Georgia St. Mrs. Smith was born in 1927 at Wellington. She graduated from Quail High School. She married Clarence Grady Smith in 1946 at Carmel, Calif. He preceded her in death in 1978. She was an office manager for Duke Electric for more than 20 years. She was retired from Century 21 Western Realtors. She was a member of Paramount Terrace Christian Church. She is survived by one daughter, Sharron Severyn of Amarillo; two sons, Jackie W. Smith of Amarillo and Tommy C. Smith of Little Rock, Ark.; a brother, Jake Woodman of Amarillo; and six grandchildren. John Robert Pate John Robert Pate, 35, 1015 S. Kentucky, died Saturday, Oct. 25, 1997. Mr. Pate was born in Hobbs, N.M. He was a video technician. He married Susan Davis in 1984. He was preceded in death by his sister, Susan Morgan. Mrs. Cox was born in Belen, N.M. She graduated from Wheeler High School. She married James Glenn Cox in 1959 at Wheeler. She was a cosmetologist and was the owner of Holiday Salon of Beauty in Lubbock for 32 years. She was also an iridologist and herbologist, and sold health foods for 38 years. She was a member of the Sunset Church of Christ. Survivors include her husband; a son, James Glenn Cox Jr. of Smyer; two daughters, Roxie Benincosa of Greenwood, Ark., and Christy Garner of Florence, Ala.; her mother, Elsie Borden of Lubbock; a brother, Eli Borden of Hobbs, N.M.; a sister, Fran Borden of Oneonta, N.Y.; and nine grandchildren. Sadie Hammonds Moore MILAN, Tenn. - Sadie Hammonds Moore, 97, mother of Dr. W. Winfred Moore, former pastor of First Baptist Church in Amarillo, died Friday, Oct. 24, 1997. Services will be at 10 a.m. today in First Baptist Church of Milan, with Dr. Ernest Parvin, officiating. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery. Arrangements by Bodkin Funeral Home. Mrs. Moore was a retired employee of the former Milan Shirt Manufacturing Co. She was a member of First Baptist Church where she was a Sunday school teacher and member of the Women's Missionary Union. Mrs. Moore was preceded in death by her husband, W.E. Moore., and a daughter, Mary Evelyn Eddings. After her daughter's death, Mrs. Moore raised her two grandsons, William Eddings and Leonard Eddings, both of Medina, Tenn. Survivors include a son, W. Area Newton Marion Maddox Jr. CLAUDE - Newton Marion Maddox Jr., 79, died Saturday, Oct. 25, 1997. Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in First Baptist Church of Claude with the Rev. Russell Peterman, pastor of Sandy Springs Christian Church in Atlanta, and Bill Phillips of Amarillo, officiating. Burial will be in Claude Cemetery by Robertson Funeral Directors of Clarendon. Mr. Maddox was born in Codman. He was a resident of Miami for many years before moving to Claude in 1950. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II. He was a farmer and later worked for Pantex. He retired in 1994. He was a member of the Claude American Legion Post and the Claude Masonic Lodge. Mr. Maddox was a member of First Baptist Church. He married Geneva Floyd Lowe in 1968 at Amarillo. Survivors include his wife; three sons, Newton Maddox of Amarillo, and Jim Lowe and David Lowe, both of Inman, Kan.; five daughters, Nancy Jackson of Vega, Ellie McDougal of Walnut Creek, Calif., Gail Hall of Vallejo, Calif., Kathy Woodard of Claude and Jeannine Hermesmeyer of San Angelo; a brother, Arthur Patton of Canyon; 16 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Jerry Kenneth Hays DUMAS - Jerry Kenneth Hays, 67, died Saturday, Oct. 25, 1997. Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in First Baptist Church with the Rev. Scott Willingham, pastor, officiating. He worked for Southwestern Public Service Co. in Amarillo, Plainview, Lubbock, and Canyon. He retired as District Manager of SPS in 1992. He was a member of Dumas Rotary and Optimist Club; Panhandle Chapter of the Santa Fe Trail Association; and the Plum Creek Brigade. He was a Navy veteran and a Baptist. Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Brean Lee Martin of Royse City; a son, Kevin Hays of Dallas; a sister, Patsy Sue Clark of Grand Rapids, Mich; and three grandchildren. George "Derroll'' Held PANHANDLE - George "Derroll'' Held, 60, of Panhandle died Saturday, Oct. 25, 1997. Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Les Hart of First United Methodist Church and the Rev. Norman Patton of First United Methodist Church of Olton officiating. Burial will be at noon at Panhandle Cemetery by MintonChatwell Funeral Directors of Borger. Mr. Held was born in 1937 in Panhandle. He was a pilot for Air Logistics for about 20 years. He worked at Pantex until 1965 when he moved to Del Rio for flight training for the U.S. Air Force. In 1966, he moved to Mineral Wells where he was a helicopter flight instructor. In 1970 he moved to Lafayette, La., where he was an offshore helicopter pilot. Mr. Held, who was a Mason, moved back to Panhandle in 1991. Survivors include two sons, Ed Held of Bailey, Colo., and Tim Held of Greeley, Colo.; his parents, George and Hester Held of Panhandle; two brothers, Leslie Deidric Held of Panhandle and Michael Jay Held of Fritch; and a grandchild. Memorials may be to First United Methodist Church of Panhandle or a favorite charity. Melvin Vick PANHANDLE - Melvin Vick, 73, died Friday, Oct. 24, 1997. Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at First United Methodist Church of Panhandle with the Rev. Jim Perkins of First Baptist Church of Panhandle officiating. Burial will be in Citizens Cemetery in Clarendon by Minton / Chatwell Funeral Directors of Panhandle. Mr. Vick was born in 1924 at Lexington, Texas. He married Betty Naylor in 1943 at Clarendon. He was in the U.S. Army, infantry division, during World War II. He moved to Panhandle in 1954 and was a member of First Baptist Church. He retired as a communication technician from GTE after 36 years. He was a member of the Rotary Club. He was preceded in death by a son, Johnny Gayle Vick, in 1945. Survivors include his wife; a son, Robert Vick of Amarillo; a daughter, Carolyn Apel of Tucumcari, N.M.; a brother, James Vick of Amarillo; four sisters, Norean Edwards, Eunice Henry and Irene Davis, all of Panhandle, and Shirley Riggins of Amarillo; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
