Burial was in Washburn Cemetery at Washburn. Mr. Emberton was born in Plainview. He graduated from Panhandle High School in 1976. He worked for IBP inc. in Amarillo before moving to Dallas. He was an electrician for American Trailer Repair of Dallas. He was a member of 4-H. Survivors include two sons, Cody Lee Emberton of Bedford and Michael Shane Emberton of Sanger; his mother, Amanda Jane Emberton of Amarillo; and a brother, Gregory Dean Emberton of Arkansas. The family requests memorials be to a favorite charity. James L. Hine James L. Hine, 72, of Amarillo, died Friday, June 20, 1997. Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday in Schooler-Gordon Bell Avenue Chapel, 5400 Bell St., with the Rev. Danny Logan, pastor of Bell Avenue Baptist Church, officiating. Cremation by Memorial Park Crematory. Mr. Hine was born in Lincolnton, N.C. He earned his bachelor's degree at Hardin Simmons University in Abilene. He earned his master's degree in education at Texas Tech University. He was an Army veteran of World War II, serving in the South Pacific. He served in the Littlefield School District for nine years before becoming the first city manager of Ruidoso, N.M., in 1960. He retired in 1987. He married Marjorie Richards in 1948 at Abilene. He served as director of the New Mexico Municipal League and past president of the New Mexico City Managers Association. He was a 1969 recipient of the New Mexico Distinguished Public Service Award. He was a member of the Lions Club. He was also a Baptist. Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Pamela Hine Bellar of Sudan, and Catherine E. Hine of Albuquerque, N.M.; a brother, George W. Hine of Early; a sister, Marie Hine Herb of Abilene; and two grandchildren. Westside, Littlefield, Texas 79339. Clara Harry Mulkey Clara Harry Mulkey, 90, of West Memphis, Ark., died Thursday, June 19, 1997, in San Angelo. Graveside services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday in Llano Cemetery with Chester O'Brien of First Baptist Church, officiating. Arrangements are by Blackburn-Shaw Funeral Directors, Fifth Avenue and Pierce Street. Mrs. Mulkey was born in Merkel. She moved to Amarillo in 1927 with her husband, Lee Harry. She went to work for Amarillo Independent School District as a cafeteria manager, where she worked for 26 years, retiring in 1970. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1976. She was married to Roy Mulkey for nine months, before he preceded her in death in 1980. She was active in church during her younger years. She was a member of WMU and was primary superintendent for several years. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Amarillo. Survivors include a son, Carlton Harry of West Memphis, Ark.; a sister, Claudie Mearl Thornton of Lubbock; two grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. today at the funeral home. Mary Etta Dowling Mary Etta Dowling, 91, of Amarillo, died Thursday, June 19, 1997. Services will be at 1 p.m. today in Quail Creek Congregation Jehovah's Witnesses with Doug Dickman, a Jehovah's Witnesses elder of Dumas, officiating. She had lived in Dumas from 1937 until 10 years ago, when she moved to Amarillo. She was a member of Jehovah's Witnesses since 1937. She was a homemaker. She was preceded in death by her husband, Henry Bennett Dowling, in 1987. Survivors include five sons, Lee Dowling, Rex Dowling and Ira Dowling, all of Amarillo, Kenneth Dowling of Georgetown, Colo., and Jim Dowling of Springfield, Mo.; two daughters, Otheda Kinnikin of Dallas, and Kathryn Warren of Cassville, Mo.; a sister, Francis Montgomery of Oklahoma City; 25 grandchildren; 48 great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren. The family will be at 108 Ramada Trail. Opal Pitt Vinatieri Opal Pitt Vinatieri, 76, of Amarillo, died Saturday, June 21, 1997. