"Lito" Samora, 75, of 5700 Diaz Ranch Road, died Tuesday, Dec. 23, 1997. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Mr. Samora was born in Melrose, N.M., and moved to Amarillo in 1932. He was a veteran of the Navy. He worked for Rock Island Railroad for four years, then went into cement contracting for Crowe Guilde. He operated his own cement contracting company, Joe Samora Cement Contracting, for 25 years before retiring in 1981. Mr. Samora married Carmen Romero in 1941 at Amarillo. He was preceded in death by a son, Sosteno Samora, in 1946. She also was preceded in death by a son, James Wolden, in 1988. Lela Blanche Wadlow DALHART - Lela Blanche "Nanny" Wadlow, 94, died Sunday, Dec. 21, 1997. Graveside services were at 3 p.m. Wednesday in Larrell Hill Cemetery in Mission with the Rev. Ed Gilpin, pastor of First Baptist Church of Mission, officiating. Arrangements were by Virgil Wilson Mortuary. Local arrangements were by Hass Funeral Home Inc. Mrs. Wadlow was born in Grandview, Johnson County. She married Orun Wadlow in 1922. They farmed near Hobart, Okla., until moving to Mission in 1929. They farmed in Mission until Mr. Wadlow's death in 1988. Mrs. Wadlow was a member of First Baptist Church in Mission until moving to Dalhart, where she attended Central United Methodist Church. Survivors include a daughter, Katie Martin of Dalhart; three sisters, Mary Genenwein of San Juan, Billie Polk of Pharr and Anna Kate Bowman of Fredericksburg; three grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. James Nolan McKean PAMPA - James Nolan McKean died Thursday, Dec. 25, 1997. Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Monday in First Presbyterian Church with Dr. Edwin Cooley, pastor, officiating. Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Greenwood Memorial Park in Fort Worth with the Rev. Linda McDermott, associate pastor of First United Methodist Church, officiating. Arrangements by Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors. Mr. McKean was born in Lometa and attended schools in Fort Worth. He moved to Pampa in 1927. He was employed in pipeline construction and plant construction by Cabot Corp. In 1932, he returned to Fort Worth to attend Texas Christian University. He then returned to Pampa in 1936. He worked for Cabot Corp. in Pampa and the Permian Basin area. Mr. McKean married Anne Elizabeth "Betty" Neely in 1939 at Tulsa. She died in 1978. Mr. McKean enlisted in the Marine Corps in 1942, serving in the Pacific in a Marine Aircraft Group. After being discharged in 1945, he entered the newspaper and advertising business in Odessa and Midland. He returned to Pampa in 1953 as manager of The Pampa Daily Spokesman. In 1955, he moved to Washington, D.C., where he was employed as a legislative assistant in both the U.S. House of Representatives and the Senate. He retired and returned to Pampa in 1978. Mr. McKean served on the Pampa Planning and Zoning Commission and assisted in organizing the Clean Pampa Inc. He attended First Presbyterian Church and was a member of the Pampa Rotary Club. Mr. McKean married Mary Ellen Davis in 1979 at Fort Worth. Survivors include his wife; and a sister, Mrs. D.A. Scrivner of Sugar Land. She was a homemaker, a farmer and a member of First Baptist Church. She married William Carl Gray in 1924 at Turkey. He died in 1987. Survivors include a daughter, Nadean Thrasher of Lubbock; and grandchildren. Lucille Swindell QUANAH - Lucille Swindell, 92, died Wednesday, Dec. 24, 1997. Services will be at 2 p.m. today in First Baptist Church with the Rev. Jesse Dea and the Rev. Clinton Young officiating. Burial will be in Quanah Memorial Park by Price-Jackson Funeral Home. Mrs. Swindell was born in Foard County. She attended several rural schools including Liberty School in southern Hardeman County. She was a graduate of Crowell High School. She married Reece Swindell in 1922 at Crowell. They made their home in the Marshall community, north of Quanah. In 1940, they moved to California, where Mrs. Swindell was employed for 23 years by Sears in Los Angeles and Sacramento. When she retired in 1969, she returned to Quanah, where she had lived since. She was a member of the Rebekah Society and the Century Study Club. She also was a member of First Baptist Church. Mrs. Swindell was preceded in death by her husband. Survivors include a son, Larry Swindell of Fort Worth; eight grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. Wyette V. Messner FOLLETT - Wyette V. Messner, 80, died Thursday, Dec. 25, 1997. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. today in Fairmont Cemetery with the Rev. Neil Ragan officiating. Arrangements are by Seeger Funeral Home of Laverne, Okla. Mr. Messner was born in Beaver County, Okla. He married Ethlyn Marie Douglas in 1940 at Beaver. They made their home in Beaver County, where Mr. Messner worked as a heavy equipment operator. He also farmed. In 1981, he retired, and in 1992, he and his family moved to Follett. Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Beth Messner of Follett and Velma Morris of Gage, Okla.; two sons, Victor Messner of Follett and Larry Messner of Hereford; two sisters, Ruby Fausset and Ruth Robbins, both of Darrouzett; six grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. She attended West Texas State Teachers College in Canyon and business school in Oklahoma City. She moved to Lipscomb in 1955 from Dallas. She taught school for two years, worked at the tax office in Lipscomb for several years, and worked for the Internal Revenue Service in Washington, D.C., and Dallas for 20 years. She attended Community Church in Lipscomb. She married Thomas Andrews in 1941 at Dallas. He died in 1956. She grew up in Jones County and attended Anson High School. She lived in Corpus Christi for 59 years before moving to Canyon in 1995. She was a member of University Church of Christ in Canyon and Norton Street Church of Christ in Corpus Christi, where she taught Sunday school and was active in the ladies' organizations. She married Haskell J. Moore in 1934 at Anson. Survivors include her husband; two daughters, Carole Moore Vorgity of Memphis, Tenn., and Beverly Moore Ellis of Canyon; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Mrs. Barela was born in Puerto Luna. She had lived in Clovis since 1943. She was a homemaker and attended Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. She was preceded in death by a son, Roy M. Barela. Survivors include three sons, Moises Barela, Eugeno Barela and Juan Barela; four daughters, Marcella Marez, Flora Nunez, Marie Clotilda and Erlinda Apodaca; 43 grandchildren; 67 great-grandchildren; and nine great-great-grandchildren. Raymond Garcia COLTON, Calif. - Raymond Garcia, 56, died Thursday, Dec. 25, 1997, near Groom, Texas. Services will be in California. Survivors include his wife, Barbara Ann Garcia. Woodrow W. Benton LORENZO - Woodrow W. Benton, 78, died Wednesday, Dec. 24, 1997. Services will be at 2 p.m. today in Lorenzo First Baptist Church with the Rev. Dennis Williams, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Idalou Cemetery at Idalou by Adams Funeral Home. Mr. Benton was born in Matoy, Okla. He was a farmer and a construction worker. He served with the Army during World War II and was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Disabled American Veterans. He was Baptist. He married Wilma Baker in 1941 at Clovis, N.M. Mr. Benton moved from Plainview to Lorenzo in 1968. He had lived in the Estacado area for several years. Survivors include his wife; two sons, Wayne Benton and Roger Benton, both of Amarillo; five daughters, Lanita Goodrum and Carolyn Kirkpatrick, both of Slaton, Shirley Hunt of Amarillo, Lisa Odgers of Fort Worth and Linda Powell of Lorenzo; four sisters, Irene Coe of Plainview, Bernice Noble of Amarillo, and Opal Davis and Mary Koonce, both of Lubbock; 16 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
