Mrs. Brown was born in Linden, Cass County. She moved to Memphis in 1977. She was a Baptist. Her husband, Bill Brown, died in 1980. She also was preceded in death by a son, Kenneth Wesson, in 1988; and a daughter, Sue Ayers, in 1988. Survivors include a granddaughter, Carla Sue Harris of Tecumseh, Okla.; two grandsons, Gregory Ayers of Amarillo and Mike Ayers of Albuquerque, N.M.; two sisters, Opal Clayton of Memphis and Barbara Smith of Albuquerque; and a great-grandchild. Mrs. Davis was born in Kiev, Ukraine, and moved here in 1993 from Estonia, Baltic Sea. She was a chemist for Engineered Carbons. She received her doctorate degree from St. Petersburg in Russia. Survivors include a son, Oleg Shitsel of Borger; and her mother, Galina Avramenko of Estonia. Vera Howard MEMPHIS - Vera Howard, 91, died Wednesday, July 23, 1997. Mrs. Castaneda was born in San Antonio. She moved to Dimmitt in 1954 from Plainview. She was a homemaker and a Catholic. She married Francisco Castaneda in Hidalgo. He died in 1992. Castaneda of Hereford; three daughters, Francis Dominguez and Israela Castaneda, both of Dimmitt, and Cleotilde Rodriquez, of House, N.M.; a sister, Teodora Diaz of Maryland; 17 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. He retired as a mechanic for Phillips Philtex Plant. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the South Pacific with the Army Air Corps Medical Airvac Squadron. Mr. Smith was a member and deacon at Central Baptist Church. He also was a member of American Legion Post No. 671. He was president of the High Plains Helping Hand and a volunteer for Meals on Wheels. He married Mary Derr in 1942 at Altus, Okla. Survivors include his wife. Jose Luis Salazar Jr. SPEARMAN - Jose Luis Salazar Jr., 27, died Saturday, July 26, 1997. Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Cristo Redentor Catholic Church with the Rev. Scott Raef officiating. Burial will be in Gruver Cemetery by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Home. Mr. Salazar was born in San Angel, Mexico. He had lived in the Spearman area for 17 years. He married Clara Borunda in 1992 at Chihuahua, Mexico. Mr. Salazar was a cowboy for Caprock Feedlot. Oklahoma Guadalupe Maria Gallegos MILL CREEK, Okla. - Guadalupe Maria Gallegos, 88, a former longtime Guymon resident, died Saturday, July 26, 1997, in Ardmore. Services will be at 10 a.m. today in Bunch-Roberts Funeral Home Chapel with Jim Weis of Guymon Kingdom Hall officiating. Burial will be in Elmhurst Cemetery. Mrs. Gallegos was born in Maes, N.M. She was a homemaker and an active member of the Guymon Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses. She married Adolfo Gallegos in 1928 at Maes. They moved to Guymon in 1971 from Las Vegas, N.M. Mr. Gallegos died in 1988. Mrs. Gallegos also was preceded in death by a son, David, in 1965. She moved from Guymon to Mill Creek in 1991. Survivors include two sons, Elifonso Gallegos of Mill Creek and Gene Gallegos of Guymon; five daughters, Veronica Hernandez of Liberal, Kan., Cristina Barela, Francis Gutierrez and Mary Padilla, all of Guymon, and Grace Hedrick of Stillwater; 14 grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren. Canyon Eugene W. Einspahr Eugene "Tiny'' W. Einspahr, 60, of Canyon, died Monday, July 21, 1997. Services were at 10:30 a.m. Friday in St. Paul Lutheran Church at Venango, Neb., with the Rev. Harold Rathjen officiating. Burial was in Holyoke Memorial Park by Tennant-Thompson Funeral Home of Holyoke, Colo. Mr. Einspahr was born in Haxtun, Colo. He lived in Sedgwick County most of his life. He attended grade school at District 3 and graduated from Holyoke High School in 1955. He married Helen McCannon in 1975. They were divorced in 1989. Mr. Einspahr had lived the last few years of his life in Hereford and Canyon. Survivors include a sister, Gloria Beckius of Holyoke; and a special friend, Helen Einspahr. Amarillo Jim Morland Jim Morland, 63, of Amarillo, died Sunday, July 27, 1997. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. today in Llano Cemetery with the Rev. Gil Hiltbrunner of Trinity Fellowship Church officiating. Arrangements are by Schooler-Gordon Funeral Directors, 5400 Bell St. Mr. Morland was born in Haskell and moved to Amarillo in 1956. He drove trucks for Atlas Van Lines and Kitter Corp. before retiring in 1987. He married Sharon Hodges in 1967 at Clovis, N.M. He was a member of the Moose Lodge No. 1361. Mr. Morland was preceded in death by a son, Richard Morland, in 1987; and a daughter, Virginia Gale Altermott, in 1974. Survivors include four sons, Jared Morland and Frank Altermott, both of Amarillo, and Terry Altermott and Glen Altermott, both of California; eight sisters, Gilika Montgomery and Pearl Baskin, both of Amarillo, Bobbie Hines of Wichita Falls, Carolyn Biber, Donna Matney of Vernon, Jimmie Redman of California, Virginia Roherty of Santa Fe, N.M., and Evelyn Stafford of Fort Worth; a brother, Roger Redman; and a granddaughter. The body will not be available for viewing. Emmett Theodore Schoen Emmett Theodore Schoen, 91, of Amarillo, died Sunday, July 27, 1997. Services will be at 2 p.m. today in BlackburnShaw Funeral Directors, Memorial Chapel, Fifth Avenue and Pierce Street, with Chester O'Brien of First Baptist Church officiating. Burial will be in Llano Cemetery. Mr. Schoen was born in Des Moines, Iowa. He worked for the state of Iowa until joining the Air Corps in 1941. He moved to Amarillo and served at Amarillo Air Force Base until the end of World War II. He then joined Westinghouse Electric Supply Co., where he worked as the warehouse manager until retiring in 1970. His first wife, Erma Sponsler, died in 1947. He married Marion Barnes in 1949. She died in 1988. Mr. Schoen served as an usher and deacon at First Baptist Church and drove the church bus bringing southeast Asian immigrants to the church for English language lessons. After retirement, he did volunteer work at High Plains Hospital for more than 15 years. Survivors include a son, Gerald Schoen of Marietta, Ga.; and three grandchildren. The family suggests memorials in lieu of flowers be to the Olive Melin Scholarship Fund at Amarillo College. Glen B. Gibson Glen B. Gibson, 66, of Amarillo, died Saturday, July 26, 1997. Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Paramount Terrace Christian Church with the Rev. Roy Wheeler, pastor, and the Rev. Bob Murphy, senior minister, officiating. Private burial will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2820 Virginia Circle. Mr. Gibson was born in Kiowa, Okla., and had lived in Amarillo since 1949. He was a salesman for Standard Printing. He was past city commissioner, serving from 1968 to 1969. He was a member and elder at Paramount Terrace Christian Church. Mr. Gibson was a member of the Lone Star Lions Club and a former member of the Amarillo Advertising Club. He received the Melvin Jones Fellow Award from the Lions International Foundation. He also was a volunteer for Meals on Wheels. He married Virginia L. McCracken in 1950 at Amarillo. Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Pam Jones and Debbie Haag, both of Amarillo; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Wilma Landry Wilma Landry, 56, of Amarillo, died Sunday, July 27, 1997. Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Memorial Park Funeral Home Chapel of Memories, 6969 E. Interstate 40. Mrs. Landry was born in Glasgow, Scotland. She moved to Amarillo in 1984 from Connecticut. She married John Landry in 1965 at Dunoon, Scotland. Mrs. Landry was employed by Miller International Printing. She was a member of the ladies auxiliary of Fleet Reserve Organization Branch No. 252. Survivors include her husband; three sons, Paul Landry and Edward Landry, both of Amarillo, and Gary Landry of Pittsburgh; a daughter, Virginia Nowak of Amarillo; and seven grandchildren. Survivors include four daughters, Peggy Batchelor, Leanne McAlpine, Randi Flegel and Cindy Struchen, all of Amarillo; two sons, Tim McAlpine and Steve McAlpine, both of Amarillo; and 14 grandchildren. Lillian Anne Leaird Hudspeth Lillian Anne Leaird Hudspeth, 77, of Amarillo, died Saturday, July 19, 1997. Graveside