Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday in Southside Church of Christ in Electra with Bill Mayes and Dennis Hoff officiating. Burial will be in Electra Memorial Park in Electra by Johnson Funeral Home of Childress. Mrs. Story was born in Trickham. She was a homemaker and a member of Southside Church of Christ in Electra. She worked at Woods Nursing Home in Wichita Falls for four years. After her husband retired, she helped him operate a bait shop. She was preceded in death by her husband, Joe R. Story, in 1977; a son, Billy Morgan; a stepson, Buddy Story; and two stepdaughters, Irene Tomzack and Esther Lee Hams. Survivors include two daughters, Joyce Crawford of Childress and Nell Suffern of Lawton, Okla.; four sons, Arnold W. Story of Lefors, Carlton D. Story of Everett, Wash., Edward R. Story of Shelton, Wash., and Joe Robert Story of Whitesboro; and 25 grandchildren. The body will be available for viewing at the funeral home in Childress. Visitation will be at the church in Electra from 11:30 a.m. until service time Monday. Pete Clements DALHART - Pete Clements, 79, died Thursday, Feb. 26, 1998. Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday in Lakeview United Methodist Church. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery by Hass Funeral Home Inc. Mr. Clements was born and raised in Stratford. He moved to Dalhart in 1936 from Stratford. He served with the Army Air Corps during World War II. He owned and operated C&S Welding Shop for 35 years. He was active in rodeos and was a member of the Old Timers Rodeo Association. Survivors include his wife, Mary Bell Clements; two sons, Bob Clements of Odessa and Roy Clements of Dumas; a daughter, Judy McCloy of Masterson; two brothers, Jim Clements and Jasper Clements, both of Dalhart; two sisters, Ruby McCown and Jennie Cantrell, both of Dalhart; and six grandchildren. The family requests memorials be to Dalhart Hospice or the American Cancer Society. Una Lee Barrett QUITAQUE - Una Lee "Tuny" Barrett, 64, died Thursday, Feb. 26, 1998, in Amarillo. Burial will be in Resthaven Cemetery by Myers-Long Funeral Directors. Mrs. Barrett was born in Turkey. She married Glynn Dale Barrett in 1956 at Silverton. He died in 1984. She was a member of First Baptist Church. Ms. Rickey was born in Paris, Texas, and had lived in the Perryton area for 27 years. She was a waitress and a volunteer at Senior Village. She was a member of the Homemaker Extension Club and First Baptist Church. Survivors include a son, Jerry Rickey of Perryton; a daughter, Jimmie Confer of San Angelo; two granddaughters; and friend, Ernie Parham of Perryton. Lora May Miller PERRYTON - Lora Mae "Kelly" Miller, 86, of Waco, a former Perryton resident, died Thursday, Feb. 26, 1998. Graveside services were at 2 p.m. Saturday in Ochiltree Cemetery with the Rev. Frank T. Springer officiating. Arrangements were by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Home. Mrs. Miller was born in Ochiltree County. She lived in the Perryton area until 1938. She then moved to Dallas and later to Waco. She married James H. Miller in 1931 at Perryton. He died in 1935. She also was preceded in death by a son, William Ernest Miller, in 1988. Mrs. Miller was a hairdresser for 40 years. After retiring in 1970, she worked with ceramics. She was a volunteer for the community of Beverly Hills and was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star for 50 years. Survivors include a son, James Duane Miller of Simi Valley, Calif.; four grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and friend, Anita Behnke of Waco. D.W. Crain DUMAS - D.W. "Dub" Crain, 71, died Friday, Feb. 27, 1998. Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday in Central Church of Christ Chapel in Amarillo with Paul Sneed of the church officiating. Burial will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery in Amarillo with military rites by Disabled American Veterans Chapter No. 26. Arrangements are by Schooler Funeral Home Inc., 4100 S. Georgia St., in Amarillo. Mr. Crain was born in Elida, N.M. He grew up in Abilene. He attended Hardin Simmons University and was president of the Cowboy band his senior year. He was a Navy veteran, serving during World War II and the Korean War. He had lived in Dumas since 1973. He was a member of the Church of Christ in Dumas. Mr. Crain directed bands in Rotan, Lovington, N.M., Abernathy, Petersburg, Sunray and Dumas. He also worked in the music store business for many years. He retired in 1988 after 38 years of teaching. Mr. Crain made 22 sweepstakes with his bands. In 1979, he was elected president of Texas Band Masters Association. In 1992, he was inducted into the Texas Band Masters Hall of Fame. He was a member of Texas Music Educators Association. He had been a clinician, judging many contests in the Tri-State area. Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Toni Terrell of Lubbock; two sons, Ferrell Crain of Fort Worth and Terry Crain of Elkhart, Kan.; a sister, Patty Andrews of Dallas; a brother, Kyle Crain of Richardson; and three grandchildren. Bates in 1956 at Clovis, N.M. He died in 1980. Survivors include a son, Bobby J. Brazil of Pampa; a stepdaughter, Virginia Allison of Abilene; a brother, Julian T. Harrison of Dallas; a sister, Mrs. Donald C. Ormson of Borger; three grandchildren; and a great-grandson. Winifred Morgan QUANAH - Winifred Morgan, 86, died Friday, Feb. 27, 1998. Services will be at 2 p.m. today in First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Jesse Dea and the Rev. Randy Thomas of Chillicothe First United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will be in Quanah Memorial Park by Price-Jackson Funeral Home. Mrs. Morgan was born in Quanah. She moved to Salina, Kan., after her first marriage then returned to Quanah in 1943. For many years, she was a clerk for the Bestwall Gypsum Plant in Acme. She was a member of First United Church in Chillicothe and the B & PW. She married Walter W. Foltz in 1935. He died in 1943 during World War II. She married Garvis Morgan in 1958 and moved to Chillocothe. He died in 1978. Survivors include a sister, Ottis Brandon of Quanah; and several nieces and nephews. Betty Jane Drake QUANAH - Betty Jane Drake, 70, died Saturday, Feb. 28, 1998. Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday in Price-Jackson Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Clinton Young, minister of the First Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Quanah Memorial Park. Mrs. Drake was born in Detroit, Texas. She was a retired farmer and rancher. She was a member of First Baptist Church. She married Jestine Don Drake in 1971 in Walters, Okla. He died in 1986. Survivors include two daughters, Patti Taylor of Grapevine and Prissy Stanley of Big Spring; a son, Damon Carter of Quanah; a brother, Pete Richey of Detroit; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Mrs. Slaughter was born and raised in Hereford. She graduated from Hereford High School. She moved to Plainview in the 1960s then to Edmonson in 1976. She had been employed by Hamby and retired in 1992. She married Orval D. Slaughter in 1976 in Edmonson. Golda Mae Larue DUMAS - Golda Mae Larue, 87, died Friday, Feb. 27, 1998. Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday in N.S. Mrs. Larue was born in Spavinaw, Okla. She and her husband owned the Larue Grocery in Amarillo for 14 years. She was a member of the Amarillo Garden Club and past president of the South Amarillo Garden Club. She married Leo Larue in 1929 at Sayre, Okla. He died in 1985. Survivors include a son, Darrell Larue of Leslie, Ark.; two grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and a great-greatgrandson. Elva Maggie McKenzie PANHANDLE - Elva Maggie McKenzie, 84, died Friday, Feb. 27, 1998. She was a homemaker and member of First Baptist Church. She married Lester McKenzie in 1936 at Sayre, Okla. She was preceded in death by a son, Donald McKenzie, in 1982. Survivors include her husband; a daughter, Paula Jo Grigsby of Fort Worth; a brother, Carl Smith of Mississippi; a sister, Dora Wolfe of Panhandle; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. She had been a Pampa resident since 1984. She had married Earl Jordon in 1958 at Amarillo. He preceded her in death. Survivors include a daughter, Brenda Lee Lucas of Houston; a sister, Vera Marie Gonzalez of Lefors; two brothers, Bill Provence and Leonard Provence, both of Pampa; and two grandchildren. Frankie Long MORTON - Frankie Long, 84, died Saturday, Feb. 28, 1998. Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday in First Baptist Church with the Rev. Danny Jackson, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Morton Memorial Cemetery by Ellis Funeral Home of Muleshoe. Mrs. Long was born in Carey. She moved to Morton from Memphis in 1939. She was a homemaker and member of First Baptist Church where she was a nursery attendant for many years. She was honored as Morton's Woman of the Year in 1988. Mrs. Long owned a flower shop. She was employed by St. Clair's department store and Ben Franklins as a salesman. She also was employed by the Senior Companion Program. She married Horace Graham Long in 1933 at Childress. He died in 1976. Survivors include two daughters, Erma Williams and Linda Huckabee, both of Morton; a brother, Edd Mills of Childress; five grandsons; and six great-grandchildren. Memorial services will be in Minneapolis. Burial will be in Fort Snelling. Arrangements are by Sizemore Funeral Home. Mrs. Williams was born in Grand Forks, N.D., and grew up on a farm in Mapes, N.D. She graduated from Lakota High School in 1945 and served in the Cadet Nurse Corps during World War II for 21/2 years. She moved to Amarillo in 1965 and to Kerrville in 1972. Mrs. Williams worked in the medical field for 46 years, retiring from the Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center in 1989. She was preceded in death by two sons, Scott and Joe Jr., and by two husbands, Dean Haugen and Joe T. Williams. Survivors include two daughters, Shelley Caldwell and Shirley Streetman; a sister, Sandra Turner; a brother, Harris Nelson; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and a friend, James Tart of St. Paul, Minn. Burial will be in Plainview Memorial Park in Plainview by Franklin-Bartlett Funeral Home. Mrs. Perry was born in Lincoln County, Tenn. She moved to Big Lake in Ragan County when she was 6. She was valedictorian of her graduating class in Hale Center. She married Tom Perry in 1949. They lived in Olton and Bovina before moving to Lubbock in 1963. Mrs. Perry worked in the family insurance business. She had been a member of the Progressive Study Club since 1965. She also was an active member of Oakwood Baptist Church. Survivors include her husband; a son, Mike Perry of Amarillo; a sister, Harlene Wery of Michigan; and two granddaughters. The family will be at 3308 75th St. in Lubbock. Lucia Ann Ritchey SILVERTHORNE, Colo. - Lucia Ann Ritchey, 17, died Wednesday, Feb. 25, 1998. Services were at 1 p.m. Saturday in Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church in Dillon Valley with the Rev. Leo Smith, the Rev. John Kauffman and the Rev. Jack Murray officiating. Arrangements were by Hennigan Funeral Home of Idaho Springs. Miss Ritchey was born in Kremmling, Summit County. She attended Silverthorne Elementary School, Summit County Christian School, Summit Middle School and Summit High School. She was involved in sports including basketball, soccer, volleyball, baseball and track. She helped teach and coach many of the county's children by coaching basketball and soccer and umpiring baseball. Miss Ritchey competed on the state track team during her freshman and sophomore years. She participated in the Active Teen program of the Summit County Catholic Community, where she was preparing for Confirmation. She worked as a baby sitter. She also was employed by the Silverthorne Village Inn and the family owned business, the Dial and Dine. Survivors include her parents, Marguerite and Geary Ritchey; a sister, Marguerite of the home; two brothers, Robert and John David, both of the home; and grandparents, Robert and Lila Milford of Marion, Ind., and Thomas Ritchey of Amarillo. She was a homemaker and member of the Primitive Baptist Church. She married Phil Raught in 1942 in Haskell. Nelson