White SUMMERFIELD - Jack W. White, 72, died Tuesday, April 22, 1997. Services will be at 2 p.m. today in Summerfield Baptist Church with the Rev. Ellis Parson officiating. Burial will be in West Park Cemetery at Hereford by Rix Funeral Directors of Hereford. Mr. White was born in Maud, Okla., and had been a resident of Summerfield for the past 39 years. He had farmed most of his life. He was a member of the Odd Fellows and the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He served in the European Theater during World War II and received a Purple Heart. He was a member of Summerfield Baptist Church. Survivors include his wife, Dixie; two daughters, Beverly King of Amarillo and Debbie White of Summerfield; two sons, Bobby White of Summerfield and J.W. White of Dalhart; a sister, Lois Austin of Tucson, Ariz.; a brother, Gene White of Sebring, Fla.; eight grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. The family suggests memorials be to a favorite charity. Frances O. DePew SHAMROCK - Frances O. DePew, 94, of Torrance, Calif., a former Shamrock resident, died Monday, April 21, 1997. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Friday in Shamrock Cemetery with the Rev. Ken Cole, pastor of First United Methodist Church, officiating. Arrangements are by Wright Funeral Directors. Mrs. DePew lived in Shamrock from 1938 to 1992. She then moved to Torrance to be with her daughter. Mrs. DePew was a practical nurse for Dr. Blackketter in Shamrock and a longtime member of First United Methodist Church of Shamrock. She also was a member and a past worthy matron of the Order of the Eastern Star. She was preceded in death by her husband, Leonard Earl DePew, in 1954. Survivors include a daughter, Wanda Reynolds of Redondo Beach, Calif.; and two grandsons. Katy M. Osborn FRIONA - Katy M. Osborn, 96, died Tuesday, April 22, 1997. Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Friday in First Baptist Church with the Rev. Russell Pogue and the Rev. Don Boren officiating. Burial will be in Friona Cemetery by Ellis-Blackwell Funeral Home. Mrs. Osborn was born in Burnet County. She attended Meridian Junior College and was a 1919 graduate of the University of Texas at Austin. She taught school in the Valley for several years and also in Canyon and Friona. She retired when she married Claude Osborn in 1930 at Friona. She taught school again in Friona during World War II. Mrs. Osborn was a member of First Baptist Church and taught Sunday school for many years. She was a member of the Friends of the Library and was the first president of the Parmer County Community Hospital Auxiliary. She also was a past president of the Federated Women's Club; during her tenure the club building was built. She was president of the Friona PTA for many years and a lifetime member of the Texas PTA. She was a charter member and had remained a contributing member of the Texas Panhandle Heritage Foundation. Mrs. Osborn was named Friona's Woman of the Year in 1960. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1986. Survivors include a son, McFarland C. Osborn of Friona; a brother, Robert H. McFarland of Tucumcari, N.M.; three sisters, Martha Clements and Geraldine Taylor, both of Friona, and Charline Jones of Ruidoso, N.M.; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. The family requests memorials be to the Friona Friends of the Library or a favorite charity. Sylvan Hoover BOOKER - Sylvan Hoover, 69, died Wednesday, April 23, 1997. Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Friday in Booker Friends Church with the Rev. Bill Sparks and the Rev. John Beck officiating. Arrangements are by Good Samaritan Funeral Service. Mr. Hoover was born in Bledsoe and grew up in Beaver County. He attended school at Booker. He married Oneta Ruth Simpson in 1947 at Perryton. They made their home in the Booker area and were engaged in farming and ranching as well as the dairy business. In 1962 he started custom harvesting with his four sons. He continued harvesting from southern Oklahoma to the Dakotas for nearly 30 years. Survivors include his wife; four sons, Rex Hoover of Booker, Kerry Hoover of Follett, Ronnie Hoover of Dallas and Mitch Hoover of Darrouzett; a sister, Dovie Cochran of Booker; 10 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. W.C. Henry Jr. MORTON - W.C. "Dub'' Henry Jr., 80, died Wednesday, April 23, 1997. Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday in First Baptist Church with the Rev. Danny Jackson, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Ralls Cemetery at Ralls by Ellis Funeral Home. Mr. Henry was born in Hillsboro. He married Clydene Smith in 1937 at Ralls. He moved to the Morton community in 1957 from Ralls. He was a member and deacon of First Baptist Church of Morton. He was a director of the Federal Land Bank of Levelland and the Star Route Gin Co. He helped clear the campgrounds to build Plains Baptist Assembly in 1947. Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Dwana Satterwhite of Ranger; three sisters, Gladys Howard of Lubbock, Zoenell Myers of Fritch and Maxine Thornton of Houston; and two grandchildren. Madelyn Bennett Metcalf PANHANDLE - Madelyn Bennett Metcalf, 95, died Tuesday, April 22, 1997. Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday in Panhandle First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Norman Patton, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Panhandle Cemetery by Minton / Chatwell Funeral Directors. Mrs. Metcalf was born in Panhandle to a Carson County pioneer family. She had been a lifetime Carson County resident. She was a homemaker and a member of First United Methodist Church, the Order of the Eastern Star, the Liberty Community Club, the Erudite Fine Arts Club and the 55 Plus Club. She taught for six years in rural schools in King, Tony Ridge and Liberty, all in Carson County, and Spring Creek in Hutchinson County. She married Frank Metcalf in 1929 at Amarillo. He died in 1991. She also was preceded in death by a son, Floyd Bennett Metcalf, in 1932. Survivors include two daughters, Frances Sinclair and Doris Gabel, both of Panhandle; a sister, Allene Rogers of Pampa; seven grandchildren; four stepgrandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and seven stepgreat-grandchildren. Mr. Kenney was born in Hansford County and had been a lifetime resident of the Spearman area. He married Deanna Goodrich in 1957 at Stratford. He attended Panhandle A&M University and was an all-conference football player and a four-year letterman. He was a farmer and a rancher. He was a member of First Christian Church, the Odd Fellows and the American Quarter Horse Association. Survivors include his wife; two sons, Jimmy Kenney of Beaver, Okla., and Johnny Kenney of Pampa; a daughter, Melanie Trimble of Canyon; a sister, Kathleen Pulliam of Abilene; and six grandchildren. Mrs. Weiss was born in Blue Grove and had been a longtime resident of Farwell. She lived in Tulia for 21 years and had farmed in the Tulia and Farwell areas. She was a beautician. She married Otto Weiss in 1941 at Waurika, Okla. She was preceded in death by a son, Otto Leroy Weiss, in 1957. Survivors include her husband; a daughter, Debbie Willis of Amarillo; two sons, Charles Weiss of Amarillo and Carl Weiss of Odessa; two sisters, Zelma McDonald of Bowie and Rozelle Sanford of Pampa; six grandchildren; and 10 greatgrandchildren. Belva Abbott Blevins QUAIL - Belva Abbott Blevins, 68, died Tuesday, April 22, 1997. Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday in First Baptist Church of Wellington with the Rev. She attended school at McLean and graduated from Mobeetie High School. She married Marvin Blevins in 1974 at Amarillo. She was a teacher's aide at Samnorwood and Lela for several years. Graveside services will be at 3:30 p.m. in Panhandle Cemetery at Panhandle. Mrs. Cummings was born in Prentiss County, Miss. She moved to Groom in 1962 from Pantex Village. She married Aaron Cummings in 1934 at Dell, Ark. She worked at Groom Memorial Hospital, Lucky 13 and Golden Spread Grill. She also owned and operated A&A Upholstery and Fix It Shop with her husband until 1977. She was a member of Groom Church of Christ. Survivors include three daughters, Rosa Riggs of Amarillo, Anita Baker of Abilene and Helen Bentley of McKinney; a son, James Cummings of Groom; three sisters, Eula Choate of Panhandle, Corean Thomas of Amarillo and Allie Holder of Winston-Salem, N.C.; 11 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren. Weldon Cleveland WELLINGTON - Weldon Cleveland, 77, died Wednesday, April 23, 1997. Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in First Baptist Church with the Rev. Johnny Tims, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Gardens Cemetery by Adams Funeral Home. Mr. Cleveland was born in Rockwood. He married Modell Horton in 1940 at Coleman. She died in 1992. He was the former owner of a paint store and was a painting contractor. He retired in 1985. He served in the Army Air Corps during World War II and served in the National Guard as a first sergeant for 12 years. He was a former member of the Civil Air Patrol. He was a member of the Wellington Country Club. Survivors include a son, Weldon D. Cleveland of Arlington; a brother, Edward Cleveland of Belton; a sister, Faye Bedell of Weatherford; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Memorial services were at 5 p.m. Wednesday in Colonial Funeral Home Chapel, 1010 W. Ninth Ave. Mrs. Islas was born in Laredo. She was a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. She was secretary for La Voz Hispana Newspaper and did public relations work for Images Night Club. She also worked for Westgate, Westcliff and Bivins nursing homes and for Good Health Provider. Ted Gibson officiating. Arrangements are by Strode Funeral Home of Stillwater, Okla. Mrs. Bennington was born in Eureka, Kan., and raised in Tryon. She moved to Amarillo in 1983. She was a homemaker, a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church and a lifetime member of the Order of Eastern Star. She married John Holley Bennington in 1917. He died in 1972. She married Edward Butler in 1968 at Mexico. Survivors include her husband; a daughter, Kay Cruse of Amarillo; and a grandson. Mary Frances Paul Mary Frances Paul, 92, of Amarillo, died Tuesday, April 22, 1997. Arrangements are by Schooler Funeral Home Inc., 4100 S. Georgia St. Mrs. Paul was born in La Monte, Mo., and moved to Amarillo in 1942. She married Robert A. Paul in 1943. He died in 1970. She completed her bachelor of science degree and received her teacher's certificate from Warrensburg College in Missouri. She did additional studies at San Diego State College, the University of Utah and the University of Kansas City. Mrs. Paul began her teaching career at Mayview, Mo., teaching first and second grades for two years. From there she joined the Kansas City Public School System and taught there for 10 years. After moving to Amarillo in 1942 she taught fourth and fifth grades at McKinley School for 10 years and then taught with the Wolflin special education program for 10 years. During her professional career she was active in many professional and civic organizations. Survivors include a stepdaughter, Frances Slagle of Keller; and two grandchildren. Burial will be in Llano Cemetery. Mr. Wyatt was born in Brownfield and attended Phyllis Wheatley School in Brownfield. He joined the Army during World War II. After being honorably discharged, he moved to Amarillo and had been a resident here for more than 40 years. He worked in the construction business. Survivors include his wife, Doris; a son, Robert Wyatt of Fresno, Calif.; a stepson, Lonnie Nelson of Lubbock; two daughters, Betty Wyatt of Waco and Mary Wyatt of Farmdale, Calif.; a stepdaughter, Sandra Savage of Dallas; two brothers, Cecil Wyatt and Waddell Wyatt, both of Sacramento, Calif.; two sisters, Pearl Walton of Amarillo and Mabel Davis of San Diego; seven grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. Burial will be in Llano Cemetery. Mr. Garcia was born in Logan, N.M. He married Santana Cisneros in 1948 at Tucumcari, N.M. He worked as a taxi driver for 33 years and drove semi-trucks for Massy Ferguson for 10 years. He was a member of Gold Star Bingo. He had been a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church since 1951. He was preceded in death by a son, Abran Garcia Jr. Survivors include his wife; three daughters, Victoria Murguia, Ester Garcia and Rosalie Garcia, all of Amarillo; five sons, Tony Garcia of Fort Worth, Soylo Martinez Jr. of Amarillo, Frankie Ramirez and Ernest Jordan, both of Amarillo, and Tony Ramirez of Rocky Ford, Colo.; 18 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Arrangements are by Rector Funeral Home, 2800 S. Osage St. Mrs. Sisneros was born in Augusta, Ga. She moved to Amarillo more than 10 years ago from Georgia. She attended Palo Duro High School. She married Michael Sisneros in 1993 at Amarillo. Skylar was born in Amarillo. Kellie's survivors include her husband; two daughters, Kayla Sisneros and Mycol Sisneros, both of the home; her father, Trevor Price of Augusta; and a sister, Renee Zamora of Lubbock.
