Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Mrs. Black was born in Wichita, Kan. She was a cab driver. She was preceded in death by a son, Robert Glenn Anthony Thayer. Survivors include her husband, Thomas Black; four sons, Brian Coffey, Larry Butler and Kevin Butler, all of Tulsa, Okla., and David Butler; four daughters, Anita McDonald and Leona Carey, both of Amarillo, Sherry Kaiser of Tulsa and Ronnie Marie Kaiser of San Antonio; three sisters, Kathy Gay of Adair, Okla., Judy Galvan of Los Angeles and Rose Melton of Euless; and 17 grandchildren. Arrangements are by Schooler Funeral Home Inc., 4100 S. Georgia St. Mrs. Doche was born in Clayton, N.M. She graduated from Clayton High School in 1927. She was a elementary school teacher. She married William Roy Doche in 1943. He died in 1971. Mrs. Doche was a buyer for the infants' department at Sears. She was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church and Polk Street United Methodist Church. She had been a resident of The Continental for more than 10 years. Survivors include a son and daughterin-law, Jerry and Jayne Gross of The Woodlands; a sister, Sue Wooten of Florida; and two grandsons. The family requests memorials be to a favorite charity. Donna Dean Baker Donna Dean Baker, 65, of Amarillo, died Thursday, Oct. 16, 1997. Services were Saturday in Brooks Funeral Directors Chapel in Canyon with Dr. Charles Price, pastor, officiating. Burial was in Memorial Gardens Mausoleum. Mrs. Baker was born in Happy. She grew up in Canyon and attended Canyon public school. She married Joe Van Sant in 1946 at Canyon. They lived in Fairbanks, Alaska, for nine years, and moved to Tennessee to retire. Mr. Van Sant died in 1988. She married Thomas J. Baker in 1991 at Huntingdon, Tenn. Mrs. Baker moved to Amarillo in 1993. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Big Sandy, Tenn. Survivors include her husband; a son, Steve Van Sant of Palmer, Alaska; two daughters, Vicki Salyer of Montgomery, Ala., and Karen Anderson of Princeton, Ind.; three sisters, Sissy Spraberry of Amarillo, Lois Shaw of Fort Worth and Gladys Byrd of Alex, Okla.; a brother, Wilbur Davis of Canyon; seven grandchildren; and a great-grandson. Evelyn Burgan Vanderslice Evelyn Burgan Vanderslice, 79, of Amarillo, died Thursday, Oct. 16, 1997. Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at First Christian Church by Memorial Park Funeral Home, 6969 E. Interstate 40. Mrs. Vanderslice was born in Amarillo and was a lifelong resident. She was a Realtor. She was a member of the Pilot Club. She was preceded in death by two husbands, Albert Jack Burgan and J.P. Vanderslice, and a daughter, Jackie Mock. Iva Vera Hughlett Iva Vera Hughlett, 90, of Amarillo, died Friday, Oct. 17, 1997. Services will be at Memorial Park North Mausoleum with Dr. Dana Moore of Pleasant Valley Baptist Church officiating. Burial will be at Memorial Park Cemetery. Ms. Hughlett was born in West Plains, Mo. She moved from Kansas City, Kan. to Amarillo in 1988. For many years she made her home with her brother, Alfred M. Hughlett, on River Road. He preceded her in death. She was retired from the Internal Revenue Service. Garson McGee Garson McGee, 71, of Amarillo, died Thursday, Oct. 16, 1997. Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday in the Chapel of Roses at Warford-Walker Mortuary Inc., 509 N. Hughes St., with the Rev. Roger Battle officiating. The body is being donated to Texas Tech University at Lubbock. Mr. McGee was born in Terrell, where he attended publics schools. Survivors include her husband, Jimmy Lee Walton; two sons, Charles Wyatt and Perry Lee Wyatt, both of Atlanta; two brothers, Cecil Wyatt and Waddell Wyatt, both of Sacramento, Calif.; a sister, Mable Davis of San Diego; and two grandchildren. Mrs. Williams was born in Ramsdell and attended Pampa schools. She then attended Odessa College, Sul Ross State, West Texas State, Texas Tech and the University of San Diego at Guadalajara. She had degrees in mathematics, English and Spanish. She married Billy D. Williams in 1946 at Clarendon. Mrs. Williams was an educator at Andrews and at University of Texas-Permian Basin. She was a member of Means Memorial United Methodist Church. Survivors include her husband; two sons, Paul Williams of Andrews and John Williams of Austin; two sisters, Joy Scott of Midwest City, Okla., and Jo Pletcher of Magnolia, Ark.; and two grandchildren. Horace Marion Lee Knox JACKSBORO - Horace Marion Lee Knox, 78, of Chico, died Friday, Oct. 17, 1997. Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday in Coker Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Charles A. Cox officiating. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery. Mr. Knox was born in Jack County. He married Estaline Middlebrooks in 1942 at Norfolk, Va. He was a member of the Coast Guard during World War II. He was an auditor for the Texas Highway Department in Amarillo. He was a member of Morris Memorial Methodist Church in Chico. Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Linda Wilson of Arlington; a son, Arnold Knox of Pittsburgh; two brothers, John Knox of Fort Worth and Joe Knox of Amarillo; a sister, Katherine Thomas of Fort Worth; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Oklahoma Ruth E. Taylor ELMWOOD - Ruth E. Taylor, 84, died Thursday, Oct. 16, 1997. Services will be at 2:30 p.m. today at the Beaver Church of Christ with David Glasscock and Paxson Gordon officiating. Burial will be in the Sophia Cemetery by Clark Funeral Home. Mrs. Taylor was born in Beaver County, where she attended high school. She married Gordon Lee Taylor in 1937 at Elmwood. He died in 1990. She was a homemaker and a member of the Church of Christ for more than 70 years. Survivors include two sons, Larry Taylor of Woodward and Maynard F. Taylor of Bronson, Kan.; a daughter, Marquita Hoover of Elmwood; nine grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren. Linda Lou Worley TEXHOMA - Linda Lou Worley, 53, died Saturday, Oct. 18, 1997. Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Monday in Texhoma Cemetery with the Rev. Charles Byer, pastor of St. Paul Lutheran Church, officiating. Arrangements are by Dawson-Welch Funeral Home. Mrs. Worley had been a resident of Texhoma since 1983, when she married Bill Worley at Clayton, N.M. She was a homemaker. The family requests memorials be to Meals on Wheels Inc. Area Max Baird GOODNIGHT - Max Baird, 67, died Friday, Oct. 17, 1997, in Amarillo. Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at the Cross in Groom. Graveside services will be at 3:30 p.m. Monday in Goodnight Cemetery with the Rev. Alan Burkhalter of Chaparral Hills Baptist Church officiating. Arrangements are by Rector Funeral Home, 2800 S. Osage St., in Amarillo. Mr. Baird was born in Kelton. He married Betty Jo McCray in 1948 at Shamrock. In 1963, they moved to Hereford, S.D., where Mr. Baird donated an acre of land to start Emmanuel Baptist Church. They moved to Goodnight in 1971. Mr. Baird farmed and ranched at Goodnight and continued to minister until earlier this year. He was a member of Martin Baptist Church. Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Deanna Jolene Campbell of Claude; two sons, Johnny Max Baird of Pampa and Tony Brent Baird of Claude; a sister, Peggy Anderson Newman of Amarillo; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. The family will be at their home in Goodnight. They will receive friends at the Goodnight Community Center after the graveside services. Lena Italla Ward TULIA - Lena Italla Ward, 96, of Fountain Valley, Calif., a former Tulia resident, died Monday, Oct. 13, 1997. Services were Saturday in Wallace Funeral Home with the Rev. Jesse Hodge, pastor of First United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial was in Rose Hill Cemetery. Mrs. Ward was born in Leonard. She began her retail career in 1925, working at Galloway's in Leonard and then moving to Tulia. In Tulia, she worked at Mitchell's Dry Goods and Lavelle's for 12 years. She married Lee Ward in 1928. They moved to Amarillo in 1942. In 1952, they bought Ward's Gift and Variety Store, which they owned and operated until Mr. Ward's death in 1963. After selling the store, Mrs. Ward worked at Raylee Hat Shop in Amarillo. She continued to live in Amarillo until moving to Fountain Valley to live with her daughter. She was a member of Temple Baptist Church in Amarillo and First Baptist Church of Fountain Valley / Huntington Beach. She had lived at the Newport Rehabilitation and Living Center in Newport Beach, Calif., for the past 11/2 years. Survivors include her daughter, Doris Flinn; four grandchildren; and four greatgrandchildren. Sonya Leonard FRITCH - Sonya Leonard, 15, died Friday, Oct. 17, 1997, in Amarillo. Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday in First Baptist Church at Sanford with the Rev. Ricky Griffin, pastor, officiating. Burial will in the Garden of Love at Westlawn Memorial Park by Minton / ChatwellFuneral Directors. Sonya was born in Borger and had been a lifetime resident of Sanford. She attended eighth grade at Sanford-Fritch Junior High School. She was on the Borger Bullets Special Olympic Team, where she was involved in track and field events. She had received several medals for her accomplishments. Sonya was a Baptist. Survivors include her parents, Burney and Sherry Leonard; two sisters, Tasha Leonard and Shana Leonard, both of the home; grandparents, Howard and Linda Davis, and Dub and Mary Leonard, all of