Doug Harvey of First Christian Church in Panhandle officiating. Burial will be in Llano Cemetery. Mr. Chaney was born in Golden. He married Peggy Bumpas in 1948 at Claude. She died in 1994. He worked at Roberts Paper Co. He was a Baptist. Survivors include a son, Larry Wayne Chaney of El Paso; five daughters, Deborah Wood of Barnsdall, Okla., Barbara Cody of Lubbock, Claudia Miller of Panhandle, and Marilyn Franklin and Vicki Chaney, both of Amarillo; a brother, L.D. Buchanan St. Joseph Philip Wedding Sr. Joseph Philip Wedding Sr., 82, of Scottsdale, Ariz., formerly of Amarillo, died Thursday, Jan. 23, 1997. Prayer services will be at 6:30 p.m. Monday in BlackburnShaw Funeral Directors, Memorial Chapel, Fifth Avenue and Pierce Street. Mass will be celebrated at 2 p.m. Tuesday in St. Mary's Catholic Church by Monsignor Francis A. Smyer of the church. Burial will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery. Mr. Wedding was born in Whitesville, Ky., and moved to Amarillo in 1925. He attended St. Mary's Academy, Price College and Amarillo College. He married Rachel Miller in 1968. He was an engineer for Northwest Texas Hospital and director of plant services for the Amarillo Hospital District. He also was an engineer and later building manager of the Fisk Building in downtown Amarillo. He served as building manager of the Bank of the Southwest building from the time it opened until his retirement in 1979. During that time he also was manager of the Gold Tree Restaurant and the Ladder Down. He also was a partner in Wed-Car Commercial Cleaning. After his retirement, he worked in El Paso as building manager for First Financial Bank. He and his wife moved to Scottsdale in 1993. He was a member of the South Amarillo Lion's Club and served as president from 1959 to 1960. He later was lieutenant governor for the Lions International District 2T-1 and was district coordinator for the Lions Club Eye Bank. He was active in the Texas Building Owners and Manager's Association and served as state president in 1973. He also taught building maintenance for the vocational education program at Amarillo College and offered annual workshops in building management at the University of Houston. Mr. Wedding was a member of Sacred Heart Cathedral Parish and later of St. Mary's Parish. He was a member of the Council No. 1450 of the Knights of Columbus and was a volunteer for the Boy Scouts of America, serving on the troop committee for Troop 21 for many years. Survivors include his wife; three children, Col. J.P. Wedding Jr. of Amarillo, Anne Wedding of Irving and Patrick Wedding of San Antonio; a stepdaughter, Carolyn Garrison of Amarillo; a sister, Huberta Chandler of Torrance, Calif.; eight grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Mrs. McCasland was born in Broadview. She married Z A. McCasland in 1937 at Portales. She was a pioneer in the Curry and Quay County area. She had lived on the McCasland homestead until moving to Clovis in 1948. She had lived in Clovis until moving to Hereford, Texas, in 1988, and she returned to Clovis in 1992. She was an accomplished artist and cook. She was preceded in death by her husband. Survivors include three sons, Billy McCasland and Don McCasland, both of Clovis, and Lynn McCasland of Albuquerque; six grandchildren; and 12 greatgrandchildren. She married W.L. "Cotton" Walker in 1951 at Clayton, N.M. They lived in Pampa and then made their home in Dumas in 1953. They moved to Perryton in 1969. She worked at the Senior Village Nursing Home for 10 years. Survivors include her husband; two sons, Danny Walker of Amarillo and Marcus Lynn Walker of Plainview; two daughters, Jerrie Dale Hisel of Sandia and Perrie Gail Armstrong of Dallas; two brothers, Bill Basden and Derrel Basden, both of Amarillo; a sister, Jean Barnum of El Paso; seven grandchildren; and a greatgrandchild. Mr. Osborn was born in Quanah and had lived in Quanah most of his life. He was a member of the Church of the Nazarene. He was a member of Central United Methodist Church. She was a homemaker and a member of Highland Heights Methodist Church in Sweetwater. He grew up in Detroit and Robstown and attended school in Robstown. He married Enedina Morales in 1939 at Sinton. After marrying, he lived in Robstown until moving to Corpus Christi in 1962. He moved to Kress in 1963 and to Plainview in 1970. He was an independent paint contractor before retiring in 1991. