Rosary will be recited at 6 p.m. Sunday in Blackburn-Shaw Funeral Directors, Memorial Chapel, Fifth Avenue and Pierce Street, by Hector Gallegos, deacon at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday in Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church with the Rev. Michael Colwell of the church officiating. Burial will be in Llano Cemetery. Mr. Baca was born in Anton Chico, N.M., and had lived in Amarillo for 25 years. He married Maria Tenorio in 1974 at Amarillo. He worked in construction. He was a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. Survivors include his wife; two sons, Sammy Baca and Lawrence Baca, both of Amarillo; his parents, Albino and Candida Baca of Anton Chico; four sisters, Teresa Baca and Lorrie Ann Pino, both of Amarillo, Debbie Baca of Anton Chico and Becky Pauline Pino of Las Vegas, N.M.; two brothers, Anthony Leroy Baca and Jose Baca, both of Amarillo; and a grandchild. The family will be at 3708 E. 16th Ave. The body will not be available for viewing. Ruby Kono Ruby Kono, 78, of Amarillo, died Friday, Aug. 22, 1997. Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Monday in Memorial Park Cemetery with the Rev. Pat Brown, associate pastor of Victory Church, officiating. Arrangements are by N.S. Griggs & Sons Funeral Directors, 2615 Paramount Blvd. Mrs. Kono was born in Dawson County, near Lamesa. She had been a resident of Amarillo since 1952. She married Robert A. Kono in 1962 at Amarillo. She was a homemaker and a member of First Baptist Church of Lamesa. Survivors include her husband; two sons, Wayne Browne of Amarillo and Slater Browne Jr. of Scottsdale, Ariz.; a brother, Dewey Davis of Bellflower, Calif.; a sister, Edna Faye Dixon of Green Valley, Ariz.; nine grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and a great-greatgrandchild. Myrtle Ann Whitsett Myrtle Ann Whitsett, 84, of 700 W. 14th Ave., died Friday, Aug. 22, 1997. Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Monday in Llano Cemetery with Dr. Jim Garrett of Polk Street United Methodist Church officiating. Arrangements are by Blackburn-Shaw Funeral Directors, Memorial Chapel, Fifth Avenue and Pierce Street. Mrs. Whitsett was born in Cameron, N.M. She graduated from Bushland High School and attended Amarillo College before going to San Antonio to work for the Work Progress Administration. She married Johnson Whitsett in 1939 at San Antonio. Mrs. Whitsett lived in Dallas for 16 years and was a member of First United Methodist church and served as president of United Methodist Women and the Couples Co-op. In Amarillo, she was a member of Polk Street United Methodist Church, the 50-50 Sunday School class, United Methodist Women and Modern Study Club. Survivors include her husband; a son, Mal Whitsett of Amarillo; a sister, Sadie Mae Pollard of Amarillo; a brother, L.D. Brooks of Austin; and a grandchild. Polk St., Amarillo, Texas 79101. New Mexico John Leocis Harris CLOVIS, N.M. - John Leocis Harris, 42, died Thursday, Aug. 21, 1997. Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Monday in True Victory Church with the Rev. Jonathan Brock officiating. Burial will be in Oddfellows Cemetery at Fresno, Calif. Arrangements are by Muffley Funeral Home. Mr. Harris was born in Pickens, Ark. He graduated in 1972 from Washington Union High School at Easton, Calif. He attended California State University in Fresno before enlisting in the Air Force. He retired this year at the rank of senior master sargent. He was an active member and deacon of True Victory Church at Clovis. In 1990, Mr. Harris was presented with the Society of American Military Engineer Goddard Medal for his contributions to the civil engineering community during his tour of duty at Ramstein Air Base at Germany. Mr. Harris married Mary Maxwell in 1978 at Fresno. Survivors include his wife; two sons, John K. Harris and Jamiah E. Harris, both of Clovis; a daughter, Alicia Dixon of San Francisco; his mother, Bertha Harris of Fresno; five brothers, Floyd Harris, Leroy Harris, Van Harris and Alphonso Starr, all of Fresno, and Willie Harris of Colorado Springs, Colo.; and a sister, Catharine Cross of Fresno. Pauline Price DORA, N.M. - Pauline Price, 75, died Thursday, Aug. 21, 1997. Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday in Dora Church of Christ with Rod Forbes officiating. Burial will be in Causey Cemetery by Wheeler Mortuary of Portales Inc. Mrs. Price was born in Sulphur Springs, Texas, and was raised in east Texas. In the late 1930s, she married William Troy Griffin. In the early 1940s, they moved to Brownfield, Texas. Mr. Griffin died in 1947. She married Bert Price in 1948 at Plainview, Texas. For more than 30 years, they lived on the Davis Ranch at Milnesand. They lived in Dora at the time of Mr. Price's death in 1985. Mrs. Price was a homemaker and longtime member of Dora Church of Christ. Survivors include three sons, Paul Griffin of Conroe, Texas, Ronnie Griffin of Tomball, Texas, and Jimmy Ray Price of Lovelady, Texas; five daughters, Patsy Sinor, Mary Wood and Bertie Loria, all of Conroe, Reba Gooday of Dayton, Texas, and Lynetta Gaines of Roswell; four brothers, C.W. Freeman of Odessa, Texas, Travis Freeman of Cleburne, Texas, Norris Freeman of Throckmorton, Texas, and Junior Freeman of Brownfield, Texas; a sister, Ilene Jones of San Angelo, Texas; 16 grandchildren; and 24 great-grandchildren. Mildred N. Morgan PORTALES, N.M. - Mildred N. Morgan, 91, died Wednesday, Aug. 20, 1997. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. today in Portales Cemetery with the Rev. J.R. "Dick'' Ross officiating. Arrangements are by Wheeler Mortuary of Portales Inc. Mrs. Morgan was born in Elizabethtown, Ky. She graduated from high school at East Vaughn. She continued her studies at Teacher Normal College in Las Vegas, N.M., and graduated with a teaching certificate. She had lived her entire life in New Mexico. In 1949, the family moved to Portales. She lived there until 1994, when she moved to the Senior Citizen Residence at Clovis. She married Asa P. Morgan in 1926. He died in 1973. Survivors include two daughters, Edna Cates of Fallbrook, Calif., and Norene Sheriff of Clovis; a brother, Eugene "Gene'' Straughan of Dallas; a sister, Mary Mathis of Albuquerque; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Elsewhere Edd A. Stallworth WEBSTER, N.Y. - Edd A. Stallworth, 70, died Monday, Aug. 18, 1997. Services were at 10 a.m. Thursday in Anthony Funeral Chapel. Burial was in Webster Union Cemetery. Mr. Stallworth was born in Amarillo. He received his education at Amarillo High School, Wentworth Military Academy and West Texas State College. He worked for Eastman Kodak Co. as a quality control engineer in color print and processing. He retired in 1986 after 35 years of service. Mr. Stallworth was a veteran of World War II and a member of St. John's Lutheran Church. Survivors include his wife of 48 years, Olive; sons, Robert Stallworth of Mumford, and Ronald Stallworth and John Stallworth, both of Rochester; and three grandchildren. The family requests memorials be to the American Heart Association, the American Diabetes Association or the West Webster Volunteer Ambulance Service. Area Dorothy Tipton DUMAS - Dorothy Tipton, 71, died Friday, Aug. 22, 1997. Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Monday in Dumas Cemetery with Art Lynch, minister of First Street Church of Christ, officiating. Arrangements are by Morrison Funeral Directors. Mrs. Tipton was born in Canute, Okla., and had been a longtime resident of Dumas. She retired as a custodian at Green Acres School in Dumas. She was a member of First Street Church of Christ. She married H.C. Tipton in 1977 at Clayton, N.M. Survivors include her husband; a son, Kenneth Weaver of Evanston, Wyo.; three brothers, Owen Morgan of Amarillo, Doyle Morgan of Elk City, Okla., and Bill Morgan of Duke, Okla.; and a sister, Mary Lou Trent of Crystal River, Fla. The family will be at 510 Elm. They request memorials be to Memorial Hospice, 224 E. Second, Dumas, Texas 79029. Avellee West CHILDRESS - Avellee West, 83, died Thursday, Aug. 21, 1997. Services will be at 4 p.m. today in Calvary Baptist Church with the Rev. Kerry Wood, minister of