Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Monday in Llano Cemetery with the Rev. Polycarp Ducthuan of Our Lady of Vietnam Catholic Church officiating. Arrangements are by Blackburn-Shaw Funeral Directors, Martin Road Chapel, 1505 Martin Road. Mr. Huynh was born in Rachgia, Vietnam. He served four years in the South Vietnam Army and later moved to the United States. He settled in Hartford, Conn., where he attended Hartford Technical Community College and majored in mechanical engineering. He had lived in Amarillo for seven years. Survivors include his mother, Hoa Nguyen of South Vietnam; a brother, Tin Huu Huynh of Hartford; and a sister, Thuong Huynh of Huntington Beach, Calif. The body will not be available for viewing. Earline Beck Wynn Earline Beck Wynn, 76, of Amarillo, died Friday, Aug. 15, 1997. Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday in Polk Street United Methodist Church Chapel with Dr. Jim Garrett, senior pastor, and Dr. Jordan Grooms, retired United Methodist minister, officiating. Burial will be in Llano East Cemetery by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2820 Virginia Circle. Mrs. Wynn was born in Clarendon and had been a lifelong resident of Amarillo. She graduated from Texas Christian University with a bachelor's degree in English. She was a teacher with the Amarillo public schools, having taught at Nixson Junior High School. She also taught public school in Dalhart and Grants, N.M., and on the Apache Reservation in Arizona. After retiring, she tutored on a volunteer basis and was active in the Help One Student To Succeed program with the AISD. Mrs. Wynn was a member of the Texas Retired Teachers Association and had served as an officer and board member. She also was a member of Polk Street United Methodist Church and the Gleaners Sunday School Class. Survivors include a daughter, Bonnie Miller of Houston; a son, John Chamberlain of Amarillo; two sisters, Joleta Keeter of Amarillo and Janelle Hutchison of Kailua, Hawaii; a brother, Harry Beck of Amarillo; and three grandchildren. The family will be at 4400 West 3rd Street. Estelle Petters Estelle Petters, 81, of Amarillo died Friday, Aug. 15, 1997, in Lubbock. She was a bookkeeper for Stewart Title, Della Dunn Realtors, and Air Speed Oil. She retired in 1985. She was a member of First Baptist Church. Walter Gordon Walter Gordon, 73, of Amarillo, died Thursday, Aug. 14, 1997. Services will be 11 a.m. Monday at Blackburn -Shaw Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Marty Hamrick, associate pastor of Polk Street United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Llano Cemetery by Blackburn-Shaw Funeral Directors, Fifth Avenue and Pierce Street. Mr. Gordon was born in Lawrence, Kan., and lived in Wichita, Kan. 10 to 15 years. He moved to Amarillo in 1977 from Boise City, Okla. He served in the Marine Corps during World War II in the Pacific. Mr. Gordon was believed to be among the youngest sergeants in the Marine Corps at the time. Survivors include his wife, Mary E. Gordon of Amarillo; a daughter, Cathy Boote of Derby, Kan.; a son, Bill Luznicky of Dallas; a brother, Vernon Gordon of Wichita, Kan.; and two grandchildren. He had lived in Vernon and Chillicothe for many years. He retired from Vernon Oil Mill. He married Luddie Elizabeth Young in 1933 at Milam County. She died in 1980. Survivors include three sons, Kenneth Robertson of Dalhart, Charles Robertson of Vernon and Tony Robertson of Alvin; two daughters, Elizabeth Williams and Loretta Upton, both of Vernon; 15 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren. The family will be at 3026 Bismark in Vernon. Orvil Friday LITTLEFIELD - Orvil "Slim'' Friday, 61, of Liverpool, N.Y., a former resident of Littlefield, died Wednesday, Aug. 13, 1997. Services were at 2 p.m. Saturday in Hammons Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Herb Tavenner, retired Methodist minister, officiating. Burial was in Littlefield Memorial Park. Mr. Friday was born in Littlefield. He attended Littlefield schools and Del Mar College in Corpus Christi. He married Candace Geniac in 1982 at Corpus Christi. Mr. Friday farmed in the Hart area and moved to Lubbock, where he was employed by Bush-Hogg Continental. He later was relocated to Corpus Christi. He was Lutheran. Survivors include his wife; three daughters, Cheryl Friday of Amarillo, and LeAnn Ridens and Darsa Wright, both of Stephenville; a stepson, Lannie Neil Lavender of Lubbock; a stepdaughter, Christi Jan Wooten of Lubbock; a sister, Bobbie Jean Waggoner of Fort Worth; a brother, Darrell Friday of Amherst; and four grandchildren. Services will be at 2 p.m. today at First Baptist Church in Hooker, Okla., with the Rev. Tom