Arrangements are by Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors of Pampa. Mr. Martinez was born in Pleasanton and had lived in Amarillo for 17 years. He was an Army veteran. He served during the Vietnam War and was awarded the Bronze Star, the Army Commendation Medal and the Purple Heart. He was a member of the 8th Battalion, 6th Artillery, First Infantry Division, when he was wounded. Mr. Martinez was a Catholic. Survivors include his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Pedro and Jovita Martinez Sr. of Pampa; a daughter, Sara Martinez of Austin; two brothers, Pedro Martinez Jr. of Lubbock and Stanley Martinez of Pampa; and five sisters, Mary Sepulveda of Stinnett, Petra of Fort Worth, Pepper of Brownwood, Katie Martinez of Las Vegas and Jovita Rivera of Pampa. The family will be at 629 Browning St. in Pampa. Jesse Sandoval Jr. Jesse Sandoval Jr., 25, of Amarillo, died Saturday, July 12, 1997. He attended school in Amarillo and graduated from Tascosa High School in 1990. He worked as a plumber's assistant. Mr. Summers was an Army veteran of the Korean War. He worked for 31 years for Alumax Aluminum Corp. before retiring. He was a Baptist. Avis Rutherford Avis Rutherford, 88, of Amarillo, formerly of Levelland, died Sunday, July 13, 1997. Services will be at 10 a.m. today at George C. Price Funeral Directors in Levelland with the Rev. Donald Moreland of Levelland officiating. Burial will be in the city of Levelland Cemetery. Mrs. Rutherford moved to Levelland in 1945 from Muleshoe. She moved to Amarillo in 1992 from Levelland. She graduated from Plainview High School and Wayland Baptist College. She attended West Texas State Teachers College at Canyon in 1929. She married Hubert S. Rutherford in 1929. He died in 1990. She also was preceded in death by a daughter, Shannon Hancock, in 1988. Mrs. Rutherford was a member of First Baptist Church and Matrons Study Club. She also was a member of the 1926 Study Club. She married Manuel Duran in 1935 at Clovis. They moved to Clovis in 1945 from Gonzales Ranch. Mr. Duran died in 1990. She also was preceded in death by a daughter, Dolores Pena, in 1995. Mrs. Duran was a homemaker and a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Community. Burial will be in Wheeler Cemetery by Wright Funeral Home. Mrs. Hall was born in Shamrock and had lived in Wheeler County all of her life. She graduated from Shamrock High School and attended Stephen F. Austin and Sul Ross University. She was named Wheeler's Woman of the Year in 1974. She was a member and past president of the Wednesday Study Club, Thursday Review Club, Wheeler Bicentennial Committee, Wheeler City Council and Wheeler PTA. Mrs. Hall was the first woman president of the Wheeler Chamber of Commerce and also served on the Wheeler Library Board and the American Cancer Society. She was an active member of the Wheeler Tax Appraisal Board, Wheeler Historical Society, Shamrock Ex-Student Association, Shamrock Tuesday Bridge Club, Wheeler Couples Bridge Club, Wheeler Ladies Bridge Club and the American Legion Auxiliary. She also was a volunteer for Meals on Wheels. She was a Methodist church member, where she served as a Sunday school teacher, administrative board member, worship committee chairman, Chancel Choir director, choir member and treasurer of the United Methodist Women. She married Harrison Hall in 1941 at Toyah. Survivors include her husband; two daughters, Dorothy Miller of Pampa and Linda Smith of Amarillo; a sister, Mickey Macina of Pakan; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. Mrs. Cain was born in Amarillo and was the daughter of early Armstrong County settlers. Her father was a rancher who raised Percheron horses and Hereford cattle in Armstrong County. Mrs. Cain graduated from Amarillo High School and attended West Texas State Teachers College in Canyon. She married Earl Stina Cain in 1937 at Amarillo. They lived in Amarillo, Wheeler and Monahans before moving to Clarendon in 1955. Mrs. Cain was a member of First Christian Church in Amarillo and attended First United Methodist Church in Clarendon. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Carol Mills, in 1988. Survivors include her husband; a son, Bobby Cain of Freehold, N.J.; a sister, Evelyn Redder of Duncan, Okla.; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Mrs. Moore was born in Springhill, La., and grew up in Sarepta. She lived in Magnolia, Ark., for 20 years and in Texarkana for 25 years. While in Texarkana, she worked in the retail clothing business. She had lived in Vega and Hereford for 11/2 years. She was a Baptist. Mrs. Moore married J.B. Moore in 1942. He died in 1992. Survivors include a daughter, Karen Black of Vega; three brothers, Bobby Allen and Billy Allen, both of Sarepta, and Joseph Marion Allen of North Carolina; two sisters, Shirley Ivey of Cotton Valley, La., and Cortez McKroskey of Sarepta; and three grandchildren. Herbert Talmadge Kirk SPEARMAN - Herbert Talmadge Kirk, 89, died Monday, July 14, 1997. Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday in First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Jeff Lust, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Holt Cemetery by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Home. Mr. Kirk was born in the Holt community of Hutchinson County. He had lived in the Spearman area all of his life. He graduated in 1930 from Texas Tech University with a bachelor of science degree. He farmed in the Holt community and taught history at the Plemons school until 1934, when he moved to Lubbock. While in Lubbock, Mr. Kirk was the head of the vehicle maintenance department for the city of Lubbock until 1943, when he opened Kirk's Garage, an auto and truck repair business. He returned to Hutchinson County in 1957 to resume farming and ranching. He married Grace Evalyn Boyd in 1930 at Lubbock. She died in 1985. He married Altha Townsend in 1987 at Spearman. Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Nancy Ann Kirk Martin of Spearman; a son, Richard Kirk of Perryton; two brothers, Raymond Kirk of Spearman and Buster Kirk of Borger; a sister, Dorris Faver of Lubbock; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
