Griggs & Sons Funeral Directors, 2615 Paramount Blvd. Mr. Powell was born in Republic County, Kan. He served in the Army during World War II. He married Cora Beth Myers in 1954 at Amarillo. Mr. Powell retired from the U.S. Postal Service Mail Division after 38 years. He had been a member of St. Peter's Episcopal Church since 1970. Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Judy Powell Freeman of Denver; two sons, Kent Powell of Amarillo and Barrie Alan Powell of Taylor; four grandchildren; and a great-grandchild. He married Rita Delaney in 1969 at Amarillo. He worked for Pfizer Pharmaceutical Co. for 15 years. He was a member of Amarillo Flying Club and Amarillo Computer Club. He had been a member of Polk Street United Methodist Church since 1969 and was a former president of the Homebuilders Sunday School class. Survivors include his wife; a son, David Johnson of Houston; a daughter, Judy Gray of Tulsa, Okla.; a stepdaughter, Cindy Holderman of Amarillo; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Anthony D. Catanzarite Jr. Anthony D. "Tony'' Catanzarite Jr., 40, of Amarillo, died Friday, July 25, 1997. Mr. Catanzarite was born in Mishawaka, Ind., and had lived in Amarillo since 1987. He was employed as a truck driver. He also was a salesman. He was a member of Worldwide Church of God. Survivors include two daughters, Casey Brunner and Haley Morgan, both of Mishawaka; his mother, Shirley Catanzarite of Amarillo; two sisters, Kandye Yarborough of Amarillo and Diane Kamerer of Mishawaka; and grandmother, Eva Yarborough of Amarillo. McAnally, 77, of Amarillo, died Friday, July 25, 1997. Services will be at 11 a.m. today in St. Andrew's Episcopal Church school cafeteria with the Rev. Andrew Parker officiating. Burial will be at 2:30 p.m. Monday in Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery in San Antonio. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2820 Virginia Circle. Mr. McAnally was born in Olney. He attended Southern Methodist University. He retired from the farming and ranching industry. He served in the Army Corps of Engineers from 1942 to 1946. He attained the rank of first lieutenant, serving in the Asiatic Pacific and in anti-submarine patrol in the European Theater. His left leg was injured in June 1943 during the sinking of a freighter in the North Atlantic. Mr. McAnally received the Bronze Star Medal for gallantry in action against the enemy near Moasoas, La Union, Luzon, Philippine Islands. While in the Philippines, he was in command of a small reconnaissance patrol with the mission of securing information and reconnoitering possible troop routes in enemy territory. He also received the Silver Star, the Purple Heart, the Meritorious Service Plaque with one Gold Star, the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal with three Bronze Service Stars and the EAME Campaign Medal with one Bronze Service Star. Other awards that he received are the American Theater Campaign Medal and the Victory Medal Philippine Liberation Ribbon with two Bronze Stars. He married Catharine Whittenburg in 1984 at Amarillo. Survivors include his wife; two sons, Oscar McAnally of San Antonio and Lewis McAnally Jr. of Mexico; two daughters, Maria Gabriella McAnally and Martha McAnally, both of Mexico; two stepsons, Jack Turner of Amarillo and Richard Turner of Dallas; two stepdaughters, Diane Bowes of Amarillo and Neecee Lane of Kremmling; his mother, Lillian J. Merriam of San Antonio; eight grandchildren; eight stepgrandchildren; and two greatgrandchildren. The family will be at 3505 Edgewood. Canyon Julia Killham Torczon Julia Killham Torczon, 67, of Eagle, Neb., a former Canyon resident, died Tuesday, July 22, 1997. She owned and operated the Star Cafe in Pawnee City, Neb., before moving to Canyon, where she lived for 20 years. She moved to Eagle three years ago. Ms. Torczon was active in the Republic Party. She was of the Catholic faith. Survivors include four daughters, Susan Gilmore and Carol Torczon, both of Amarillo, Julie Youngblood of Eagle and Mary Torczon of Austin; a son, Mark Torczon of Amarillo; a sister, Connie Brehm of Marysville, Calif.; a brother, John Killham of Amarillo; seven grandchildren; and a great-grandchild. Mr. Rachor was born in Hermiston, Ore., and moved to Logan in May. He was a truck driver and recently was employed at Ralph's Diner in Nara Visa. Survivors include a daughter, Amanda Rachor of Logan; his mother, Brigitte Careny of Hermiston; his father, Melvin Rachor Sr. of Hermiston; a brother, Clair Rachor of San Jon; and a sister, Mary Graham of Logan. She attended Brigham Young University and Texas Tech University. She had been employed by Southwest Cardiovascular Surgical Associates of Lubbock. She was a member of the Second Ward of the Morman Church in Lubbock. Survivors include her mother, Wanda Rackley of Lubbock; and her grandfather, Robert Rackley of Plainview. The family will be at 2808 W. 19th in Plainview. Area Catherine Vaughn PLAINVIEW - Catherine Vaughn, 72, died Wednesday, July 23, 1997. Graveside services were at 11 a.m. Friday in Hale Center Cemetery at Hale Center with the Rev. Gene Hawkins, interim pastor of First Baptist Church of Floydada, officiating. Arrangements were by Lemons Funeral Home. Miss Vaughn was born in Plainview and grew up in the Plainview area. She attended schools in the Snyder community at Halfway and graduated from Plainview High School. She attended Texas Tech University for two years and received a legal secretary degree from Lippert's Business College. She worked for Lucian Morehead until 1967, when she moved to Kansas. Miss Vaughn was employed as a legal secretary for Richard Holmes, who was a Supreme Court Judge in Kansas. She retired in 1992. She returned to Plainview in 1997. She was a member of the Baptist church. Survivors include a brother, Harold Vaughn of Hale Center; and a sister, Geneva Georgeson of Tyler. Elizabeth Chavarria HEREFORD - Elizabeth Chavarria, 49, died Thursday, July 24, 1997. Rosary will be recited from 7 to 9 p.m. today and Sunday in Rix Funeral Directors Chapel. Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday in San Jose Catholic Church with Jesse Guerrero, deacon, officiating. Burial will be in West Park Cemetery. Ms. Chavarria was born in Waco and had been a Hereford resident most of her life. She was a homemaker. Survivors include two daughters, Amy Ramirez and Elizabeth Castillo, both of Hereford; a son, Richard Castillo of Hereford; her mother, Nancy Chavarria of Hereford; a brother; a sister; and six grandchildren. Thomas Elbert Keahey PAMPA - Thomas Elbert Keahey, 91, of Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada, a former Pampa resident, died Thursday, July 17, 1997. Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Monday in Fairview Cemetery with Dr. Jim Prock, pastor of First Baptist Church, officiating. Arrangements are by Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors. Mr. Keahey was born in Pampa and grew up in the Pampa and Groom area. He married Jimmie Lou Hill in 1930 at DeQueen, Ark. He farmed and ran a dairy operation in White Deer. In 1943, he moved to Kress and farmed there before moving to Tulia in 1950. He became the owner and operator of E-Kay Supply Co. in Tulia. When he retired in 1969, he moved near Texarkana and Flint. Mrs. Keahey died in 1990. At that time, Mr. Keahey moved to Winnipeg. He also was preceded in death by a son, Elbert Eugene Keahey. He was a lifelong member of the Southern Baptist Church. Survivors include a son, Thomas Herman Keahey of Winnipeg; four grandchildren; and a great-granddaughter. The family requests memorials be to the Disaster Relief Fund of Texas c/o Rev. Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday in First Baptist Church with the Rev. Charles Davenport, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery by Wallace Funeral Home. Mr. Love was born in Swisher County. He was raised in the Love community and attended school there. He then began farming. He married Pauline Webb in 1935 at West. After marrying, he farmed and was the manager of the Tulia ASCS office for a number of years. In 1946, he and his brother started Love Brothers Oil Co. He also was part-owner of Triangle Butane and Love Brothers Tire Supply. Mr. Love helped start Tulia Savings and Loan and was a past president of the board of directors. He was a member of First Baptist Church and the Tulia Industrial Board. He also was a member of the Tulia Lions Club and the Rotary Club. He was the 1972 Tulia Man of the Year. Mr. Love was preceded in death by a son, Dennis Love, in 1990. Survivors include his wife; a son, Sherwood Love of Tulia; two sisters, Marie Turner of Tulia and Yvonne Mansfield of Novi, Mich.; a brother, Dwane Love of Canyon; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. The family requests memorials be to the Tulia Cemetery Association. Theta Pauline Harrison SHAMROCK - Theta Pauline Harrison, 90, a former Shamrock resident, died Thursday, July 24, 1997. Services will be at 11:30 a.m. today in Bible Methodist Church with the Rev. Nina Hervey, pastor, and the Rev. Joe G. Jernigan of Shamrock officiating. Burial will be in Shamrock Cemetery by Wright Funeral Directors. Mrs. Harrison was born in Philadelphia, Miss. She lived in Shamrock from 1945 until 1992, when she moved to Irving. She married Garland L. Harrison in 1934 at Merigold, Miss. She and her husband operated the Twenty Trees Motel in Shamrock for many years. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1981. Mrs. Harrison was a graduate of Mississippi Women's College in Hattiesburg, Miss. She was a member and Sunday school teacher at Bible Methodist Church. Survivors include a son, Ron Harrison of Irving; and a grandson. Shirley W. Stephens DIMMITT - Shirley W. Stephens, 72, died Thursday, July 24, 1997. Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday in First Baptist Church with the Rev. Howard Rhodes, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Castro Memorial Gardens Cemetery by Foskey-Lilley-McGill Funeral Home. Mrs. Stephens was born in Dimmitt and had been a lifetime Dimmitt resident. She graduated in 1942 from Dimmitt High School, where she was a member of the Bobcat Band and also was a drum major and twirler. She attended Texas Tech University. She married Harold Stephens in 1947 at Dimmitt. He died in 1992. Mrs. Stephens served as the Castro County tax assessor and collector for 16 years. She was a homemaker and a member of the Dimmitt Book Club and First Baptist Church. Survivors include a brother, John L. Womack of Dimmitt. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6 to 8 p.m. today. "Clyde'' Bandy, 83, of Plainview, a former Hale Center resident, died Friday, July 25, 1997. Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Monday in Parklawn Memorial Gardens in Plainview with Silas Short officiating. Arrangements are by Freeman Funeral Home of Hale Center. Mr. Bandy was born in Tunnel Hill, Ga. He moved to Hale Center in 1934 from Tennessee. He married Ollie Perkinson in 1935 at Hale Center. Mr. Bandy owned and operated Bandy Feed and Seed in Hale Center before purchasing Bandy Grocery in 1955. He was a 25-year member of Woodmen of the World. He moved to Plainview in 1992 from Hale Center. Survivors include his wife; a son, Jim Bandy Jr. of Hale Center; a daughter, June Odom of Abernathy; a brother, C.L. Bandy of Fort Worth; a sister, Edna Aytes of Maryville, Tenn.; seven grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
