Vigil prayer service was at 7 p.m. Wednesday in St. Hyacinth Church. Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. today in St. Hyacinth by Bishop John Yanta, retired Bishop Leroy T. Matthiesen and the Rev. Bert Horvath. Burial will be in Llano Cemetery by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2820 Virginia Circle. Sister Messmer was born in KonstanzStaad, Germany. She entered the convent at Wartensee, Switzerland, in 1936 and came to the United States during her training as a novice. She professed her vows as a Franciscan in Amarillo in 1938. She was a member of the St. Francis Mission Sisters. She received her bachelor of art degree in education from Our Lady of the Lake College at San Antonio and later earned her California State credentials for elementary education. As a nun, she ministered as an elementary school teacher for 45 years in Dixon, N.M.; Los Angeles; Long Beach, Calif.; and Hereford. After retiring from teaching, Sister Messmer served in San Lorenzo Mission near Ramah, N.M., where she taught religion to the Navajo and helped in the church sacristy and later in the San Francisco Parish at Juarez, Mexico. During the last few years of her life, she lived with her religious community in Amarillo and was a member of St. Hyacinth Catholic Church. Survivors include a sister, Ida Messmer, and a brother, Konrad Messmer, both of Konstanz. Tryna Shavette Owens Tryna Shavette Owens, 7, of Amarillo, died Monday, May 26, 1997, at Springfield, Colo. Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. today in Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors Ivy Chapel, 2820 Virginia Circle. Tryna was born in Amarillo and was a student at South Lawn Elementary School. She attended San Jacinto United Methodist Church. Survivors include her parents, Marilee Jo Phelan and Robert Ward of Springfield; a brother, Ralph Owens of Springfield; two sisters, Shara Owens of Springfield and Hersha Henderson of Amarillo; and grandmothers, Earnest Lee Wilson and Gloria Horn, both of Amarillo. The family will be at 400 S. Kentucky St., Apt. B. Alice M. Salamy Alice M. Salamy, 86, of Amarillo, died Wednesday, May 28, 1997. Trisagion prayer service was at 7 p.m. Wednesday in Schooler Funeral Home, Brentwood Chapel, 4100 S. Georgia St. Services will be at 9:30 a.m. today in St. John Eastern Orthodox Church with the Rev. Dan Suciu officiating. Burial will be at 3 p.m. in Waynoka Cemetery at Waynoka, Okla. Mrs. Salamy was born in Waynoka and had lived in Amarillo since 1933. She married S.F. Salamy in 1933. They operated the Texas Wholesale Grocery from 1933 until 1939. She operated Alice's Linen Shop on Polk Street in 1937 and had been a real estate broker since 1959. She was a member of St. John Eastern Orthodox Church. She was an artist and a member of the Amarillo Fine Arts Association. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1954. Survivors include a son, Fred Salamy of Amarillo; and a brother, John Coury of Oklahoma City. The family suggests memorials to St. John Eastern Orthodox Church, 1101 Bell St., Amarillo, Texas 79106. The Rev. Cornelius Taylor The Rev. Cornelius Taylor, 78, of Amarillo, died Saturday, May 24, 1997. Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday in Carter Chapel Primitive Baptist Church with the Rev. Elgie Crow, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Llano Cemetery by Warford-Walker Mortuary Inc., 509 N. Hughes St. Rev. Taylor was born and raised in Oakwood and attended public school there. He moved to Shamrock in 1941 and later to Amarillo. He was a veteran of World War II and a minister at Primitive Baptist Church. He worked in construction with Gifford Hill Western. He was preceded in death by his wife, Thelma Taylor. Survivors include a son, Cornelius Taylor of Amarillo; two brothers, Lewis Green and L.V. Green, both of Albuquerque, N.M.; two sisters, Fannie Mae Batties of Long Beach, Calif., and Maggie Lee England of Blooming Grove; and eight grandchildren. The family will be at 3124 Palm St. Dale Wesley Trook Dale Wesley Trook, 74, of Amarillo, died Tuesday, May 27, 1997. Burial will be in Llano Cemetery. Mr. Trook was born in Litchfield, Neb., and had lived in Amarillo since 1946. From 1952 until the present, he was the owner and operator of Trook Cabinet Co. He coached RA