Services will be at 10 a.m. today in N.S. Griggs & Sons Funeral Directors Pioneer Chapel, 2615 Paramount Blvd., with the Rev. James Rankin of Eastridge Baptist Church officiating. Burial will be in Llano Cemetery. Mrs. Palmer was born in Pauls Valley, Okla. She married James Palmer in 1951 at Clovis, N.M. She had been a homemaker for 46 years. Survivors include her husband; three daughters, Patsy Gale Freeman of Amarillo, Linda Sue Gielen of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Jo Ann Pavey of San Mateo, Calif.; two sons, Ronnie Bert Henry of Amarillo and James H. Palmer of Arlington; two brothers, Walton Humphrey of Amarillo and Bobby Humphrey of Borger; 12 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. The family suggests memorials be to Eastridge Baptist Church or Baptist St. Anthony's Hospice and Life Enrichment Center. Arnold H. Althaus Arnold H. "Eddie Arnold'' Althaus, 91, of 4016 Chico Place, died Saturday, April 17, 1997. Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Blackburn-Shaw Funeral Directors, Martin Road Chapel, 1505 Martin Road, with John Roberts officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Mr. Althaus was born in Nobles County, Minn., and had lived in Amarillo for 46 years. He ran a tire re-grooving business until retiring in 1974. Survivors include a daughter, Ava Dawn Cook of Amarillo; a sister, Phuma Spiss of Tucson; a brother, Elmer Althaus of White Bear Lake, Minn.; special friend, Mae Althaus of Amarillo; 10 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren. The family will be at 4016 Chico Place. Helen A. Prince Helen A. Prince, 76, of Amarillo, died Sunday, April 20, 1997. She was a saleswoman for Children's Shoe Fashions and a member of Paramount Terrace Christian Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Stanley Robert Prince, in 1970. Vivian Lee Storey Jordan Vivian Lee Storey Jordan, 92, of Amarillo, a former Abilene resident, died Friday, April 18, 1997. Memorial services will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday in Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home at Abilene. Arrangements are by Memorial Park Funeral Home, 6969 E. Interstate 40. Mrs. Jordan was born in Grant Town. She moved to Amarillo in 1981 from Abilene. She was a legal secretary. She was preceded in death by two husbands, Henry Hill Storey in 1934 and J.B. Jordan Sr. in 1973. She owned and operated the Corral Grill. She was a Baptist. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1979. Manuel Mendoza Manuel Mendoza, 47, of Amarillo, died Sunday, April 20, 1997. Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. today in Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors Ivy Chapel, 2820 Virginia Circle. Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Wednesday in St. Hyacinth's Catholic Church by the Rev. Pat Carathers, pastor. Burial will be at 1 p.m. in St. Anthony's Cemetery at Hereford. Mr. Mendoza was born in Pecos. He had lived in Amarillo for the past three years. He was a construction worker and a Catholic. Survivors include his mother, Lupe Mendoza of Seguin; two sons, Alex Mendoza of Mineral Wells and Manuel Mendoza of Hereford; two daughters, Jennifer Mendoza of Amarillo and Naomi Mendoza of Hereford; seven brothers, Joel Mendoza of Dalhart, Ovel Mendoza of Amarillo, Frank Mendoza, Mario Mendoza and Vriel Mendoza, all of Seguin, and Quite Mendoza and Roy Mendoza, both of Cameron; two sisters, Adele Herrera and Soccoro Mendoza, both of Seguin; a special friend, Mary Hernandez of Amarillo; and six grandchildren. The family will be at 2427 Redwood and 1315 S. Travis St. Phil Mask Phil Mask, 82, of 5513 Emil, died Sunday, April 20, 1997. Graveside services will be at 3 p.m. today in Memorial Park Cemetery with the Rev. Danny W. Logan of Bell Avenue Baptist Church officiating. Arrangements are by Blackburn-Shaw Funeral Directors, Memorial Chapel, Fifth Avenue and Pierce Street. Mr. Mask graduated from Amarillo High School. He married Billie Stover in 1939 at Clovis, N.M. He served in the South Philippines during World War II with the 24th Division, 21st Regimental Combat Team. He retired from Pioneer Natural Gas in 1979 after 34 years of service. He transferred to Lubbock in 1969 and lived there until two years ago when he moved back to Amarillo. Mr. Mask was the president of the Downtown Lions Club in 1962 and a member of Bell Avenue Baptist Church. Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Phyllis Hoover of Amarillo; a son, Richard Mask of Oklahoma City; a sister, Amma Foster of Amarillo; eight grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Copeland KEYES, Okla. - Lawrence W. Copeland, 69, died Saturday, April 19, 1997. Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in First Baptist Church with Jason Kearney, pastor, and the Rev. Derek Cox officiating. Burial with military graveside honors will be in Willowbar Cemetery by Cimarron Mortuary. Mr. Copeland was born in Bucklin, Kan. He was raised on the family farm near Mullinville, Kan. He attended and graduated from the Mullinville school. After high school he attended business college at Hutchinson, Kan. He started farming and moved to Cimarron County to farm the Copeland homestead. He served his country as a medic in Germany. After serving in the Army he settled on the Copeland homestead. He married Leora Jean Sizemore in 1951 at Bucklin. He was a member of First Baptist Church, the American Legion and the Masonic Lodge. He also was a lifetime member of the American Association of Retired Persons. Survivors include his wife; a son, Glen Copeland of Keyes; two daughters, Melinda Robinson of Boise City and Lanita Miller of Woodward; a brother, Earnest Copeland of Littleton, Colo.; eight grandchildren; and a great-grandchild. Fredda Nell Kaps BORGER - Fredda Nell Kaps, 78, of Denver, a former Borger resident, died Friday, April 18, 1997. Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Trinity Lutheran Church with the Rev. Fred Kelm, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Vesperland Garden at Highland Park Cemetery by Minton/Chatwell Funeral Directors. Mrs. Kaps was born in Celeste. She had lived in Denver for 15 years, moving from Borger. She was a waitress and a member of Trinity Lutheran Church of Borger. She was preceded in death by her husband, Leland Kaps. Survivors include a son, Jess Kaps; a daughter, Myra N. Kaplan; two brothers, Alvin Reeves and Bun Reeves, both of Pampa; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Edna L. Looper PLAINVIEW - Edna L. Looper, 90, died Sunday, April 20, 1997. Services will be at 2 p.m. today in First United Methodist Church Chapel with the Rev. Shane Brue, pastor of Trinity United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Plainview Cemetery by Lemons Funeral Home. Mrs. Looper was born in McClendon County. She moved to Hamilton County as a child and attended school at Carlton. She graduated from John Tarlton Junior College in 1925 and taught school at Hamilton for six years. She married Reagan Looper in 1933 at Canyon. He died in 1949. She moved to Plainview in 1956 and taught school at East Mound for five years. She owned and operated the Rose Shop in Plainview from 1950 to 1975. In 1976 she worked for Arch Keys Floral. She was a member of First United Methodist Church and a charter member of the Business and Professional Women's Club-Women's Forum for 14 years. Survivors include two sisters, Mamie Browning of Athens, Texas, and Dora Mae Kavanaugh of San Juan Capistrano, Calif.; a brother, Denton Smith of Amarillo; three grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; and two step-great-grandchildren. Verna E. Carley TULIA - Verna E. Carley, 84, died Sunday, April 20, 1997. Services will be at 4 p.m. Wednesday in Central Church of Christ with Trey Morgan, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery by Wallace Funeral Home. Mrs. Carley was born in Lamar County and attended school in the Davis community of Lamar County. She then attended Paris Junior College and received her teacher's certificate. She taught school in Doole for two years. She moved to LaVeta, Colo., in 1947 and to Tulia in 1948. She then moved to Vanderbilt in 1957 and was the school tax assessor collector until retiring. She returned to Tulia in 1983. She married her first husband, William Lewis Joy, in 1934 at Lohn. He died in 1986. She married Raymond Carley in 1987 at Tulia. Mrs. Carley was a member of Central Church of Christ. Survivors include her husband; a daughter, Sherry Davis of Blessing; four sons, Redgie Joy of Round Rock, Dwight Joy of Spring, Dale Joy of Dayton and Brent Joy of Tulia; a stepson, Gayne Carley of Huntington Beach, Calif.; two sisters, Exie Bobbitt of Amarillo and Gladys Davis of San Angelo; 12 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. Mrs. Magness was born in Amarillo. She married Don Magness in 1952 at Tucumcari, N.M. She was a member of First Baptist Church. Survivors include her husband; two daughters, Donna Collins of Copper Canyon and Debbie Bell of Canyon; her mother, Mrs. Merle McFarland of Happy; her father, W.E. Conway Sr. of Amarillo; a brother, W.E. Conway Jr. of Tucson, Ariz.; and two grandchildren. The family will receive visitors from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home in Canyon. Arrangements are by Wood-Dunning Funeral Home of Plainview. Mrs. Monk was born in McCurtain County, Okla. She moved to Hart in 1931 from Oklahoma. She moved to Oklahoma City in 1970 and to Spearman in 1995. She married Ollie Monk in 1924 at Lawton, Okla. He died in 1969. She was a homemaker and member and Sunday school teacher at Olivet Baptist Church in Oklahoma City. Survivors include a daughter, Patsy Gean Bevill of Gruver; a son, Leon Monk of Fort Worth; five grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. Burial will be in Memorial Gardens Cemetery at Wellington by Rector Funeral Home, 2800 S. Osage St., in Amarillo. Mrs. Elbert was born in Wellington. She moved to Amarillo one year ago from Wellington. She was a member of First Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold Elbert. Survivors include a daughter, Cathie Robinson of Amarillo; two sons, Worlan Robinson of Amarillo and Rick Robinson of Allison; a sister, Faye Sparlin of Wheeler; a brother, Elmer Feemster of Wellington; 11 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