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Monday in Llano Cemetery with the Rev. Roy Wheeler of Paramount Terrace Christian Church, officiating. Georgia St. Mrs. Vinatieri was born in Amarillo. She graduated from Amarillo High School in 1939. She attended Amarillo College. Within weeks of Pearl Harbor, she found employment at Sheppard Field in Wichita Falls, where the original cadre was formed to activate the Amarillo Air Field in 1942. She married Edward F. Vinatieri in 1943 at Denver. He died in 1988. When he returned home from the European Theater of Operation, they moved to Yankton, S.D., and lived there for 28 years. She was a homemaker and did clerical work in the family business. In 1976, they returned to Amarillo, where she worked in the Social Security office from 1977 until 1997. She later became the hearings reporter at Social Security. She was a member of the Amarillo Senior Citizens Bridge Club, Widowed Persons Services and was a member of Paramount Terrace Christian Church. Survivors include two daughters, Caren Vinatieri of Dallas and Barbara Anderson of Amarillo; a son, Robert Vinatieri of Portland, Ore.; a sister, Leona Bell of Amarillo; two brothers, Loyall Pitt of Burnett and Otto L. Romero PORTALES - Ramon A. Romero, 84, died Friday, June 20, 1997. Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. today in St. Helen Catholic Church. Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Monday in St. Helen Catholic Church by the Rev. Anthony Martinez. Burial will be in Portales Cemetery by Wheeler Mortuary of Portales Inc. Mr. Romero was born in San Miguel County and spent his early life there. He married Manuelita Garcia in 1934 at Willard. She died in 1988. After marrying, he moved to Encino and worked for the railroad. He moved to Portales in 1950 and farmed there until 1964. For the next four years, he owned and operated a Phillips 66 service station. He was a member of St. Helen Catholic Church. Survivors include three sons, Paul Romero of Columbus, Ind., Archie Romero of Clovis and Celso Romero of Roswell; two daughters, Mary Villanueva of Deming and Emma Britton of Portales; two sisters, Rosaria Vigil of Santa Cruz and Maggie Trujillo of Espanola; 22 grandchildren; and 40 great-grandchildren. Hazel C. Jones CLAYTON - Hazel C. Jones, 91, died Thursday, June 19, 1997. Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Monday in Clayton Memorial Cemetery with the Rev. Ed Murphy, pastor of Clayton Church of God, officiating. Arrangements are by Hass Funeral Directors. Ms. Jones was born in Yale, Payne County, Okla. She moved to New Mexico with her parents in 1907 and homesteaded south of Clayton in the New Home community. She attended school at New Home and Mansker and was a 1927 graduate of Clayton High School. She also was a graduate of Highland University in Las Vegas. She taught in several Union County schools as well as other schools in New Mexico from 1927 until retiring in 1971. She moved to Clovis and lived there until moving to Clayton in 1990. Ms. Jones was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Clovis. She was preceded in death by a son, Gale Church, in 1990; and a daughter, Wanda Harris, in 1987. Jimmy Pitson, pastor, and the Rev. Laddie Adams of Oklahoma City, officiating. Burial will be at Elmhurst Cemetery by Bunch-Roberts Funeral Home of Guymon. Mrs. Shults was born on the home place near Hardesty. She graduated from the Hardesty High School. She also graduated with a degree in elementary education from Oklahoma Panhandle State University at Goodwell. She was a homemaker and taught school for a short time. She worked for Harrison's and the D&J Clothing Store for several years. She married Mayo Shults in 1943 at Pasadena, Calif. They made their home in Garden City, Kan., and Tonkawa for several years, moving to the Goodwell and Guymon area in 1957. She was a member of the Grace Southern Baptist Church and past member of the Beta Sigma Phi. Survivors include her husband; a daughter, LaRie Hillman of Guymon; a son, Terry Shults of Ripon, Wis.; three sisters, Ethel DeLoach of Lamar, Colo., Lucille Waldrop of Guymon, and Elsie Garrett of Satsuma, Fla.; and three grandchildren. Mr. Gruber was born in Okeene, Okla., moving to Amarillo in his teens, and later to Houston in 1990. He was a graduate of Price College in Amarillo. He served in the Army from 1951 until 1953. He had been married for 43 years. He was a member of St. Cyril of Alexandria Catholic Church. For the last four years, he had been retired after a 40-year career in the tire industry. Survivors include his wife, Patricia; three daughters, Cynthia McGinty and Kristi Gruber, both of Houston, and Teresa Kizer of Waco; three brothers, Gerald of Phoenix, Ariz., Robert of