Horton FRIONA - Kenneth W. Horton, 68, died Friday, June 27, 1997, in Amarillo. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Monday in Elida Cemetery with Randi Burkhart, along with other family members, officiating. Arrangements are by Wheeler Mortuary of Portales, N.M. Mr. Horton was born in Pleasant Hill, N.M. His years as a boy were spent in the Hub community in West Texas. Later, the family moved to Friona, and then when he was a teen-ager, they moved to Bovina. In 1944 or 1945, he went to work on the Jersick Ranch as a cowboy. In the late 1950s, he moved his family to Farmington, N.M., where he worked as a truck driver. He moved to Albuquerque, N.M., in the early 1960s and continued to drive trucks until 1974, when he moved back to Friona, where he was living at the time of his death. He married Madge Burkart in 1974 at Bernalillo, N.M. She died in 1991. Survivors include nine sons, Roger Horton of Kirtland, N.M., Dwayne Horton of Bloomfield, N.M., Wendel Shank of Farmington, N.M., Kenneth Horton Jr. and Shawn Horton, both of Las Lunas, N.M., Roger Bachman of Denver, Rodney Bachman of Garden City, Kan., Chris Burkart of Clovis, N.M., and Randi Burkart of Arnett, Okla.; three daughters, Belinda Burks of Las Lunas, N.M., Linda Madera of Clovis, N.M., and Michelle Gleason of Vacaville, Calif.; a brother, Billy Ray Horton of Lamesa; a sister, Hazel Stowers of Friona; 31 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. Robert Clarence Chapman CHILDRESS - Robert Clarence Chapman, 81, died Saturday, June 28, 1997. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Monday in Childress Cemetery with the Rev. Lane, chaplain of Crown of Texas Hospice in Plainview, and Mrs. Reddin officiating. Arrangements are by Johnson Funeral Home of Childress. Mr. Chapman was born in Denton. He was a retired farmer and truck driver for the U.S. Postal Service, where he had worked for 20 years. Survivors include his wife, Jessie Bell Chapman; a son, Gene Chapman of Childress; a daughter, Lorene Moyers of Childress; three sisters, Peggy Leeder of Alanreed, Bessie Shaw and Inez Snider, both of Waxahachie; three grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Doris Ann Rusk WHEELER - Doris Ann Rusk, 88, died Friday, June 27, 1997. A private family service will be held at a later date. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2820 Virginia Circle, in Amarillo. Mrs. Rusk was born in Colville, Wash. She had been a resident of Wheeler for 17 years, moving from Amarillo, where she had lived for 60 years. She was a music teacher and a homemaker. She was a member of the Texas Music Teachers Association and First Christian Church in Amarillo. She married Paul Clifton Rusk in 1926 at Pampa. He died in 1967. She was preceded in death by a son, Norman Brent Rusk, in 1997. Survivors include a son, Brian Rusk of Amarillo; a brother, Richard Gilliland of Oklahoma City; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Ramon Rosales Andrade HEREFORD - Ramon Rosales Andrade, 56, died Friday, June 27, 1997, in Amarillo. Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. today in Parkside Chapel. Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Monday in San Jose Catholic Church with Father Domingo Castillo officiating. Mr. Andrade was born in San Benito. He retired after working as a barber for more than 30 years in Hereford. He was a member of San Jose Catholic Church. He married Maria Gonzalez in 1962 at Hereford. He was preceded in death by a son, Blas Guadalupe. Survivors include his wife; four sons, Raymond Andrade Jr. of San Antonio, Agapito Andrade of Olathe, Kan., Jesse Andrade and Noel Andrade, both of Hereford; two daughters, Valorie Lopez of Amarillo and San Juanita Ramirez of Hereford; a brother, Augustine Andrade of San Benito; two sisters, Rosa Lozano of Hereford, and Juanita Maldonado of San Benito; and 21 grandchildren. J.R. Hancock PLAINVIEW - J.R. Hancock, 68, died Saturday, June 28, 1997. Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Southside Assembly of God Church with the Rev. R.T. Havener, pastor, and James Jones officiating. Burial will be at Plainview Memorial Park. Arrangements are by Lemons Funeral Home. Mr. Hancock was born in Wingate. He grew up in Wingate and Abilene. He graduated from Wiley High School. He joined the Navy in 1945. In 1949, he was discharged from the Navy and returned to Abilene. He married Dorothy Webster in 1950 at Abilene. He moved to Dodge City, Kan., in 1951 and worked at W.W. Manufacturing Co. He served again in the Navy during the Korean conflict from 1951 to 1952. He moved from Tulia to Plainview in 1954. He was the co-owner and operator of Hi Plains Pipeline until 1970. From 1970 to 1990, he was a driver for W.W. Manufacturing Co., W.R. Grace and Company and Steere Tanker Lines. He retired in 1990. He had coached Little League Baseball for a number of years. He was a member of South Side Assembly of God Church. Arrangements are by Brooks Funeral Directors of Canyon. Mr. Munn was born in Albuquerque, N.M. He was raised in Las Cruces and graduated from Las Cruces High School. He attended the University of New Mexico at Albuquerque for two years. He was an artist and a veteran of the Navy. Survivors include his mother, Maureen M. Poole of Amarillo; and a sister, Nancy Munn Greene of Canyon. Teresa Kim Nielsen SAN ANGELO - Teresa "Terri'' Kim Nielsen, 36, died Thursday, June 26, 1997. Services were at 3:30 p.m. Saturday in Johnson's Funeral Home with the Rev. Bob Boggess officiating. Burial was in Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens. Ms. Nielsen was born in Groom. After high school graduation in Littlefield, she worked at newspapers in Lamb County and in Levelland. She later served as editor of Anton's Weekly Newspaper. While working at the Abilene Reporter-News as a compositor, she continued her writing at home, producing numerous poems, novels and short stories. She was a volunteer at the Abilene Zoo as a tour guide. She was also a member of the Humane Society in Abilene. She moved to San Angelo in 1989, transferring to the San Angelo StandardTimes, where she continued working until her illness. She was a member of Harriett Baptist Church. Survivors include her parents, Roger and Oveta Nielsen of San Angelo and Trent and Willa Bolin of Texhoma, Okla.; a sister, Vivian Drullard of Vernon, Fla.; three brothers, Randy of Seminole, Kevin of San Angelo, and Darrell of Lubbock; and grandparents Clarence Garman of Clarendon and Mr. and Mrs. Rusty Nichols of Portland, Ore. Arrangements are by Navarre Funeral Home of Baytown. Mr. Ayers was born in Clarendon. He had been a resident of Crosby since 1970. He was an electrician. Visitation will be today at the funeral home. New Mexico Mamie Beevers CLOVIS, N.M. - Mamie Beevers, 84, died Friday, June 27, 1997. Graveside services will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday in Tucumcari Memorial Park Cemetery. Burial will be in the family plot at the cemetery. Arrangements are by Dunn Funeral Home in Tucumcari. Mrs. Beevers was born in Fullerton, Calif. She had been a lifetime resident of New Mexico. She lived for a number of years in the Logan area, and for many years in Tucumcari, before moving to Clovis some years ago. Survivors include a son, Leroy Barton of Alvarado, Texas; a brother, Jim Jones of Albuquerque; two sisters, Lois White of Grady, and Allie Hoyt of Groom, Texas; two grandsons; and 10 great-grandchildren. The body will be available for viewing until noon Monday at the funeral home. Jennie N. Petty CLOVIS, N.M. - Jennie N. Petty, 84, died Friday, June 27, 1997. Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday in First Church of the Nazarene with Ed Abla, pastor, officiating. Burial will be at Lawn Haven Memorial Gardens. Arrangements are by Steed-Todd Funeral Home. Mrs. Petty was born in Estacada, Lubbock County, Texas. She was active in the Church of the Nazarene, working in the church nursery for 40 years and was responsible for the tape ministry, library and bookstore in the local church. She married R.M. "Pat'' Petty in 1929 at Portales. He died died in 1976. They moved to Clovis in 1938. She and her husband built numerous churches in the Southwest, and many of the buildings on the Nazarene District Campground near Ruidoso. Survivors include two daughters, Margaret Pershall and JoAnne Paul, both of Clovis; two sons, David and Richard, both of Clovis; a brother, Hoyet Brown of Clovis; a sister, Betty Maberry of Portales; nine grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren. She was a resident of Melrose and Vaughn, prior to moving to Clovis. She had worked as a beautician in Clovis since 1947. She was a member of Central Baptist Church. Survivors include four sons, Jack Browning and Jerry Stone, both of Clovis, Jim Stone of Rio Rancho and Ronnie Mason of Texas City, Texas; a sister, Mildred Walton of Farwell, Texas; a brother, O.L. Mrs. Leal was born in Hidalgo County. She married Andres Leal in 1942 at Lake Village, Ark. She moved to Deaf Smith County in 1966 from Mercedes. She was a homemaker and a Catholic. Survivors include her husband of Clovis, N.M.; four sons, Andres Leal Jr. and Daniel Leal, both of Hereford, and Margurito Leal and Santiago Leal, both of Clovis; three daughters, Lydia Garza and Modesta Leal, both of Clovis, and Barbara Guerra of Hereford; 22 grandchildren; and 28 great-grandchildren. Jerry Joe Cobb PAMPA - Jerry Joe Cobb, 49, died Thursday, June 26, 1997. Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday in Central Baptist Church with the Rev. Norman Rushing, pastor of First Baptist Church of Jacksboro, and the Rev. Rick Parnell, associate pastor of Central Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery by Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors. Mr. Cobb was born in Pampa. He was a 1967 graduate of Central High School in Tulsa, Okla. He attended Amarillo College. He married Bernice White in 1973 at Pampa. Mr. Cobb had been a rural mail carrier for the U.S. Postal Service for the past 12 years. He was a member of Central Baptist Church and the Texas Rural Letter Carriers Association. He was an Army veteran of the Vietnam War. Survivors include his wife; a son, Micah Cobb of Pampa; a daughter, Erin Cobb of Pampa; his mother, Laurene Walker of Tulsa; two brothers, Marlin Cobb of Sadler and Robert Cobb of Houston; and a sister, Patsy Cox of Bonita Springs, Fla. Lange TULIA - Albert Francis Lange, 75, died Friday, June 27, 1997. Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday in Tulia Christian Fellowship Church with the Rev. Rusty Gray, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery by Wallace Funeral Home. Mr. Lange was born in Nazareth. He was raised in Happy and attended school there. He was an Army sergeant in the armored tank division during World War II. He married Lillie Puslevitz in 1954 at Amarillo. Mr. Lange moved to Vigo Park in 1954 and farmed there for 35 years. He moved to Tulia in 1974. He was a dispatcher for Swisher Electric for 12 years. He was a member of Tulia Christian Fellowship Church, the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion. Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Christine Lucero of Fort Worth; a son, Andrew Lange of Odessa; five sisters, Mary Johnson, Imelda Wesley and Edith Irlbeck, all of Tulia, Sister Rose Lange of Bentonville, Ark., and Sister Clara Lange of San Antonio; three grandchildren; and a great-grandchild. James Ewell McLaughlin CANADIAN - James Ewell McLaughlin, 66, died Friday, June 27, 1997. Mr. McLaughlin was born in Nocona. He lived in Velma, Okla., from 1989 until moving to Canadian in January. He served two tours of duty in Korea with the Army. While in the service, he received the Combat Infantry Badge, the United Nations Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal and the Korean Service Medal with two bronze service stars. Mr. McLaughlin worked as a derrick hand in the oil field. He was preceded in death by his wife, Floydene Welch, in 1988. Survivors include three sons, James McLaughlin Jr. of Canadian, Jessie McLaughlin of Electra and Jerry McLaughlin of Copperas Cove; two sisters; and a grandson. She married Dillard Clifton "Dick'' Bayless in 1943 at Pampa. He died in 1996. Arrangements are by Hass Funeral Home, Inc., of Dalhart. Mr. Heard was born in Russell County, Kan. He had moved with his family to Kismet, Kan., at the age of 9. He was a machinist and farmer. He moved to Dalhart in the early 1940s, and was machinist foreman at the Dalhart Air Base during the war. He married Alma Jacks in 1946 at Dalhart. They owned and operated Dalhart Machine Shop for many years. He was a member of the Dalhart Masonic Lodge and received his 50-year pin in 1993. He had served on the city council for more than 12 years, and was a member of First Baptist Church. Survivors include a son, Tom Heard of Dalhart; a sister, Elizabeth Sheldon of Pritchett, Colo.; and a nephew. Fae Elliott QUITAQUE - Tennie Fae Elliot, 75, of Lubbock, died Saturday, June 28, 1997. Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday in First United Methodist Church at Quitaque with John Burk, minister of Lakeridge United Methodist Church in Lubbock, officiating. She moved to Lubbock three years ago, moving from Quitaque, where she was a lifetime resident. She was a member of Lakeridge United Methodist Church of Lubbock, and the Order of the Eastern Star in Quitaque. She married Virgil Elliott in 1943 at Amarillo. He died in 1993. Survivors include a daughter, Jerry Card of Lubbock; three sisters, Georgia Tyler and Loraine Fellers, both of Amarillo, and Marie Moore of Myers Flat, Calif.; three brothers, Thurston Gilcrease of Chicago, John Gilcrease of Redding, Calif., and Arnold Gilcrease of San Angelo; and a grandson. Olen C. Cook CLAUDE - Olen C. Cook, 91, died Saturday, June 28, 1997, in Amarillo. Mr. Cook was born in Whitt, Parker County. He came to Donley County in 1918, then to Claude in 1942. He had been a farmer most of his life and was a member of Claude Church of Christ. He married Lois Flossie Webb in 1929 at Hollis, Okla. She died in 1982. He was preceded in death by a son, Crowell Cook, in 1940. He was a truck driver and a member of the Church of Christ. He was a veteran of the Marine Corps. He worked as a truck driver for Maxus Shamrock of Sunray. He married Lucille Robinett in 1957 at Sunray. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Kelly Kay Cripps, in 1986. Survivors include his wife; a son, Stephen Anthony Cripps of Colorado Springs, Colo.; a daughter, Pamela Suzette Haskins of Central, Alaska; two brothers, Bob Cripps of Sunray, and Virgil Cripps of Sanford. The family will be at 112 N. Avenue N in Sunray. Nancy Marie Field SPRINGLAKE - Nancy Marie Field, 46, died Thursday, June 26, 1997. Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday in First Baptist Church with the Rev. Scott Riling, pastor of Pecan Grove Baptist Church in Richmond, and Denny Sneed, pastor of Church of Christ in Earth, officiating. Burial will be at Springlake Cemetery. Arrangements are by Foskey-LilleyMcGill Funeral Home of Olton. Mrs. Field was born in Salina, Kan. She moved to Springlake in 1974, moving from Clovis, N.M. She was a secretary for Bridges Feedyard. She married Arden Field in 1974 at Clovis, N.M. Survivors include her husband; a son, A.J. Field of Springlake; three daughters, Tami Herriage of Sunnyside, Christi Quinn of Fort Sumner, N.M., and Kim Field of Canyon; three brothers, Bill Moore Jr. of Castle Rock, Colo., Richard Moore of Como, Colo., and Brent Moore of Washington, D.C.; her father and stepmother, Bill and Charlotte Moore of Denver; and four grandchildren. The family requests memorials be to the American Cancer Society.