ball, YMCA ball and Kids, Inc. He was a member of Second Baptist Church and served as a deacon, a Sunday school teacher and a member of the church choir. He also was a volunteer for Meals on Wheels. He married Elsie Irene Blewett in 1943 at Amarillo. Survivors include his wife; three sons, Robert Michael Trook, Gary Dale Trook and Dennis Jackson Trook, all of Amarillo; a sister, Eva Irene Mendenhall of Bakersfield, Calif.; three brothers, Victor Otis Trook of Denver, Derrill Merton Trook of Lincoln, Neb., and Alfred Nelson Trook of Weeping Water, Neb.; 13 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Hines, 84, of Amarillo, died Wednesday, May 28, 1997. Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday in First Assembly of God Church with the Rev. Wayne Reid of the church officiating. Ms. Hines was born in Cass County and had lived in Amarillo for 10 years. She was a homemaker and a member of First Assembly of God Church. She was preceded in death by a son, Jimmie Hines, in 1972. Survivors include a daughter, Cheryl Cordero of Las Cruces, N.M.; four sons, Mike Hines and Donald Hines, both of Amarillo, Gary Hines of Fort Smith, Ark., and Glendon Hines of Aztec, N.M.; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Dan F. Culp Dan F. Culp, 79, of 3705 Van Tassel St., died Tuesday, May 27, 1997. Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday in Washington Avenue Christian Church with Windell Taylor, chaplain at the Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center, officiating. He moved to Amarillo from Wellington 52 years ago. He was a retired construction foreman and a member of Carpenter's Local Union 665, Palo Duro Lodge 1239 and Washington Avenue Christian Church. He married Ruth Judd in 1938 at Hollis, Okla. She died in 1995. Mr. and Mrs. Culp were retired owners of Barnaby's Beanery, which is now operated by their son, Charles. Mr. Culp served in the Army in the 27th Division, 165th Infantry Company A and then the 43rd Combat Engineers in Yokohama, Japan. Survivors include a daughter, Barbara Brown of Amarillo; two sons, Charles F. Culp Sr. and Rickey Culp, both of Amarillo; eight grandchildren; and four greatgrandchildren. The family will be at 3527 Cinderella Lane. Donald Steinmetz Donald Steinmetz, 56, of 5718 W. 37th Ave., died Wednesday, May 28, 1997. Graveside services will be in Darien Cemetery at Darien, Wis. Mr. Steinmetz was born in Beloit, Wis. He joined the National Guard after completing high school. He was called to active duty by the Army in 1968 and was discharged in 1969. He was a machinist for Aviall in Dallas for 13 years. He married Barbara Brown in 1965 at Northridge, Calif. Survivors include a daughter, Julie Brellenthin of Sussex, Wis.; a sister, Sandy Yerger of Amarillo; his father and stepmother, Elmer and Gertrude Steinmetz of Clinton, Wis.; and a grandchild. Oklahoma Velma Lenora Thornton GUYMON, Okla. - Velma Lenora Thornton, 88, died Wednesday, May 28, 1997. Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday in Henson-Novak Funeral Directors Chapel with the Rev. Frank Springer, interim minister at First Christian Church, officiating. Burial will be in Elmhurst Cemetery. Mrs. Thornton was born in Humboldt, Kan. She married John Harrison Thornton in 1930 at Ottawa, Kan. They moved to the Cities Service Plant in Straight, Okla., in 1949. They moved to Guymon in 1970 and made their home there. Her husband died in 1978. Mrs. Thornton was a member of Straight Christian Church, Disciples of Christ. Survivors include a daughter, Louise Turkle of Redondo Beach, Calif.; a brother, Virgil Rally Dunaway of Washington, D.C.; three grandchildren; and four greatgrandchildren. She graduated from Oak Cliff High School in Dallas and attended Austin College in Sherman. She moved to Pampa in 1947 from Fort Worth. She married Paul N. Brown in 1937 at Dallas. He died in 1976. Mrs. Brown was a member of First United Methodist Church and several local bridge clubs. She was a bookkeeper for Tom Rose Motors in Pampa for several years. Survivors include two sons, Paul Brown of Oklahoma City and John Brown of Orinda, Calif.; a daughter, Barbara Frazier of Cordova, Tenn.; a brother, Dr. Charles Sprague of Dallas; and six grandchildren. Otto Lloyd Forrester WHEELER - Otto Lloyd Forrester, 89, died Tuesday, May 27, 1997. Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday in First Baptist Church with the Rev. Toby Henson, pastor, and Bill Morrison, minister of the Wheeler Church of Christ, officiating. Burial will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery at Pampa by Wright Funeral Home. Mr. Forrester was born in Alvord. He married Esther Duvall in 1931 at Comanche, Okla. They moved to Wheeler from Fritch in 1976. He was a farmer and worked for Panhandle Eastern Pipeline Co. for 27 years before retiring in 1970. He was a member of the Country Chapel in Wheeler and a former member of the Masonic Lodge in Stinnett. Survivors include his wife; three sons, Glendon Forrester of Bowie, Edward Forrester of Wheeler and Gerald Forrester of Plano; a sister, Belle Smith of Stephenville; seven grandchildren; and six greatgrandchildren. Lucie Helene Boedeker PLAINVIEW - Lucie Helene Rauschenbach Boedeker, 87, died Tuesday, May 27, 1997. Services will be at 5 p.m. Friday in Wood-Dunning Funeral Home Colonial Chapel with David Jeske of St. Paul's Lutheran Church officiating. Burial will be in Plainview Memorial Park Cemetery. Mrs. Boedeker was born in Remsa, Germany, and moved to the Plainview area in 1924. She married Leo Boedeker in 1929 at the Providence community northeast of Plainview. He died in 1963. She also was preceded in death by a son, Eugene Roy Boedeker, in 1962. After marrying, she lived in the Prairieview community until 1960 when she moved to Plainview. She was a homemaker and a member of Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church in Tulia. Survivors include a daughter, Ruth Smith of Tulia; two sons, Ervin W. Boedeker and Werner L. Boedeker, both of Plainview; a sister, Hilda Huber of Taylor; eight grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. Sally Ima Thomas Bush CHILDRESS - Sally Ima Thomas Bush, 75, died Tuesday, May 27, 1997. Arrangements are by Johnson Funeral Home. Mrs. Bush was born in Lindsay, Okla. She married Scott Bush in 1956 at Kaufman. She was a homemaker. Survivors include her husband; three daughters, Margaret Martin of Childress, and Marjorie Rogers and Karen Overstreet, both of Tulsa, Okla.; two sons, Ed Wallace of Tulsa and Larry Wallace of Austin; 18 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren. Canyon Thelma Glazener Davis Thelma Glazener Davis, 87, of Amarillo, a former Canyon resident, died Tuesday, May 27, 1997. Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in Dreamland Cemetery at Canyon with the Rev. Gayle Bowen, associate pastor of First Baptist Church, officiating. Arrangements are by Brooks Funeral Directors of Canyon. Mrs. Davis was born near Hulver in Hall County. She was raised in the Jericho community of Donley County. She graduated from Jericho High School. She married Kelse Davis in 1938 at Pampa. He died in 1953. She lived in Pampa for a few years and then moved to California. She was employed as a seamstress in California. She moved to Groom in 1974, to Canyon in 1978 and later to Amarillo. She was a Baptist. Survivors include three brothers, Buel V. Glazener of Canyon, Henry C. Glazener of Costa Mesa, Calif., and Victor J. Glazener of Santa Paula, Calif. The family requests memorials be to the Heritage Convalescent Center, 1009 Clyde, Amarillo, Texas 79106. New Mexico Floyd Gore CLOVIS, N.M. - Charles F. "Floyd'' Gore, 85, died Wednesday, May 28, 1997. Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday in The Chapel with Richard Sutherlin and Russ Koelzer officiating. Burial will be at 3 p.m. in Elida Cemetery at Elida. Mr. Gore was born in Medicine Lodge, Kan. His family homesteaded northwest of Elida. He graduated from Elida High School in 1929. He married Cubie Ridgway in 1934 at Roswell. They moved to Clovis in 1941. Mr. Gore was retired from civil service at Cannon Air Force Base, where he was an aircraft mechanic. He served several terms as president of the Yucca Good Sams Club. He was a deacon at Gateway Christian Church. Survivors include his wife; a son, Phil Gore of Antonito, Colo.; a sister, Alvina Ertel of Cupertino, Calif.; two grandchildren; and a great-granddaughter. The family requests memorials be to the New Mexico Boys and Girls Ranch. Visitation will be today until 8 p.m. at the funeral home. The casket will be closed for services.
