Memorial services will be at 4 p.m. today in Sequim Valley Airport. Arrangements are by Sequim Valley Chapel. Mr. Sallee was born in Amarillo. He was a 1949 graduate of Amarillo High School. He attended the University of Maryland for three years. He later served in the Air Force and Navy as a fighter pilot. He married Winnie Leach in 1957 at Amarillo. Mr. Sallee moved with his family to California before settling in Sequim in 1972. Mr. Sallee had been a pilot for 43 years and worked for Braniff Airlines for 30 years. He was the president and developer of Sequim Valley Airport. He was preceded in death by a son, Charles Sallee. Survivors include his wife; three sons, Andrew William Sallee and Michael Sallee, both of Sequim, and Joe Sallee of Colorado Springs, Colo.; his mother, Ida Mae Sallee of Sequim; a sister, Jimmie Mae Field of San Jose, Calif.; and three grandchildren. Thelma Moore Patrick GRAY, Tenn. - Thelma Moore Patrick, 81, of Johnson City, died Sunday, Sept. 21, 1997. A private memorial service for the family will be Wednesday. Arrangements are by Snyder's Funeral Home. Mrs. Patrick was born in Lubbock, Texas, and had lived in the Johnson City area for 30 years. She retired from St. Mary's School cafeteria. She was preceded in death by her husband, Roy Thomas Patrick; and two sons, Pat Patrick and Ronnie Patrick. Survivors include a son, Benny Roy Patrick of Knoxville; four sisters, Ollie Mae Reece, Sally Carroll and Emma Huffine, all of Amarillo, and Flora Lou Johnson of Albuquerque, N.M.; and four grandchildren. Visitation will be at 8 p.m. today at the home of Karen Patrick Stewart, 2605 Austin Villa Blvd., Johnson City, Tenn. The family requests memorials in lieu of flowers to the American Lung Association. Oklahoma Donald D. Bronniman WOODWARD, Okla. - Donald D. Bronniman, 59, died Sunday, Sept. 21, 1997. Graveside services will be at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday in Rock Church Cemetery, north of Woodward, with Melvin Rittenhouse officiating. Arrangements are by Billings Funeral Home. Mr. Bronniman attended school in Woodward and graduated from high school in 1955. He served for several years in the Air Force. He attended Panhandle A&M at Goodwell, graduating in 1970 with a bachelor of science degree in business administration. He began working at Western State Hospital as an electrician. Later, he worked as a carpenter and built the Western Farmers Plant at Mooreland. He returned to Western State Hospital and worked in the maintenance department. He resigned in the 1980s. Survivors include a sister, Betty Thomas of Claude, Texas. Paul Bond BARTLESVILLE, Okla. - Paul Bond, 74, died Saturday, Sept. 21, 1997. Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in First Church of the Nazarene with the Rev. Toby Land officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery by Arnold Moore Funeral Service. Mr. Bond was born in Gordonville, Grayson County, Texas. He began his elementary education in Whitesboro, Texas, and continued his schooling in Pampa, Texas, and Perryton, Texas. He graduated from McLean, Texas, High School in 1941. He attended Abilene Christian College for two years. He was inducted in the Army in 1945 and was honorably discharged in 1946 as a second lieutenant. He continued his service as a member of the Army Reserves until 1952, when he retired. Mr. Bond returned to Abilene Christian College and graduated with a bachelor of science degree in chemistry in 1947. In the spring of 1947, he entered into a contract as a pitcher for the Brooklyn Dodgers baseball team. In September 1947, he joined the Phillips Petroleum Co. at the Borger, Texas, refinery. He was an analytical chemist. Mr. Bond married Charlie Ruth Risley in 1948 at Pampa. In 1963, Mr. Bond was transferred to the Bartlesville offices and had been a Bartlesville resident since. He retired in 1985 after 38 years of service. Survivors include his wife; two brothers, Joe Aley Bond of Monte Vista, Colo., and Mendel Earl "John'' Bond of Shamrock, Texas; and a sister, Ruth Land of Memphis, Texas. Mr. Bond was of the Nazarene faith. He was a member of the Hillcrest Country Club. The body will be available for viewing in the Drawing Room of the funeral home. The family requests memorials be to a cancer charity. Maxine Sargent BALKO, Okla. - Maxine Sargent, 69, died Saturday, Sept. 20, 1997. Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Perryton, Texas, with the Rev. Gary Caulkins and the Rev. Mark Wescoatt officiating. Burial will be in Gray Cemetery by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Home in Perryton. Mrs. Sargent had lived in Balko since 1946, moving from Burkburnett, Texas, where she graduated from high school. She was a telephone operator. She also worked at Big Top Cafe in Balko. She married Carl Charles Sargent in 1947 at Perryton. He died in 1996. Mrs. Sargent was a homemaker and a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Perryton and the Gray Home Demonstration Club. She also was a member of the Balko Booster Club and was named Member of the Year in 1988. She served as vice president of the Aid and Assistance for Lutherans. Survivors include three daughters, Janice Osborne of Blanchard, Pamela James of Covington and Karen Payne of Mara Caibo, Venezuela; a son, Harley Sargent of Balko; two sisters, Lavonia McDaniel of Grand Saline, Texas, and Evelyn Hatcher of Langley; and nine grandchildren. The family requests memorials be to the Alzheimer's Association, the Ochiltree Senior Citizens or the Balko Education Fund. Howard Ralph Connally GUYMON, Okla. - Howard Ralph Connally, 79, died Monday, Sept. 22, 1997. Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Victory Memorial United Methodist Church with the Rev. Mike Chaffin, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Elmhurst Cemetery by Henson-Novak Funeral Directors. Mr. Connally was born in Brownsboro, Ala. His family moved to Beckham County when he was young. He graduated from Highway High School near Carter and later from Oklahoma State University with a bachelor's degree in animal husbandry. He did post-graduate work at Iowa State University. He was an Army Air Corps veteran of World War II. He was injured while undergoing pilot training. After the war, Mr. Connally was assistant county agent for Canadian County and then was county agent for Kingfisher County. He later did animal feed research at Superior Farms west of Oklahoma City. He then managed grain elevators in Union City. Mr. Connally married Leona "Lee'' M. Dauner in 1949 at Hennessey. In 1962, they moved from Union City to Guymon, where Mr. Connally was manager of Knutson Grain Elevators for several years. He later became affiliated as a grain buyer with Texas County Feed Yards until retiring in 1992. Mrs. Connally died in 1987. Mr. Connally was a member of Victory Memorial United Methodist Church and was active in the Methodist Men's group and served as president. He was a member of Guymon Lodge AF&AM No. 335, the Scottish Rite of Freemasonry, the India Temple of Oklahoma City and the Panhandle Shrine Club. He also was a regular member of the No Man's Land Senior Citizens group. Survivors include a son, Dan Connally of Oklahoma City; a sister, Mary Jean Johnson of Amarillo; three brothers, Burton Connally of Sayre, H.G. "Bud'' Connally Jr. of Amarillo and Charles Connally of Nashville, Tenn.; and a special friends, Esther Holzrichter of Guymon. Friends may call at the funeral home from noon to 9 p.m. today. New Mexico Kathy Cote CLOVIS, N.M. - Katherine E. "Kathy'' Cote, 72, died Monday, Sept. 22, 1997. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Mission Garden of Memories with Jerry Kendall officiating. Arrangements are by Muffley Funeral Home. Mrs. Cote was born in Decatur, Texas. She moved to Clovis in the early 1940s. She married Roland Cote in 1944 at Portales. He died in 1974. She worked at Pete's Curio Shop for many years. She then owned an invisible reweaving business before retiring. She was a longtime member of 16th and Pile Church of Christ. Survivors include two brothers, Woody Goforth and Joe Goforth, both of Texico; six sisters, Rose Jones, Mary Jones and Margaret Goforth, all of Texico, and Pollie Duncan, Ollie Hannah and Lou Reese, all of Amarillo. Ruby Aragon CLOVIS, N.M. - Rebecca "Ruby'' Aragon, 68, died Monday, Sept. 22, 1997. Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. today in Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Community. Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday in Our Lady of Guadalupe by the Rev. Tobin Hitt. Burial will be in Mission Garden of Memories by Muffley Funeral Home. Mrs. Aragon was born in Allan, Texas. She was a cook at Guadalajara Restaurant. She was a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Community. Survivors include six sons, Joe Garcia, Erlindo Garcia, Moises Garcia and David Garcia, all of Clovis, Jesse Garcia of Albuquerque and Billy Garcia of Long Beach, Calif.; a daughter, Adela Garcia-Goodman of Las Vegas, Nev.; four brothers, Zenon Aragon of Kansas, and Albino Aragon, Modesto Aragon and Joe Aragon, all of Clovis; six sisters, Lucy Nelson, Cornelia Gonzales and Rosita Romero, all of Clovis, Cipriana Willis of Wichita Falls, Texas, and Nora Zarbaugh and Terri Anaya, both of San Antonio, Texas; nine grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. James Keith Lyon PORTALES, N.M. - James Keith Lyon, 76, a former Portales resident, died Monday, Sept. 22, 1997, in Lubbock, Texas. Memorial services will be at a later date. Arrangements are by Wheeler Mortuary of Portales Inc. Mr. Lyon was born in Casper, Wyo. He graduated from Natrona County High School in 1939. He served in the Army during World War II. He earned a bachelor of arts degree from Washburn University in Topeka, Kan., in 1947; a master of divinity from McCormick Theological Seminary in Chicago in 1950; and a master of public administration from the University of Nebraska in Omaha in 1973. Mr. Lyon served as a Presbyterian minister in Montana, Iowa and Nebraska. He was director of the North Central Flint Hills Area Agency on Aging in Manhattan, Kan., and director of the Nutrition Program for the Elderly in Omaha. He also was director of the Paxton Manor Retirement Facility in Omaha. Mr. Lyon moved to Portales in 1985 with his wife, Dr. Betty Clayton Lyon. While in Portales, he helped found the Broad Horizons Education Center. In 1995, a set of apartments for single mothers attending Broad Horizons School was named the James K. Lyon Apartments in honor of Mr. Lyon. He served on the University Symphony League Board and the Portales Main Street Committee. He was past president of the Eastern Plains Council of Governments and a member of the Portales Rotary Club and the Portales Gem and Mineral Club. He and his wife recently had moved to Lubbock, where they intended to spend their retirement years. Survivors include his wife; his children, Richard Lyon of Westminster, Calif., Jeanie Scheffler of Blair, Neb., Jeremy Lyon and Rebecca Makineh, both of Nashville, Tenn., and Jane Hart of Richardson, Texas; a brother, Edwin Richard Lyon of Torrington, Wyo.; and 12 grandchildren. Area Ott Shewmaker PAMPA - Ott Shewmaker, 87, died Sunday, Sept. 21, 1997. Cremation was by Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors. Memorial services will be at a later date. Mr. Shewmaker was born in Paragould, Ark. He graduated from Harding Academy in 1928 and Harding College at Morrilton, Ark., in 1933. He moved to Pampa in 1934. Mr. Shewmaker married Lenice Chaffin in 1937 at Pampa. He taught in the Pampa Independent School District for six years. In 1941, he entered the insurance and real estate business, where he remained until retiring in 1995. He was a member of the Church of Christ for more than 70 years and had been a member of the Mary Ellen & Harvester Church of Christ since 1952. Survivors include his wife; two sons, John Shewmaker of Rowlett and Jim Shewmaker of Keller; two daughters, Martha Hunter of Roanoke, Va., and Mary Wilburn of Rowlett; a brother, A.D. Sarah Frances Colgrove WHITE DEER - Sarah Frances Colgrove, 101, died Monday, Sept. 22, 1997. Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday in White Deer First Baptist Church with the Rev. Vernon O'Kelly, Methodist district superintendent of Pampa, and the Rev. Jim Perkins, pastor of First Baptist Church of Panhandle, officiating. Burial will be in White Deer Cemetery by Minton / Chatwell Funeral Directors of Panhandle. Mrs. Colgrove was born in Henderson. She had been a White Deer resident since 1933, moving from Forney. She was a homemaker and a member of White Deer First Baptist Church. She married Edward L. "Luss'' Colgrove in 1915 at Forney. He died in 1970. She also was preceded in death by two daughters, Hazel Edwards and Dorothy Jordan. Mrs. Colgrove was a member of the TEL Sunday School class and the Senior Citizens of White Deer. Survivors include a daughter, Lois Vance of Panhandle; seven grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and nine greatgreat-grandchildren. John Peyton White DUMAS - John Peyton White, 80, died Sunday, Sept. 21, 1997. A committal service will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday in Dumas Cemetery. Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Hunt Memorial United Methodist Church with the Rev. Stephen Gaines, pastor, officiating. Arrangements are by Morrison Funeral Directors. Mr. White was born in Fort Cradburn. He moved to Amarillo in 1936 and worked with his parents at White's Boot Shop. He joined the Texas National Guard in 1940 and served in the infantry from 1940 to 1945. He was honorably discharged as a sergeant at Fort Lewis, Wash. He married Doris F. Brasel in 1944. She died in 1972. Mr. White moved to Dumas in 1948 and worked for Natural Gas Pipeline at the Texhoma Station for two years. In 1950, he began working for Phillips Petroleum at the Cactus Plant. He retired in 1973. He was a member of the local OCAW and served on the arbitration committee. He also served as a trustee of the Cactus Credit Union. He had been a member of the National Rifle Association since 1946. He also was a member of the American Legion Post No. 0024. He was active in the Boy Scouts until 1983 and had helped organize the first Scout troop at First Christian Church. In 1982, he was awarded the Silver Beaver Award, which is the highest honor given to a Scouting volunteer. Mr. White was a Christian and attended Hunt Memorial United Methodist Church. Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth; and a sister, Gladys Ballard of Saints Marie, Idaho. The family will be at 517 Pecan. Schulte, 51, died Sunday, Sept. 21, 1997. A vigil service will be at 7 p.m. today in Foskey-Lilley-McGill Funeral Home Chapel. Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday in Immaculate Conception Catholic Church by the Rev. Guillermo Morales, pastor; the Rev. Jerry Stein, pastor of Holy Family Church in Nazareth; John Nino, deacon; and the Rev. Randy Gressett, youth minister at First Baptist Church. Burial will be in Holy Family Cemetery in Nazareth. Mr. Schulte was born in Dimmitt and had been a Castro County resident all of his life. He married Beth Pohlmeier in 1969 at Nazareth. He was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. He had worked in the maintenance department at the Dimmitt Cerestar Plant for the past 26 years. Darnell of Amarillo; three daughters, Patricia Clay of Ackerly, Karen Speer of Houston and Linda Van Wagner of O'Fallon, Ill.; four sisters, Pauline Holland, Maxine Gaines and Grace Futch, all of Pampa, and Juanita Smith of Albuquerque, N.M.; a brother, Joe Garner of Mustang, Okla.; nine grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. John P. McKinley SUNRAY - John P. McKinley, 52, died Sunday, Sept. 21, 1997. Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in the Church of Christ with Jim York, minister, officiating. Burial will be in Lane Memorial Cemetery by Morrison Funeral Directors of Dumas. Mr. McKinley was born in Piketon, Ohio, and had been a Sunray resident for 25 years. He served in the Army National Guard for six years. He was employed as a meter technician for Midgard for 28 years. Mr. McKinley served as a deacon and elder at the Church of Christ for many years. He was a former Sunray school board member and a former Scoutmaster. He also served on the Moore County Appraisal District Board and was a longtime volunteer for the Sunray Fire and Ambulance Service. He was a mentor for the Dalhart Prison Ministry. Mr. McKinley married Pat Zedlitz in 1968 at Virginia. Survivors include his wife; two sons, John Paul McKinley Jr. of Lubbock and Steve McKinley of Amarillo; his parents, Harold and Helen McKinley of Beaver Creek, Ohio; a brother, Walt McKinley of Fairborn, Ohio; a sister, Phyllis Ann Kerr of Beaver Creek; and a grandson. Jim Peabody, pastor of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church in Pleasant Hill, N.M., officiating. Burial will be in Friona Cemetery by Ellis-Blackwell Funeral Home of Friona. Mrs. Owens was born in Seymour. She married Jim Owens in 1934 at Clovis, N.M. He died in 1990. She was a member of Bovina First Baptist Church and kept the nursery for many years. She also was a member of the Bovina Senior Citizens and the Bovina Thrifty Club. Mrs. Owens had been a resident of Farwell for the past two years, moving from Bovina, where she had lived since 1934. Survivors include a son, Don Owens of Seminole; a daughter, Bertha L. Kelley of Texico, N.M.; seven grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren. Marvin Holt Bownds MEMPHIS - Marvin Holt Bownds, 46, died Sunday, Sept. 21, 1997. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday in First United Methodist Church with T.J. Pittman, elder at Wellington Primitive Baptist Church, and Tom Posey, retired minister, officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery by Adams Funeral Home of Wellington. Mr. Bownds was born in Memphis. He lived in Amarillo from 1959 to 1987, graduating from Tascosa High School in 1969. He was an auto mechanic in Amarillo. He returned to Memphis in 1987 and farmed. He was a Methodist. Survivors include his parents, Jimmie and Marion Bownds of Memphis; a daughter, Mary Beth Bownds of Amarillo; a sister, Jami Shooter of Houston; and grandmother, Mary E. Long of Memphis. The family requests memorials be to a favorite charity. Roxy Brim WELLINGTON - Roxy Brim, 87, died Monday, Sept. 22, 1997. Mrs. Brim was born in Canton, Okla. She married John Brim in 1930 at Hollis, Okla. They lived in the Loco and Arlie area of Childress County from 1935 to 1945, when they moved to their farm in the Pleasant Point community of Collingsworth County. She was a member of First Baptist Church and a former Sunday school teacher. She also was active with the Keenagers. Mr. Brim died in 1991. Mrs. Brim also was preceded in death by a daughter, Linda Mae Brim, in 1949. Survivors include a son, Burl Brim of Wellington; four sisters, Lillie Zelieff and Bessie Elmore, both of Portland, Ore., and Ruby DeLuche and Genevive Uzell, both of Roswell, N.M.; six grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren. Addie M. Hackworth Addie M. Hackworth, 74, of Amarillo, died Saturday, Sept. 20, 1997. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Llano Cemetery with the Rev. L.V. Mays officiating. She worked as a custodian for the Amarillo Independent School District. Survivors include her husband, James L. Letha Bragg Langdon Letha "Leta'' Bragg Langdon, 82, of Amarillo, died Friday, Sept. 19, 1997. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Llano Cemetery with Dr. Marcus Adair of Faith Bible Center in Canyon officiating. Arrangements are by Blackburn-Shaw Funeral Directors, Memorial Chapel, Fifth Avenue and Pierce Street. Mrs. Langdon was born in Richland, N.M. She was an Amarillo resident before moving to Hartley. She returned to Amarillo in 1952. She was a homemaker. She married Weldon Powers in 1931 at Portales, N.M. He died in 1950. She also was preceded in death by a son, Gene Powers, in 1996. Survivors include a son, Vernon Powers of West Columbia, S.C.; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Vivian Smith Vivian Smith, 62, of 4861 Slope, died Monday, Sept. 22, 1997. Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in First Assembly of God with the Rev. Stan Fortenberry of the church officiating. Burial will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery by Schooler-Gordon Funeral Directors, 5400 Bell St. Mrs. Smith was born in Chicago and had lived in Amarillo all of her life. She married Jack Smith in 1981 at Amarillo. She was a retired nurse and a volunteer "Pink Lady'' at St. Anthony's Hospital. She was a member of First Assembly of God. Survivors include her husband; three daughters, Debbie Shelton and Sharon Towler, both of Amarillo, and Janice Pavlik of Fort Worth; two stepdaughters, Jackie Parker of Amarillo and Tami Roberts of El Reno, Okla.; a brother, A.J. Smith of Pottsboro; five sisters, Carolyn Ogles of Burleson, Inga Lacy of Arlington, Petiny Stevens and Alice Strain, both of Pottsboro, and Muriel Goldsmith of Amarillo; four grandchildren; and six stepgrandchildren. The family will be at 4861 Slope. Henrietta Winnie May Armstrong Henrietta Winnie May Armstrong, 95, a former Amarillo resident, died Monday, Sept. 22, 1997, in Prescott, Ark. Graveside services will be at 2:30 p.m. Friday in Llano Cemetery in Amarillo with the Rev. Robert Fields of Southeast Baptist Church officiating. Local arrangements are by N.S. Griggs & Sons Funeral Directors, 2615 Paramount Blvd. Mrs. Armstrong married Arthur Glenn Armstrong in 1922. He died in 1980. Survivors include four nieces and five nephews. Margaret Carver Margaret Carver, 72, of Amarillo, died Monday, Sept. 22, 1997. Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Memorial Park Funeral Home Chapel of Memories, 6969 E. Interstate 40, with the Rev. J. Alan Ford of Southwest Baptist Church officiating. Burial will be in the Garden Court of Flowers in Memorial Park Cemetery. Mrs. Carver was born in Greenville. She married L.H. Carver in 1942 at Canyon. He died in 1993. Mrs. Carver was a homemaker and a member of Southwest Baptist Church. Survivors include a son, Randy James Carver of Amarillo; two daughters, Carol Lamb and Thresha Collins, both of Amarillo; a brother, Weldon Lemons of Amarillo; two sisters, Cathy Lusby of Canyon and Wanda Murphy of Amarillo; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