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and was a cursillisto. Survivors include his wife; five daughters, Emma Vasquez, Carmen Quintanilla and Mary Rodriquez, all of Plainview, Rosie Trevino of Kyle and Linda Harden of Springfield, Mo.; eight sons, Santos Vasquez of Aurora, Colo., Henry Vasquez Jr. and Juan Vasquez, both of Robstown, and Robert Vasquez, Aurelio Vasquez, Joe Albert Vasquez, Ernest Vasquez and Fabian Vasquez, all of Plainview; two sisters, Guadalupe Zavala of Posie and Manuela Reys of Robstown; 41 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. Ruby Aplin TURKEY, Texas - Ruby Aplin, 89, died Thursday, Jan. 23, 1997. Burial was in Dreamland Cemetery by Seigler Funeral Home of Matador. Mrs. Aplin was born in Quitaque and graduated from Turkey High School in 1926. She married Lorenzo Dow Aplin in 1927. They lived in Fort Cobb, Okla., Roswell, N.M., Lubbock and Anson before returning to Turkey in 1972. Her husband died in 1992. She also was preceded in death by a son, Johnnie Aplin, in 1993. She was a member of the Church of Christ. Survivors include a son, L.D. He was a farmer and a truck driver. Mrs. Guill was born in Van Zandt County and her family settled on McClelland Creek at Alanreed, Gray County in 1918. She married Harry Gray Guill in 1927 at Clarendon. She had lived in Pampa more than 55 years, where she had served as assistant county auditor. She had been a Sunday school teacher in the primary department of First United Methodist Church and was a member of the Historical Society. She was an avid gardener. Survivors include a son, Jimmie White of Southlake, and a brother, J.C. Richardson of Lubbock. Donald G. Phillips DUMAS - Donald G. Phillips, 62, died Friday, Jan. 24, 1997. Mr. Phillips was born in Childress County and had lived in Dumas since 1946, moving from Sunray. He graduated from Dumas High School in 1951. He graduated from Panhandle State at Goodwell, Okla., and received his master's degree from West Texas State University. He retired as principal of Sunset Elementary School in the Dumas Independent School District. He had worked for the school district for 31 years. He was a member of First United Methodist Church, Dumas Noon Lions and American Legion Post No. 224, and a former member of the Senior Citizen Board and Retired Teachers Association of Dumas. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving in the Korean War. He married Ellen Virginia Upchurch in 1957 at Dumas. He graduated from McLean High School and attended Texas Tech University. He married Isabel Baley in 1934 at Clarendon. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and had served during World War II. He was a retired insurance agent, working with Simpson Insurance Agency for more than 20 years. He was a Methodist and a member of McLean Volunteer Fire Department for more than 30 years. He also was a member of the McLean Lion's Club. Survivors include his wife, and a sister, Dorothy Patterson of McLean. Cloyd Marvin Bender PANHANDLE - Cloyd Marvin "Kelly" Bender, 85, died Friday, Jan. 24, 1997. Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday in Calvary Baptist Church with the Rev. L.R. Green, pastor of Pleasant Valley Assembly of God Church, and the Rev. John K. Pratt, of Grace Fellowship, officiating. Burial will be in Panhandle Cemetery by Minton-Chatwell Funeral Directors. Mr. Bender was a lifetime resident of Panhandle and a member of Grace Fellowship Church. He was founder and member of Canadian River Gem and Mineral Society. He had worked for the City of Panhandle as superintendent of water works before retiring. He married Rosine Russell in 1932 at Claude. He was preceded in death by two daughters, Bessie Marie Cullpepper and Nadine Bender. Survivors include his wife; four sons, Robert Earl Bender of Woodville, William C. Bender of Austin, Cloyd Marvin Bender Jr. of San Diego and Michael M. Bender of Woodville; a brother, R.T. Bender of Panhandle; 13 grandchildren; 14 greatgrandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild. John McClarnen BORGER - John McClarnen, 73, died Friday, Jan. 24, 1997. Graveside services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday in Sunset Cemetery at Stinnett with the Rev. Claudia E. Lewis PLAINVIEW - Claudia E. Lewis, 90, formerly of Plainview, died Saturday, Jan. 25, 1997, in Wolfforth. Mrs. Lewis was born in Alvarado. She moved to Plainview at a young age, where she had lived for several years. She moved to Lubbock in 1992. She graduated from Plainview High School and Wayland College. She had taught school at Valleyview before marrying and had worked in the office of Plainview Hospital for many years. She was a member of Oakwood Baptist Church at Lubbock. She married John Clarence Lewis in 1928 at Plainview; he died in 1992. Bobbie Jean Scott TULIA - Bobbie Jean Scott, 68, died Friday, Jan. 24, 1997. Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday in Full Gospel Mission Church with the Rev. Doug Gardner, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery by Wallace Funeral Home. Mrs. Scott was born and raised in McAlester, Pittsburg County, Okla. She attended schools at Ulan, Okla., and moved to Tulia in 1948. She married R.A. Scott in 1946 at McAlester. She was a homemaker and a member of Full Gospel Mission Church. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1994, a daughter, LaWanda Scott, in 1949, and a son, Anthony Curtis Scott, in 1956. Private services are pending with Brown's Colonial Mortuary in Mesa. Ms. Gruver was born in Amarillo and lived in Amarillo most of her life. She was a homemaker. James Lee Mooney Sr. WOODRUFF, Ariz. - James Lee Mooney Sr., 56, died Monday, Jan. 20, 1997. Services were at 11 a.m. Saturday in Woodruff Ward Chapel of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Arrangements were by Owens Mortuary of Holbrook. Mr. Mooney was born in Floydada, Texas, and grew up in Roswell, N.M., and Farmington, N.M. He moved to Arizona in 1960 and lived in Phoenix and Mesa. He married Sharon Rieffer in 1986 and lived in Woodruff after that. He was a store manager for some of the grocery chains in the Valley. He also owned J&S Sales, a toy and electronics wholesale business. He was an Army veteran and a member of and a high priest in Mesa 11th Ward of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He currently was working for a courier service named Metro-Link. Survivors include his wife; two sons, James Mooney Jr. and Carl Mooney; four daughters, Debbie, Kathy, Lori and Karen; his mother, Geraldine Mooney of Amarillo; a brother, Lee Mooney of Mangum, Okla.; a sister, Sheilah Mooney of Amarillo; six stepdaughters, Anneta Smith of Thatcher, Kathy Scoggin of Woodruff, Sheila Pulver of Chicago, Rachael Rieffer of Thatcher, Rayleen Richards of Holbrook and Natasha Petersen of Mesa; 24 grandchildren; and a great-grandchild. Alfred Lee Hartsfield LUBBOCK - Alfred Lee "Al" Hartsfield, 81, died Friday, Jan. 24, 1997. Services were at 4 p.m. in Sunset Church of Christ. Burial will be in Resthaven Memorial Park by Resthaven Funeral Home. Mr. Hartsfield was born in Haskell and graduated from Haskell High School. He was a Marine Corps veteran and a member of the Life Underwriters for more than 58 years, serving as vice president in Pampa in 1952. He was a life member of the Million Dollar Round Table for more than 30 years. He also had been a member of the Lord's Church since 1929 and was a member of Sunset Church of Christ. He married Chrys Tucker in 1938. She died in 1995. Survivors include a son, Russell Hartsfield of Durant, Okla.; a brother, Hess Hartsfield of Haskell; and two grandchildren. Bess Hamilton LUBBOCK - Bess Hamilton, 98, died Saturday, Jan. 25, 1997. Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday in Sanders Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Gene Hawkins officiating. Burial will be in Resthaven Memorial Park by Sanders Funeral Home. Mrs. Hamilton was born in Godley. She married D.C. Hamilton in 1919 at Godley; he died in 1986. She became a school teacher in 1917 and was active in the Baptist ministry and the Buckner's Girl's Home. She was a member of First Baptist Church. Survivors include two sons, D. Clyde Hamilton Jr. of Bastrop and Jack H. Hamilton of Topeka, Kan.; three daughters, Mary B. Ray of Lubbock, Martha Tipps of Hereford and Billie Zellars of Odessa; 13 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren. Oklahoma Iona Lee Jones GUYMON, Okla. - Iona Lee Jones, 87, died Friday, Jan. 24, 1997. Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday in Henson-Novak Funeral Directors Chapel with the Rev. Mike Chaffin, pastor of Victory Memorial United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Hansford Cemetery. Ms. Jones was born in Vernon, Texas. She attended McBride country school in Hansford County, Texas. Her family moved to Guymon in 1920. She was employed at Jackson Drug Store for many years and was active at Victory Memorial United Methodist Church. Survivors include a nephew, John R. Lamond of Fort Worth, Texas.
