Burial will be at 5 p.m. in the Shamrock Cemetery. Arrangements are by Brown Funeral Directors. Mrs. Smith was born in Gainesville. She had been a Borger resident for 45 years. She was a homemaker and a member of the Bible Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Loyd V. Smith in 1982, and a daughter, Melinda K. Smith Zapatas. Survivors include a son, Jeff Smith of Perryton; a brother, Julius Schmitz of Denton; a sister, Laverne Brinlee of Ivanhoe; her mother, Catherine Schmitz of Bonham; and two grandchildren. Vera A. Tapscott EARTH - Vera A. Tapscott, 86, of Amarillo, died Saturday, April 26, 1997. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. today in the Earth Memorial Cemetery with Denny Sneed of the Church of Christ, officiating. Arrangements are by Parsons-Ellis Funeral Home. Mrs. Tapscott was born in Coleman. She had lived in Amarillo since 1996, moving from Earth. She had lived in Earth since 1963, moving from Wildorado. She married Loris Fenly Tapscott in Hale Center. He died in 1996. She was a member of the Church of Christ in Earth. She and her husband owned the Sunshine Laundry in Earth for 29 years. Survivors include a son, Billy James Tapscott of El Paso; a daughter, Rita Draper of Amarillo; two brothers, Gilford Roberts of McCamey, and Robert Alexander of Frazer Valley, B.C.; nine grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. The family requests memorials be to Earth Church of Christ Memorial Fund. Kenneth Michael Freeman SPEARMAN - Kenneth Michael Freeman, 35, died Friday, April 25, 1997. Services will be at 4 p.m. today in the First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Jeff Lust, pastor, officiating. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Home of Spearman. He had lived in the Spearman area for 15 years, moving from South Dakota. He was a physical plant manager for Hansford Hospital District. He was a Methodist. He married Cheryl Gaede in 1980 at Rapid City. Survivors include his wife; a son, Jared Freeman of the home; a daughter, Jessica Freeman of the home; his parents, Clinton and Margo Freeman of Las Vegas; three brothers, George Freeman and Darol Freeman, both of Rapid City, and Jim Freeman of Pierre, S.D.; his grandmother, Violet Kiefer of Rapid City; and his grandfather, Marvin Johnson of Rapid City. Dora Knox VEGA - Dora Knox, 88, died Sunday, April 27, 1997. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday in the First Baptist Church of Vega, with the Rev. James Peach, pastor, officiating. Burial will be at Memorial Park Cemetery at Vega. Arrangements are by Vega Funeral Home. Mrs. Knox was born in Ethel. She married Hugh Knox in 1929 at Clovis, N.M. They moved to Vega in 1930. He preceded her in death in 1971. She was a homemaker and a member of the First Baptist Church. Survivors include a son, Donald Knox of Vega; two daughters, Phyllis Millsop of Hickory Creek, and Alice Decker of Amarillo; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. Ninfa Leal FRIONA - Ninfa Leal, 44, died Saturday, April 26, 1997. Services will be at 3 p.m. Wednesday in the Iglesia Bautista Belen in Bovina, with the Rev. Joe Silva of Kress and the Rev. Jesus Cantu of Bovina officiating. Burial will be at Bovina Cemetery. Arrangements are by Ellis-Blackwell Funeral Home. Mrs. Leal was born in Eagle Nest. She had been a lifetime resident of Parmer County. She had lived in Friona for the past 13 years, moving from Bovina. She married Santiago Leal in 1970 at Bovina. Survivors include her husband; a son, Charles Ray Leal of Friona; a daughter, Elizabeth Galaviz of Friona; her father, Jesus Espinoza, Sr. of Bovina; 10 brothers, Valentine Espinoza of Greely, Colo., Paul Espinoza of Oklahoma City, Guadalupe Espinoza of Cactus, Jesus Espinoza, Jr. of Bovina, Jose Espinoza and Mario Espinoza, both of Tulia, Carlos Espinoza and Erasmo Espinoza, both of Clovis, N.M., Hugo Espinoza of Uvalde, and David Espinoza of Downey, Calif.; two sisters, Beatrice Meza of Uvalde, and Carolina Dulin of Colona, Ill.; and four grandchildren. Vera Hollar PADUCAH - Vera Hollar, 88, died Saturday, April 26, 1997. Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Dumont Baptist Church, Dumont, with Dr. Tilden Armstrong of Paducah, and the Rev. Sam Crosby, pastor of First Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will be at Dumont Cemetery. Arrangements are by Seigler Funeral Home in Paducah. Mrs. Hollar was born in Dumont. She married E.W. "Dub'' Hollar in 1931 at Dumont. He died in 1983. She was also preceded in death by four sons, Luther Ray Hollar in 1948, Billy Hollar in 1958, Karlton Hollar in 1960, and Jimmie Hollar in 1963. She had lived in Guthrie and Seymour prior to moving to Paducah. She was a homemaker and a member of Dumont Baptist Church. She served as cook and dispatcher for the King County Jail in Guthrie from 1949 until 1969. She was honored by the Paducah Lions Club in 1958 as their woman of the year. She was honored for her devotion in caring for her four sons who had muscular dystrophy. Survivors include three sons, Wesley Hollar of Seymour, Douglas Hollar and Donald Hollar, both of Brenham; two daughters, Gloria Morton of Athens, and Gail Gilmore of Childress; two brothers, Claud Flippen of Paducah, and T.O. Flippen of Las Vegas; two sisters, Ruth Hext of Coleman, and Annabelle Smith of Las Vegas; 16 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren. Stephen Gray Winters BORGER - Stephen Gray Winters, 71, died Saturday, April 26, 1997. Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in the Minton / Chatwell Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Leonard Forsythe of Bible Baptist Church, and Richard Kasko with the Church of Christ of Borger, officiating. Burial will be at Westlawn Memorial Park. Mr. Winters was born in Stephenville. He had been a resident of Hutchinson County since 1926. He graduated from Phillips High School in 1942. He retired in 1987 after 40 years as boilermaker. He was a Navy veteran, serving in World War II. He was a longtime member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 6721 in Slaton. He was a member of Boilermakers Union No. 531, and former business manager with the International Brotherhood of Boilermakers Lodge No. 531. He was a Baptist. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lena Winters in 1988. Survivors include a son, Steven Winters Jr., of Fritch; two stepsons, Ed Stevens of Mesa, Ariz., and Jim Stevens of Grand Prairie; a daughter, Ellen Finet of Amarillo; two brothers, Bill Winters of Fritch, and Willis D. Winters of Odessa; three grandchildren; seven stepgrandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren. Jack Rogers Coiner BORGER - Jack Rogers Coiner, 78, died Saturday, April 26, 1997. Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in the Minton / Chatwell Memorial Chapel with Zeb Sailors of the Church of Christ, officiating. Burial will be at Highland Park Cemetery. Mr. Coiner had been a Borger resident since 1936. He graduated from Borger High School in 1936. He married Laverne Ithaca in 1949 at Clovis, N.M. He was active in the Boy Scouts of America. He was also a charter member of the Toastmasters Club and the Jaycees Club. Survivors include his wife; two sons, Jack Rogers Coiner II of Borger, and John William Coiner of Houston; two brothers, William E. Coiner of Saint Albans, W.Va., and John Charles Coiner of Charleston, W.Va.; a sister, Treva Cox of Charleston, W.Va.; and five grandchildren. Amarillo Dorothy E. Broomfield Dorothy E. Broomfield, 91, of Amarillo, died Saturday, April 26, 1997. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in the Llano Cemetery with Jeri Floyd, president, Benevolent Patriotic Order of Does, officiating. Arrangements are by Schooler-Gordon Funeral Directors, 5400 Bell St. Mrs. Broomfield was born in Dodge City, Kan. She graduated from high school in Dodge City. She married R.L. Broomfield in 1925 at St. Peter's Episcopal Church in Dodge City. He died in 1969. She moved to Amarillo in the early 1930s. During World War II, she worked at the munitions plant. She moved to Chicago in 1958. She moved back to Amarillo in 1969. She was a member of the St. Peter's Episcopal Church, Does Drove No. 128, the Order of the Eastern Star No. 731, and the Amarillo Garden Club. Survivors include a son, M.L. Broomfield of Las Cruces, N.M.; a sister, Charlene Chandler of Amarillo; a brother, John Sidlow of Phoenix, Ariz.; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Edith Fay Hawkins Edith Fay Hawkins, 90, of Amarillo, died Saturday, April 26, 1997. Services will be at 3 p.m. Tuesday in the Bell Avenue Chapel, 5400 Bell Ave., with the Rev. Shad Rue, retired Baptist minister, officiating. Burial will be at Memory Gardens Cemetery. Arrangements are by Schooler-Gordon Funeral Directors. Mrs. Hawkins was born in Grimes, Okla. She married Jasper "Dot'' Hawkins in 1923 at Mangum, Okla. They lived in Artesia, N.M., where she worked as a waitress and picked cotton. Two years later, they moved to Eric, Okla., where she and her husband farmed. Later, they moved to Mangum, Okla. In 1930, they moved to Clovis, N.M. Shortly thereafter, they bought a