Burial will be in Llano Cemetery by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2820 Virginia Circle. Mrs. Stebbins was born in Salina, Kan., and had lived in Amarillo since 1982. She was a homemaker and a member of LIFT Sunday School class and Wednesday Morning Women's Bible Study Group at St. Stephen United Methodist Church. She married Jeff Stebbins in 1982 at Boulder, Colo. Survivors include her husband; a daughter, Amanda Stebbins of the home; a son, Michael Stebbins of the home; her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Leland Smith of Lafayette, Colo.; a sister, Charlene Schneiderwent of Brighton, Colo.; and a grandmother, Grace Rice of Delphos, Kan. Walter Dewayne Reining Walter Dewayne Reining, 46, of Amarillo, died Wednesday, July 16, 1997. Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Monday in Llano Cemetery with the Rev. Mr. Reining was born in Amarillo and had lived here most of his life. He worked as a bellman for Bally's and the MGM Grand Hotel in Las Vegas. He also did construction work for the highway department. He was of the Catholic faith. Survivors include a daughter, Nikki Percifull of Amarillo; his mother and stepfather, Wilma and Ellis "Dick'' Perdue of Amarillo; stepmother, Carol Lee Reining of Amarillo; four sisters, Edwinia Kay Owens of Las Vegas, Barbara Scheck and Renee Elizabeth Reining, both of Amarillo, and Beverly Hawks of Shawnee Mission, Kan.; three brothers, Edward Aloysius Reining Jr. and Ronald Cargill, both of Amarillo, and William Reining of Athens, Tenn.; and three grandsons. Kathryn Farris Kathryn Farris, 68, of Amarillo, former longtime Spearman resident, died Thursday, July 17, 1997. Graveside services will be at 2:30 p.m. Monday in Hansford County Cemetery in Spearman with the Rev. Fines Marcham of First Baptist Church in Skellytown officiating. Arrangements are by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 S. Georgia St. Mrs. Farris was born in Mangum, Okla. She lived in Spearman for 35 years before moving to Amarillo a year ago. She married R.T. Farris in 1945. He died in 1992. Mrs. Farris was a homemaker and a member of the Women's Bowling Association. Survivors include a daughter, Rebecca Etheredge of Amarillo; a sister, Marie Redin of Anadarko, Okla.; and a brother, James Cotten of Coon Rapids, Minn. The family will be at 6300 Susie Road. Dollye Gwyn Dollye Gwyn, 79, of Amarillo, died Thursday, July 17, 1997. Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday in San Jacinto United Methodist Church with the Rev. Bill Fitzgerald and the Rev. Royce Womack officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery by Memorial Park Funeral Home, 6969 E. Interstate 40. Mrs. Gwyn was born in Hubbard and had been a longtime Amarillo resident. She married Henry Gwyn in 1945 at Clovis, N.M. She worked as an interior decorator before retiring in 1982. She was a member of San Jacinto United Methodist Church and the Heritage Class. Survivors include her husband; a son, Warren Gwyn of Amarillo; two daughters, Margie Cox of Euless and Pat Drake of Amarillo; a sister, Christine Schmidt of Burleson; two grandchildren; and a greatgrandchild. The family requests memorials in lieu of flowers be to the American Cancer Society. Oklahoma Vesta Hampsten OKLAHOMA CITY - Vesta Hampsten, 81, died Wednesday, July 16, 1997. Services will be at 2 p.m. today in Church of Christ at Hooker with Don Nelson officiating. Burial will be in Hooker Cemetery by Roberts Brothers Funeral Home of Hooker. Mrs. Hampsten was born in Hooker and graduated from Hooker High School in 1934. She married Otis Hampsten in 1936 at Ulysses, Kan. They lived in Hooker until World War II, when they moved to Wichita, Kan. They lived in Wichita for three years before returning to Hooker, where they farmed. Mr. Hampsten died in 1989. Mrs. Hampsten was a member of Church of Christ of Hooker and the Builders and Doers. She had written the Duncan family history. Survivors include five daughters, Sharon Houseman of Liberal, Kan., Donita Paulk of Haven, Kan., Janice Dorsch of Oklahoma City, Kathleen Ruthledge of Choctaw and Carolyn Wischoff of Kingwood, Texas; 10 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and four stepgreat-grandchildren. Lewis Ledbetter GUYMON, Okla. - Lewis Ledbetter, 65, died Wednesday, July 16, 1997, in Amarillo. Services will be at 10 a.m. today in Bunch-Roberts Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Dereck Cox, pastor of Boise City First Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Elmhurst Cemetery. Mr. Ledbetter was born in Neosho, Mo. He graduated from Stilwell High School at Stilwell. He married Shirley Adair in 1952 at Lincoln, Ark. They moved to Guymon in 1961 from Hobbs, N.M. He worked with Beredco Drilling Co. in the oil field for 41 years. Mr. Ledbetter was a member of Trinity Baptist Church. Survivors include his wife; three children, Gary Ledbetter and Linda Scott, both of Guymon, and Tim Ledbetter of Liberal, Kan.; two sisters, Elva Parsons of Oklahoma City and Betty Gist of Dalhart, Texas; a brother, David Ledbetter of Neosho; seven