Services will be at 2 p.m. today in N.S. Griggs & Sons Funeral Directors Pioneer Chapel, 2615 Paramount Blvd., with Charles Gibson, minister of Washington Avenue Christian Church, officiating. Burial will be in Llano Cemetery. Mrs. Carpenter was born in Clarendon. She married N.J. Carpenter in 1952 at Amarillo. She was an artistic whistler and retired from Santa Fe Railway in 1980 after working there for 44 years. She was a member of the Llano Estacado Daughters of the American Revolution, the Railroad Business Women and the Social Order of the Beauceants. She had attended Washington Avenue Christian Church for 40 years. She was preceded in death by her husband. Survivors include a son, Leland Carpenter of Amarillo; a daughter, Jan Carpenter of Dallas; a sister, Donna Clyde Arms of Pampa; and a brother, J.C. Wright of Roy City. The family requests memorials be to Boy Scouts of America; Vineyard Christian Fellowship, 4702 Saturn Road, Garland, Texas; or a favorite charity. Marion Hosman Marion Hosman, 80, died Sunday, Jan. 26, 1997. Cremation was by Memorial Park Crematory. Arrangements were by SchoolerGordon Funeral Directors, 5400 Bell St. Mrs. Hosman was born in Chicago and graduated from Knox College at Galesburg, Ill. She was the head of the history department at Houser Junior High School at Riverside for many years. She was a longtime member of the Riverside United Methodist Church and a member of Phi Mu sorority and the American Association of University Women. She married Roland Hosman in 1940 at Riverside, Ill. He died in 1987. Survivors include a daughter, Hope Weingart of Amarillo; a sister, Harriet Gilfillan of Overland Park, Kan; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Don Sanders Don Sanders, 57, of 511 LaRuth St., died Sunday, Jan. 26, 1997. Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Blackburn-Shaw Funeral Directors, Martin Road Chapel, 1505 Martin Road, with the Rev. Leonard Molone of Plainview officiating. Burial will be in Llano Cemetery. Mr. Sanders was born in Freer and had lived in Amarillo for 30 years. He owned and operated Sanders Satellite Systems. He was a Navy veteran and a Baptist. He married Sharon Moloney in 1961 at Clayton, N.M. Survivors include his wife; two sons, Gary Sanders and Allen Sanders, both of Amarillo; a sister, Louise Cambern of Trinity; two brothers, Lee Sanders of Sun City, Calif., and Ruel Sanders of Amarillo; and four grandchildren. The family will be at 511 LaRuth St. Robert Carl Hooten Robert Carl Hooten, 58, of 12601 Lane View Drive, died Sunday, Jan. 26, 1997. Mr. Hooten was born in Earth. He moved to Amarillo from Borger. He worked for Borger Printers and Publishers before moving to Amarillo. He then worked for Whitney Russell Printers for several years before purchasing San Jacinto Printing in 1967. He was a former member of Southwest Church of Christ. He married Vicki Slocum in 1980 at Amarillo. Survivors include his wife; four daughters, Terri Aduddell, Tammi Sims and Heather Gaut, all of Amarillo, and Debbie Ford of Searcy, Ark.; his mother, Zaylia Hooten of Amarillo; five brothers, Carliss Hooten, Perry Hooten and Sheldon Hooten, all of Amarillo, and Harvey Hooten and Harley Hooten, both of Albuquerque, N.M.; two sisters, Marie Brown and Vena Hooten, both of Amarillo; and four grandchildren. Ann Fern Burkett Ann Fern Burkett, 70, of 3447 Amherst Drive, died Sunday, Jan. 26, 1997. Burial will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery. Mrs. Burkett was born in Muskogee, Okla., and had lived in Amarillo for 40 years. She graduated from Muskogee High School and married Deak Lyne Burkett in 1946 at Eufaula, Okla. He died in 1988. She was a homemaker until 1982 and then began working at Amarillo Office Supply as a sales representative. She worked there until the time of her death. She was a Baptist. Survivors include a daughter, Susan Shankle of Amarillo; four sons, Mike Burkett, Randy Burkett and Jeff Burkett, all of Amarillo, and Adam Burkett of Atlantic City, N.J.; a sister, Geraldine Watkins of Las Vegas; a brother, Benny Wyrick of Washington; and 10 grandchildren. He currently was a truck driver for Powell Trucking of Tulsa, Okla. Christine Ogletree Scott Jolley Christine Ogletree Scott Jolley, 84, of Amarillo, a former Wellington resident, died Sunday, Jan. 26, 1997. Services will be at 3 p.m. Wednesday in the Church of Christ at Wellington with Glen Walton, minister of Bell Avenue Church of Christ in Amarillo, officiating. Burial will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in Ridgelawn Cemetery at Collinsville, Okla., with Shon Kendall officiating. Arrangements are by Adams Funeral Home of Wellington. Mrs. Jolley was born in Carter County, Okla. She moved with her family from Graham, Okla., to Collingsworth County in 1916. She attended school at Marella. She married Orville Scott in 1933 at Wellington. He died in 1971. She lived in the Tulsa, Okla., area from 1956 to 1971. She married Andy Jolley in 1972 at Las Vegas. He died in 1982. She lived in La Habra, Calif., from 1972 until moving to Amarillo in 1988. She operated her own restaurant for many years and was a member of Bell Avenue Church of Christ, the Order of the Eastern Star and the Daughters of the Nile. She also was a volunteer for Meal on Wheels for 14 years. Survivors include a sister, Trudie Peters of Wellington. The family requests memorials be to the American Cancer Society or the Shriners Hospital. Elsewhere Duane Markham NEW DEAL - Duane Markham, 72, died Sunday, Jan. 26, 1997. