Burial was at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Memory Gardens Cemetery by Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors. Mrs. Russell was born in Seminole, Okla. She had lived in Pampa for more than 50 years. She was a waitress at several restaurants and bars. She also worked with Mangold Janitorial Services, a subcontractor for Hoechst Celanese Chemical Group. She was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church in Borger. She married Earl Andrew Russell in 1975 at Clayton, N.M. He died in 1992. Survivors include a sister, Dorothy M. Reed of Chesapeake, Va.; and friend, Scottie Herring of Pampa. The family suggests memorials be to Hospice of the Panhandle, P.O. Box 2795, Pampa, Texas 79066-2795. Lawrence Anthony SPEARMAN - Lawrence "L.L.'' Anthony, 84, died Monday, June 16, 1997. Memorial services will be at 10 a.m. Friday in Hansford Manor with the Rev. Jeff Lust of First United Methodist Church officiating. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Home. Mr. Anthony was born in Great Bend, Neb. He had lived in the Spearman area for 47 years, moving from Thermopolis, Wyo. He married Anita Babitzke Schoenhals in 1964 at Canadian. Mr. Anthony was an electrician and owned and operated Anthony Electric in Spearman from 1954 to 1990, when he retired. He served in the Marines from 1942 to 1945 during World War II in Guam, the Solomon Islands, New Zealand and Bougaenville. He was a member of First United Methodist Church, Hansford Lodge No. 1040 AF&AM, the Scottish Rite in Lubbock and Khiva Temple of the Shrine. He was a charter member of the Spearman Industrial Foundation. He was the Spearman Chamber of Commerce Citizen of the Year in 1974. Survivors include his wife; two stepsons, Eugene Schoenhals of Panhandle and Garner Schoenhals of Canadian; a stepdaughter, Roberta Whitehead of Kingwood; and a sister, Marie Halone of Billings, Mont. The family suggests memorials be to a favorite charity. Lena Vaughan WELLINGTON - Lena Vaughan, 80, died Tuesday, June 17, 1997. Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday in First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Steve Ulrey, pastor of the Perryton First United Methodist Church, and the Rev. Brian Adams, pastor of the Wellington First United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery by Adams Funeral Home. Mrs. Vaughan was born in Batesville, Ark. She moved to Dodson with her family in 1928. She later moved to Shamrock and graduated from high school there in 1933. She married Walter Carr in 1933 at Shamrock. He died in 1950. She married Gene Vaughan in 1951 at Shamrock. He died in 1980. She married Coy Vaughan in 1983 at Wellington. He died in 1995. Mrs. Vaughan was an Avon salesperson for many years. She was a member of First United Methodist Church. Survivors include two sons, Jerry Carr of Austin and Bobby Carr of Victoria; two daughters, Pat Henry of Shamrock and Debbie Bills of Amarillo; a brother, Ansel Tugwell of Ellensburg, Wash.; a sister, Hester Patterson of Amarillo; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. The family will be at 612 S. Main St. in Shamrock. They will receive friends at the funeral home from 7 to 9 p.m. today. They request memorials be to the Wellington Cemetery Association or First United Methodist Church. Joe Richards BORGER - Joe Richards, 90, died Wednesday, June 18, 1997. Services will be at 11 a.m. today in Minton / Chatwell Funeral Directors Memorial Chapel with Bruce Ridling, minister from Borger, officiating. Burial will be in the Garden of Serenity at Westlawn Memorial Park. Mr. Richards was born in Liberty, Neb. He played music in several famous orchestras before settling in Borger in 1926. He founded Joe Richards Music Co. in 1953 and was the owner at the time of his death. He taught music and provided musical entertainment for local functions. He had lived the longest of the original settlers of musicians who played music and entertained at Borger's first birthday. Mr. Richards was of the Protestant faith. Survivors include his wife, Maxine Richards; a son, William Daniel "Danny'' Richards of Borger; two daughters, Kathy Ridling of Borger and Lisa Hatch of Dumas; eight grandchildren; and a greatgrandchild. Virginia Jolly PAMPA - Virginia Jolly, 86, died Tuesday, June 17, 1997. Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Friday in Fairview Cemetery with Jack Gindorf of Pampa officiating. Arrangements are by Minton / Chatwell Funeral Directors. Mrs. Jolly was born in Muskogee, Okla., and had been a Pampa resident since 1944. She married L.W. "Cap'' Jolly in 1931 at Muskogee, Okla. He died in 1989. Survivors include a son, Neil Jolly of Gatesville; a daughter, Ginger Ackfeld of San Antonio; and six grandchildren. The family requests memorials be to Hospice of the Panhandle. The family will be at 2544 Christine. They will receive visitors from 7 to 9 p.m. today at the home. Amarillo Gwen Gruver Pyeatt Gwen Gruver Pyeatt, 67, of Amarillo, died Friday, June 6, 1997. Memorial services were Monday, June 9, at the Christian Church with Douglas Skinner, pastor, and Tommy Gruver, brother of the deceased, officiating. Service arrangements were by the family. Cremation was by Memorial Park Funeral Home, 6969 E. Interstate 40. Mrs. Pyeatt was born in Amarillo. She worked at the Women's Resource Center and was a member of the Christian Church. Survivors include her husband, Ben Pyeatt of Amarillo; two sons, Drew Harbour of Austin and Bob Gardner of Austin; three sisters, Medwin Taylor of Maine, Lou Hamilton of New Boston and Billie Johnson of Amarillo; a brother, Tommy Gruver of El Paso; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Virgil E. Hagaman Virgil E. Hagaman, 89, of Canon City, Colo., a former Amarillo resident, died Tuesday, June 17, 1997. Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Friday in Llano Cemetery with Dr. Jim Garrett of Polk Street United Methodist Church officiating. Arrangements are by Blackburn-Shaw Funeral Directors, Memorial Chapel, Fifth Avenue and Pierce Street. Mr. Hagaman was born in Greensburg, Kan. He graduated from Hugoton High School, where he was a scholar, musician and athlete. He was a resident of Canon City from 1947 to 1959. He was a propane distributor there and owned Hagaman Gas and Appliance. He was active in First Methodist Church. He sang in the church choir and a barbershop quartet. He moved to Pueblo, Colo., and lived there until 1962. He later moved to Amarillo and operated a service station and sold seed for Moorman Feed Co. After retiring, he was a maintenance custodian for the Amarillo Independent School District for nine years. Mr. Hagaman played the guitar, piano and harmonica. He was member of First Methodist Church of Canon City and Polk Street United Methodist Church of Amarillo. He sang in both church choirs. He also was a member of the Amarillo Barbershop Men's Chorus. He was president of the Exchange Club in Canon City and president of the Methodist Men's Club in Canon City. He was preceded in death by two wives, Elaine in 1958 and Kay Blair in 1995, and a son, Dennis, in 1970. Survivors include a daughter, Judy Ford of Canon City; a son, Alan Hagaman of Dallas; two brothers, Verl Hagaman of Pampa and Marion Hagaman of Colorado Springs, Colo.; two sisters, Mae Dean of Hugoton, Kan., and Vera Adams of Wichita, Kan.; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. The family requests memorials in lieu of flowers be to the Kidney Foundation, 1805 S. Bellaire, Suite 301, Denver, Colo., 80222. Mario Valles Mario Valles, 33, of Amarillo, died Tuesday, June 17, 1997. Services and burial will be in La Boquilla de Conchos, Chihuahua, Mexico. Arrangements are by Colonial Funeral Chapel, 1010 W. Ninth Ave. Mr. Valles was born in Chihuahua. He had lived in Amarillo for several years. He was a construction worker. Survivors include his mother, Juana Diaz; four sisters, Isabel Valles, Manuella Valles, Francisca Valles and Carolina Valles, all of Mexico; and a brother, Rafael Valles of Perryton. The body will not be available for viewing. New Mexico Flossie Argeree McAlister PORTALES, N.M. - Flossie Argeree Williams McAlister, 84, died Tuesday, June 17, 1997. Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday in University Drive Church of Christ with Ron Cope officiating. Burial will be in Portales Cemetery by Wheeler Mortuary of Portales Inc. Mrs. McAlister was born in Ada, Okla., and raised in White House, Texas. She graduated from North Texas University at Denton, Texas, and moved to Plains, Texas, where she became the home demonstration agent. She married Winburn Benson "Ben'' McAlister in 1941 at Plains. She lived in Plains until moving to San Antonio after her husband joined the Army. They moved to other duty locations during World War II but settled at Delphos, west of Portales, in 1946. They farmed there and ran dairy cattle. In 1952, they moved to the Bethel community and continued to farm. In 1962, they closed the dairy portion of their farm but continued farming until 1971, when they retired. They then moved to Clovis. Mr. McAlister died in 1977. Mrs. McAlister returned to Portales. She was active in the Bethel Homemakers Club and the Portales Woman's Club. Survivors include three sons, Floyd Winburn McAlister and Charles Allen McAlister, both of Portales, and Thomas Edward McAlister of Floyd; a brother, Leonard Williams of Amarillo; six grandsons; and five great-grandchildren. The body will be available for viewing before services. Robert McKinney CLOVIS, N.M. - Robert "Bob'' McKinney, 54, died Tuesday, June 17, 1997. Services will be at 2 p.m. today in The Chapel. Burial will be in Santa Fe National Cemetery with military honors by Cannon Air Force Base Honor Guard. Arrangements are by Muffley Funeral Home. Mr. McKinney was born in Floydada, Texas. He attended schools in Clovis. After graduating he served four years with the Navy's amphibious forces. He was a radio signalman first class on the USS Jerome County, a landing ship. He worked for Santa Fe Railway as a sheetmetal worker for 22 years. He attended Central Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Shelly McKinney, and a stepson, David Davis. Survivors include his wife, Joyce; a son, Cliff McKinney of Los Lunas; four daughters, Cory McKinney Spencer of Portales, Diane Cunningham of Clovis, Patricia Champion of Alligator Point, Fla., and Carolyn Lockhart of Dallas; his mother, Benja McKinney of Clovis; a brother, Billy Jack McKinney of Orange, Texas; a sister, Debra McKamy of Beaumont, Texas; and eight grandchildren. The family suggests memorials be to the American Cancer Society or a favorite charity. Ardath L. Hawkins CLOVIS, N.M. - Ardath L. Hawkins, 88, died Tuesday, June 17, 1997. Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday in Steed-Todd Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Billy Hines Jr. officiating. Burial will be in Lawn Haven Memorial Gardens. Mrs. Hawkins was born in Laurel, Miss., and moved to Clovis in 1968. She founded Hawkins Kindergarten in 1969 and retired from teaching in 1994. She was a member of Central Baptist Church and started the special education class at the church in 1969. She was a life member of the Retired Teachers Association and the Night WMU Circle. Survivors include her husband, Jesse; a stepdaughter, Susan Girard of Fullerton, Calif.; and two sisters, Laura Hilton of Laurel and Ruth Ates of Jackson, Miss. Ester Mae Cooper LORDSBURG, N.M. - Ester Mae Cooper, 83, died Saturday, June 14, 1997. Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. today in Lawn Haven Memorial Gardens at Clovis with Dr. Thomas P. Jones officiating. Arrangements are by Steed-Todd Funeral Home of Clovis. Ms. Cooper was born in Plymouth, Texas. Survivors include three sisters, Ida Bogart of Tucumcari, Bertha Drager of Hereford, Texas, and Mildred Arnold of Central Point, Ore.; and a brother, Richard Melvin Cooper of Darnell, Ark. Oklahoma Leona Laura Pauls HOOKER, Okla. - Leona Laura Pauls, 85, died Monday, June 16, 1997, at Liberal, Kan. Services will be at 10 a.m. today in Mennonite Brethren Church of Adams with the Rev. Steve Unruh officiating. Burial will be in Mennonite Brethren Cemetery near Adams by Roberts Brothers Funeral Home. Mrs. Pauls was born southeast of Hooker and was raised and attended school in the Fairview County area. She married Pete George Pauls in 1930 at Hooker. They lived and farmed in the Adams and Hooker area until 1984 when they moved into Hooker. Mrs. Pauls was a member of Mennonite Brethren Church in Adams. Survivors include her husband; two sons, Harold Pauls of Belleville, Kan., and Jerry Pauls of Beaver; two sisters, Orlene Peck of Longview, Wash., and Vera Edwards of Chowchilla, Calif.; 12 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren. LaVona Harris BALKO, Okla. - LaVona Harris, 80, died Monday, June 16, 1997. Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday in the Balko School Auditorium with the Rev. Howard Stone officiating. Private burial will be in Gray Cemetery by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Home of Perryton, Texas. Mrs. Harris was born in Beaver County and had been a lifetime Balko resident. She married Cody Harris in 1937 at Beaver. She was a photographer and operated LaVona's Studio for 25 years. She was a member of Gray Church. Survivors include her husband; two sons, Waymon L. Harris of Macedon, N.Y., and Jay Harris of Amarillo; a daughter, Gayla Thompson of Amarillo; three sisters, Lorena Johnson of Perryton, and Opal Morrison and Irene Anderson, both of Amarillo; 11 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. Wilson Funeral Directors Chapel with the Rev. Bill Cook officiating. Burial will be at 4 p.m. Saturday in Shamrock Cemetery at Shamrock. Mr. Sherwood was born in Shamrock. He retired from Brown and Root Construction as a construction engineer after 38 years of service. He was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church and the Masonic Lodge. Survivors include his wife, Enid J. Sherwood; two sons, John E. Sherwood of Dallas and Stanley Dale Sherwood of Seguin; a daughter, Caroline Sherwood of Dallas; a brother, Cecil Sherwood of Santa Fe, N.M.; two sisters, Mabel Seiler of Cheney, Kan., and Dolly Shull of Tuscumbia, Ala.; and two grandsons.
