Scott Richards, pastor of United Methodist Church of Darrouzett, officiating. Burial will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery. Mr. Feese was born in Woodward, Okla. He retired from Celanese Corp. in 1979 after 28 years of service. He was an Army veteran of World War II and a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church. He married Elva Holmes in 1941 at Woodward. Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Bonnie Neef of Pampa; a son, Harlan Feese of Atlanta; two brothers, Jim Feese of Woodward and Dwight Feese of Bartlesville, Okla.; and four grandchildren. The family suggests memorials be to the St. Paul United Methodist Church building fund. Helen Hutchins FARWELL - Helen Hutchins, 89, died Monday, Aug. 18, 1997. Services will be at 2 p.m. today in First United Methodist Church Chapel in Clovis, N.M., with Dr. Bill Sylskar and the Rev. Beth Harrington officiating. Burial will be in Mission Garden of Memories in Clovis by Steed-Todd Funeral Home of Clovis. Mrs. Hutchins was born in Bonner Springs, Kan. She graduated from Oklahoma University and earned her master's degree in child psychology from Colombia University. She worked as a social worker in New York before moving in 1933 to Clovis, where she was head of child welfare. She earned a teaching certificate at Eastern New Mexico University and taught school in Clovis at Marshall and Gattis junior high schools. She also taught in Lordsburg, N.M. Mrs. Hutchins was a member of First Methodist Church, the Order of the Eastern Star, Delta Kappa Gamma and the Garden Club. Her husband, Artie Lee Hutchins, died in 1994. Survivors include three sons, Van Hutchins of Denver, Jerry Hutchins of Vancouver, Wash., and Lee Hutchins of Farwell; a sister, Dale Angers of Boise, Idaho; 12 grandchildren; and 21 greatgrandchildren. The family will be at 512 Second in Farwell. Paula Silva DIMMITT - Paula Silva, 82, died Monday, Aug. 18, 1997. Services will be today in Nuevo Laredo, Mexico. Burial will be in Nuevo Laredo Cemetery by Foskey-Lilley-McGill Funeral Home. Mrs. Silva was born in San Marcos. She lived in Nuevo Laredo before moving to Dimmitt in 1980. She was a Catholic and a homemaker. She married Francisco Silva in 1930 at Nuevo Laredo. He died in 1975. Survivors include four daughters, Juana Guajardo of Dimmitt, Isabel Valdez of Greensboro, N.C., and Lenore Silva and Emma Solis, both of Nuevo Laredo; four sons, Jacinto Silva, Gerado Silva, Sylvestre Silva and Jose Silva, all of Nuevo Laredo; 37 grandchildren; 15 greatgrandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren. Virginia M. Rose TULIA - Virginia M. Rose, 97, a former Tulia resident, died Tuesday, Aug. 19, 1997, in Hudson, Fla. Services will be at 4 p.m. Saturday in Wallace Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Jesse Hodge, pastor of First United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery. Mrs. Rose was born in Center and raised in Center and Denton. She graduated from high school in Denton. She graduated from the College for the Industrial Arts, which is now Texas Woman's University in Denton. She married Howard L. Rose in 1925 at Waxahachie. They moved to Swisher County in 1928. Mr. Rose died in 1975. Mrs. Rose she taught elementary school in Elkins and Tulia. She moved to Hereford in 1975 and to Hudson in 1992. She was a member of Tulia First United Methodist Church. Survivors include a daughter, Frances Leavitt of Springhill, Fla.; three sisters, Bobbie Ethridge of San Antonio, Arra Hahne of Littleton, Colo., and Florence Johnson of Newman, Ga.; three grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. Carmen Taylor Bennett PADUCAH - Carmen Taylor Bennett, 92, a former Paducah resident, died Thursday, Aug. 14, 1997, in Littleton, Colo. Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in First United Methodist Church with Dr. Tilden Armstrong and the Rev. Ed Peckham, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Garden of Memories Cemetery by Seigler Funeral Home. Mrs. Bennett was born near Abbott, in Hill County. She moved to Cottle County in 1908 and lived there for 72 years. She married A.O. Bennett in 1925. He died in 1976. Mrs. Bennett lived in Lubbock before moving to Littleton in 1988. She was a member of First United Methodist Church. She taught in both rural and city schools of Cottle County for more than 40 years. She was active in community affairs. In 1974, she was the first to receive the "Woman of the Year'' award in Paducah. She served as director of the Old Settlers Reunion of King-Cottle counties for many years. She was a member of Cottle County Hospital board of directors, founder of the Sick-Room Supply and an early member of the 1923 Study Club. She also was a member of the Lubbock Women's Club and South Plains Genealogical Society. After retiring in the 1960s, she wrote and published a history of Cottle County titled, "Our Roots Grow Deep'' and a decade later published "Cottle County, My Dear.'' This book told the story of 600 Cottle County families. Survivors include two daughters, Norma Long of Sun