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in East Mound Cemetery at Matador with the Rev. Tim Winn, pastor of New Deal Baptist Church, and the Rev. Jimmy McGuire of Lubbock officiating. Arrangements are by Seigler Funeral Home of Matador. Mr. Markham was born in Athens, Ark. He moved to Motley County with his parents when he was 1 month old. He graduated from Matador High School and served in the Army during World War II. He lived in Matador and Fort Worth before moving to New Deal in 1973. He retired as a bus maintenance foreman for the New Deal schools. He also had operated a grocery store in New Deal. He was a member of the Baptist church and the Veterans of Foreign Wars. Survivors include three sisters, Dorothy Birchfield of Andrews, and Delora Medley and Vernell Nuss, both of Lubbock. Oklahoma Stella Dee Walker KEYES, Okla. - Stella Dee Walker, 81, died Friday, Jan. 24, 1997, at Walla Walla, Wash. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in Willowbar Cemetery with Jason Kearney officiating. Arrangements are by Cimarron Mortuary of Boise City. Mrs. Walker was born in Cimarron County. She was raised southeast of Keyes and attended a country school near Dee. She married William Thomas Walker in 1930. She lived in the El Reno area for many years and later moved to Walla Walla. While living in Walla Walla, she worked for the cannery and later at the Senior Citizens. Survivors include five sons, Bob Walker of Caney, Billy Walker of Killeen, Texas, Jack Walker of Springfield, Mo., Tom Walker of Seattle and Don Walker of Hermiston, Ore.; three daughters, Euleta Christopher and Edith Howsen, both of Altus, and Wyemia Walker of Yukon; a brother, R.W. "Pete" Fry of Keyes; a sister, Neva Sizemore of Keyes; 21 grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren. Ivan Kent Edgington BOISE CITY, Okla. - Ivan Kent Edgington, 39, died Friday, Jan. 24, 1997, at Oklahoma City. Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Good Shepherd Catholic Church with the Rev. Chuck Murphy officiating. Burial will be in Boise City Cemetery by Cimarron Mortuary. Mr. Edgington was born in Guymon and raised in Boise City. He graduated from Boise City High School and attended Southwestern University at Weatherford. He worked in Oklahoma City, Clinton and Weatherford as an emergency medical technician and an intermediate paramedic. He was a member of the Lady of Perpetual Help Cathedral at Oklahoma City. Survivors include his mother, Bea Edgington of Boise City; and a brother, Kenneth Edgington of Sand Springs. Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday in Smith Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be in Rosedale Cemetery at Ada. Mrs. Graham was born in Ada, Indian Territory. She was a school teacher before retiring. She was preceded in death by her husband, Joe Graham, in 1972. Survivors include three sons, David Graham of Enid, Joe Graham of Citrus Heights, Calif., and Billy Graham of Shreveport, La.; a daughter, Alice Ketcherside of Amarillo; four sisters; 11 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. New Mexico Robert A. Pool HOBBS, N.M. - Robert A. Pool, 58, died Saturday, Jan. 25, 1997. Services will be at 3 p.m. Wednesday in Highland Baptist Church with Tracy Roby, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Prairie Haven Memorial Park by Griffin Funeral Home Inc. Mr. Pool was born in Spur, Texas. He married Helen Vick in 1960. He served in the Navy from 1956 to 1962. He had lived in Hobbs for 32 years and was employed by Mississippi Potash Mines, formerly New Mexico Potash Mines, for 31 years. Survivors include two sons, Eric Pool of Las Cruces and Brian Keith Pool of Eunice; three daughters, Robbie Armstrong of Eunice, and Valerie Slate and Tonya Pool, both of Hobbs; and 18 grandchildren. Area Adelaida Q. Gonzales HEREFORD - Adelaida Q. Gonzales, 92, died Sunday, Jan. 26, 1997. Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. today in San Jose Catholic Church. Services will be at 3 p.m. Wednesday in San Jose Catholic Church with Jesse Guerrero officiating. Burial will be in St. Anthony's Cemetery by Rix Funeral Home. Mrs. Gonzales was born in Garrita, N.M., and had lived in Hereford for 56 years. She was a homemaker and a member of San Jose Catholic Church and the Guadalupana Society. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ramon Gonzales, in 1965; five daughters, Antonia Gonzales in 1974, Emilia Guerrero in 1994, Olivia Gonzales in 1949, Maria Gonzales in 1935 and Juanita Gonzales in 1945; and by a son, Max Gonzales in 1949. Survivors include four sons, Delfino Gonzales, Arturo Gonzales, Anselmo Gonzales and Severo Gonzales, all of Hereford; three daughters, Ramona Gonzales and Pauline Martinez, both of Hereford, and Mela Barela of Clovis. John J. McPhillips Sr. PAMPA - John J. "Jimmy" McPhillips Sr., 77, of Kerrville, a former Pampa resident, died Sunday, Jan. 26, 1997. Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors Colonial Chapel with Dr. R.L. Kirk, pastor of First United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery at Pampa. Mr. McPhillips was born in Shillingstone, England. He lived in Pampa from 1959 until 1965, moving from Conroe. He lived in Conroe until 1990 and then moved to Kerrville. He retired after 15 years as a welder for Chicago Bridge and Iron. He was an Army veteran of World War II, serving in the European Theater. He was a member of Veterans of Foreign War Post No. 4709 and the Disabled American Veterans Chapter and a life member of Elks Lodge No. 2584, all of Conroe. He also was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Pampa. He married Orin Mathis in 1959 at Pampa. Survivors include his wife; a son, John J. McPhillips Jr. of Conroe; two daughters, Clara Roic of Granada Hills, Calif., and Evelyn McCauley of Kerrville; two brothers, R.W. McPhillips Jr. of Fletcher, Okla. and Tommy McPhillips of Dickinson; three sisters, Winnie Evers of Lubbock, Pauline Watson of Pampa and Marjorie Storseth of Amarillo; six grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. She moved in a covered wagon from Springtown to Memphis in 1914. She married Clyde Dewey Lee in 1931 at Plaska. He died in 1977. She was a homemaker and a member of the Church of Christ. Survivors include two sons, Danny Lee of Memphis and Don Lee of Brighton, Colo.; a daughter, Sandra Vann of Tampa, Fla.; a brother, T.J. Lester SKELLYTOWN - Sam T. Lester, 87, died Monday, Jan. 27, 1997. He was a former resident of Wellington and had been a resident of Skellytown for 53 years, moving from Shamrock. He married Jackie Holton in 1936 at Wellington. He was a farmer and then became a plant operator for Cabot Corp., where he worked for 28 years before retiring in 1967. He was a member of Primitive Baptist Church of Borger. Survivors include his wife; two sons, Homer Lester of Pampa and Thomas Lester of Amarillo; two sisters, Joy Mills of Granbury and Nancy Riley of Waco; and six grandchildren. Hollis Bryan HALE CENTER - Hollis Bryan, 81, died Monday, Jan. 27, 1997. Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday in First Baptist Church with the Rev. Gene Meacham, pastor, and Silas Short of Post officiating. Burial will be in Hale Center Cemetery by Freeman Funeral Home. Mr. Bryan was born in Alvord. He moved from Alvord to Childress in 1923 and then moved to Hale Center in 1925. He graduated from Hale Center High School in 1934. He married Lorine Waggoner in 1940 at Clovis, N.M. He was a farmer and a member of the Hale Center Senior Citizens Association and First Baptist Church. Survivors include his wife; two sons, Douglas Bryan of Townsend, Ga., and Michael Bryan of Brownfield; and two grandchildren. Burial will be in the Garden of Love at Westlawn Memorial Park by Minton/Chatwell Funeral Directors. Mr. Bell was born in Mount Pleasant and had been a Borger resident since 1929. He retired as a generating plant manager for Southwestern Public Service after 40 years of service. He served in the Navy during World War II. He was a member of the Church of Christ and the ISOM Masonic Lodge No. 1242. He married Doris Pruitt in 1945 at Amarillo. Survivors include his wife; two sons, Gary Bell of Tyler and Mike Bell of Plainview; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. William Bell of Borger; and four grandchildren. Burial will be in Darrouzett Cemetery at Darrouzett by Good Samaritan Funeral Service of Booker. Mrs. Meller was born in Higgins. She was raised on a ranch near Higgins and attended Higgins High School. She married Vernon H. Meller in 1959 at Higgins. They lived in several places before moving to Colorado Springs, Colo., in 1970. They then moved to Perryton in 1980 and had lived there since. She was a sales clerk for various clothing stores before retiring in 1996. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Higgins. Survivors include her husband; a son, Rusty Meller of Perryton; a sister, Opal Davis of Canyon; and two grandchildren.
