Mr. Collins was born in Amarillo and was a lifelong resident. He was a heavy equipment operator working from Mexico to Montana. He was a member of International Union of Operator Engineers since 1974. He married Peggy McNabb in 1989 at Las Vegas. She graduated from Arnett High School near Hollis in 1935. She had been a resident of Amarillo for 35 years. She was the owner of A&S Distributing Co., where she worked as secretary, bookkeeper and office manager. She was a member of Central Church of Christ. She married A.L. Wilson in 1938 at Hollis. He died in 1988. Survivors include a son, Ken Wilson of Amarillo; a daughter, Paula Zen Colley of Amarillo; three sisters, Paula Scott of Amarillo, Opal I. Mrs. Vanzant was born in Indiahoma, Okla. and attended schools in Quay, N.M. She was a longtime resident of Albuquerque, N.M., where she was active in Assembly of God churches. She was the New Mexico Women's Ministries president and coordinator, coordinator for Missionettes and a Sunday school teacher and children's worker. Mrs. Vanzant and her husband ministered together in Assembly of God churches throughout New Mexico for 67 years. She married Earl G. Vanzant in 1927 at Tucumcari, N.M. He died in November. She was a member of West Fullerton Baptist Church and Pickin' Over 50 group. She married Earl Velder "Sleepy" Peters in 1932 in Lovington, N.M. He died in 1993. Ebert Alton Ashby KUWAIT CITY, Kuwait - Ebert Alton Ashby, 65, formerly of Dalhart, died Saturday, Nov. 15, 1997. Cremation and ceremonies were held in Houston. Dr. Ashby was born in Dalhart. He studied and taught at West Texas State University before earning his doctorate in physiology from the University of Texas at Austin. He taught at Southwestern Medical School in Dallas and Florida State University. He worked for the National Science Foundation for many years where he designed and implemented science programs for India and Japan. He continued working for the NSF in Taiwan and later in Kuwait. She graduated from Dalhart High School and attended San Rafael Hospital School of Nursing in Trinidad, Colo. She did her post graduate work in Los Angeles County Hospital. In 1942, she entered the Army Nurse Corps as second lieutenant and was promoted to major. She served in Africa, Italy, France, and Germany where she received three Bronze Stars, a service award, and Presidential Citation. She also served in Tokyo. She returned to Dalhart in 1948 after her discharge and became active in civic affairs. She helped organize, and was first city secretary for, Dalhart Women's Bowling Association, served on Hartley County Fair Board, was a member of Business and Professional Women's Club, Beta Sigma Phi sorority, National Retired Army Nurses Association and St. Anthony's Catholic Church. She was chief nurse for Coon Memorial Nursing Home. Survivors include three sisters, Dorothy Sullivan and Lucille Gustin, both of Dalhart, and Beulah Anthony of Palmdale, Calif.; and two brothers, Chester Dulaney of Alamosa, Colo., and Dewitt Dulaney of Grandbury. He was employed in pipeline construction and plant construction by Cabot Corp. In 1932, he returned to Fort Worth to attend Texas Christian University. He then returned to Pampa in 1936. He worked for Cabot Corp. in Pampa and the Permian Basin area. Mr. McKean married Anne Elizabeth "Betty" Neely in 1939 at Tulsa. She died in 1978. Mr. McKean enlisted in the Marine Corps in 1942, serving in the Pacific in a Marine Aircraft Group. After being discharged in 1945, he entered the newspaper and advertising business in Odessa and Midland. He returned to Pampa in 1953 as manager of The Pampa Daily Spokesman. In 1955, he moved to Washington, D.C., where he was employed as a legislative assistant in both the U.S. House of Representatives and the Senate. He retired and returned to Pampa in 1978. Mr. McKean served on the Pampa Planning and Zoning Commission and assisted in organizing the Clean Pampa Inc. He attended First Presbyterian Church and was a member of the Pampa Rotary Club. Mr. McKean married Mary Ellen Davis in 1979 at Fort Worth. Survivors include his wife; and a sister, Mrs. D.A. Scrivner of Sugar Land. Burial was in Quanah Memorial Park by PriceJackson Funeral Home. Mrs. Swindell was born in Foard County. She attended several rural schools including Liberty School in southern Hardeman County. She was a graduate of Crowell High School. She married Reece Swindell in 1922 at Crowell. They made their home in the Marshall community, north of Quanah. In 1940, they moved to California, where Mrs. Swindell was employed for 23 years by Sears in Los Angeles and Sacramento. She returned to Quanah in 1969 after her retirement. She was a member of the Rebekah Society and the Century Study Club. She also was a member of First Baptist Church. Mrs. Swindell was preceded in death by her husband.
