She worked in the accounting department of the Amarillo Independent School District until her retirement. She was a member of First Christian Church, where she served as a deaconess, Mini Casa of Amarillo, Order of the Eastern Star, Jovaliers, and served as regional director of NAME. Additionally, she volunteered with Habitat for Humanity, the Help One Student to Succeed mentoring program, and she played the piano for the Merry Makers at The Canyons Retirement Community. Mrs. Luginbill married B.F. Luginbill Jr. in 1941 at Manhattan, Kan. He died in 1994. He married Doris Sweatt in 1957 at San Leandro, Calif. He worked as a veterinarian for 20 years before working for the U.S. Department of Agriculture in veterinary services for 16 years. He was a member of the Lebanon-Pacific Masonic Lodge No. 136 and had been a Mason for more than 50 years in San Francisco. Dr. Cohn also was a member of the Lions Club and the American Veterinarian Association. He worked with the American Cancer Society in cancer research and the Berkley School for the Blind, which provides seeing eye dogs. Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Desiree Cohn of Dallas and Roxanne Brewer of Tampa, Fla.; a sister-in-law, Olive Sweatt of Clovis; and six grandchildren. Ross Dunn officiating. Burial will be in Portales Cemetery. Mrs. Walton was born in Mission, Texas, and grew up in the Portales area, graduating from from high school in Rogers around 1920. She married J.R. "Jimmy'' Walton in 1936 at Portales. She worked for several years as a beautician at the Kirby Beauty Shop in Portales. The couple moved to California in 1940 and lived for many years in San Fernando. They moved back to Portales in 1976. Mrs. Walton was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and was a Past Worthy Matron. Survivors include her husband; a son, Ronald Robert Walton of Widbey Island, Wash.; a sister, Dixie Lowe of Hemet, Calif.; and two grandchildren. May McKinney PORTALES - May McKinney, 92, died Friday, Sept. 26, 1997. Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday in Mill Creek Cemetery at Sulphur, Okla., with Tom Byrd, Mrs. McKinney's nephew, officiating. Arrangements are by Clagg Funeral Home of Sulphur. Mrs. McKinney was born in Norman, Okla., and grew up in Drake, Okla., near Sulphur. She graduated from high school in 1926 at Mill Creek, Okla. She married Bill McKinney in 1926. The couple moved to Fort Sumner in 1930. He died in 1935. Mrs. McKinney began teaching second grade in Taiban in 1936 and transferred to Fort Sumner the following year. Mrs. McKinney earned a temporary teaching certificate by attending summer classes at Ada, Okla., and later at Eastern New Mexico College at Portales, where she later earned her college degree. She moved to Portales in 1948 and taught second grade at L.L. Brown Elementary School and R.M. James School. Mrs. McKinney retired in 1970. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star in Fort Sumner and the Retired Teachers Association. Survivors include a son, Noel McKinney of Fort Worth, Texas; a daughter, Willine Jones of Portales; four sisters, Onie Driver, Estelle Chaffin and Mozell Howe, all of Sulphur, and Nell Howe of Monticello, Ark.; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Clyde Leroy Graham, in 1996. She also was preceded in death by a grandchild. Elsewhere Horace L. Giles Horace L. "Lee'' Giles, 75, of Amarillo, died Thursday, Sept. 25, 1997, in Casper, Wyo. Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday in Blackburn-Shaw Memorial Chapel, Fifth Avenue and Pierce Street, with the Rev. Shad Rue officiating. Burial will be in Llano Cemetery. Mr. Giles was born in Amarillo and worked for the Burlington Northern Railroad for 30 years. After his retirement, he earned a bachelor's degree in education from West Texas State University and a master's degree from East Michigan University. He worked as a substitute teacher in Colorado, Texas and Arizona. Mr. Giles served in the 1st Marine Division in the South Pacific during World War II. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge and had received a 50-year service pin. Survivors include his wife of Casper; a daughter, Shirley Green of Casper; seven sisters, Estelle Ray and Joyce Cox, both of Amarillo, Pauline Hooper of Phoenix, Martha McBride of San Diego, Jenny Owens of Sun City, Ariz., Judy Avery of Plano and Sarah Brennenstuhl of Evergreen, Colo.; two brothers, C.L. Giles of Amarillo and Donald Giles of Colorado Springs, Colo.; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. The family suggests memorials be to the Shepherd of the Valley Care Center or Maurice Griffith Manor, both in Casper. Ray Sparks MUNDAY - Ray Sparks, 75, died Friday, Sept. 26, 1997, in Knox City. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Monday in Johnson Memorial Cemetery with the Rev. Forrest Mann officiating. Arrangements are by McCauley-Smith Funeral Home. Mr. Sparks was born in Winnsboro and moved to Munday from Lubbock in August. He had worked as a night watchman. Mr. Sparks was a member of the Church of Christ. Survivors include a sister, June Blake of Goree; and two brothers, Dan Sparks and D.R. "Buddy'' Sparks, both of Abilene.