Borger; and a great-grandparent, LaVern East of Borger. Lois Gorden Wilkinson PAMPA - Lois Gordon Wilkinson, died Friday, Oct. 17, 1997. Memorial services will be at 3 p.m. Wednesday at St. Matthew's Episcopal Church with the Rev. Jake Clemmens, rector, officiating. Cremation was by Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors. Mrs. Wilkinson was born in Miami. She was the granddaughter of the Gordon and Gills pioneer ranch families who settled Roberts County. She graduated from Miami High School in 1928 and attended Texas Woman's College in Fort Worth and the Kansas City Conservatory, where she majored in music. She married Audree Clark Wilkinson in 1931. They worked as farmers and ranchers for 35 years in Gray County until his death. She served on the Texas State Democratic Executive Committee and served as president of the Hospital Auxiliary, where she worked for many years as a volunteer. She retired from Shepard's Crook Nursing Agency in 1995 as a patient coordinator. Survivors include a daughter, Dauna Sue Wilkinson of Pampa; a son and daughter-in-law, Ernest B. and Suzanne Wilkinson of Pampa; five grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. Mr. Winkleblack was born in Pampa, where he had been a lifelong resident, and graduated from Pampa High School in 1989. He married Sonya Martin in 1989. He had worked for Culberson-StowersBody Shop and Fords Body Shop where he was currently the manager. He was a member of the Foursquare Church. Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Ashlee Winkleblack; his parents, Wendel and Linda Winkleblack of Pampa; a brother, Wendel Winkleblack, Jr. of Pampa; a sister, Wendy Henderson of San Augustine; grandparents, Frank and Lola Winkleblack of Pampa, and grandmother, Juanita Wood of Pampa. Family requests memorials be to a favorite charity. Alice George Fuston TURKEY - Alice George Fuston, 91, died Saturday, Oct. 18, 1997, in Childress. Services will be at 2:30 p.m. Monday at First Baptist Church of Turkey with the Rev. Melvin Clinton, pastor, and Stuart Smith, minister of Turkey Church of Christ, officiating. Burial will be in Dreamland Cemetery by Myers-Long Funeral Directors of Turkey. Mrs. Fuston was born in Iuka, Miss. She moved to Turkey in a covered wagon when she was 12. She married John A. Fuston in 1925 at Turkey. He preceded her in death. She also was preceded in death by a daughter, Loetta Ferguson. She was a member of the Turkey Senior Citizens Association and a member of the Assembly of God Church until it disbanded. Then she attended First Baptist Church of Turkey. Survivors include a daughter, Ruth Lyles of Childress; three sons, James Fuston and Denny Fuston, both of Turkey, and John Fuston of Hereford; a brother, Aubrey George of Plainview; 13 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren. The family requests memorials be to First Baptist Church or the Dreamland Cemetery Association. Brona Lucille Swain CLARENDON - Brona Lucille Swain, 85, died Friday, Oct. 17, 1997. Services will be at 2:30 p.m. today at the Clarendon Church of Christ with Mike Suiter, minister, and Don Stone of Clarendon officiating. Burial will be in North Fairview Cemetery in Memphis. Arrangements are by Robertson Funeral Directors Inc. Mrs. Swain was born in Bonham and had lived in Hall County for most of her life before moving to Donley County 30 years ago. She married Elmer Teel in 1931 at Lakeview. He died in 1959. She married Dee Swift in 1962 at Memphis and he died in 1984. She married D.W. Swain in 1988 at Bryan. She worked for five years as a nurse in Memphis and for 15 years in nursing homes in Clarendon before retiring in 1987. She was a member of the Donley County Senior Citizens Association and a member of the Clarendon Church of Christ. Survivors include her husband; a daughter, Lezeta Guthrie of Bryan; a son, Royce Teel of Clarendon; two stepdaughters, Wilma Dee Richerson of Canyon and Jeletta Gatewood of Gage, Okla.; seven grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren. Audie Poteet MATADOR - Audie Poteet, 94, formerly of Matador, died Friday, Oct. 17, 1997, in Amarillo. Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at the First Baptist Church of Matador with the Rev. James Hancock, director of Lubbock Association of Missions, officiating. Burial will be in Eastmound Cemetery by Seigler Funeral Home. Local arrangements are by N.S. Griggs & Sons Funeral Directors. Mrs. Poteet was born in Limestone County and had lived in Matador since 1934. She was a member of First Baptist Church. She married Louis Poteet in 1946. He preceded her in death in 1958. Survivors include a daughter, Lossie Breeden of Roseburg, Ore.; two granddaughters of Torrance, Calif.; and a sister, Evelyn Perkins of Amarillo.
