Stewart, 51, of 3608 S.E. 29th Ave., died Thursday, Dec. 18, 1997. Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Blackburn-Shaw Funeral Directors, Memorial Chapel, Fifth Avenue and Pierce Street, with the Rev. Freddie L. Richardson, pastor of Soul's Harbor Church, officiating. Burial will be in Llano Cemetery. Mr. Stewart was born in Portales, N.M. He married Linda Sue Howeth in 1968 at Stinnett. He worked for Bell Helicopter for 22 years and Colorado Grease in Brighton, Colo., for one year. He was a member of Soul's Harbor Church. Survivors include his wife; three daughters, Debbie Sustaita, Nancy Carpenter and Sheila Stewart, all of Amarillo; two sons, Jimmy Don Stewart and Donnie Lee Stewart, both of Amarillo; one sister, Crystal Stewart of Amarillo; six brothers, Dale Stewart, Gale Stewart, Cowboy Stewart, Tinky Stewart, Stanley Stewart and Michael Stewart, all of Amarillo; parents, Lillian and Pete Dobbins and Harold and Sandy Stewart, all of Amarillo, and Jessie Mae Edwards of Midland; and 13 grandchildren. The family will be at 3608 S.E. 29th Ave. Olive L. Carter Olive L. Carter, 71, of Amarillo, died Wednesday, Dec. 17, 1997. Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Paramount Baptist Church with the Rev. Dr. Gil Lain, pastor, and Michael Carter officiating. Burial will be in Llano Cemetery by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2820 Virginia Circle. Mrs. Carter was born in Jonesboro, Ark. She married W.S. Carter in 1943 at Paragould, Ark. She had been a resident of Amarillo for 30 years and was a homemaker. Mrs. Carter was a member of Paramount Baptist Church, where she sang in the choir and taught Sunday school. Survivors include her husband; two daughters, Linda Ussery of Amarillo and Nancy Smith of Arlington, Va.; two sons, Stewart Carter of Amarillo and Larry Carter of Charlottesville, Va.; 13 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Jackie Lee Adkins Jackie Lee Adkins, 59, of Amarillo, died Thursday, Dec. 18, 1997. Graveside services will be at 11:30 a.m. Monday at Panhandle Cemetery with the Rev. Dr. Jim Perkins, pastor of First Baptist Church of Panhandle, officiating. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2820 Virginia Circle. Mr. Adkins was born in Amma, W.Va., and was a graduate of Sissonville, W.Va., High School. He served with the Air Force from 1956 to 1960. Mr. Adkins worked as a warehouse manager in the wholesale plumbing business for many years. He later opened stores and developed a customer base for Cronk Co. He also worked for U.S. Southland Co. as a manager of its Tyler store and as a sales representative for Wyeth Hardware Co. of St. Joseph, Mo. He had been retired at the time of his death. Survivors include his wife, Benmarion Adkins; a son, Bob Adkins of Dallas; a daughter, Sharon Miller of Waxahachie; one stepdaughter, Debbie Dominguez of Amarillo; two stepsons, Larry Stovall of Panhandle and Johnny Stovall of Mesquite; one sister, Aravilla Black of Charleston, W.Va.; three brothers, Don Adkins of Sissonville, W.Va., and Siegal Adkins and Fred Adkins, both of Charleston, W.Va.; six grandchildren; and 11 stepgrandchildren. The family will be at 3401 Tripp Ave. H.R. Robbins Jr. H.R. "Bob" Robbins Jr., 68, of Amarillo, died Friday, Dec. 19, 1997. Services will be 2 p.m. Monday at Polk Street United Methodist Church with the Rev. Dr. Jim E. Garrett and the retired Rev. John Mourer officiating. Burial will be at Llano Cemetery by N.S. Griggs & Sons Funeral Directors, 2615 Paramount Blvd. Mr. Robbins was born in Lubbock. He graduated from Amarillo High School and Texas Tech. He married Johnie Peebles at Slaton in 1952 and has owned Robbins Appraisal Service since 1960. He was was a member and Sunday school teacher for Bridge Builders at St. Stephens United Methodist Church, parttime teacher for the McDavid Class and a member of Home Builders Sunday School Class at Polk Street United Methodist Church. Mr. Robbins was a past band director of the high school in Post and the junior high band in Big Spring. He was a director of the Greater Southwest Music Festival and past president in 1988-89 and 1994-95. He served four terms as president and two years as vice governor for the Amarillo Chapter of the Old Society of Real Estate