McCubbin Sr. James F. McCubbin Sr., 77, of Amarillo, died Thursday, April 17, 1997. Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. today in N.S. Griggs & Sons Funeral Directors Pioneer Chapel, 2615 Paramount Blvd., with the Rev. Francis Crowe officiating. Cremation was by N.S. Griggs & Sons Funeral Directors. Mr. McCubbin was born in Dallas. He was an Army veteran, serving in World War II and the Korean War. He was honorably discharged as a captain. He moved to Amarillo in the mid-1950s and worked for Terk Distributing for more than 35 years, serving as vice president and general manager. Survivors include a daughter, Mary Ann Welnack of Napperville, Ind.; two sons, James F. McCubbin Jr. and William Lee McCubbin, both of Amarillo; a brother, retired Rear Adm. Jack McCubbin of Steilacoom, Wash.; two sisters, June Wergen of San Antonio and Margaret McCubbin of Oakland, Calif.; and four grandchildren. The family suggests memorials be to the local chapters of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. Allen R. Hardin Allen R. Hardin, 77, of Amarillo, died Thursday, April 17, 1997. Services will be at 10 a.m. today in Memorial Park Funeral Home Chapel of Memories, 6969 E. Interstate 40, with the Rev. Marvin Gregor of First United Methodist Church of Tahoka officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Mr. Hardin was born in Clarendon and had been a longtime resident of Amarillo. He was a livestock buyer and worked for Pinkney Packing Co. for 25 years. He was a Marine veteran and had served in World War II. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ava Marie Hardin, in 1996. Survivors include two daughters, Patricia Woodward of Decatur and Wanda Whitaker of Claude; two sisters, Billie Bain of Amarillo and Thelma Hill of Clarendon; three grandchildren; and a great-grandchild. Leona Shoffner Leona Shoffner, 84, of Amarillo, died Thursday, April 17, 1997. Memorial services will be in Carterville, Mo., by the family. Cremation is by Memory Gardens Crematory. Local arrangements are by Blackburn-Shaw Funeral Directors, Memorial Chapel, Fifth Avenue and Pierce Street. Ms. Shoffner was born in Letts, Iowa. She lived in Cottage Grove, Ore., and tailored women's clothing for 40 years before retiring in 1976. She was a deputy registrar and a notary public. She was a Baptist. The body will not be available for viewing. Joseph A. Warren Joseph A. "Joe'' Warren, 70, a former Amarillo resident, died Wednesday, April 16, 1997, in Ontario, Calif. Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 10, in Amarillo Primitive Baptist Church Mr. Warren was born in Dalhart. He lived in Amarillo for several years and was a cook at different restaurants before moving to California about six years ago. He served in the Navy during World War II. Survivors include four brothers, Denver Warren of Sun City, Calif., and Wayne Warren, Nathon Warren and Bob Warren, all of Amarillo; and three sisters, Mary Duncan of Lawton, Okla., Barbara Smith of Midland and Georgia Worley of Amarillo. Blythe David Hendricks Blythe David Hendricks, 26, of Amarillo, died Monday, April 14, 1997. Private services were by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2820 Virginia Circle. Mr. Hendricks was born in Dallas and had been a resident of Amarillo for 21 years. He was a tree trimmer and a Christian. Survivors include his mother and stepfather, Shirlene Morton Fluke and D.L. Morton of Amarillo. Mary Elizabeth Cotter Mary Elizabeth Cotter, 79, of Dimmitt, a former Amarillo resident, died Friday, April 18, 1997. Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday in Coulter Road Baptist Church with Robert E. Field of Southeast Baptist Church officiating. Burial will be in Llano Cemetery by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 S. Georgia St. Mrs. Cotter was born in Broken Bow, Okla., and had lived in Amarillo since 1929. She had lived in Dimmitt with her daughter for one year. She worked for the Latour Apartments before retiring. She also had worked for Cretney Drug, Skaggs, Crysler Drug Service and Ben Franklin and was a cashier for the base exchange at Amarillo Air Force Base. She also did subsidiary nursing at Northwest Texas Hospital. She was preceded in death by three husbands, Bernie Glen Hollis in 1945, Raymond L. McCabe in 1974 and Texas Austin Cotter in 1986. Survivors include a daughter, Loretta Carol Warren of Dimmitt; a son, R.L. McCabe of Amarillo; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild. Survivors include her husband, Honorio Rodriquez; three sons, Ronnie Rodriquez of Hart, Chris Rodriquez of McKinney and David Rodriquez of Amarillo; a daughter, Susan Rivera of Plainview; a brother, Marcelino Torres Jr. of Plainview; a sister, Francis Hines of Lufkin; and eight grandchildren. Ernest Ray Christofferson Ernest Ray "Chris'' Christofferson, 45, of Amarillo, died Monday, April 14, 1997. officiating. Military honors will be rendered by the Veterans of Foreign Wars post in Liberty. Arrangements are by Sterling Funeral Home in Dayton. Mr. Christofferson was born in Alvin. He attended school in Houston, Alvin, Lancaster and White Haven, Tenn. He worked for various oil companies in Texas and also was a ranch hand in Texas and Oklahoma. He served in the Navy from 1977 to 1981, when he was honorably discharged. He had been an aviation machinist's mate third class aboard the USS Enterprise and the USS Coral Sea. He was commended as one of the outstanding members of the "Black Eagles'' afloat on the West Pacific / Indian Ocean deployment and ashore at Naval Air Station Miramar. Christofferson had lived in Amarillo about 15 years. