Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. today in Llano Cemetery with the Rev. Bill Wade of Polk Street United Methodist Church and Leland Hutson of Canyon Hill Church of Christ officiating. Arrangements are by Brooks Funeral Directors of Canyon. Mr. Bassett was born in Amarillo and graduated from Amarillo High School. He was a Marine veteran of the Korean War. He was a truck driver for S&B Stage Lines Inc. of Amarillo, delivering mail from Amarillo to Dallas for 13 years. He was a member of Polk Street United Methodist Church. Mr. Bassett married Vilma Espinoza in 1982 in Orange County, Calif. Survivors include his wife; a son, John E. Bassett of the home; a daughter, Denise Bassett of Fayetteville, Ark.; a sister, Janelle Harrison of Wimberly; and a grandson. The family requests memorials be to Crown of Texas Hospice, 1001 S. Jefferson St., Amarillo, Texas. Vera Rantz Vera Rantz, 79, of Amarillo, died Tuesday, Sept. 23, 1997. Services will be at 2 p.m. today in First Baptist Church Chapel with Dr. Howard Batson of the church officiating. Burial will be in Llano Cemetery by Memorial Park Funeral Home, 6969 E. Interstate 40. Mrs. Rantz was born in Anadarko, Okla. She moved to Amarillo in 1962 from Littlefield. She married Morris Rantz in 1961. Mrs. Rantz was a jewelry salesperson before retiring. She was a member of First Baptist Church, where she and her husband were Sunday school teachers for 18 years. Survivors include her husband; a brother, Gene Dirickson of Solomons, Md.; and two sisters, Anna Mae Gillespie of Edgewood, N.M., and Elsie of Tulsa, Okla. The family requests memorials be to the Don and Sybil Harrington Cancer Center. Canyon Buford Bagwell Buford "Ben'' Bagwell, 75, of Canyon, died Tuesday, Sept. 23, 1997. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. today in Claude Cemetery at Claude. Arrangements are by Brooks Funeral Directors of Canyon. Mr. Bagwell was born in Claude. He attended rural schools in Armstrong County and graduated from Claude High School in 1939. He served in the Navy during World War II aboard a mine layer. He participated in the North Africa and Okinawa invasions. He was honorably discharged in 1946 and then attended West Texas State Teachers College in Canyon. Mr. Bagwell worked for Shamrock Oil and Gas Co. He retired from the Texas Fish and Game Commission. Survivors include two sisters, Odessa Brunson of Claude and Addie Mae Cristy of Emmett, Idaho; and seven brothers, Ray Bagwell of Statesville, N.C., Houston Bagwell of Live Oak, Fla., Bob Bagwell of Tulsa, Okla., Leonard Bagwell of Loma, Colo., Leon Bagwell of Gruver, and Milton Bagwell and Rex Bagwell, both of Claude. Oklahoma Freddie Lee Clark GUYMON, Okla. - Freddie Lee "Bud'' Clark, 68, died Tuesday, Sept. 23, 1997. Services will be at 2 p.m. today in Henson-Novak Funeral Directors Chapel with the Rev. Randy Caddell, pastor of First Southern Baptist Church at Garden City, Kan., officiating. Burial will be in Elmhurst Cemetery. Mr. Clark was born in Texas City. He was an Army veteran of the Korean War. He had farmed most of his life. Survivors include two daughters, Vicki Caddell of Garden City and Anita Peterson of Liberal, Kan.; a son, Ivan Clark of Guymon; two brothers, Irvin Clark of Guymon and Silas Clark of Texhoma; and seven grandchildren. A Bud Clark Memorial has been established for the American Heart Association. Memorials will be accepted at Henson-Novak Funeral Home, Box 1306, Guymon, Okla. 73942. New Mexico Bobby L. Pate PORTALES, N.M. - Bobby L. Pate, 73, died Monday, Sept. 22, 1997. Graveside services will be at 3 p.m. today in Portales Cemetery with Scott P. Reeves officiating. Arrangements are by Wheeler Mortuary of Portales Inc. Mr. Pate was born and raised in the Arch community east of Portales. He graduated from Portales High School in 1941. He married Gena Bess Shinn in 1945 at Portales. They lived in Portales until 1972, when they moved to Muleshoe. Mr. Pate worked as foreman on a local ranch in Muleshoe until 1974, when they moved to Garden City, Kan. After