Mr. Baca was born in Anton Chico, N.M., and had lived in Amarillo for 25 years. He married Maria Tenorio in 1974 at Amarillo. He worked in construction. He was a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. Survivors include his wife; two sons, Sammy Baca and Lawrence Baca, both of Amarillo; his parents, Albino and Candida Baca of Anton Chico; four sisters, Teresa Baca and Lorrie Ann Pino, both of Amarillo, Debbie Baca of Anton Chico and Becky Pauline Pino of Las Vegas, N.M.; two brothers, Anthony Leroy Baca and Jose Baca, both of Amarillo; and a grandchild. The family will be at 3708 E. 16th Ave. The body will not be available for viewing. Ruby Kono Ruby Kono, 78, of Amarillo, died Friday, Aug. 22, 1997. She was a homemaker and a member of First Baptist Church of Lamesa. Myrtle Ann Whitsett Myrtle Ann Whitsett, 84, of 700 W. 14th Ave., died Friday, Aug. 22, 1997. She graduated from Bushland High School and attended Amarillo College before going to San Antonio to work for the Work Progress Administration. She married Johnson Whitsett in 1939 at San Antonio. Mrs. Whitsett lived in Dallas for 16 years and was a member of First United Methodist Church and served as president of United Methodist Women and the Couples Co-op. In Amarillo, she was a member of Polk Street United Methodist Church, the 50-50 Sunday School class, United Methodist Women and Modern Study Club. Survivors include her husband; a son, Mal Whitsett of Amarillo; a sister, Sadie Mae Pollard of Amarillo; a brother, L.D. Brooks of Austin; and a grandchild. He married Lela Mae White in 1949 at Wichita Falls. She preceded him in death. Mr. Underwood was a tile setter and an Army veteran of World War II, where he served with the military police. Survivors include a son, Thomas Underwood of Amarillo; three daughters, Janet Conley, Sue Sustaita and Judy Ward, all of Amarillo; a brother, Glen Dale Underwood of Wills Point; a sister, Deloris Eddy of Lawton, Okla.; eight grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. The family requests memorials be to Crown of Texas Hospice. Marbelle Westfall Brasher Marbelle Westfall Brasher, 90, of Amarillo, died Saturday, Aug. 23, 1997. Wayne Sheffield of Trinity United Methodist Church, and Dick Marcear of Central Church of Christ, officiating. Burial will be in Llano Cemetery. Mrs. Brasher was born in Atkinson, Neb. She lived in Pleasant Hill, N.M. and graduated from high school there. She moved to Amarillo in 1926 from Pleasant Hill. She married Isaac Brasher in 1927 at Amarillo. He died in 1977. Mrs. Brasher worked for Western Union in Amarillo. She also worked for the Amarillo Independent School District as a cafeteria manager for 25 years at Lamar Elementary and Crockett Junior High School. She was a member and volunteer for Amarillo Senior Citizens. She was also a member of Trinity Methodist Church, Christian Friendship Class and McDonalds Birthday Club. Survivors include a son, Eddie Brasher of Amarillo; two granddaughters; and four great-grandchildren. The family will be at 3516 Hawthorne Drive. Rosary will be recited at 6 p.m. today at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church in Clovis. Mass will be celebrated at 1 p.m. Monday in Santa Rita Catholic Church at Carrizozo with the Rev. Dave Bergs officiating. Mrs. Martinez was born in Alamogordo. She married Trinidad Martinez in 1956 at Carrizozo. He died in 1992. The couple moved to Clovis in August 1966. She worked as a Title I educational assistant in the Lincoln Jackson Elementary school. She was a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Church and active in the choir and the cursillo movement. Survivors include three sons, Eugene Martinez of Livingston, Samuel Martinez and Trinidad Martinez, both of Clovis, N.M.; a daughter, Mary Dirickson of Huntsville; her mother, Francisca Pacheco of Carrizozo; a brother, David Pacheco of Carrizozo; a sister, Tillie Noble of Jasper, Texas; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Sue Brumfield CLOVIS, N.M. - Sue Brumfield, 66, died Saturday, Aug. 23, 1997. Services will be at 2 p.m. in Dora Church of Christ with Tim Brumfield, officiating. Burial will be in Mount Zion Cemetery by Wheeler Mortuary of Portales. Mrs. Brumfield was born in 1930 at Snyder. Just before her high school graduation in 1948, the family moved to Portales. She returned to Snyder to graduate with her class. She went to college at Eastern New Mexico University in Portales. She married John M. Brumfield in 1950 at Portales. The couple moved to Moses Lake, Wa., but when her husband left for the Korean War, she returned to Portales. The couple later moved to Dora where they ran a dairy operation for 30 years. She was