services were Monday in Greenhill Cemetery at Muskogee, Okla. Arrangements were by N.S. Griggs & Sons Funeral Directors, 2615 Paramount Blvd. Mrs. Hudspeth was born in Muskogee. She married W.R. Hudspeth in 1938. They moved to Amarillo in 1948. Mrs. Hudspeth was an Amarillo businesswoman for many years, owning and operating several local clothing and gift boutiques. She was a member of the Episcopal church. Survivors include a son, Gary Hudspeth of Amarillo; two daughters, Diann Bunnell of Garden City, Kan., and Lisa Giesey of Friendswood; five grandchildren; and a great-grandchild. Barbara Fowler Schell Barbara Fowler Schell, 68, of 7906 Deshazo Place, died Sunday, July 27, 1997. Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Westminster Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Howard Childers of the church and the Rev. Ron Holmes officiating. Mrs. Schell was born in Knox City and had been a lifetime Amarillo resident. She married William J. Schell in 1953 at Amarillo. She was a graduate of Amarillo College and the University of Texas at Austin. She was a school teacher and a coordinator for the civil service. She was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church. Survivors include her husband; two sons, Andrew Schell of Oakland, Calif., and John Schell of Conroe; her mother, Bertha Klipstine of Amarillo; three sisters, Florene Fletcher and Lola Binzegger, both of Amarillo, and Carolyn Evans of Angel Fire, N.M.; a stepbrother, James Klipstine of Hobbs, N.M.; a stepsister, Alice Cobb of Beaverton, Ore.; and five grandchildren. She was a homemaker and a member of Shallowater First United Methodist Church. She married Harry C. Leonard Sr. in 1952. He died in 1996. Survivors include a daughter, Kendra Leonard of Shallowater; two sons, Harry C. Leonard Jr. of Lubbock and Chad Anthony Austin of San Antonio; two brothers, Tom Harper of Canyon and William Harper of Tulsa, Okla.; and two granddaughters. The family suggests memorials be to the American Cancer Society. Karen Spurgeon McCarthy DALLAS - Karen Spurgeon McCarthy, 45, died Sunday, July 27, 1997. Arrangements are by Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Inc. of McKinney. Mrs. McCarthy was born in Amarillo. She graduated from Tascosa High School in Amarillo in 1970. She received a bachelor of science degree in fashion merchandising from Texas Christian University in 1974. She served as president of the Dallas Alumnae of Chi Omega, the University Park School PTA and the University Park United Methodist Church UMW. She was communications vice president and executive committee board member of the Junior League of Dallas. Mrs. McCarthy also was a board member of the Senior Citizens of Greater Dallas, the Highland Park High School PTA and the Shelton Parents Council. She was a past board member of Dallas Challenge and a past chairperson of the Chi Omega Christmas Market and the Senior Citizens Craft Fair. She was named Outstanding Chi Omega of the Year in 1995. She was an active member of University Park United Methodist Church. Survivors include her husband, John F. McCarthy Jr.; a daughter, Mary Margaret McCarthy of Dallas; a son, Benjamin John McCarthy of Dallas; her father, William Harley Spurgeon of Amarillo; a sister, Jan Moore of Dallas. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery by Crews Funeral Home. Mrs. McClure was born in Apache. She married Howard L. McClure in 1939 at Apache. He died in 1982. She was a licensed practical nurse before retiring in 1982. She was a member of Bethel Pentecostal Holiness Church of Apache. Mrs. McClure moved to Fort Worth from Oklahoma City 21/2 years ago. Survivors include two sons, G.F. "Buster'' McClure of Amarillo and the Rev. Howard "Sonny'' McClure of Moore; two daughters, Pat Wilkerson of Okinawa, Japan, and Betty Harding of Fort Worth; three brothers, Tony Crow of Oklahoma City, "T-Bone'' Crow of Farmington, N.M., and Sonny Summerville of Amarillo; two sisters, May Summerville of Amarillo and Betty Davis of Oklahoma City; 10 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
