr. Herbert Bergstrom officiating. Burial will be in Grady Cemetery by Muffley Funeral Home of Clovis. Mr. Pettigrew was born in Grady and had been a lifetime resident of the Clovis and Grady area. He was a professional rodeo cowboy and horse trainer. He was a six-time world champion bulldogger in 1940, 1942, 1943, 1944, 1945 and 1947; a world champion calf roper in 1946; and allaround world champion in 1941. Mr. Pettigrew was a member of the Professional Rodeo Cowboy Association. He was inducted into the National Cowboy Hall of Fame in Oklahoma City and Colorado Springs, Colo. Survivors include two sons, Ross Pettigrew and Cotton Pettigrew, both of Phoenix; a brother, Kit Pettigrew of Clovis; two sisters, Nancy Grantham and Phyllis Sparks, both of Big Spring; and five grandchildren. Amarillo Richard Terry Richard Terry, 78, of Amarillo, died Friday, July 11, 1997. Services were at 10 a.m. Monday in Memorial Park Funeral Home Chapel of Memories, 6969 E. He moved to Amarillo 25 years ago from Odessa. He was a boilermaker for Phillips Petroleum. He was an Army veteran of World War II and a member of Pleasant Valley Baptist Church. Survivors include three sons, Gene Terry of Tulsa, Okla., James Terry of Sapulpa, Okla., and Eddie Terry of Amarillo; a daughter, La Ree Terry of Tennessee; three brothers, Roy Terry and Rex Terry, both of Amarillo, and Melvin Terry of Odessa; a sister, Hazel Wolford of Borger; five grandchildren; and two greatgrandchildren. He attended schools in Amarillo and graduating from Tascosa High School in 1990. He worked as a plumber's assistant. Burial will be in Llano Cemetery by Blackburn-Shaw Funeral Directors, Memorial Chapel, Fifth Avenue and Pierce Street. Mrs. Lee was born in Chicago. She moved to Amarillo in 1938 from Dalhart, where she was a homemaker. She was an LVN in the Amarillo area from 1960 to 1974. She married J.F. Lee in 1925 at Memphis. He died in 1952. Mrs. Lee was baptized in Clarendon in 1925. She was a member of Second Baptist Church of Amarillo. Survivors include a son, Jack Lee of Montgomery; a daughter, Nathalene Browne of Morton; two brothers, Cecil Ray Hamady of Atkins and Archie Hamady of Southgate, Calif.; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild. Mrs. Stoddard was born in Dickens County and moved to Amarillo in 1941. She married Raymond Stoddard in 1955 at Amarillo. She was a homemaker and a member of West Amarillo Church of Christ. Terry Tamplen of Kingswood United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery. Mr. Jarboe was born in Hardin County, Ky., and graduated from Hardinsburg High School. He graduated from OCS at Abilene in 1941. He worked in the hospital administration field. He joined the Army in 1932. He attained the rank of colonel in 1962 and retired from the Army in 1965. Mr. Jarboe ranched from 1965 to 1972 at Nara Visa, N.M. He moved to Amarillo in 1972. He was a Mason and a Methodist. He married Dorothy Hackerott in 1936 at El Paso. She died in 1969. He married Evelyn Higgins in 1972 at Washington, D.C. She died in 1995. Survivors include a daughter, De Ann McCarty of Nara Visa; two sons, George Jarboe of Windsor, Colo., and Richard Jarboe of Arvada, Colo.; a brother, retired Col. Wallace Jarboe of Williamsburg, Va.; six grandchildren; and three greatgrandchildren. The family will be at 3001 Mockingbird Lane. She retired in 1962 as a medical librarian for Penrose Main Hospital. She also had lived in Corpus Christi, Texas, and Las Vegas, N.M. She is survived by a brother, William S. She had served as president of Beta Sigma Phi in Eastland, Abilene and Hereford. She was a member of First United Methodist Church of Hereford. Mrs. Story was preceded in death by two husbands, J.T. Cooper in 1959 and Joe G. Story in 1974. Arrangements were by Clairemont Mortuary. Mrs. Holmes was born in Manhattan, Kan., and raised in Dalhart, Texas. She married R.S. "Red'' Holmes in 1945 at New York City. He died in 1987. Mrs. Holmes also had lived in Shanghai, China; Amarillo; Stony Brook, N.Y.; and San Diego. Oklahoma Zachary Bell GUYMON, Okla. - Zachary Bell, 7, died Saturday, July 12, 1997. Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday in Victory Memorial United Church with the Rev. J.C. Venable and the Rev. Reed Barby officiating. Burial will be in Elmhurst Cemetery by Bunch-Roberts Funeral Home. Zachary was born in Chickasha. He moved to Guymon in 1992 from Germany. He was a first grade student at Academy Grade School and participated in Kids, Inc. t-ball and soccer. He attended Sunday school at Victory Center. Survivors include his mother and father, Alita and Gary Cooper; his dad, Daniel P. Bell of Tyler, Texas; three brothers, Douglas Bell, Levi Cooper and Bailey Cooper; grandparents, Bernie and Ann Bell of Tyler, and Gary and Shirley Allen of Oklahoma City; stepgrandparents, Terry and Madeline Cooper of Guymon; great-grandparents, Rev. Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Keyes United Methodist Church with Fred Edminson officiating. Arrangements are by Cimarron Mortuary of Boise City. Mr. Rhoton was born in Keyes and graduated from Keyes High School in 1940. He attended Panhandle State University in Goodwell for two years. He then worked for First State Bank of Keyes. He was the postmaster at Keyes for 23 years. He also had farmed in the Keyes area for most of his life. Mr. Rhoton was a member of Keyes United Methodist Church and a member and past president of the Keyes Lions Club. He served in the Army during World War II and was honorably discharged in 1946. He married June Christerson in 1942. Survivors include his wife; two sons, Kendall Rhoton of Enid and H.F. Rhoton of Elkhart, Kan.; a daughter, Peggy Begley of Boise City; and a grandchild.