grandchildren; and a greatgrandson. Jan Ruth Waters Houser SAN ANGELO - Jan Ruth Waters Houser, 61, died Wednesday, July 16, 1997, in Idlewild, N.M. Memorial services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, July 25, in Emmanuel Episcopal Church with the Rev. Mike Smith officiating. Entombment will be in the columbarium in the church garden. Arrangements are by Johnson's Funeral Home. Mrs. Houser was born in Canadian. She attended Canadian High School and graduated from Hardin-Simmons University in Abilene with a bachelor's degree in music. She studied piano and harp at the National Music Camp at Interlochen, Mich., a branch of the University of Michigan. She taught piano and harp lessons for many years in Amarillo, Roswell, N.M., and Corpus Christi. She played the harp in the Amarillo Symphony and the Roswell Symphony. She also played for a short time with the Corpus Christi Symphony before moving to San Angelo three years ago. Mrs. Houser was the organist for the Idlewild Community Church for many years during the summer. She also served on the Idlewild board of directors. She was an active member of Church of the Good Shepherd and Emmanuel Episcopal Church in San Angelo. She participated in the choir and St. Catherine's Guild. Survivors include her husband, Philip S. House of San Angelo; two sons, Warren S. House of Dallas and Hayden S. Houser of San Francisco; and a brother, Philemon Waters of Grants, N.M. Mr. Shumate was born in Chelsea, Okla., and had lived in Pampa since 1942. He worked for Phillips Petroleum Co. for 35 years as a field operator. He retired in 1976. He was a Methodist and a member of the Pampa Senior Citizens Center. Mr. Shumate married Margaret Scott in 1935 at Paola, Kan. Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Joy Hampton of Seabrook; three granddaughters; and two great-granddaughters. Mrs. Browning was born in Allen County, Kan., and had lived in Pampa since 1979. She married Bernard M. Browning in 1937 at Chanute, Kan. She was a homemaker and a member of First United Methodist Church. Survivors include her husband; a daughter, Norma Cline of Manhattan, Kan.; a sister, Marjorie Lewis of Temple; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. The family suggests memorials be to First United Methodist Church or to a favorite charity. Michie Jim Thaten CHILDRESS - Michie Jim Thaten, 70, died Friday, July 18, 1997. Graveside services will be at 4 p.m. today in Childress Cemetery with the Rev. Irvin Stanke of Central Christian Church officiating. Arrangements are by Johnson Funeral Home. Mr. Thaten was born in Childress. He worked as a general contractor and had served two terms as mayor of Childress. He was a veteran, an artist and a 32nd Degree Mason. He married LaJuana Jones in 1947 at Childress. Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Diane Galyean and Becky Wells, both of Childress; a son, Mike Thaten of Denton; two brothers, Jim Thaten of Santa Barbara, Calif., and Pat Thaten of Childress; and seven grandchildren. Mary Lavada Peterson PLAINVIEW - Mary Lavada Campbell Peterson, 92, a former Plainview resident, died Wednesday, July 16, 1997, in Fort Worth. Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday in Lemons Funeral Home Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Robert Roecker, associate pastor at College Heights Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Parklawn Memorial Gardens. Mrs. Peterson was born and raised in Bowie and attended school there. She married John Boyd Peterson in 1921 at Haskell. They lived in Winters and Coleman. They moved to Long Beach, Calif., in 1943 and to Plainview in 1945. Mr. Peterson died in 1981. Mrs. Peterson was employed by Furr's Grocery Store in Plainview until retiring in 1977. She moved to Amarillo in 1982 and to Granbury in 1990. She returned to Amarillo in 1992 and moved back to Granbury in 1993. She was a member of College Heights Baptist Church. Survivors include two daughters, Lou Ella West of Granbury and Wanda Johnson of Amarillo; a son, Boyd Peterson of Amarillo; a brother, R.Q. Campbell of Amarillo; nine grandchildren; 19 greatgrandchildren; and 10 great-great-grandchildren. Miro Paul Pakan McLEAN - Miro Paul Pakan, 91, died Friday, July 18, 1997. Devotional services will be at 7:30 p.m. Sunday in Lamb Funeral Home. Services will be at 3 p.m. Monday in Trinity Lutheran Church in Shamrock with the Rev. Andrew Simcak, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Pakan Cemetery by Lamb Funeral Home. Mr. Pakan was born in Shamrock and moved to McLean in 1944 from Shamrock. He operated Miro Pakan Trucking Co. for 45 years. He married Irene Budinsky in 1938 at Whiting, Ind. Mr. Pakan was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church. Survivors include his wife; a son, John Pakan of Palmer, Alaska; three daughters, Dorothy Brinson of San Angelo, Ruth Jones of Parker, Colo., and Margie Eschenborg of Waco; a brother, Edward Pakan of Shamrock; two sisters, Christine Hrnciar of Shamrock and Anna Dolak of Seward, Neb.; nine grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.
