Huff Sr. Nelson H. Huff Sr., of Amarillo, died Monday, Oct. 27, 1997. Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in Mount Zion Baptist Church with Nathaniel Cantly, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Llano Cemetery by Warford-Walker Mortuary Inc., 509 N. Hughes St. Mr. Huff was born in Yoakum. He moved to Amarillo in 1935 from Pampa. In 1951, he and his wife, Bertha, opened and operated Huff's Drug. Mrs. Huff preceded him in death. Mr. Huff operated the store until the time of his death. He was a member of Markwell Masonic Lodge No. 415 and Ozair Shrine Temple No. 146. In 1995, he was honored by the temple as a 50-year member. He served the temple for many years as a recorder. He was a 32nd Degree Mason and a past Worshipful Master. Mr. Huff had served on the board of Community Development and the Health Department for the city of Amarillo. Survivors include a son, Nelson H. Huff Jr. of Amarillo; and four grandchildren. The family will be at 1400 N. Hughes St. Frances White Frances "Mom'' White, 88, of Amarillo, died Tuesday, Oct. 28, 1997. Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in Amarillo Bible Church with the Rev. Jim Gianoutsos officiating. Burial will be in Llano Cemetery by Schooler-Gordon Funeral Directors, 5400 Bell St. Mrs. White was born in Snyder, Okla., and graduated from Littlefield High School. She had been a longtime resident of Amarillo. She married Ross White in 1926 at Olton. Mrs. White was a homemaker and a charter member of Amarillo Bible Church. She was involved in the Child Evangelism Fellowship for 55 years. She was preceded in death by an infant son, John Edward White. Survivors include her husband; two sons, Paul White and Alden White, both of Amarillo; two daughters, Ellen Weekley of Boulder, Colo., and Frances Clark of Irving; a brother, Irvin Sanders of Salida, Colo.; a sister, Johnnie Kelly of Amarillo; 15 grandchildren; and 21 greatgrandchildren. The family will be at 3708 S.E. 34th Ave. They request memorials be to Child Evangelism Fellowship. Sheryl Ann Gidney Sheryl Ann Gidney, 19, of Amarillo, died Saturday, Oct. 25, 1997. She then attended Martinsburg High School in Inwood, where she was an active member of the ROTC. Upon her return to Amarillo, she attended Amarillo High School. She worked as a telemarketer for Sitel Communications. Survivors include her mother, Alonia Waller of Amarillo; a sister, LaShonda Waller of Amarillo; and her grandparents, the Rev. Robert and Shirley Gidney of Inwood, and Maggie Combs of Amarillo. The family will be at 2513 Redondo Drive. Theodore H. Barber Theodore "Ted'' H. Barber, 92, of Amarillo, died Tuesday, Oct. 28, 1997. Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in San Jacinto United Methodist Church with the Rev. Royce Womack, retired Methodist minister, officiating. He had been a longtime resident of Amarillo. He was the head mechanic for Braniff Airlines before retiring in 1970. He was a member of San Jacinto United Methodist Church. Mr. Barber married Beryl Desmond in 1940 at Amarillo. Survivors include his wife; and a brother, Willis E. Barber of Holtwood, Pa. The family requests memorials be to San Jacinto United Methodist Church. Harold Fenton Cavnor Harold Fenton Cavnor, 87, of Amarillo, died Thursday, Oct. 30, 1997. A prayer service will be at 4:30 p.m. today in Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors Ivy Chapel, 2820 Virginia Circle, with Robert Smith, deacon at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, officiating. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in Memory Gardens Cemetery with the Rev. Neal Dee of St. Joseph's officiating. Mr. Cavnor was born in New York City. He moved to Amarillo from New York in 1946. He was the manager of the Capitol Hotel for 22 years. He retired as manager of the Fountain Inn. He was an Army veteran of World War II and a member of the Elks Lodge, the Hotel Greeters Association and St. Joseph's Catholic Church. Mr. Cavnor married Onolee Kelly in 1943 at Muskogee, Okla. Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Denise Britt of Dallas; a sister, Geraldine Holmes of West Warwick, R.I.; and two grandchildren. The family will be at 4503 Bonham St. Canyon Ruth McAtee Chandler Ruth McAtee Chandler, 91, of Canyon, died Tuesday, Oct. 28, 1997. Services were at 2 p.m. Thursday in Brooks Funeral Directors Chapel with the Rev. Billy D. Nickell, pastor of First Assembly of God Church, officiating. Burial was in Dreamland Cemetery. Mrs. Chandler was born in Mangum, Okla. At a young age, she moved with her family to Carter, Okla. She attended school at Retrop, Okla., and graduated from Carter High School. She married Lee Chandler in 1929 at Sayre, Okla. They moved to Borger in 1950 and to Canyon in 1966. Mr. Chandler died in 1968. Mrs. Chandler was a member of First Assembly of God Church. Survivors include a sister, Jean Tippery of Canyon; and a nephew, Carol D. McAtee of Mineral Wells. The family will be at 66 Country Club Drive. Oklahoma Jewel Ethel Trammell HOLLIS, Okla. - Jewel Ethel Trammell, 96, died Friday, Oct. 24, 1997, in