Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Dumas Cemetery with the Rev. Scott Willingham, pastor of First Baptist Church, officiating. Arrangements are by Morrison Funeral Directors. Mrs. Giles, born in Haskell, had been a Dumas resident since 1930. She was a homemaker and a member of First Baptist Church. She married Everett Giles in 1929. He died in 1963. She was a longtime member of the Dumas chapter of Order of the Eastern Star. Survivors include a daughter, LaVerne Giles Futrell of Dumas; a brother, Herschel C. Strawn of Fort Collins, Colo.; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and two step-great-grandchildren. The family will be at 116 Cherry and requests memorials be to Memorial Hospice, 224 E. Second, Dumas, 79029. Inez V. Tinker QUANAH - Inez V. Tinker, 87, died Saturday, Sept. 27, 1997, in Abilene. Services will be at 4 p.m. Tuesday at First Baptist Church with the Rev. Clinton Young officiating. Burial will be at Quanah Memorial Park by Price-Jackson Funeral Home. Mrs. Tinker was born in 1910 in Hardeman County. She married Melvin R. Tinker in 1929 in Hardeman County. He preceded her in death in 1991. She was a homemaker and a member of First Baptist Church. Mrs. Tinker also was preceded in death by a daughter, Audine Pennington, and a son, Melton Wayne Tinker. Survivors include two sons, Valton Tinker of Marietta, Ga., and Harlen E. Tinker of Quanah; two daughters Evelyn Dorsett of Abilene and Virginia Williams of Basehor, Kan.; a brother, Ray Goree of Tyler; two sisters, Vivian Cokendolpher of Charlie and Avis Trolinger of Duncan, Okla.; 15 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. Delta Walker Smith MEMPHIS - Delta Walker Smith, 52, died Saturday, Sept. 27, 1997. Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at First Christian Church. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery in Tulia by WoodDunning Funeral Home. Mrs. Smith was born in Plainview, graduating from Plainview High School in 1963. She attended West Texas State University. Mrs. Smith owned The Smith Agency in Plainview and was a former president of the Plainview Board of Realtors. She worked at the Swisher County Farm Services Agency in Tulia before becoming county executive director of Zavala County in Uvalde. She was serving as county executive director for Hall County in Memphis. She was a member of TASCO and current president of Memphis Country Club Women's Association. She had coached T-ball in Plainview and Memphis for several years. Survivors include a daughter, Jennifer Wright of Plainview; her parents, Dale and Jean Walker of Plainview; a sister, Michele Devin of Tulia; a brother, Frank Walker of Plainview; and a grandson. The family suggests memorials be to the Scottish Rite Hospital in Dallas and will be at 2506 Holliday in Memphis. Vonnie L. Jordan DUMAS - Vonnie L. Jordan, 66, of Carlsbad, N.M., died Friday, Sept. 26, 1997. Services will be at 2 p.m. today at Morrison Funeral Home with the Rev. Jay McGaughey of Temple Baptist Church officiating. Burial will be in Dumas Cemetery. Arrangements are by West Funeral Home of Carlsbad and Morrison Funeral Directors. Mrs. Jordan, born in Quanah, was reared in Vernon. She married her husband, Bill, in Vernon in 1948, and they moved to Dumas in 1950. They moved to Clovis in 1960 and to Carlsbad in 1964. She was a member of Landmark Baptist Church. Survivors include her husband; two sons, Jerry Jordan of Carlsbad and Mike Jordan of Dumas; a daughter, Sheila Justice of Carlsbad and Pat Raney of Dumas; two brothers, J.L. Scroggins of Borger and Clyde Scroggins of Fritch; four sisters, Edna Jordan and Joyce Stephenson, both of Dumas, Vivian Sisco of Carson, Ga., and Charles-Etta Hendrix of Chillicothe; five grandchildren; and a greatgrandchild. Memorials may be made to the hospice in Carlsbad. Cash Richards BOVINA - Cash Richards, 83, of Lubbock, died Saturday, Sept. 27, 1997. Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at First Baptist Church with the Rev. Gary Morgan, pastor, and Don Stone of Clarendon officiating. Burial will be in Bovina Cemetery by Ellis-Blackwell Funeral Home of Friona. Mr. Richards was born in Tye. He married Mildred Lasater Smith in 1951 at Clovis, N.M. He was a Baptist and a retired farmer who had lived in Bovina since 1920. He moved to Lubbock in 1967 but continued to farm in the Bovina area until his retirement in 1995. Survivors include his wife; three sons, Billy Richards of Pflugerville, Woody Smith of Tacoma, Wash., and Jim Richards of Lubbock; two daughters, August Salter of Amarillo and Tonia Shrode of Lubbock; 10 grandchildren; and six greatgrandchildren. Gene Hickman TULIA - Gene Hickman, 75, died Sunday, Sept. 28, 1997. Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at First Presbyterian Church with the Revs. Andy and Janell Blair, pastors, officiating. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery by Wallace Funeral Home. Mr. Hickman was born in Swisher County. He married Bettie Carroll in 1946 at Clovis, N.M. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church. He attended schools at Flint and Kress, serving in the Navy during World War II. He returned to Tulia and worked as a contractor and builder. In 1953, he started farming, retiring in 1986. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Marsha Sanders of Tulia and Jo Briley of Gardendale; his mother, Iva Hickman Payne of Tulia; two sisters, Lou Hardy of Tulia and Anna Lee Schuster of Tucumcari, N.M.; and two granddaughters. Ina Tatum WELLINGTON - Ina Tatum, 96, died Sunday, Sept. 28, 1997. Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Adams Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Vince Sandlin of Paducah officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Mrs. Tatum was born in Houston. She arrived in Collingsworth County in 1912. She married James W. Tatum in 1919 in Hollis, Okla. He died in 1974. She was a past Noble Grand in the Rebekah Lodge and a member of the United Pentecostal Church. She was a homemaker. She was preceded in death by an infant son. Survivors include a daughter, Robin Chang of Honolulu; two grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and 17 greatgreat-grandchildren. Memorials may be made to Wellington Cemetery Association. J.R. Nicholson WHITE DEER - J.R. Nicholson, 100, died Saturday, Sept. 27, 1997. Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at United Methodist Church in White Deer with the Rev. John Dorn, pastor of First United Methodist Church of Shamrock, officiating. Burial will be in White Deer Cemetery by CarmichaelWhatley Funeral Directors. James Russell Nicholson was born in Portland Mills, Ind. He was valedictorian in the first graduating class of Pampa High School. He married Susie Mae Bennett in 1920 in Pampa. She died in 1988. In 1924, he moved from Pampa to White Deer, where he farmed and ranched until his retirement in 1972. He was a member of the Methodist church and White Deer Senior Citizens. He was a member and a past president of White Deer School Board. He served on the ASCS and Soil Conservation boards. Survivors include two sons, Donald Nicholson of White Deer and C.L. Nicholson of Amarillo; two daughters, Nikki Gatlin of Amarillo and Roberta Williams of White Deer; nine grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and three great-greatgrandchildren. Memorials may be made to White Deer Senior Citizens, 319 S. Main, White Deer, Texas 79097. Amarillo Betty Teichman Betty Teichman, 72, of Amarillo, died Saturday, Sept. 27, 1997. Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Memorial Park Funeral Home Chapel of Memories, 6969 E. Interstate 40, with the Rev. Windell Taylor, chaplain of the VA hospital, officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Mrs. Teichman, born in White Deer, was a longtime Amarillo resident. She married Benjamin E. Teichman in 1967. He died in 1980. She was a bookkeeper for ICS, retiring in 1965. She also worked for Northwest Texas hospital. She was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Ladies Auxiliary and Southeast Baptist Church. Survivors include two daughters, Linda Russell and Carol Lovett, both of Amarillo; a twin brother, Ted Lewis of Dumas; a sister, Wanda Arfsten of Sun City, Ariz.; five grandchildren; and eight greatgrandchildren. The family will be at 1100 Alta Vista. Ruth Marie Johnson Ruth Marie Johnson, 95, of 2205 Troveta, died Saturday, Sept. 27, 1997. Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Roselawn Memorial Park Cemetery in Salina, Kan., with the Rev. Robert Conway of University United Methodist Church officiating. Arrangements are by Blackburn-Shaw Funeral Directors Fifth and Pierce, and by Roselawn/Heights Memorial Chapel in Salina. Mrs. Johnson was born in Hays, Kan. She moved to Amarillo and Ada, Okla., before returning to Kansas. She moved to Amarillo 22 years ago from Salina, where she taught in several schools. She married Myron Johnson in 1927 at Wichita, Kan. He died in 1975. She received her bachelor's degree from Fort Hays University. She was a lifetime member of Eastern Star and a member of Kansas Retired Teachers Association. Survivors include two sons, Bill Johnson of Amarillo and Randall Johnson of Broomfield, Colo.; a sister, Marjorie Johnson of Topeka, Kan.; five grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. The family will be at 2205 Troveta. The body will not be available for viewing. Dorothy M. McKinney Dorothy M. McKinney, 66, of Amarillo, died Friday, Sept. 26, 1997. Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Boxwell Brothers Ivy Chapel, 2820 Virginia Circle, with the Rev. David Brack, pastor of Christ Covenant Presbyterian Church, officiating. Burial will be in Llano Cemetery. Mrs. McKinney was born in Wellington, Kan., and had been a resident of Amarillo since 1964. She was a homemaker and had worked for the Amarillo Globe-News as a counselor. She was a member of the Church of Christ. She married Nelson McKinney in 1968 at Claude. Survivors include her husband; four sons, Lennie Turner of Houston, Kevin Turner of Colorado City, and Derrick Hughes and Page McKinney, both of Amarillo; seven daughters, Marva Messer, LeAndra Turner, Larri Lester, Shelly Worrell and LexAnne Taylor, all of Amarillo, Chris Walker of Albuquerque and Ty Lake of McKinney; three brothers, Forrest Davis of Port Aransas, and Gary Davis and Norman Davis, both of Guymon; three sisters Ila Shue of Wellington, Kan., Lela Goebel of Canon City, Colo., and Donna Kotke of Murrietta, Calif.; 16 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. Elsewhere Mary Carden LUBBOCK - Mary Carden, 83, a longtime Plainview resident, died Saturday, Sept. 27, 1997 Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Lemons Memorial Chapel in Plainview with the Rev. Don Robertson, pastor of College Heights Baptist Church of Plainview, officiating. Burial will be in Plainview Cemetery. Mrs. Carden was born in Nevada, Texas. She graduated from Amarillo High School. She married Rice Carden in 1941 at Plainview and lived in Kress. He died in 1987. She worked as a sales clerk at Anthony's in Plainview for 10 years, retiring in 1976. She moved to Plainview in 1976 and to Lubbock in 1996. She was a member of College Heights Baptist Church. Survivors include a son, Charles Carden of Lubbock; a sister, Irene Felton of Amarillo; and three grandchildren. Memorials may be to College Heights Baptist Church. William R. Martin FOREMAN, Ark. - William Rural Martin, 72, a former Amarillo resident, died Sunday, Sept. 28. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Dollarhide Cemetery with the Rev. Duane Blackmore officiating. Arrangements are by Wilkerson Funeral Home. Mr. Martin, born in Foreman, was a member of Assembly of God Church. He was an Army veteran of World War II. He was a masonry contractor in Amarillo and a member of the Disabled American Veterans. Survivors include his wife, Joyce Marie Green Martin; a son, Rural Wayne Martin of Foreman; two brothers, Harold Edward Martin of Watson, Okla., and Charles Winford Martin of Winthrop; two sisters, Wanda Ruth Lindsey of Crossroads, Ark., and Judy Ann Nelson of Arkinda, Ark.; a grandson; and three great-grandchildren.