music at First Baptist Church, and the Rev. Johnny Robertson of First Methodist Church officiating. Burial will be in Kirkland Cemetery at Kirkland by Johnson Funeral Home. Mrs. West was born in Range County. She was a nurse's aide and a member of Calvary Baptist Church. She married C.O. West in 1932 at Hollis, Okla. He died in 1972. She also was preceded in death by a daughter, Charlene Schaefer, in 1988. Survivors include two daughters, Peggy McClain of Angel Fire, N.M., and Nelda Rogers of Childress; a son, Larry West of Lubbock; a brother, T.B. Pickrel of Denison; eight grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. Dennis Cheek HEREFORD - Dennis "D.L.'' Cheek, 82, died Friday, Aug. 22, 1997. Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. today in West Park Cemetery with David McClain officiating. Arrangements are by Rix Funeral Directors. Mr. Cheek was born in Smithville, Okla. He had been a longtime farmer. He married Lillian Edna Gardner in 1938 at Montague County. He was preceded in death by an infant son. Survivors include his wife; three sisters, Hazel Mooney of Decatur, Eunice Uberman of Fort Worth and Maxine Drummond of Brownfield. Mary Ellen Bowen PLAINVIEW - Mary Ellen Fourmentin Bowen, 93, died Friday, Aug. 22, 1997. Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday in First Church of the Nazarene with Shane Fouts, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Plainview Memorial Park by Wood-Dunning Funeral Home. Mrs. Bowen was born in Greer County, Okla. She moved to Plainview in 1937 from Wellington. She married James Everett Bowen in 1920 at Wellington. He died in 1986. She also was preceded in death by a son. Mrs. Bowen was an LVN at Plainview Hospital from 1942 to 1965. She was a member of First Church of the Nazarene. Survivors include two daughters, Oleta Rogers of Plainview and Gwinn Farnsworth of San Jose, Calif.; seven grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. Rhoba Stewart Christian STINNETT - Rhoba Stewart Christian, 80, of Houston, a former Stinnett resident, died Friday, Aug. 22, 1997. Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in First Christian Church with the Rev. Billy Holland, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Cemetery by Brown Funeral Directors of Borger. Mrs. Christian was born in Glenpool, Okla., and was a former longtime Stinnett resident. She was a homemaker and a member of First Christian Church of Stinnett. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lester Christian, in 1996. Survivors include two sons, Paul Christian of Houston and Bob Christian of Pearland; a brother, Eldon Stewart of Lakeside, Calif.; a sister, Lee Keller of Tulsa, Okla.; and three grandchildren. The body will be available for viewing Monday at the Brown Funeral Directors Memorial Chapel in Stinnett. Herman Wilson Dye CLAUDE - Herman Wilson Dye, 74, died Thursday, Aug. 21, 1997. Services will be at 2 p.m. today in First Baptist Church with Bill Phillips of Amarillo, the Rev. Larry Crumpton, pastor of Claude First United Methodist Church, and the Rev. Phil Mercado of Amarillo officiating. Burial will be in Claude Cemetery by Robertson Funeral Directors Inc. of Clarendon. Mr. Dye was born in Claude. He was a resident of Amarillo from 1952 to 1959. He lived in Oklahoma for more than 14 years before returning to Claude seven years ago. He married Geraldine "Jerry'' Marie Griffin in 1942 at Amarillo. Mr. Dye worked as a machinist for the government for 26 years. He then was a strip mining supervisor for Utah International for 14 years before retiring in 1987. He was ordained as a deacon at Claude First Baptist Church in 1957. He was a longtime member and past noble grand of the Farmington, N.M., Oddfellows. He was a Navy veteran of World War II. Survivors include his wife; four sons, Darwin Dwight Dye and Charles Lynn Dye, both of Farmington, Presley Dye of Keyes, Okla., and Harold Wilson Dye of Bloomfield, N.M.; a sister, Marie Cope of Claude; two brothers, Roy L. Dye Jr. of Houston and Howard Dye of Amarillo; nine grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.