active in her church and operated an extensive phone ministry for cancer patients. The family requests memorials be to New Mexico Christian Children's Home. Lewis Libby Sr. CLOVIS, N.M. - Lewis Libby Sr., 74, died Wednesday, Aug. 20, 1997. Memorial services will be at 10 a.m. Monday in Trinity Church with the Rev. Rick Ketterling, officiating. Cremation will be by Muffley Funeral Home. Mr. Libby was born in Durand, Mich. He moved to Clovis in 1995. He worked in landscaping and attended Trinity Church. Survivors include his wife, Mary Libby; three sons, Lewis Libby of Carita, Walter Libby of Missouri and Cletus Libby of Alabama; four daughters, Pauline Libby and Debbie Libby, both of Michigan, and Tanya Snyder and Sarah Wendt, both of Phoenix, Ariz.; two sisters, Mary Bruno and Hilda Libby, both of Michigan; two brothers, Charles Libby and John Libby, both of Michigan; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Millard E. Case CLOVIS, N.M. - Millard E. "Jack'' Case, 64, died Thursday, Aug. 21, 1997. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Monday in Sunset Terrace Cemetery at Farwell with the Rev. Wayne Boydstun officiating. Military rites by Cannon Air Force Base Honor Guard. Mr. Case was born in Steamboat Springs, Colo. He served in the Air Force from 1952 to 1956. He married Mary Hutton in 1976 at Kit Carson, Colo. The couple moved to Clovis in 1977 where he was a truck driver for Pioneer Hybrid. He was a life member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3280 and a Baptist. Survivors include his wife, three daughters, Patricia Case of Georgia, Lesia Case of South Carolina and Rhonda Hutton of Amarillo; a son, Ronnie Hutton of Amarillo, a brother, Fred Case of Bakersfield, Calif; a sister, Louella Smitt of Grand Junction, Colo; and one grandchild. Helen Stanton White ALBUQUERQUE - Helen Stanton White, 79, died Thursday, Aug. 21, 1997. A memorial celebration will be at 4 p.m. Friday at Immanuel Baptist Church in Tucumcari at 706 East Hines. Mrs. White was born in Oklahoma. She was married to David Stanton for 48 years, living in California and Arizona. After David Stanton's death, she and her sister moved from Arizona to Tucumcari. Survivors include her husband, Jake White of Tucumcari; two stepsons, Joe White, Jerald White, both of Tucumcari; two adopted daughters, Doris and Pearl of Tucumcari; a brother, Brian Trapp of El Paso; a sister, Bonnie Powell of Tucumcari; six grandchildren; and a great-grandchild. Elsewhere Edd A. Stallworth WEBSTER, N.Y. - Edd A. Stallworth, 70, died Monday, Aug. 18, 1997. Services were at 10 a.m. Thursday in Anthony Funeral Chapel. Burial was in Webster Union Cemetery. Mr. Stallworth was born in Amarillo. He received his education at Amarillo High School, Wentworth Military Academy and West Texas State College. He worked for Eastman Kodak Co. as a quality control engineer in color print and processing. He retired in 1986 after 35 years of service. Mr. Stallworth was a veteran of World War II and a member of St. John's Lutheran Church. Survivors include his wife of 48 years, Olive; sons, Robert Stallworth of Mumford, and Ronald Stallworth and John Stallworth, both of Rochester; and three grandchildren. Area Dorothy Tipton DUMAS - Dorothy Tipton, 71, died Friday, Aug. 22, 1997. Mrs. Tipton was born in Canute, Okla., and had been a longtime resident of Dumas. She retired as a custodian at Green Acres School in Dumas. She was a member of First Street Church of Christ. She married H.C. Tipton in 1977 at Clayton, N.M. Survivors include her husband; a son, Kenneth Weaver of Evanston, Wyo.; three brothers, Owen Morgan of Amarillo, Doyle Morgan of Elk City, Okla., and Bill Morgan of Duke, Okla.; and a sister, Mary Lou Trent of Crystal River, Fla. Burial was in Kirkland Cemetery at Kirkland by Johnson Funeral Home. Mrs. West was born in Range County. She was a nurse's aide and a member of Calvary Baptist Church. She married C.O. West in 1932 at Hollis, Okla. He died in 1972. She also was preceded in death by a daughter, Charlene Schaefer, in 1988. Survivors include two daughters, Peggy McClain of Angel Fire, N.M., and Nelda Rogers of Childress; a son, Larry West of Lubbock; a brother, T.B. Pickrel of Denison; eight grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. Dennis Cheek HEREFORD - Dennis "D.L.'' Cheek, 82, died Friday, Aug. 22, 1997. Graveside services were at 10 a.m. Saturday in West Park Cemetery with David McClain officiating. Arrangements are by Rix Funeral Directors. Mr. Cheek was born in Smithville, Okla. He had been a longtime farmer. He married Lillian Edna Gardner in 1938 at Montague County. He was preceded in death by an infant son. Survivors include his wife; three sisters, Hazel Mooney of Decatur, Eunice Uberman of Fort Worth and Maxine Drummond of Brownfield. Mary Ellen Bowen PLAINVIEW - Mary Ellen Fourmentin Bowen, 93, died Friday, Aug. 22, 1997. Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday in First Church of the Nazarene with Shane Fouts, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Plainview Memorial Park by Wood-Dunning Funeral Home. Mrs. Bowen was born in Greer County, Okla. She moved to Plainview in 1937 from Wellington. She married James Everett Bowen in 1920 at Wellington. He died in 1986. She also was preceded in death by a son. Mrs. Bowen was an LVN at Plainview Hospital from 1942 to 1965. She was a member of First Church of the Nazarene. Survivors include two daughters, Oleta Rogers of Plainview and Gwinn Farnsworth of San Jose, Calif.; seven grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. Rhoba Stewart Christian STINNETT - Rhoba Stewart Christian, 80, of Houston, a former Stinnett resident, died Friday, Aug. 22, 1997. Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in First Christian Church with the Rev. Billy Holland, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Cemetery by Brown Funeral Directors of Borger. Mrs. Christian was born in Glenpool, Okla., and was a former longtime Stinnett resident. She was a homemaker and a member of First Christian Church of Stinnett. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lester Christian, in 1996. Survivors include two sons, Paul Christian of Houston and Bob Christian of Pearland; a brother, Eldon Stewart of Lakeside, Calif.; a sister, Lee Keller of Tulsa, Okla.; and three grandchildren. The body will be available for viewing Monday at the Brown Funeral Directors Memorial Chapel in Stinnett. Herman Wilson Dye CLAUDE - Herman Wilson Dye, 74, died Thursday, Aug. 21, 1997. Services were at 2 p.m. Saturday in First Baptist Church with Bill Phillips of Amarillo, the Rev. Larry Crumpton, pastor of Claude First United Methodist Church, and the Rev. Phil Mercado of Amarillo officiating. Burial was in Claude Cemetery by Robertson Funeral Directors Inc. of Clarendon. Mr. Dye was born in Claude. He was a resident of Amarillo from 1952 to 1959. He lived in Oklahoma for more than 14 years before returning to Claude seven years ago. He married Geraldine "Jerry'' Marie Griffin in 1942 at Amarillo. Mr. Dye worked as a machinist for the government for 26 years. He then was a strip mining supervisor for Utah International for 14 years before retiring in 1987. He was ordained as a deacon at Claude First Baptist Church in 1957. He was a longtime member and past noble grand of the Farmington, N.M., Oddfellows. He was a Navy veteran of World War II. Survivors include his wife; four sons, Darwin Dwight Dye and Charles Lynn Dye, both of Farmington, Presley Dye of Keyes, Okla., and Harold Wilson Dye of Bloomfield, N.M.; a sister, Marie Cope of Claude; two brothers, Roy L. Dye Jr. of Houston and Howard Dye of Amarillo; nine grandchildren; and a great-grandchild. Donnie Stagner Owen HEREFORD - Donnie Stagner Owen, 96, died Friday, Aug. 22, 1997. Services will be at 4:30 p.m. Monday at First Baptist Church in Hereford with the Rev. Terry Cosby of Hereford, officiating. A private burial will follow by Parkside Chapel funeral directors. Mrs. Owen was born in Itasca. She had lived in Hereford for 92 years. She married Gleaves Owen in 1918 at Deaf Smith County. He died in 1963. Mrs. Owen was a lifelong member of Hereford First Baptist Church. She was a homemaker. Survivors include eight sons, Jack Owen of Carrolton, Mo., Warren Owen and Bobby Owen, both of Hereford, Gwynne Owen and G.P. Owen, both of Trinidad, John David Owen of Seattle, Wash., Lawrence Owen of Hot Springs, Ark., and Homer Lee Owen of Waco; two daughters, Jewell Hargrave of Hereford and Anna Joe Wilson of Oklahoma City, Okla.; two brothers, Earl Stagner and Fred Stagner, both of Hereford; a sister, Della Stagner of Hereford; 25 grandchildren; 71 great-grandchildren; and 11 great-greatgrandchildren. Sherry Beth Whitson HEREFORD - Sherry Beth Whitson, 40, died Thursday, Aug. 21, 1997, in Cedar Rapids, Mich. She was a resident of Hereford for most of her life. She married Leon Whitson in 1974. Mrs. Whitson was the manager of the Family Dollar Store in Hereford. She was a member of Twin Oaks Baptist Church in Fort Worth. She was a member of First United Methodist Church, where she was educational assistant for more than 20 years. She was a member of the Friendship Sunday School class. She was on the Frank Phillips College Board of Regents for 19 years, and was a member of the Altrusa Club. He was an active Boy Scout leader and coach for Little League Baseball.