R. Lee officiating. Burial will be in the Hooker Cemetery by Roberts Brothers Funeral Home of Hooker. Mr. Rapp attended school in Hooker and was a resident of the community his entire life. He married Wynona Beth Duer in 1951. He was a lifelong farmer. He was a Pioneer Seeds dealer for 34 years, a member of the Texas County Fair Board, an honorary chapter farmer of the Hooker FFA Chapter and a longtime supporter of 4-H and FFA. Mr. Rapp was a member of First Baptist Church of Hooker. Survivors include his mother, Ruby Rapp of Hooker; his wife; two sons, Doug Rapp and David Rapp, both of Hooker; a daughter, Detta Dunnagan of Pueblo, Colo.; and six grandchildren. Trevor Keith OPTIMA, Okla. - Trevor Keith, 18month-old son of Anthony and Cheri Keith, died Thursday, Aug. 14, 1997. Lester Paul Long TEXHOMA, Okla. - Lester "Tuffy'' Paul Long, 82, died Friday, Aug. 15, 1997. Services will be at 11 a.m Monday at First Christian Church with the Rev. Harold James, Rollin Boothby, and Mike Dumler officiating. Dawson-Welch Funeral Home of Texhoma will handle the cremation. Mr. Long was born in Texhoma. He was a signal repairman for Rock Island Railroad. Mr. Long was an electrician, farmer and carpenter. He and his wife Gladys operated the Golden Spread Grill for 13 years. He also owned and operated the Golden Spur Motel for the last 30 years. He and his brother, Ike, also had a horse breeding business. He was a member of First Christian Church. He was preceded in death by his wife, Gladys. Survivors include a son, Baylor Long of Texhoma, two daughters, Lana Ross of Texhoma and Paulette Boothby of Driftwood, Okla.; a brother, Ike Long of Texhoma; and six grandchildren. Mr. Seymour was born in Amarillo and moved to McLean about 1977. He retired from the city of Amarillo. He was an Army veteran of the Korean War. "Charlie'' Powell, 97, died Friday, Aug. 15, 1997. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday in First Baptist Church with the Rev. John Glover, associate pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery by Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors. Mr. Powell was born in Bellingham, Wash. He moved to Pampa in 1943 from Seminole, Okla. He married Una Parker in 1929 at Garber, Okla. She died in 1977. Mr. Powell was a plant manager for Cities Service Oil Co. He retired after 411/2 years of service. He was a member of First Baptist Church, the Everymans Bible Class and the Pampa Rotary Club. Survivors include a nephew, Bill J. Morris of Wichita, Kan; and a niece, Jo Ann Gilpin of Tulsa, Okla. Mr. Barden was born in Altus, Okla. He moved to Springlake in 1944 from Tipton, Okla. He married Virginia McCleskey in 1956 at Clovis, N.M. Mr. Barden served in the Navy during the Korean War. He was a farmer and a member of Earth Church of Christ. Survivors include three daughters, Dawn Williams of Muleshoe, Jill Barnard of Wakita, Okla., and Carrie Barden of Littlefield; two sisters, Sue Hollingsworth of Hereford and Arwilda Harrington of Greeley, Colo.; a brother, Dean Barden of Greeley; and two grandsons. Roy Wayne Belk PLAINVIEW - Roy Wayne Belk, 77, died Friday, Aug. 15, 1997. Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday in Wood-Dunning Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Don Robertson, pastor of College Heights Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Plainview Memorial Park. Mr. Belk was born in Vernon. He moved with his parents to the Runningwater community and had lived there all of his life. He married Edith Newby in 1978. She died in 1996. Mr. Belk was a carpenter and painter. He was an Army Air Corps veteran of World War II and a member of College Heights Baptist Church, Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion. Survivors include three sisters, Jewel Chowning of Wahpeton, N.D., Faye Powers of Dimmitt and Frankie Prayor of Lubbock; and a brother, Loyd Belk of Plainview. Adelbert Williams PLAINVIEW - Adelbert Williams, 93, died Wednesday, Aug. 13, 1997. Services were at 10 a.m. Saturday in Lemons Funeral Home Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Neil Unwin, pastor of First Assembly of God Church, officiating. Burial will be in Plainview Cemetery. Mr. Williams was born in Alamogordo, N.M. He moved to Plainview at the age of 3. He attended Plainview schools and graduated from Plainview High School. He attended Wayland Baptist University and graduated with an associate's degree in history. Mr. Williams was a member of First Assembly of God Church. Survivors include a cousin, Margie Austin of Arlington. Robert L. Vaught PAMPA - Robert L. Vaught, 95, a former Pampa resident, died Friday, Aug. 15, 1997. Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday in Memory Gardens Cemetery at Pampa with the Rev. Paul Nachtigall, pastor of Highland Baptist Church, officiating. Arrangements are by CarmichaelWhatley Funeral Directors. Mr. Vaught was born in Argo. He married Blanche Bruce in 1928 at Wichita Falls. She died in 1994. After retiring from Mobil Oil in 1967, he moved to Bowie. In 1976, he returned to Pampa until moving to Denver in 1994. Mr. Vaught was a member of the Highland Baptist Church and Oddfellows Lodge No. 355. Survivors include a daughter, Bobbye Grundy of Denver, Colo.; two grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Mr. Knowles was a native of Mexia and a Borger resident for 65 years. He once had served as the superintendent for the Borger Independent School District. He was a member of First United Methodist Church and a lifetime member of Borger Rotary Club. He married Janice Whisenhunt in 1981 at Borger. Mr. Knowles was preceded in death by his first wife, Zola Ruth Knowles; and son, Joe Carroll "Snuff'' Knowles Jr. in 1989. Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Elizabeth Ruth "Bitsey'' Howell of Laredo; a stepdaughter, Tama Sweatt of Borger; four grandchildren; and three greatgrandchildren. He was a resident of the Lake Meredith area for 20 years before coming to Amarillo. Mr. Littlefield was a farmer and rancher most of his life. He was a member of Fritch Assembly of God Church, Hutchison County Sheriff's Posse and the Quarter Horse and Paint associations. Survivors include a son, Terry Littlefield of Blackwell, Okla.; two daughters, Frances Jackson of Fritch and Tracy Root of Amarillo; two brothers, Lloyd Littlefield of Groom and John Littlefield of Muleshoe; seven grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. Edker Wheeler Jr. BORGER - Edker "Ed'' Wheeler Jr., 66, died Friday, Aug. 15, 1997. Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at First Baptist Church. Cremation will be by Colonial Funeral Chapel of Amarillo. Burial will be in Veteran's Memorial Cemetery at Santa Fe, N.M. Mr. Wheeler was born in Spartanburg, S.C., and graduated from Anderson County Training High School in Pendleton, S.C. He served more than 22 years in the Army, serving in the Korean War, the Vietnam War and at the Panama Canal. Mr. Wheeler received the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal with 60 Device, the Army Commendation medal with First Oak Leaf Cluster, the Republic of Vietnam Civil Actions Medal Unit Citation, the Republic of Vietnam Civil Actions Medal with Two Clasps, the Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross Unit Citation with Palm, the National Defense Service Medal, two Overseas Service Bars, the Vietnam Service Medal, the Bronze Star Medal with First Oak Leaf Cluster, the Meritorious Service Medal, the Good Conduct Medal with Sixth Award and Expert Qualification Badges for the M-14 rifle and the .45-caliber pistol. Mr. Wheeler moved to Borger in 1976 and worked for the Hutchison County Sheriff's Department for 16 years, retiring as a chief deputy. He had served as president of the Texas Chief Deputy Association from 1992 to 1993. Mr. Wheeler received the Melvin Drum Award for outstanding career accomplishments and dedication to law enforcement. He was a a member of Kiwanis and the American Red Cross. Mr. Wheeler taught law enforcement courses at Borger High School and Frank Phillips College at Borger. Survivors include a son, Lucius L. Wheeler of Los Angeles; two daughters, Chantal Wheeler of Los Angeles and Marcelia Wheeler Knox of San Francisco; a brother, Eugene M. Wheeler of Jackson, Miss.; a stepdaughter, Miriam Wright of New York City; a stepson, David Wright of Chicago; five grandchildren; and a great-grandchild. New Mexico Leslie Dale Cole CLOVIS, N.M. - Leslie Dale Cole, 62, died Friday, Aug. 15, 1997. Services will be at 3 p.m. Tuesday at Muffley Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Stan White officiating. Burial will be in Santa Fe National Cemetery at Santa Fe. Military honors will be conducted by Cannon Air Force Base Honor Guard. Mr. Cole was born in Van, Texas. He married Kay Martin in 1959 at Elk City, Okla. He moved to Clovis in 1969. Mr. Cole served in the Air Force for 13 years and in the Army for eight years, serving a year in Vietnam. He worked as a bartender for the Holiday Inn and the Colonial Park Country Club both in Clovis. He was a Baptist. Survivors include two daughters, Leslie Reid, and Rhonda Scott Baker, both of Clovis; a son, Tracy Cole of Cleburne, Texas; his mother, Elizabeth Cole of Cleburne; three brothers, Jerry Cole of Cleburne, Doug Cole of Tulsa, Okla., Eddie Cole of Topeka, Kan.; a sister, Paulette Lewis of Mineral Wells, Texas; and two grandchildren.