of Canton; a sister, Holla Mae Bullard of Pampa; and five grandchildren. Canyon Nola Mae Partridge Nola Mae Partridge, 79, of Canyon, died Friday, Feb. 27, 1998. Burial will be in Dreamland Cemetery by Brooks Funeral Directors of Canyon. Mrs. Partridge was born in Spanish Fort. She attended school at Spanish Fort until the age of 15, when she moved to Prairie Point in Montague County, where she lived for three years. She married Walter Partridge in 1936 at Nocona. They lived at Prairie Point until 1943, when they moved to Canyon. Mr. Partridge died in 1991. Mrs. Partridge worked for Monarch Tailor Shop from 1944 until retiring in 1968. She was the flower chairman at Calvary Baptist Church for 21 years. She taught Bible school for three years and the adult choir for 10 years. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Canyon. Survivors include a daughter, Jearlyn Ruth Simpson of Amarillo; a son, Bill R. Partridge of Edmond, Okla.; five sisters, Opal Case of Tulsa, Okla., Odessa Lindeman of Umbarger, Ossie Clary of Nocona, Ruth Brown of Amarillo and Maurine Abbott of Canyon; three brothers, the Rev. Oklahoma Bessie Mayfield GUYMON, Okla. - Bessie Mayfield, 84, a former Guymon and Texhoma resident, died Thursday, Feb. 26, 1998. Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Elmhurst Cemetery with the Rev. Clifton Wooldridge, pastor of Northside Church of the Nazarene in Fort Worth, officiating. Arrangements are by Henson-Novak Funeral Directors. Mrs. Mayfield was born in Liberal, Kan. She was raised in Texhoma and attended Texhoma High School. She married Bill Mayfield in 1932. They made their home in Texhoma before moving to Guymon in 1935. They later moved to Big Spring, Texas. After Mr. Mayfield's death in 1963, Mrs. Mayfield moved to Fort Worth, Texas. She was a member of the Guymon Rebekah Lodge. Survivors include her daughter, Billie Wooldridge of Fort Worth; a sister, Mildred McLean of Newton, Kan.; a brother, Kay Bartlett of Big Spring; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Rosary will be said at 7 p.m. today in the Dunn Funeral Home Memorial Chapel. Mass of the Resurrection will be offered at 10 a.m. Monday in Saint Ann's Catholic Church with the Rev. John C. Daniel officiating. Burial will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday in Santa Fe National Cemetery in Santa Fe. Mr. Vigil was born in San Jon. He was a World War II veteran of the Army serving from 1942 until 1946. He had been a Tucumcari resident since 1982. Mr. Vigil had been employed by the Clabber Hill Ranch and the Sims Ranch. Since the end of World War II, he had been employed by the Bell Ranch. He was a member of Saint Ann's Catholic Church. Survivors include two cousins, Ruben Vigil of Santa Fe and Frances Chacon of Tucumcari; an uncle, Antonio Vigil of Santa Fe; and an aunt, Mary Chacon of Clovis. Visitation will be until time of service Monday in the funeral home. Leland M. Jacobs CLAYTON, N.M. - Leland M. Jacobs, 81, died Thursday, Feb. 26, 1998. Services were at 2 p.m. Saturday in First Baptist Church with the Rev. Andy Husted, pastor of First United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial was in Clayton Memorial Cemetery by Hass Funeral Directors of Clayton. Mr. Jacobs was born in Hayden. He attended schools in Hayden, Clayton and Delphos, Kan., where he graduated from high school. He was a World War II veteran of the Army Air Corps. Mr. Jacobs was a rancher and owned L.M. Jacobs Wholesale, Al Texaco Station and JTC Trucking Co., in Clayton for 40 years. He served on the Clayton City Council for 20 years. He was a member of the American Legion and Clayton Lions Club. He was a Baptist. He married Ethel Elizabeth Jacobs in 1944 at Williams Field, Ariz. She preceded him in death in 1997. Survivors include two sons, J.W. Jacobs of Zapata, Texas, and Duane Jacobs of Fritch, Texas; a daughter, Cynthia "C.J." Bynum of LaVeta, Colo.; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Burial will be in Lawn Haven Cemetery in Clovis. Mrs. Snow was born, raised and attended schools in Clovis where her family were early settlers. With