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign War Post No. 1475 in Amarillo. Survivors include his mother and stepfather, Joan A. Morse-Froust and William B. Froust of Votaw; three sisters, Linda Sue Christofferson-Huffman of Pearland, Betsy Christofferson-Casper of New Caney and Lori Brohawn of Cleveland, Texas; and a brother, John Everette Thomas of Thicket. Burial will be in Bush River Memorial Gardens. Mr. Hodges was born in Victoria. He was an Eagle Scout and a member of Pi Kappa Phi at Lander College. He was employed with Owens-Corning Fiberglas Corp. for 15 years. He recently was employed as an engineer with Shakespeare Fiberglas in Newberry. He lived in Amarillo for 15 years and was a member of St. Stephen United Methodist Church in Amarillo. Survivors include his wife, Susan Gayle Adams Hodges; a son, Trey Hodges of the home; two daughters, Sarah Hodges and Ashley Hodges, both of the home; his parents, Bill and Jimmie Lou Hall Hodges of Greenwood; and a sister, Patti Hodges McClain of Greenwood. Evans, 63, a former Plainview resident, died Thursday, April 17, 1997. Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday in Lemons Funeral Home Memorial Chapel at Plainview with David Riley of Plainview officiating. Burial will be at 2 p.m. in Memorial Park Cemetery at Amarillo. Mr. Evans was born and raised in Amarillo and graduated from Amarillo High School. He was a journeyman carpenter. He married Gerry Patterson in 1952 at Amarillo. He moved to Plainview in 1959 and was the owner and operator of Ranchers and Farmers Supply. In 1975, he began working with Nichols Tillage Tools. He was a charter member of the Golden Spread Appaloosa Horse Club and the Plainview Gun and Bass Club. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church of Plainview. He moved to Lubbock in 1991. Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Cindy Burnett of Canyon and Tracy Lynn Strates of Corpus Christi; two sons, Jesse Evans of Shallowater and Ben Evans of Lubbock; five sisters, Clarice Hickox and Sue Murphy, both of Amarillo, Jean Lion of California, Bonnie Lucile Spencer of Spokane, Wash., and Lynda Banks of Mansfield; and six grandchildren. New Mexico Grady Banister CLOVIS, N.M. - Grady Banister, 58, died Thursday, April 17, 1997. Services will be at 3 p.m. Monday in Steed-Todd Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Floyd Cemetery. Mr. Banister was born in Clovis and had been a lifetime resident of the area. He was employed by AT&SF Railroad for 18 years. He then began building bits and spurs and shoeing horses. Mr. Stevens was born in Canyon and had been a lifetime resident of Dimmitt. He married Kaye Williams in 1964 at Dimmitt. He was a Methodist and attended Barn Church at B-S Arena in Hereford. He was a professional race horse trainer and rodeo cowboy. Survivors include his wife; three sons, Barton Joe Stevens of Borger, Shane "Button'' Stevens of El Paso and Scott Stevens of Dimmitt; a daughter, Sherry Oliver of Amarillo; his mother, Wannie Stevens of Dimmitt; a sister, Barbara Wheat of Albuquerque, N.M.; and four grandchildren. Dorothy Henry PLAINVIEW - Dorothy Henry, 77, died Thursday, April 17, 1997. Mrs. Henry was born in Tecumseh, Okla. She grew up in Quitaque and graduated from Quitaque High School. She married Myrett Henry in 1937 at Plainview. They moved to Wellington and then to Jackson, Miss., in 1951. They moved to Plainview in 1954. Her husband died in 1995. She helped start the Henry Tire Co. with her husband. She was a member of First United Methodist Church, the Harmony Sunday School Class, United Methodist Women, the Altrusa Garden Club, Good Sams Travel Club, the Senior Citizens and Meals on Wheels. She also was a Girl Scout leader and a Band Parent. Survivors include four daughters, Peggy Hellerstein of Houston, Joann Gaston of Sudan, and Betty Gouldy and Barbara Lambert, both of Plainview; five brothers, Charles Keisling of Plainview, Harold Keisling of Dumas, Delmer Keisling of Sunray, James Keisling of Hobbs, N.M., and Walter Keisling of Dumas; a sister, Margaret Mayhall of Moore, Okla.; 10 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. Mrs. Williams was born in Rosebud. She lived in Littlefield before moving to Olton in 1972. She married John Thomas Williams in 1932 at Rosebud. He died in 1978. She worked in the cafeteria at the Spade School in Spade for eight years. Survivors include four sons, Raymond Williams of Longview, James L. Williams of Midland, Kenneth Williams of Olton and Bobby Williams of Lubbock; a brother, Chester Bean of Bay City; 13 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.
