She married Willie Alford Singleton in 1963; he died in 1987. She had worked as a cook for several places and had owned rental property in recent years. She was a member of Patterson Chapel. Burial will be in Lawn Haven Memorial Gardens. Mr. Talley was born in Nocona, Texas, and had lived in Clovis for 46 years. He had worked for K Barnett Construction Co. as a truck driver for 26 years. He married June Valentine in 1979 at Salt Lake City, Utah. He was a member of Redemmer Lutheran Church of Friona. He had lived in Spring for two years, moving from Bovina. He is a retired farmer and a member of the VFW Lodge. He had served in the Army during World War II. Mrs. Moore was born in Carey, Childress County. She had been a resident of Wichita Falls since 1937. She married J.C. Moore in 1934 at Oklahoma. He died in 1969. She retired as a salesperson for a woman's clothing store. She had been a member of First Baptist Church of Wichita Falls since 1937 and was active in her Sunday school class. She was a past member of the Women's Forum of Wichita Falls, the Band Mothers Club and the AARP. Hazel Rouse PERRYTON - Hazel Rouse, 80, a former Perryton resident, died Tuesday, Jan. 14, 1997, at Mesa, Ariz. Arrangements are by Brooks Funeral Directors of Canyon. Mrs. Rouse was born in Beaver County, Okla. She was raised in Perryton and graduated from Perryton High School in 1934. She graduated from Draughon's Business College at Lubbock in 1935. She married J.D. Rouse in 1939. They moved to Amarillo in the mid-1950s. She was employed by St. Anthony's Hospital. They moved to Mesa in 1960, and she worked at and retired from Arizona State University at Phoenix. She was a member of East Mesa Baptist Church in Mesa. She was preceded in death by her husband and an infant son, Bobby Ray. Survivors include a daughter, Faye Jean Morrison of Mesa; two sons, Donald Rouse and Mike Rouse, both of Mesa; three brothers, Alvis Morris of San Antonio, and George Morris and Clarence Morris, both of Perryton; a sister, Alberta Kite of Perryton; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Velma Batteas PAMPA - Velma Batteas, 88, died Friday, Jan. 17, 1997. Graveside services were at 4 p.m. Saturday in Fairview Cemetery with the Rev. Mrs. Batteas was born in Montague County and had been a resident of Pampa for 50 years. She was a member of Central Baptist Church and WMU. She married Sam Batteas in 1927 at Wheeler. He died in 1971. Survivors include four nephews including Max Willingham of Pampa; and a niece. Theo A. Mastin Sr. PAMPA - Theo A. "Ted" Mastin Sr., 92, died Friday, Jan. 17, 1997. Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday in First United Methodist Church with Dr. R.L. Kirk, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery with graveside rites by Pampa Masonic Lodge No. 966 AF&AM. Arrangements are by Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors. Mr. Mastin was born in Clinton, Okla. He attended Texas A&M University for 31/2 years. He married Babe Myers in 1939 at Morganfield, Ky. He moved to Pampa in 1942. He was an electrical engineer for Phillips Petroleum for 40 years before retiring. He was a 50-year member of the Odd Fellows and a 70-year member of Pampa Masonic Lodge No. 966 AF&AM. He also was a Shriner and a member of the Khiva Temple. He was a member of Chapter No. 65 of the Order of the Eastern Star, First United Methodist Church and WinSome Sunday School class. He was a member of the Evening Lions Club and served as secretary for 11 years. He was a Scoutmaster of the Boy Scouts in Bowers City. Survivors include his wife; a son, Theo A. Mastin Jr. of Colleyville; a brother, William H. Mastin of Peru, Kan.; five grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Everette Crisp PLAINVIEW - Everette Crisp, 74, of Amarillo, a former Plainview resident, died Thursday, Jan. 16, 1997. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Monday in Parklawn Memorial Gardens with Roy Dean Verner of Tyler officiating. Arrangements are by Lemons Funeral Home. Mr. Crisp was born in Thalia. He grew up in Foard County and attended school at Rayland. He farmed in Foard County and served in the Army from 1944 to 1946 during World War II. He served as a combat infantryman in Japan and received the Bronze Star. After being discharged, he moved to Plainview and worked for the fire department for two years. He then worked for the police department for two years. He moved to Hereford in 1952 and worked for their police department for one year. In 1954 he started Crisp Dozier Co. and operated it until 1974, when he began working for the city of Hereford. He retired in 1986 and moved to Amarillo in 1996. He married Wanda Ruth Klausing in 1979 at Hereford. Survivors include his wife; a stepson, Jim Winfrey of Kingsville, Mo.; two brothers, Wayne Crisp of Lubbock and Travis Crisp of Plainview; three sisters, Tommie Lee Scott of Dumas, Naomi Thornton of Amarillo and Wanda Berner of Tyler. Donald C. VanPelt WELLINGTON - Donald C. VanPelt, 66, died Thursday, Jan. 16, 1997. Services will be at 2 p.m. today in First Baptist Church with Tom Wilkins officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery by Adams Funeral Home. Mr. VanPelt was born in Collingsworth County and graduated from Wellington High School in 1948. He attended Amarillo College, Highlands