her husband, Gordon Wicks, she farmed and ran chicken hatcheries in Clovis and Portales for many years. She farmed and ranched in Utopia, Texas, after her second marriage then moved back to Clovis in 1965. She moved to Roswell in 1980 and had lived the past several years in Portales. She married C.B. Snow in 1954 at Natchez, Miss. Survivors include her husband; three sons, Frank Gordon Wicks Jr. of Hobbs, Harold Eugene Wicks of Clovis and James David Wicks of Tyler, Texas; five grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. Helen Lee Lambirth ELIDA, N.M. - Helen Lee Lambirth, died Friday, Feb. 27, 1998, in Fort Sumner. Mrs. Lambirth moved to Elida to teach in 1939. During World War II, she knitted countless scarves and caps for the servicemen. She was past president of the Elida Woman's Club. Mrs. Lambirth was a member of First Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School classes for many years, worked in the local and state Women's Missionary Union, played piano, and sang in the choir. In recent years, she had been a board member of the state Baptist Foundation. She married O.D. Lambirth in 1941 at Elida. He died in 1975. She also was preceded in death by a son, Lisle Lambirth, and a grandchild. Survivors include two sons, O.D. Lambirth III of Fountain Hills, Ariz., and Richard Lambirth of Hobbs; a daughter, Mary Nanne Chappell of Loveland, Colo.; a brother, Bob Shepard of Gilliam, Mo.; a sister, Margaret Malven of St. Louis, Mo.; seven grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. Harry E. Berger CLOVIS, N.M. - Harry E. Berger, 78, died Thursday, Feb. 26, 1998. Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday in Steed-Todd Funeral Home Chapel with Captain Trent Sigler, chaplain, officiating. Burial will be in Mission Garden of Memories Cemetery. Military honors conducted by Cannon Air Force Base Ceremonial Flight. Mr. Berger was born in St. Louis, Mo., and was a longtime resident of Clovis. He retired from the Air Force at Cannon Air Force Base in 1964. His awards and decorations include Good Conduct Medal with four bronze oak leaf clusters, American Defense Service medal, American Campaign medal, European AfricanMiddle Eastern Campaign medal, World War II Victory medal, National Defense Service medal, Korean Service medal, Air Force Longevity Service award ribbon with four bronze oak leaf clusters, and the United Nations Service medal. He married Marjorie Wolf in 1965 at Tucumcari. She died in 1994. He also was preceded in death by a daughter, Terri Berger, and a grandson. The family requests memorials be to the charity of one's choice. Claude W. Burkett CLOVIS, N.M. - Claude W. "Shorty" Burkett, 88, died Thursday, Feb. 26, 1998. Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday in Kingswood United Methodist Church with the Rev. Farrell Odom, Dr. Herbert Bergstrom and BPO Elks No. 1244 officiating. Burial will be in Elida Cemetery in Elida by Steed-Todd Funeral Home of Clovis. Mr. Burkett was born in Sabinal, Texas and raised in Paducah. He moved to Portales in 1930 then to Clovis in 1945. He was on the first football team at Eastern New Mexico University. He owned Burkett-Mayflower Moving and Storage from 1947 until 1982. Mr. Burkett was a member of BPO Elks No. 1244 where he served as past Exalted Ruler and district deputy. He served as state president of New Mexico Elks. The Elks honored him by naming their golf tournament after him which has been an annual event for the past 22 years. Mr. Burkett was a member of New Mexico Warehouseman Association and Southwest Warehouseman Association, serving as president of both. He was a member of the Committee of Fifty, New Mexico Motor Carriers, a past president of Noonday Lion's Club, and had served as Curry County Commissioner for two years. He married Frances McCowen in 1935 at Clovis. Survivors include his wife; three daughters, Claudette Stager and Betty Steinbock, both of Clovis, and Mary Heitman of Fallon, Ill.; a son, Tommy Burkett of Clovis; a sister, Dee Williams of Diamond Bar, Calif.; seven grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