Altus. Services will be at 2:30 p.m. Sunday in First Baptist Church Chapel with the Rev. James Densman, pastor, and Dr. Randy Davis officiating. Burial will be in Fairmount Cemetery by Patterson Greer Funeral Home. Mrs. Trammell was born in Kingsland, Texas. She married Arthur Cecil Trammell in 1925 at Amherst, Texas. He died in 1958. She was a longtime member of First Baptist Church, where she taught a children's Sunday school class, and later a women's class, for more than 40 years. Mrs. Trammell also was preceded in death by a son, John William Trammell, in 1989. Survivors include five daughters, Dell Alexander of Waco, Texas, Mary Walkup and Bennie Davis, both of Amarillo, Naomi Jo Sutton of Lubbock, Texas, and Shirley Moore of Hollis; 15 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. Esther Elizabeth Jenkins BEAVER, Okla. - Esther Elizabeth Jenkins, 92, died Tuesday, Oct. 28, 1997. Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in the Beaver Church of Christ with Paxson Gordon and David Glascock officiating. Burial will be in Sophia Cemetery by Clark Funeral Service. Mrs. Jenkins was born in Spencer, Ind. She attended and graduated from the North Fork schools. She married Arthur Perry Jenkins in 1923 at Beaver. He died in 1981. Mrs. Jenkins had been a homemaker all of her married life. She was a member of the Church of Christ for 79 years. Survivors include two sons, Arthur Wesley Jenkins of Booker, Texas, and Lyndell Perry Jenkins of Broken Arrow; four daughters, Virginia Rae Niles of Edmond, Coeta Starr Akridge of Beaver, Barbara Faye Altman of Searcy, Ark., and Cheryl Lynn Slovacek of Oklahoma City; a brother, Lawrence Davis of Logan; two sisters, Winona Kilpatrick of Springfield, Mo., and Marjorie Williams of Tulsa; 17 grandchildren; 39 greatgrandchildren; and 11 great-great-grandchildren. Elsewhere E.L. McCutchan NORTH RICHLAND HILLS - E.L. "Jack'' McCutchan, 86, died Wednesday, Oct. 29, 1997. Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in Mount Olivet Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery. Mr. McCutchan was born in Tipton, Okla. He was a foreman for Sherley Grain Co. in Bovina for 20 years. He also farmed in the Parmer County area for more than 10 years. He worked for Thermal-King in Fort Worth for several years. He served with the Army Air Corps as an aircraft mechanic during World War II. He was a member of Pentecostal Holiness Church in Irving. Survivors include his wife, Dixie McCutchan; four sons, E.L. McCutchan of Seattle, Keith McCutchan of Victoria, Calvin McCutchan of Terrell and Billy McCutchan of North Richland Hills; two daughters, Florence Reynolds of Albany, Ore., and Patricia Morett of Ocean City, Ore.; a brother, A.R. McCutchan of Dumas; three grandchildren; and a greatgrandchild. Visitation will be from 7 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home. Marvin Wallace Jr. ODESSA - Marvin Wallace Jr., 71, died Friday, Oct. 24, 1997. Services were at 11 a.m. Monday in First Assembly of God Church. Burial was in Sunset Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Arrangements were by Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home. Mr. Wallace was born in Fastril and had been a longtime resident of Odessa. He served with the Navy during World War II. He retired from civil service at Cannon Air Force Base in 1977. He was a member of First Assembly of God Church. He was preceded in death by a son, Barry Michael, in 1979. Survivors include a son, Pat Wallace of Amarillo; two daughters, Kay Elliot and Vanessa Rhae Caudle, both of Amarillo; a sister, Frankie Blackmon of Odessa; a brother, C.L. Wallace of Palestine; and three grandchildren. Area James Glenn Hooker PAMPA - James Glenn Hooker, 27, died Wednesday, Oct. 29, 1997. Mr. Hooker was born in Pampa and had been a lifelong Pampa resident. He attended Pampa schools. He worked in the oil field business and was a member of Mary Ellen & Harvester Church of Christ. Survivors include a son, Dylan Hooker of Pampa; a daughter, Jessica Hooker of Pampa; his parents, Jim and Judy Hooker of Pampa; a sister, Lisa Winegeart of Pampa; and grandparents, Herman and Vera Glenn of McLean. Fred John Miller DARROUZETT - Fred John Miller, 79, died Wednesday, Oct. 29, 1997. Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in St. Paul's Lutheran Church with Dr. Michael Gabby officiating. Burial will be in Darrouzett Cemetery by Mason Funeral Home of Shattuck, Okla. Mr. Miller was born in Oshkosh, Wis. He moved to Lipscomb County when he was 2 years old. He attended Turner Country School and then began working as a farmhand for the Born family. He married Emma Marie Meier in 1939 at Lipscomb. They lived in Follett for a year and then moved to a farm west of Darrouzett. They also lived for a short time in Oklahoma. They moved into Darrouzett in 1964. Mrs. Miller died in 1990. Mr. Miller was a farmer and a rancher. He was an active member of the Darrouzett Senior Citizens and a supporter of the local FFA chapter. Survivors include a daughter, Lois Ann Miller of Darrouzett; a son, Stacy Lee Miller of Borger; two brothers, Victor Miller of Follett and Leo Miller of Booker; a sister, Ruth Ginter of Lipscomb; and three grandchildren. The family requests memorials be to St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Darrouzett or a favorite charity. Ronald Terry McCarthy PAMPA - Ronald Terry McCarthy, 53, died Thursday, Oct. 30, 1997. Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors Colonial Chapel with Billy Jones, minister of Westside Church of Christ, officiating. Burial will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery. Mr. McCarthy was born in Bowie and had been a resident of Pampa most of his life. He served in the Army during peacetime. He was a foreman for KNN Energy and a member of Westside Church of Christ. He married Jan Green in 1961 at Pampa. Survivors include his wife; a son, Terry McCarthy of Pampa; two daughters, Jani McCarthy and Cherry McCarthy, both of Pampa; his parents, Cotton and Juanita McCarthy of Pampa; a brother, Charles McCarthy of Odessa; and a grandson. The family requests memorials be to the American Diabetes Association or the American Kidney Foundation. Wayne Bennett FLOYDADA - Wayne Bennett, 86, died Wednesday, Oct. 29, 1997. Mr. Bennett was born in Lamasco and attended school in Wichita County. He married Hettie Ethel Wiggins in 1929 at Vera. They moved to Floydada in 1932 from Knox County. Mr. Bennett retired as owner of Bennett Building Materials in 1975. He was a member of Floydada Masonic Lodge No. 712 and was honored in 1994 for more than 50 years of affiliation. He also was a member of First United Methodist Church. Survivors include his wife; a son, Harold Wayne Bennett of Floydada; a daughter, Rotha Moore of Dumas; two sisters, Faye Martin of Duncan, Okla., and Pauline Morris of Burkburnett; eight grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren. Burial will be in Muleshoe Memorial Park Cemetery by Ellis Funeral Home. Mrs. Hughes was born in Guthrie, Okla. She had lived in Muleshoe since 1985, moving from Mexia. She married James Darden Hughes in 1936 at Skellytown. He died in 1989. Mrs. Hughes was a homemaker and a member of New Covenant Church of Muleshoe. Survivors include a son, Homer Lee Hughes of Springfield, Va.; a daughter, Lynda Low of Muleshoe; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Zelma Smith DIMMITT - Zelma Smith, 89, a former Dimmitt resident, died Wednesday, Oct. 29, 1997, in Richardson. Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in Foskey-Lilley-McGill Funeral Home Ivey Chapel with the Rev. Howard Rhodes, pastor of First Baptist Church, and the Rev. Van Earl Hughes, retired minister, officiating. Burial will be in Castro Memorial Gardens. Mrs. Smith was born in Loveland, Colo. She moved to Hereford in 1920 and to the Bethel community in 1928. She moved to Dimmitt in 1961 and had lived in Richardson since 1994. She graduated from Hereford High School in 1927. She was a charter member of the Bethel Home Demonstration Club. She was active with the First Baptist Church in Dimmitt until moving to Richardson, where she was a member of Prestonwood Baptist Church. She married Jesse Leland Smith in 1928 at Hereford. He died in 1987. Survivors include two sons, Robert Wesley Smith and Leland Elbert Smith, both of Dimmitt; two daughters, Elzada Faye Funck of Houston and Zella Vee Wilson of Dallas; two sisters, Nell Bencoe of Albuquerque, N.M., and Hazel Bagwell of Dimmitt; 10 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren. The family requests memorials be to Family Hospice, 1140 Empire Central, Suite 235, Dallas, Texas 75247. Joe Bob Jones HAPPY - Joe Bob Jones, 57, died Wednesday, Oct. 29, 1997. Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in First Baptist Church with the Rev. Lonny Poe, pastor, the Rev. Kenneth Winchester and the Rev. Brad Winchester officiating. Burial will be in Happy Cemetery by Brooks Funeral Directors of Canyon. Mr. Jones was born in Lynn County. He graduated from Slaton High School in 1958. He attended Tarleton State College for two years and graduated from Texas Tech University in 1962 with a bachelor of science degree in agriculture. He taught school in Colorado City and then farmed near Bovina and Muleshoe. He moved to Happy in 1966 and was manager of the Taylor Evans farm store. He later operated the seed business for Harmon-Toles grain elevator. At the time of his death, Mr. Jones had been the manager of Tule Creek Gin for 10 years. He was on the board of directors for the Texas Cotton Ginners Association. He was a past member of the Happy Lions Club, the Happy School Board and the volunteer fire department. He also was an emergency medical technician for the fire department. He was a deacon and member of First Baptist Church of Happy. He also served on the city commission. Mr. Jones married Linda Walker in 1962 at Slaton. Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Vicki Bowman and Karen Mitchell, both of Littleton, Colo.; two brothers, William Jones of Slaton and Roy Jones of Barron, Wis.; two sisters, Alene Latham and Etta Belle Milliken, both of Slaton; and two grandchildren.