Appraisers. He was also a member of The Appraisal Institute, American Association of Certified Appraisers, Amarillo Association of Realtors, National Association of Realtors and Texas Association of Realtors. He was past president of the Texas Tech Band and a life member of Kappa Kappa Psi, past member of Amarillo Rotary Club and a member of the Amarillo Club. Survivors include his wife; two sons, Homer L. Robbins of Austin and R. Wesley Robbins of Amarillo; a daughter, M. Suzanne Gerstner of Roswell, N.M.; a sister, Jill Wilson of Arlington; and six grandchildren. The family requests memorials be to TV Ministry of Polk Street United Methodist Church. Oklahoma Burt E. Price TULSA, Okla. - Burt E. Price, 43, a former Guymon, Okla., resident, died Thursday, Dec. 18, 1997. Services will be at 2 p.m. today in First Church of the Nazarene at Guymon with the Rev. Terry Armstrong officiating. Burial will be in Elmhurst Cemetery at Guymon by Bunch-Roberts Funeral Home of Guymon. Leslie W. Gloden Jr. GUYMON, Okla. - Leslie W. Gloden Jr., 76, died Friday, Dec. 19, l997. Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday in the Morningstar United Methodist Church with the Rev. Toxey Miller officiating. Burial will be in Elmhurst Cemetery by the Henson-Novak Funeral Directors of Guymon, Okla. Mr. Gloden was a lifelong resident of Hough Community. The body will be available for viewing from 1 to 8 p.m. Sunday and from 8:30 to 11 a.m. Monday. Area Lula B. McCabe HEREFORD - Lula B. McCabe, 98, died Thursday, Dec. 18, 1997. Services will be at 10 a.m. today in Gililland-Watson Funeral Home Rose Chapel with Tom Bailey, minister of Central Church of Christ, officiating. Graveside services will be at 2:30 p.m. in Panhandle Cemetery at Panhandle. Mrs. McCabe was born in Clarendon and moved to Deaf Smith County, the Dawn community, in 1943 from Conway. She graduated from Miami High School and received her teaching certificate from West Texas Normal College. She taught school for many years and was a homemaker. She married Herbert V. McCabe in 1924 at Miami. He died in 1988. Survivors include two sons, Bill McCabe of Dumas and Jim McCabe of Dawn; a daughter, Ann Carthel of Friona; 13 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren. Deniece Jones PLAINVIEW - Deniece Jones, 29, died Thursday, Dec. 18, 1997. Services will be at 4 p.m. today at First Assembly of God with the Rev. Neil Unwin, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Parklawn Memorial Gardens by Lemons Funeral Home. Ms. Jones was born in Plainview. She had been a resident of Lubbock State School since 1971. Survivors include her parents, James and Virginia Jones of Plainview; a sister, Kimberly Jones of Plainview; and her grandmother, Helen Jones of Kress. The family requests memorials be to Volunteer Services at Lubbock State School, P.O. Box 5396, Lubbock, Texas 79417. James K. Hayhurst DUMAS - James K. Hayhurst, 82, died Friday, Dec. 19, 1997. Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Monday in Lane Memorial Cemetery with the Rev. David White, pastor of First Baptist Church of Etter, officiating. Arrangements are by Morrison Funeral Directors. Mr. Hayhurst was born in Sherman. He married Ardena in 1935 at Hammon, Okla. She preceded him in death in 1989. He was also preceded in death by two daughters, Voncille Samples in 1986 and Joan Lacey in 1992. He lived in Sunray since 1984 and was a Moore county resident since 1946. Survivors include a son, Jim Hayhurst of Dumas, three brothers, Thomas Hayhurst of Freemont, Calif., Albert Hayhurst of Pasadena and Dale Hayhurst of Pauls Valley, Okla.; a sister, Lillie Belle Howe of Phoenix, Ariz.; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. The family will be at 509 Belmont. The body will not be available for viewing. Dorothy Nelms FRIONA - Dorothy Nelms, 86, formerly of Plainview, died Friday, Dec. 19, 1997. Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Lemons Funeral Home Chapel in Plainview Carl King, minister of Garland Street Church of Christ in Plainview, officiating. Burial will be in Plainview Memorial Park in Plainview. Mrs. Nelms was born in Hamilton. She married Joe Nelms in 1964. She had been a resident of Friona for more than two years after moving from Plainview. She was a member of the Garland Street Church of Christ in Plainview. Mrs. Nelms had retired after working as a sales clerk in a clothing store in Plainview for many years. Survivors include a brother, Joe Harding of San Angelo, and a sister, Ruth Houser of Friona. The body will be available for viewing from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. today and from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday in Ellis-Blackwell Funeral Home in Friona and Sunday evening until service time in Lemons Funeral Home. Helen Elizabeth Bailey DUMAS - Helen Elizabeth Bailey, 86, died Friday, Dec. 19, 1997. Graveside services will be at 2:30 p.m. Monday at Northlawn Memorial Gardens Cemetery with the Rev. Dr. Vince Kolb, pastor of First Presbyterian Church, officiating. Arrangements are by Morrison Funeral Directors. Mrs. Bailey was born in Danville, Ill. She married Gordon Bailey in 1937 in Danville. They moved to Dumas in 1948, where she taught for Dumas Elementary School from 1948 until retirement in 1967. She was a member of Texas State Teachers Association and First Presbyterian Church of Dumas. Survivors include her husband; a son, Gordon Bailey Jr. of Littleton, Colo.; a grandson; and a great-grandson. The family will be at 116 Chelsea, Dumas. HAROLD T. BECKHAM PAMPA - Harold T. Beckham, 75, died Thursday, Dec. 18, 1997. Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at First Baptist Church with the Rev. John Glover, associate pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery by Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors. Mr. Beckham was born at Palmer. He had been a resident of Pampa since 1924. He married Lela Pearl Baldwin in 1944 at Pampa. He was an electronic technician specialist for 31 years at Celanese, retiring in 1982. He was a charter member of the Pampa Amateur Radio Club, a member of the First Baptist Church, the Sonshine Club, Everyman's Bible Class, Pampa Fine Arts Association, Friends of the Library and supported White Deer Land Museum. He was a former member of Gray County Child Welfare Board and served in the Navy during World War II. Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Cheri Duggan of Missouri City; a son, Richard Beckham of Houston; four sisters, Herma Ogle, Freddie Bills, and Julie Firestone, all of Amarillo, and Edith Whalen of Albuquerque, N.M.; a brother, Doyle Beckham of Pampa; four grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. The family requests memorials be to First Baptist Church Sonshine Club Scholarship Fund. Mary Elizabeth Pierce CLARENDON - Mary Elizabeth Pierce, 65, died Thursday, Dec. 18, 1997. Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in Robertson Chapel of Memories with the Rev. Bill Hodges, Nazarene minister, officiating. Burial will be in Citizens Cemetery by Robertson Funeral Directors Inc. Mrs. Pierce was born in Lelia Lake and had been a resident of Donley County most of her life. She married Clarence E. Pierce Sr. in 1948 at Clarendon. She worked at Dairy Queen, Mr. Burger and the Medical Center Nursing Home in Clarendon for several years. She was a member of Clarendon Church of the Nazarene. Survivors include her husband; a daughter, Linda Lincoln of Claude; two sons, C.E. Pierce Jr. of Clarendon and Ricky Pierce of Lefors; a sister, Shirley Booth of Clarendon; eight grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren. Rita Elizabeth Shields LELIA LAKE - Rita Elizabeth Shields, 73, died Friday, Dec. 19, 1997. Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday in the Clarendon Church of Christ with Mike Suiter, minister, and Bill Dorsey, deacon at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Clarendon, officiating. Burial will be in Citizens Cemetery by Robertson Funeral Directors Inc. Mrs. Shields was born in New Orleans and was resident of Louisiana before moving to Donley County 32 years ago. She married George Clifton Shields in 1944 at New Orleans. She worked at Gilkey Clinic in Clarendon for nine years. She was a homemaker. Survivors include her husband; two sons, Bruce Shields and Donald Shields, both of Amarillo; a sister, Mary Wilson of New Orleans; a brother, Dominick Rando of New Orleans; five grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