University, and received his bachelor's degree in English in 1960 from North Texas University and his master's in education in 1961. He had taught at Samnorwood, Quail, Hedley and McLean. He had served as the Collingsworth County Co-op Counselor, and retired from education in 1981. He had served in the Army and farmed and ranched at Kelley, Bean Hill and Plymout communities. Survivors include his wife, Deanna VanPelt of San Antonio; two sons, Neal VanPelt of Dallas and Brian VanPelt of Denton; a daughter, Valerie Paulukaitis of Phoenix; a sister, Alloise Alexander of Plainview; two brothers, James VanPelt of Amarillo and Newell VanPelt of Vernon; and two grandchildren. He had been a salesman with American National Life Insurance Co. He was a veteran of the Army. He had lived in Borger for three years, moving from Newport, Ore. Tom Beeson PLAINVIEW - Tom Beeson, 89, died Friday, Jan. 17, 1997. Graveside services will be at 3 p.m. today in Dreamland Cemetery at Turkey. Arrangements are by Lemons Funeral Home. Mr. Beeson grew up in Hall County and attended school at Turkey. He was involved in road construction for many years. In 1947, he moved to Lamb County and farmed until his retirement in 1977. He moved to Plainview in 1996. He was a member of Northside Church of Christ at Olton. Survivors include five sisters, Vina Stewart, Lucille Moses and Wilma Covington, all of Olton, and Virginia Robison and Betty Wynn, both of Amarillo. R.L. Cass PLAINVIEW - R.L. "Red" Cass, 87, died Thursday, Jan. 16, 1997. Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday in St. Mark's Episcopal Church with the Rev. Charles Chapman, rector, and the Rev. James A. Mock, former rector, officiating. Burial will be in Parklawn Memorial Gardens by Lemons Funeral Home. Mr. Cass was born in Quanah, grew up in Bowie and graduated from Bowie High School. He moved to Amarillo and started his career in the grocery business as manager of an M System store, and was later with National Biscuit Co., which is now Nabisco, as a sales representative. He moved to Plainview and started Hometown Market in the early 1960s. He was a member of St. Mark's Episcopal Church and the 1928 Prayer Book Branch. He had served on the vestry for many years as junior and senior warden and head usher. He was a delegate to the Diocesan Conference that established the Diocese of northwest Texas. He established the Alter Garden at St. Mark's, where he was caretaker. He married Frances Ross in 1931 at Amarillo. Survivors include his wife; a son, Ross Cass of Dallas; two grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. Eva Clark PERRYTON - Eva Clark, 92, died Sunday, Jan. 12, 1997. Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Boxwell Brothers Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Bobby Roger officiating. Burial will be in Ochiltree Cemetery. Mrs. Clark was born in Wheeler. She married George L. Clark in Elk City, Okla.; he died in 1963. She was a cook for Senior Village and a member of First Baptist Church. She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Nita Verl Lesalle, in 1986. Survivors include two daughters, Donna A. Smith and Molly K. Johnson, both of Perryton; a son, George L. She had worked at various businesses in Clarendon. She was a homemaker and a member of First Baptist Church, where she was active for many years in various activities. Survivors include her husband; two daughters, Mary Louise Price of Clarendon and Sue Hardy of Floydada; a son, Lloyd Lynn McCord of Anson; her mother, Cora Belle Hearn of Clarendon; a sister, Cora Caroll of White Deer; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. H. Paul Holdridge PLAINVIEW - H. Paul Holdridge, 88, died Saturday, Jan. 18, 1997. Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Trinity Fellowship with the Rev. Mr. Holdridge was born and raised in Comanche County and graduated from DeLeon High School. He attended Tarleton State College, taught school for two years then moved to Dallas, where he attended Southern Methodist University. He was ordained minister at the Assembly of God Church in 1937. He moved to McCamey in 1937 and served as pastor of First Assembly of God Church; to Plainview in 1939; to El Paso in 1944; to Hope, Ark. in 1945 as pastor of Hope Gospel Tabernacle; to Albuquerque in 1951; and to Bartlesville, Okla., in 1956. In 1970, he moved to Waxahachie and served as vice president of Southwestern Assembly of God University. He retired in 1977, and moved to Plainview, where he worked with his family at Warrick Furniture. He taught Thursday morning Ladies Bible Study for 17 years. He had served as district superintendent of the West Texas Assembly of God from 1942 until 1944 and as district superintendent of New Mexico Assembly of God in 1955. He married Ersel Naomi Coley in 1929 at DeLeon. He attended Trinity Fellowship Church. Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Carolyn Warrick of Plainview and Elaine RowtonHigh School and from Texas A&M University with a bachelor's degree in aerospace engineering. He married Fauniel "Scottie" Scott in 1958 at Titusville, Fla. He was a veteran of the Navy, serving in World War II and in Korea. He retired in 1987 from McDonnell Douglas Corporation after 34 years. He moved to Pampa in 1987, and was a member of the Unitarian Church. He was preceded in death by a son, Mark Arlington Brown, in 1984. Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Toni Brown of Pampa; two sisters, Aurthurine Davis of Oklahoma City and Wanna Mae Wallace of Kilgore; and three grandsons. She was a machine operator in the interior shutter department of Maywood Inc. She worked there for 23 years before retiring. She married John McElreath in 1940 at Amarillo. He died in 1970. She was a member of Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church, where she sang in choir, was a Sunday School Teacher of the Adult Women and a deaconess. She was also a member of the Ministers Wives Council, Superior Chapter No. 214. and Order of Eastern Star. She was preceded in death by her husband, Roy Bradley, in 1993. Survivors include a son, James Tavie of Los Angeles; a daughter, Kathy Swain of Amarillo; a brother, Earl Henson of Dallas; a sister, Helen Jiles of Amarillo; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. The family will be at 1616 N.W. 20th Ave. Clifton Jerome Hughes-Monroe Clifton Jerome Hughes-Monroe, 15day-old son of Ericka Hughes and Clifton Monroe, died Friday, Jan. 17, 1997. Oklahoma Clint Abbott GOODWELL, Okla. - Clint Abbott, 89, died Thursday, Jan. 16, 1997. Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday in First Baptist Church with the Rev. Mark Patterson, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Goodwell Cemetery by Henson-Novak Funeral Directors of Guymon. Mr. Abbott was born near Duncan, Stevens County, Indian Territory, and was raised near Checotah, in rural McIntosh County. He attended rural schools and graduated from Victor High School. He received a bachelor's degree in trade and industrial education from Southeastern State University at Durant and a master's from Oklahoma State University at Stillwater. He taught at McIntosh County from 1929 until 1941. He then worked for Douglas Aircraft at Tulsa during World War II. He was a Navy veteran, having served in the Philippine Islands. He had worked for Standlin Oil and Gas Co. at Tulsa for a few years after the war. He had taught at Woodward High School from 1956 until 1959, when he went to work for Oklahoma Panhandle State University at Goodwell, retiring as assistant professor of industrial arts in 1972. He was named to the Oklahoma Council of Technology Teacher Education Hall of Fame. He was an active member of First Baptist Church, where he was ordained deacon in 1957. He also was a member of Goodwell Lodge No. 521, AF&AM, Order of Eastern Star, Grand Lodge of Oklahoma, Guthrie Conservatory, and received a 60-year pin in 1993. He was active in the Oklahoma Education Association, Oklahoma Industrial Arts Association, Texas-Cimarron Counties Retired Teachers Association and Goodwell Lions Club. He married Maurice Imogene Taylor in 1948; she died in 1983. Survivors include two daughters, Louise Wyrick of Kismet, Kan., and Leta Kay Garrison of Jay; two sons, Wayne Abbott of Oklahoma City and Guy Abbott of Sublette, Kan.; four brothers, Whitt K. Abbott of Muskogee, Clifton Abbott of Checotah, J.W. Abbott of Middletown, Ky., and Roy Abbott of Louisville, Ky.; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Mrs. Hinton was born in Siloam Springs, Ark. She attended and graduated from high school in Siloam Springs in 1945. She married W.S. Hinton in 1946 at Siloam Springs and moved to Boise City. She had worked as a secretary and bookkeeper for Southwest Public Service Co. for 38 years. She was a member of the First Baptist Church and Home Culture Club, where she had been secretary for many years. She was a past member of Circle E Home Extension Club and Union Chapel Community. Daisy Marie Chapman Perky KEYES, Okla. - Daisy Marie Chapman Perky, 88, died Saturday, Jan. 18, 1997. Mrs. Perky was born in Albany, Mo. She attended the Victory Center Country Schools near Eva and attended two years of high school at Goodwell. She married Ben Chapman in 1927 at Stratford; he died in 1958. They farmed in the Eva community. She married Ray Perky in 1964; he died in 1988. She had lived in Keyes since 1984. She was a member of First Baptist Church, Keyes Senior Citizens and the Baptist WMU. She was also preceded in death by a son, Gerald Chapman. Survivors include three sons, Johnnie T. Chapman of Keyes, Bennie Chapman of Anaheim, Calif., and Jerry Chapman of Woodward, Okla.; two daughters, Frances Reid of Ulysses, Kan., and Sherley Cook of Keyes; a brother, Earl Gumm of Seattle, Wash.; 18 grandchildren; 11 stepgrandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and 16 stepgreat-grandchildren. Kevin Deckard, associate pastor of First United Methodist Church, officiating, with Masonic graveside rites by Canyon City Masonic Lodge No. 730 at Canyon. Arrangements are by Blackburn-Shaw Funeral Directors, Memorial Chapel, Fifth Avenue and Pierce Street, in Amarillo. Mr. Miller had been a longtime resident of Canyon. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge and First United Methodist Church. He was an Army veteran and had served during World War II. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lillian Miller, in 1989. Survivors include a daughter, Johnnie Bell of California; a stepdaughter, Tanya Rogers of Amarillo; a stepson, Alan Hanks of West Lafayette, Ind.; five grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