Lakes, Ariz., and Rebecca Howard of Littleton; five grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 2 to 5:30 p.m. today and from 10 to 11:30 Thursday. Willie Stewart PADUCAH - Willie Stewart, 72, a former resident of Paducah, died Sunday, Aug. 17, 1997, in Lubbock. Services will be at 4 p.m. Thursday in Paducah First Baptist Church with the Rev. Roger Weeks, pastor of Antioch Baptist Church, and the Rev. Danny Brown of Breckenridge officiating. Burial will be in Garden of Memories Cemetery by Seigler Funeral Home. Mrs. Stewart was born in Paducah and was a longtime resident of the area. She married J.C. Stewart in Paducah. He died in 1985. She was a member of Antioch Baptist Church. Mrs. Stewart was preceded in death by a son, Kenneth Walker; and a stepson, Curtis Ray Stewart. Survivors include three sons, John Walker of Paducah, Verice Walker of Amarillo and Gerald Walker of Tulsa, Okla.; two stepsons, Joe Nelson and Casey Stewart, both of Cypress, Calif.; four daughters, Katie Mae Amos of Fort Worth, Annette Richard of Lubbock, and Christine Brisco and Linda Searcy, both of Paducah; two stepdaughters, Mae Hallie Stewart and Linda Kay Stewart, both of Detroit; a sister, Katie Lee Ervin of Paducah; and a number of grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Helen L. Wilson Bryan HAPPY - Helen L. Wilson Bryan, 56, died Tuesday, Aug. 19, 1997. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in Gladstone Cemetery at Gladstone, N.M., with the Rev. Allan Strickland officiating. Arrangements are by Holley Funeral Home of Canyon. Mrs. Bryan was born in Gainesville. She married Carl Bryan in 1967 at Silverton. The couple drove cattle trucks and worked in the cattle business. She was a member of the Baptist church in Happy. Survivors include her husband; a son, Rowdy Brian of Tulia; her father, Ben Wilson of Amarillo; four brothers, Bennie Wilson and Gary Wilson, both of Fort Worth, Roy Wilson of Midland and Kenny Wilson of Amarillo; and a sister, Linda Fansler of Fairbanks, Alaska. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in Fairview Cemetery at Memphis by Sullivan Funeral Home. Mr. Byrom was born in Rhome. He had lived in Fort Worth and Memphis. He was a former employee of Montgomery Ward. He was a Baptist. Survivors include a brother, Marvin Byrom of Nashville, Ark.; and two sisters, Betty Walton of Amarillo and Thelma Gossett of Pratt, Kan. Clyde R. Wicks MORGAN - Clyde R. Wicks, 70, died Monday, Aug. 18, 1997. Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in Marshall & Marshall Funeral Directors Chapel at Whitney with Barbara Harris, licensed unity teacher, officiating. Burial will be in Fort Graham Cemetery near Whitney. Mr. Wicks was born and raised in St. Louis. He served in the Navy during World War II as a radioman on a hospital ship in the Pacific Theater. He married Ruby Rumburg in 1947 at Waterloo, Ill. Mr. Wicks was a member of American Legion Post No. 522 in Whitney and Elim Lutheran Church in St. Louis. Survivors include his wife, a son, Phillip Wick of St. Louis; a daughter, Sandra Lynch of Amarillo; a brother, George Wicks of St. Louis; two sisters, Dorothy Sparks and Audrey Neiser, both of St. Louis; four grandchildren; and one greatgrandchild. Latham Jones, 90, of Amarillo, died Tuesday, Aug. 19, 1997. She married Wesley W. Jones in 1980. She also was preceded in death by a son, Garth Latham. Mrs. Jones was a longtime member of Jeanette Street Church of Christ. Survivors include her husband; a daughter, Elwanna Collins of Midland; two sons, Joe Latham and Lyndon Latham, both of Amarillo; 12 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren. Local arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2820 Virginia Circle. Mrs. Porter was born in Howard County, Ark., and spent much of her early and later life in Mineral Springs, Ark. She spent the middle years of her life in Amarillo and Moore County. She retired as a health care worker. She was a homemaker and a member of Central Baptist Church in Mineral Springs. She married Idus Shaw Porter in 1934 at Howard County. He died in 1981. Survivors include two daughters, Shirley Rattan and Bobbie Schmidt, both of Amarillo; two sons, Jerome Porter of Texarkana, Ark., and Jack Porter of Beaver, Okla.; a brother, Gene Hooker of Pensacola, Fla.; three sisters, Inez Coleman of Nashville, Ark., Ann McCullough of Mineral Springs and Mildred Jones of Austin; 11 grandchildren; and 17 greatgrandchildren. Box 950, Amarillo, Texas 79176-0001. New Mexico Kathryn Newman ELIDA, N.M. - Kathryn Newman, 80, died Monday, Aug. 18, 1997. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday in First Baptist Church with the Rev. Galen Isaacs and the Rev. Herb Gage officiating. Burial will be in Elida Cemetery by Wheeler Mortuary of Portales Inc. Mrs. Newman lived her entire life in the Elida community. She attended grade school at Pleasant Valley School and graduated from Elida High School in 1934. For several years after her marriage to Vernon G. Newman in 1942 at Clovis, they lived northwest of Elida. In 1951, they moved to a farm and ranched south of Elida, where she was living at the time of her death. Mr. Newman died in 1981. Survivors include a son, Glen Newman of Lakewood, Colo.; and three sisters, Lucille Gibson and Evelyn Carter, both of Elida, and Eloise Erwin of San Diego. Frank J. Joplin CLOVIS, N.M. - Frank J. Joplin, 82, died Sunday, Aug. 17, 1997. Services will be at 10 a.m. today in Parkland Baptist Church with the Rev. Doug Brooks and Forest Coulter officiating. Burial will be in Lawn Haven Memorial Gardens by Steed-Todd Funeral Home. Mr. Joplin was born in Clay County, Texas. He lived his early life in various areas of Texas and in Hope. He ranched with his family. He was an Army veteran, serving in England and France until 1946. He worked as a salesman most of his adult life, first for Gateway Auto Co. and recently for McDaniel Furniture Co. He retired in 1990. Mr. Joplin served for many years as a deacon of Central Baptist Church and later was a deacon and member at Parkland Baptist Church. He also was a member of Parkland Baptist Church Choir, Clovis Masonic Lodge No. 40 AF&AM and Keystone Chapter No. 27 of the Order of the Eastern Star. He married Thelma LaVerne Lightfoot in 1940 at Portales. She died in 1976. He married Thelma Jo Day in 1977 at Albuquerque. Survivors include his wife; her daughter, Sharon Stubblefield; a brother, G.W. Joplin of Rotan, Texas; and a grandson. Sam Welsh LOGAN, N.M. - Sam Welsh, 82, died Saturday, Aug. 16, 1997. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday in First Baptist Church with the Rev. Gary Eggert, minister of Logan Methodist Church, and the Rev. Gene Richardson, minister of Grady Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Logan Cemetery by Dunn Funeral Home of Tucumcari. Mr. Welsh was born in Ericsdale, Manitoba, Canada, and moved to New Mexico at the age of 3. He went to school at New Mexico State University in Las Cruces and received his bachelor's and master's degrees. Before moving to Logan, he was employed by the Farmers Home Administration and ASCS. He was a vocational agriculture teacher at Logan High School for 30 years. He also filled in as a math and science teacher. He was an FFA adviser. He married Mary Lou Phillips in 1940 at Carrizozo. Mr. Welsh was a member of Logan United Methodist Church and the Logan Fire Department. He was a former member of the Lions club. Survivors include his wife; two sons, Jim Welsh of Tucumcari and Sammy Welsh of Ishpeming, Mich.; a daughter, Nancy Sue Humble of Logan; a brother, William Welsh Prest of Canada; 10 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. The body will be available for viewing at the funeral home from Tuesday morning until Thursday evening. Bonnie Mae Briscoe TUCUMCARI, N.M. - Bonnie Mae Briscoe, 83, died Sunday, Aug. 18, 1997. Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday in Dunn Funeral Home Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Bob Miller, minister of First Baptist Church, and the Rev. Dwight Rowe, minister of Nazarene Church, officiating. Burial will be in Tucumcari Memorial Park Cemetery. Mrs. Briscoe was born in Carlsbad and had lived most of her life in Tucumcari. She was a homemaker and a charter member of First Assembly of God Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ira Jack Briscoe, in 1988. Survivors include two sons, Glenn Briscoe of Tucumcari and John Briscoe of Sonoita, Ariz; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. The body will be available for viewing at the funeral home from noon Tuesday until services Thursday. Gabriel Romero CLOVIS, N.M. - Gabriel Romero, 41, died Sunday, Aug. 17, 1997. Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. today in Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Community. Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday in Our Lady of Guadalupe by the Rev. Daniel M. Balizan. Burial will be in Mission Garden of Memories by Muffley Funeral Home. Mr. Romero was born in Clovis and had been a lifetime resident of Clovis. He was a truck driver for Winkles Trucking in Friona, Texas, for 10 years. He was of the Catholic faith. Survivors include three daughters, Donna Rose of Beale Air Force Base, Calif., and Gabriella Romero and Sabrina Montoya, both of Clovis; his mother, Mary Romero of Clovis; seven brothers, Nino Romero, Tommy Romero, Damian Romero, Dathan Romero and Steve Romero, all of Clovis, Sammy Romero of Texico and David Romero of Friona; two sisters, Shiela Ancira of Farwell, Texas, and Sally Ramirez of Clovis; and a godson, Eric Cadena of Albuquerque. Oklahoma Adriana Sherie Rosas BOISE CITY, Okla. - Adriana Sherie Rosas, 8, died Sunday, Aug. 17, 1997. Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in St. Paul United Methodist Church with the Rev. Chuck Murphy officiating. Burial will be in Boise City Cemetery by Cimarron Mortuary. Adriana was born in Boise City. She was a student at Boise City Elementary and Good Shephard Catholic Church. Survivors include her parents, Bernardo and Tammie Rosas; a sister, Amanda Rosas of the home; and a brother, Jesse Rosas of the home.