moving to Kansas, Mr. Pate was the cattle foreman for Hitch 2 Cattle Feeders for several years and then transferred to Hitch 1 Cattle Feeders in Guymon, Okla. He retired in 1989. He had trained race horses much of his life. He was a member of the American Quarter Horse Association and the Oklahoma Quarter Horse Racing Association. Mr. Pate was preceded in death by his wife in 1977. Survivors include two sons, Tom Pate of Hugoton, Kan., and Joe Pate of Texhoma, Okla.; a daughter, Rebecca Tinker of San Antonio, Texas; two sisters, Evelyn Wright of Portales and Dorothy Kennedy of Denver; and two grandchildren. The family will be at the home of Bill and Beverly Roberts on the Clovis Highway. Elsewhere Fern Marshall Green ROARING SPRINGS - Fern Marshall Green, 82, of Bakersfield, Calif., a former Roaring Springs resident, died Wednesday, Sept. 17, 1997. Graveside services will be at 4 p.m. Friday in Roaring Springs Cemetery. Arrangements are by Seigler Funeral Home in Matador. Mrs. Green was born in Jayton. She graduated from Roaring Springs High School and then attended college in Canyon and California. She married John Kelly Green in 1933 at Roaring Springs. They moved to California in 1953. They were founding and charter members of Trinity Baptist Church in Bakersfield. Mrs. Green taught in the Bakersfield city schools for 24 years, retiring in 1984. Survivors include her husband; a son, Caines Duff Green of Porterville, Calif.; a daughter, Kelly Anne Graham of Bakersfield; a brother, Buck Marshall of Roaring Springs; two sisters, Virgie Clower Bannister of Plainview and Tressie Warren of Matador; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. The family requests memorials be to the Roaring Springs Cemetery Association. Tom B. Yeates ROARING SPRINGS - Tom B. Yeates, 87, died Tuesday, Sept. 23, 1997. Services will be at 2 p.m. today in Roaring Springs First Baptist Church with the Rev. Don Jones, pastor, and the Rev. Johnny Williams, retired Methodist minister from Lubbock, officiating. Burial will be in Afton Cemetery at Afton by Seigler Funeral Home of Matador. Mr. Yeates was born in Afton, Dickens County. He lived in Afton for many years before moving to Roaring Springs. He later moved to Lubbock. He married Mamie Alice Hughes in 1929 at Afton. She died in June. He also was preceded in death by a son, Gerald Yeates, in 1996. Mr. Yeates was a retired farmer and a stockman. He was a member of Roaring Springs First Baptist Church. Survivors include a son, Tom W. Yeates of Lubbock; a sister, Hortense Goodwin of Afton; five grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and three great-greatgrandchildren. James Donald Miller PRESCOTT, Ariz. - James Donald Miller, 69, a former Amarillo resident, died Monday, Sept. 22, 1997. Private arrangements were by Arizona Ruffner Wakelin Funeral Home. Mr. Miller was born in Dunlap, Kan. He moved to Prescott from Amarillo in 1993. He was a clerk for Santa Fe Trail Transportation before retiring in 1983. Survivors include his wife, Nan Miller; a daughter, Jana Dee Nelson of Flagstaff; a son, Kim Alan Miller of Aloha, Ore.; two brothers, Ben N. Miller of Mesa and Arthur W. Miller of Fredonia; five sisters, Lola Bare, Bessie Miller and Brucie Stevenson, all of Salina, Kan., Evelyn Scott of Council Grove, Kan., and Sally Pickett of Americas, Kan.; and seven grandchildren. Area Marie Post FRITCH - Marie Post, 88, died Wednesday, Sept. 24, 1997. Services will be at 11 a.m. today in Minton / Chatwell Funeral Directors Memorial Chapel in Borger with Richard Kasko, minister of the Borger Church of Christ, officiating. Burial will be in the Garden of Beatitudes at Westlawn Memorial Park. Mrs. Post was born in Eastern Oklahoma and had been a Hutchinson County resident since 1933. She was a homemaker and a member of the Borger Church of Christ. She also was a member of the Ladies Golf Association for many years. She and her husband, Ralph Post, owned The Highway Cafe and the Post Drive-In for many years. Her husband died in 1980. Survivors include two brothers, Kenneth Bookout of Quanah and Jack Bookout of Burkburnett; and two sisters, Jerry Tisdale and Mildred Maggart, both of Fritch. The family requests memorials be to a favorite charity. The family will be in Fritch at 413 Mustang and 415 Coronado. Lucy Jones QUANAH - Lucy Jones, 64, died Tuesday, Sept. 23, 1997. Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. today in Quanah Memorial Park with the Rev. John Spangler officiating. Arrangements are by Price-Jackson Funeral Home. Mrs. Jones was born in Beaumont. She had lived in Quanah since 1995, moving from Roanoke. She was a homemaker. She married Cecil Jones in 1965 at Weatherford. Survivors include her husband; a stepdaughter, Judy Ruffin of Burleson; a sister, Gaye Marino of Beaumont; and three stepgrandchildren. R.E. McCain PAMPA - R.E. "Mac'' McCain, 72, died Tuesday, Sept. 23, 1997. Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday in Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors Colonial Chapel with the Rev. Delbert White, pastor of Fellowship Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery. Mr. McCain was born in Paducah and attended school in Cee Vee. He moved to Pampa in 1943 from Paducah. He married Ruby S. Wallace in 1982 at Pampa. They made their home in Pampa. Mr. McCain worked for Wilcox Oil Co. for 14 years and for Webco, Meco and Authur Brothers Contractors at Celanese in Pampa for 19 years. He also worked for the Pampa Independent School District at Austin School in the maintenance department for 31/2 years. He was a Navy veteran of World War II, serving on the USS Carlisle. He was a member of Moose Lodge No. 1163 and Fellowship Baptist Church. Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Lavonna Thornburg of Dumas; two sons, Kevin McCain of Houston and Ronnie McCain of Pampa; a sister, Lola Mae River of Ojai, Calif.; a brother, Oaty McCain of Pampa; two stepdaughters, Brenda Windship of Richwood and Linda Choate of Enid, Okla.; 15 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. The family requests memorials be to Moose Lodge No. 1163, 401 E. Brown, Pampa, Texas 79065. Sarah Walton HEREFORD - Sarah "S.T.'' Walton, 94, died Wednesday, Sept. 24, 1997. Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in Gililland-Watson Funeral Home Rose Chapel with Bonnie Dunnsworth, pastor of Wesley United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Castro Memorial Gardens in Dimmitt. Mrs. Walton was born in Van Alstyne. She moved from East Texas in 1923 to the Easter community. She married Fred Erwin Walton in 1925 at Dimmitt. They lived on the Slimmons Farm near Easter and were involved in farming. Mr. Walton died in 1982. Mrs. Walton was a homemaker and a member of First United Methodist Church. She taught Sunday school at Easter and also helped with the elections. She was a member of many community clubs and was involved with church activities. She moved to Hereford in 1982 from Easter. Survivors include a sister, Grace Brown of Las Cruces, N.M.; and a brother, Nolan Fields of Sundown. Audry Timmons PADUCAH - Audry Timmons, 73, died Tuesday, Sept. 23, 1997. Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday in Paducah First Baptist Church with the Rev. Sam Crosby, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Northfield Cemetery at Northfield. Arrangements are by Seigler Funeral Home. Mrs. Timmons was born in Colleyville, Cottle County. She was a longtime resident of the Cee Vee and Northfield area before moving to Paducah several years ago. She married Joseph Weldon Timmons in 1940 at Paducah. He died in 1988. Mrs. Timmons was a member of Paducah First Baptist Church. She served on the Cottle County Museum Board and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary. She also was secretary of the Paducah Senior Citizens Board. Survivors include a son, Gus Timmons of Paducah; a daughter, Nara Timmons of Dallas; two brothers, Houston Hall of Blackwell, Okla., and Edward Hall of Henrietta, Okla.; a half sister, Juanell Mims of Vernon; and three granddaughters.
