Grimes CHILDRESS - Cleo F. Grimes, 90, died Thursday, Oct. 1, 1998. Services will be at 3 p.m. today in Johnson Funeral Home with Bill Mayes of Childress Church of Christ officiating. Burial will be in Tell Cemetery at Tell. Mrs. Grimes had worked for the Department of Human Services at Paducah and taught school at Pen Creek, Northfield and the Tell communities. She was a member of Childress Church of Christ. She married Ray Grimes in 1933 at Childress. He preceded her in death. She also was preceded in death by a son, Larry Grimes. She is survived by a daughter-in-law, Sandy Grimes of Childress; several grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren. Steven Todd Mason PAMPA - Steven Todd Mason, 24, of Duncan, Okla., died Wednesday, Sept. 30, 1998. Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in Carmichael-Whatley Colonial Chapel in Pampa with the Rev. Gene Allen, former pastor of Briarwood Full Gospel Church of Pampa, officiating. Burial will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery. Mr. Mason was born in Pampa. He lived in Duncan where he was employed as a roofer. He was preceded in death by a brother, Devin Mason. Survivors include Tommy and Margaret Mason of Duncan; a sister, Kelley Ann Ferguson of Duncan; and his grandparents, Delora Mason of Lawton, Okla., and Mr. and Mrs. Wesley Prine of Midland. Glenn W. Gatewood SUDAN - Glenn W. Gatewood, 80, died Wednesday, Sept. 30, 1998. Graveside services will be at 3 p.m. Saturday in Sudan Cemetery with Pat Kent and Billy Tiller, both of First Baptist Church, officiating. Arrangements are by Ellis Funeral Home of Sudan. Mr. Gatewood was born in Vernon. He moved to Sudan in 1937 from Odell where he graduated from high school in 1936. He attended the University of Texas at Austin and served in the Army during World War II. Mr. Gatewood was a farmer who owned and operated Gatewood Motor Company in Sudan and Earth. He was a member of Sudan Rotary Club. He married Louise Stuart in 1941 at El Paso. Survivors include his wife; two sons, Ronald Stuart Gatewood and Gary Grant Gatewood Sr., both of Sudan; a daughter, Glenna Anne Bridwell of Houston; a sister, Doris Warren of Jackson, Miss.; 10 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. The family suggests memorials be to Sudan EMS of Sudan, Texas. Jack Mitchell Gfeller DIMMITT - Jack Mitchell Gfeller, 19, died Wednesday, Sept. 30, 1998. Mr. Gfeller was a lifetime resident of Dimmitt. Paul Lowrie Mathews SUDAN - Paul Lowrie Mathews, 83, died Thursday, Oct. 1, 1998. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. today in Sudan Church of Christ with Nathan Crawford, pastor of Church of Christ of Lazbuddie, officiating. Burial will be in Littlefield Memorial Park by Hammons Funeral Home. Mr. Mathews was born in Vernon. He graduated from Sudan High School in 1932 and entered the Army in 1941 where he served in the medical corps at Fort Bliss. He was a member of the Sudan Church of Christ and farmed in the area for more than 60 years. He married Ruby McCaghren in 1949. She preceded him in death in 1974. Survivors include two nephews, Kenneth Mathews and Scott Pepper, both of Claude; and four nieces, Sharla Echols of Patricia, Quinelle Pickrell of Sudan, Hoycille Valentine of Lubbock and Donna Logsdon of Midland. The family suggests memorials be to Sudan EMS. Willard Kenneth Weinett BOOKER - Willard Kenneth Weinett, 83, a former Booker resident, died Wednesday, Sept. 30, 1998. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in Heart Cemetery with the Rev. Monte Kreis officiating. Arrangements are by Good Samaritan Funeral Service of Booker. Mr. Weinett was born in Lipscomb and attended the Gilloou Country School. He later attended high school in Edinburgh. He moved to Booker in 1942 where he was a farmer and rancher. In 1973, he retired and moved to Foss Lake, Okla. He married Hattie Walter in 1938 at Edinburgh. Survivors include his wife; a son, Don Weinett of Booker; a daughter, Shirley Lewis of Foss; three grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. Nell Burke SPEARMAN - Nell Burke, 82, died Thursday, Oct. 4, 1998. Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in Church of Christ with James Kinnaird of Gruver Church of Christ, officiating. Burial will be in Hansford Cemetery by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Home. Mrs. Burke was born in Waka and was a lifetime resident of the area. She retired in 1982 after 12 years as janitor of Spearman schools. She was a member of Church of Christ of Spearman. She married Clarence Burke in 1937 at Beaver, Okla. He died in 1981. Survivors include two sons, Jessie W. Burke and Don Burke, both of Spearman; two daughters, Pat Fisher of Burkburnett and Nancy Long of Enid, Okla.; a sister, Grace Kunkel of Phoenix; seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Amarillo Jackie Nicole Barrientez Jackie Nicole Barrientez, 19-month-old daughter of Juan and Patricia Barrientez, of Amarillo, died Tuesday, Sept. 29, 1998. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. today in Llano Cemetery with Coy Wylie, associate pastor of Cornerstone Baptist Church, officiating. Arrangements are by Rector Funeral Home, 2800 S. Osage. Jackie was born in Amarillo. Survivors include her parents; two sisters, Shannon Marie Barrientez and Anna Marie Barrientez, both of the home; four brothers, Anthony Barrientz, Michael Barrientz, Matthew Barrientz and Aaron Barrientz, all of the home; grandparents, Juan and Maria Barrientez of Amarillo and Paul and Jean Nagunst of Amarillo; and great-grandfather, Enemencio Barrientez of Amarillo. The family will be at 4401 S. Austin. Mary Ann Riley Mary Ann Riley, 69, of Amarillo, died Monday, Sept. 28, 1998. Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday in Citizens Cemetery in Clarendon. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2820 Virginia Circle. Mrs. Riley was born in Clarendon and raised on the Flying Diamond Ranch. She had lived in Amarillo since 1970. She was a homemaker until her children were grown. Then she attended school to obtain her license as a vocational nurse. She retired as a LVN and was a Baptist. Survivors include two daughters, Jan Evans of Lubbock and Vickie Lynn Riley of Amarillo; a son, Jim Riley of Atlanta; her mother, Ruby Mae Bromley of Amarillo; three grandchildren; and a great-grandchild. The body will not be available for viewing. Morgan J. Bagley Morgan J. Bagley, 81, died Tuesday, Sept. 29, 1998, at Collinsville, Okla. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. today in Memory Gardens Mausoleum with the Rev. Claud Tugwelll, retired minister, officiating. Arrangements are by Schooler-Gordon Funeral Directors, 5400 Bell St. Mr. Bagley was born in Comanche, Okla., and moved to Amarillo in 1947. He was an Army veteran and a Baptist. He was employed as a truck driver. He married Florence McKinney in 1942 at Comanche. He was preceded in death by his wife in 1988 and by a daughter, Justine Campbell, in 1993. Survivors include a son, Michael Bagley of Collinsville, Okla.; a daughter, Elaine McDade of New Braunfels; a sister, Betty Bagley of California; five grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. The family suggests memorials be to Cal Farley's Boys Ranch of Amarillo. Margie Bedwell Margie Bedwell, 80, of Amarillo, died Thursday, Oct. 1, 1998. Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in N.S. Griggs & Sons Funeral Directors, Pioneer Chapel, 2615 Paramount Blvd., with the Rev. Leon Green, pastor of Bolton Street Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Mrs. Bedwell was born in Dierks, Ark., and moved to Amarillo in 1941. She operated a nursing home out of her home for many years and was a nurse for 10 years at Elizabeth Jane Bivins Nursing Home. She was a member of Bolton Street Baptist Church. She married Andrew Bedwell in 1936 in Arkansas. He died in 1991. Survivors include two sons, Dean Bedwell of Amarillo and Von Bedwell of Corpus Christi; three sisters, Emma Lee Short of Mena, Ark., Farris Sharp of Texarkana and Clarise Holland of Fort Smith, Ark.; five grandchildren; and five greatgrandchildren. The family will be at 4223 Langtry. They suggest memorials be to Bolton Street Baptist Church. Oklahoma Steve R. Johnson MIDWEST CITY, Okla. - Steve R. Johnson, 54, died Wednesday, Sept. 30, 1996, at Oklahoma City. Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in Asa Smith Funeral Service Chapel at Harrah. Burial will be in Memory Lane Cemetery at Harrah. Mr. Johnson was born in Amarillo. He was retired from the Department of Human Services and was employed at the Hertz Corp. Survivors include his wife, Barbara; a daughter, Regina Downs of Midwest City; his parents, Horace Dean and Lily Tyler Johnson of Amarillo; and two grandchildren. New Mexico Lena Lee CLOVIS, N.M. - Lena Lee, 98, died Wednesday, Sept. 30, 1998. Services will be at 2 p.m. today in Steed-Todd Funeral Home with Dr. Herbert Bergstrom officiating. Burial will be in Mission Garden of Memories. Mrs. Lee was born in Bolivar, Mo. She married Forest Lee in 1916 and they homesteaded in Curry County. They lived in a half dugout and farmed with a team of mules. They later farmed near Claude, Texas. They moved to Clovis in 1937. She was a charter member of the Claude Rainy Day Extension Club and was a member of the WIBC Bowling Association. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1963, two sons and a daughter. Survivors include a daughter, Dorothy Zelle of Clovis; a brother, Chick Graham of Truth or Consequences; five grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren. The family requests memorials in lieu of flowers be to a favorite charity. They will be at 1308 Piedmont Drive. Jerrye Sue Rusk TUCUMCARI, N.M. - Jerrye Sue Rusk, 60, died Tuesday, Sept. 29, 1998. Services will be at 2 p.m. today in Dunn Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. John Mikow, minister of the Presbyterian Church, officiating. Burial will be in the family plot at Tucumcari Memorial Park Cemetery. Miss Rusk was born in Las Vegas, N.M., and had lived in Tucumcari most of her life. She attended Tucumcari schools. For a number of years, she worked at the Robinson Insurance Agency. At the time of her death, she was president of the Quay County Extension Counsel. She was instrumental in the organization and the operation of the Tucumcari Helping Hands Hospice. Survivors include a brother, Ralph Rusk of Dallas, Texas. The family requests memorials be to Tucumcari Helping Hands Hospice, 615 S. Second St., Tucumcari, N.M. The body will be available for viewing at the funeral home. Elsewhere George Wilburn Rhoads ASPERMONT - George Wilburn Rhoads, 70, died Wednesday, Sept. 30, 1998. Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in Rule Church of Christ with Tom Rhoads and John Greeson officiating. Burial will be in Old Glory Cemetery by McCoy Funeral Home of Aspermont. Mr. Rhoads was born in Haskell County. For several years, he taught at Old Glory School and was school superintendent for Stonewall County. He served as Stonewall County Judge in 1979 and then was administrator of the Stonewall Memorial Hospital from 1980 until 1984. He was a member of the Rule Church of Christ. He married Bernice Offill in 1959. Survivors include his wife of Old Glory; a son, Tom Rhoads of Houston; a daughter, Sherry Breeding of Amarillo; two brothers, Raymond Rhoads of Abilene and Clifford Rhoads of Munday; a sister, Maree Goodwin of Fritch; and three grandchildren. The family suggests memorials be to American Cancer Society. Laura Loyd Vermillion LUBBOCK - Laura Loyd Vermillion, 100, died Tuesday, Sept. 29, 1998. Private graveside services were held Thursday in City of Lubbock Cemetery with Rex C. Vermillion and Horace Coffman, minister of Church of Christ, officiating. Arrangements were by Sanders Funeral Home. Mrs. Vermillion was born in Millsap and moved to Lubbock in 1940. With her husband, she owned a grocery store in Lubbock for many years. She was a member of Broadway Church of Christ. She married Verner Vermillion in 1944 at Lubbock. He died in 1974. Survivors include a son, Rex Vermillion of Lubbock; a brother, Elmer Lide of Lubbock; a sister, Gertrude Priddy of Lubbock; two grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. The family suggests memorials be to Children's Home of Lubbock, P.O. Box 2824, Lubbock, TX 79408. J.E. Fleming LORENZO - J.E. Fleming, 78, of Lubbock and formerly of Lorenzo, died Wednesday, Sept. 30, 1998. Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in Lorenzo First United Methodist Church with the Rev. W.L. Armstrong of Whitney officiating. Burial will be in Resthaven Memorial Park by Adams Funeral Home. Mr. Fleming was born in Lynn County. During World War II, he served with the Army Air Corps in China, Burma and India. He was a member of First United Methodist Church of Lorenzo where he was superintendent for many years. He was active in the Boy Scouts, sports boosters and school boosters. Mr. Fleming was a member of the Democratic Party, serving as delegate on both state and local levels. He was a member of the Lorenzo Masonic Lodge No. 1341. In 1991, he moved to Lubbock. He married Margie Mae Stanley in 1947 at Caps. Survivors include his wife; a son, Mike Fleming of Bryan; three daughters, Sandy Naslund of Amarillo, Debbie Gainer of Austin and Christy Lacy of Midland; a brother, Elmer Dwayne Fleming of Half Way; five sisters, Vera Meeks of Shallowater, Mary Baker of Arlington, Martha Hobbs of Lubbock, Pearl Walker of Littlefield and Wanda Jackson of Odessa; 10 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