Amarillo; and Wayne of Jonesboro, Ark.; two sisters, Patricia Arnold of Sun City West, Ariz., and Eileen Detten of Amarillo; and two grandchildren. He moved at an early age with his family to a farm near Booker. He worked with his father and uncle in the farming operation until volunteering for service in the Air Force in 1946. After his discharge, he returned to the family farm, where he lived until moving to Booker into 1990. Mr. Niece was a member of First Baptist Church. Survivors include two sisters, Ada Lemcke of Wichita, Kan., and Lottie Celete Beames of Hemet, Calif.; and a brother, Edgar Niece of Huron, S.D. Sidney F. Lands McLEAN - Sidney F. Burial will be in Hillcrest Cemetery by Lamb Funeral Home. Mr. Lands was born in Four Acre, Okla. He moved to McLean from Midkiff in 1957. He then moved to Goldsmith and returned to McLean in 1986. He retired as superintendent at El Paso Natural Gas Co. after 42 years of service. He was a member of First United Methodist Church and McLean Masonic Lodge No. 889. Mr. Lands married Doris Thomas in 1949 at Hobbs, N.M. Survivors include his wife; a son, Butch Lands of San Angelo; a sister, Gloria Belle Pellegrine of Marseilles, Ill.; and two grandsons. Velma Lutie Hearn CLARENDON - Velma Lutie Hearn, 90, formerly of Clarendon, died Thursday, June 19, 1997, in Conroe. Services will be at 2 p.m. today in Martin Baptist Church with the Rev. Bryan Knowles, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Citizens Cemetery by Robertson Funeral Directors Inc. Mrs. Hearn was born in Beaver County, Okla. She lived in Donley County most of her life before moving to Conroe five years ago. She married Charlie Claude Hearn in 1924 at Clarendon. He died in 1991. She also was preceded in death by two sons, Gene Lyle Hearn in 1937 and Duane Hearn in 1992. Mrs. Hearn was a homemaker and a member of Martin Baptist Church. Mr. Moser was born in Wellington. He had been a resident of Dumas since 1949. He was a graduate of Howard Payne University in Brownwood and Western State University in Gunnison, Colo. He taught history for the Dumas Independent School District for 32 years. In the late 1930s and 1940s, he taught school and coached in Follett, Morris, Gruver, Turpin, Okla., and Adams, Okla. He was a member of the Texas State Teacher Association and also a member of the Retired Teacher Association. He was a longstanding member and Sunday school teacher at First Baptist Church. He married Pauline Dennis in 1938 at Follett. Survivors include his wife; two sons, Dennis Moser of Kingwood, and Michael Moser of Houston; a daughter, Esther Bayless of Austin; four grandchildren; and a great-grandchild. She worked with the county attorney for two years and one year in the deputy county clerk's office in Bailey County. She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Panhandle. She was a member of the Esther-Dorcas Circle of the First United Methodist Church in Muleshoe. She married Bob Raef in 1982 at Panhandle. Survivors include her husband; three sons, Jim Jay Howe of Aurora, Colo., Heath Howe of Tucson, Ariz., and Robert Raef Jr. of Amarillo; four daughters, Joy Creech of Minco, Okla., Crystal Howe of Canyon, Aneta Younger of Idalou, and Dana McBee of Amarillo; her mother, Vione McGregor of Panhandle; two brothers, Ben McGregor of Houston, and Tom McGregor of Panhandle; and six grandchildren. George Daniel Magness FARWELL - George Daniel Magness, 70, died Thursday, June 19, 1997. Services will be at 10 a.m. MDT Monday in Steed-Todd Chapel at Clovis, N.M., with Dennis Dillon officiating. Mr. Magness was born in Parmer County. He had been a lifelong resident of Farwell and Parmer County. He operated a barber shop in Farwell for several years and later worked in car sales. He retired from the New Mexico National Guard after 22 years. He was a member of the Farwell Fire Department and had served as chief of the Farwell Fire Department. He married Ellen Faye Watkins. Survivors include his wife; two sons, Skippy Magness of Farwell, and James Magness of Grand Prairie; a daughter, Pamela Robbs of Austin; four brothers, Raymond Magness of Clovis, Leon Magness of Electra, Ray Magness of Hobbs, N.M., and Max Magness of Royalty; two sisters, Wessie White of Clovis, and Carolyn McGrew of Austin; and three grandchildren.