farm in Melrose, N.M. In 1964, the farm was sold and she and her family moved to Amarillo. She was a member of Paramount Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1973 and a daughter, Betty Jo VonWald, in 1974. Survivors include a daughter, Billie Jensen of Amarillo; a sister, Marguerite Stephenson of Phoenix, Ariz.; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. Kathryn Freeman Kathryn Freeman, 85, of Amarillo, died Friday, April 25, 1997. Services will be at 2 p.m. today in the Blackburn-Shaw Memorial Chapel, Fifth Avenue and Pierce Street, with the Rev. Robert Field, minister of Southeast Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will be at Llano Cemetery. Mrs. Freeman was born in Ochiltree. She married Alfred Freeman in 1946 at Wedding Cake Mountains in New Mexico. He died in 1990. She worked as a dispatcher for Clayton, N.M., Police Department. She retired in 1974. She then was a homemaker. She was active in church work and the American Red Cross. She was instrumental in establishing the AA in Clayton. She was also active in several police associations. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Clayton. Survivors include four daughters, Betty Russell and Bobby Myers, both of Amarillo, Bonny Pearson of San Benito, and Lynda Freeman of Grand Prairie; three sons, Bud Bobbitt and Bill Bobbitt, both of Irving, and Johnny Freeman of Grand Prairie; a brother, Sid Carpenter of Carrollton; two sisters, Ruth Balzer of Perryton, and Mabel Brodie of Waco; 16 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren; and 18 great-great-grandchildren. The family requests memorials be to a favorite charity in lieu of flowers. Marie Taylor Marie Taylor, 93, of Amarillo, a former Shamrock resident, died Saturday, April 26, 1997. Services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday in the Shamrock Church of Christ with Sid Smith, minister, officiating. Burial will be at 4 p.m. at Llano Cemetery with the Rev. Elizabeth Parker, associate to the rector of St. Andrew's Episcopal Church, officiating. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2820 Virginia Circle. Mrs. Taylor was born in Perry County, Ark. She had been a resident of Amarillo since 1993. She had resided in Shamrock from 1935 until 1993, where she owned and operated Western Restaurant and K.C. Steakhouse. She was a member of Business & Professional Women and Shamrock Church of Christ. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Joann Lane. Survivors include a daughter, Jane Ann Smith of Lake Tanglewood; a son, Jim Bob Lane of Amarillo; a stepson, Bob Taylor of California; a stepdaughter, Marion Green of California; a sister, Ima Jean Pettit of Holdenville, Okla.; a brother, Raymond Lipe of Pinetop, Ariz.; nine grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren. Betty Sue Proctor Betty Sue Proctor, 73, of Amarillo, died Friday, April 25, 1997. Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in the Veterans Field of Valor at Llano Cemetery with the Rev. Randy Davis of Olsen Park Baptist Church officiating. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2820 Virginia Circle. Mrs. Proctor was born in Marshall, Mo. She moved to Amarillo in 1958 from Spur. She was employed for many years with Thompson King Insurance and B.R. Barfield Insurance. She married C.W. "Proc'' Proctor in 1943 at Houston. He died in 1996. She and her husband relocated to Canadian in the 1980s, where they owned and operated Proctor's Western Wear until they retired back in Amarillo in 1990. Survivors include a son, Mike Proctor of Amarillo; a daughter, Gerry Cox of Clarkston, Wash.; a sister, Mary Smith of Pleasant Hill, Mo.; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Alexandra Rendon Alexandra Rendon, 32, of Amarillo, died Sunday, April 27, 1997. Rosary will be at 7 p.m. Tuesday in the St. Laurence Cathedral. Mass will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday in the St. Laurence Cathedral with the Rev. Patrick Hoffman officiating. Burial will be at Memorial Park Cemetery. Arrangements were made through Colonial Funeral Chapel, 1010 W. Ninth Ave. Ms. Rendon was born in Amarillo. She graduated from Alamo Catholic High School. She attended nursing school in New Mexico. She was an eucharistic minister at St. Laurence. She was a catechist teacher and a lector at St. Laurence. Survivors include a daughter, Maria Perez of Amarillo; a son, Alexander Rendon of Amarillo; three sisters, Lupita Rendon of Colorado, Teresa Ruiz and Mary Lou Valles, both of Amarillo; and a brother, Salvador Junior Rendon of Amarillo.
