He worked for the Pampa Independent School District for 20 years. He had been a member of First Baptist Church and also drove its bus. Services will be at 2 p.m. today in Abernathy First Baptist Church with the Rev. Willie Bolton, pastor of Bethel Baptist Church, and the Rev. C.C. Peoples officiating. Burial will be in Abernathy Cemetery by Abell Funeral Home. Mr. Dixon was born in Lubbock. He and his family moved to Abernathy in 1987. He was a sophomore at Abernathy High School and was involved in athletics. He was a member of Bethel Baptist Church. Survivors include his father, Michael Dixon of Lubbock; two brothers, Kendrick D. Dixon and Eric B. Dixon, both of Abernathy; and grandmothers, Artavie Bradley of Abernathy and Daisy Dixon of Lubbock. Carolyn Mozelle Purcell DALHART - Carolyn Mozelle Purcell, 80, died Saturday, Jan. 31, 1998. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Friday in Memorial Park Cemetery with the Rev. Sammie Rainey, pastor of Wesley United Methodist Church of Borger, officiating. Arrangements are by Hass Funeral Home Inc. Mrs. Purcell was born in Munday and raised in Silverton. She graduated from Silverton High School in 1934 and moved to Dalhart in 1948. She was a nurse and a lab technician. She had worked for Coon Memorial Hospital at Dalhart and Cimarron Memorial hospital at Boise City for many years. She was an active member of Lakeview United Methodist Church and also of the Emmaus Community. She married K.C. "Shorty" Purcell in 1959. He died in 1983. Theron Delmar Vaughan LAZBUDDIE - Theron Delmar Vaughan, 78, died Sunday, Jan. 24, 1998. Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday in Lazbuddie Baptist Church. Arrangements are by Memorial Park Funeral Home, 6969 E. Interstate 40, in Amarillo. Mr. Vaughan was born in Rolla, Mo., and raised in Lazbuddie. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in Belgium and France. He returned to Lazbuddie 53 years ago. He married Beatrice Martin in Indianapolis. He was preceded in death by a son, Larry Dean Vaughan. Survivors include his wife; a son, Theron Delmar Vaughan of Austin; a daughter, Sheila Allen-May of Amarillo; two sisters, Tomi Hutchison of Vici, Okla., and Nola Trieder of Lazbuddie; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Services will be at 2 p.m. today in Hamlin Memorial United Methodist Church with the Rev. Beth Hamilton officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Terrace by Steed-Todd Funeral Home of Clovis, N.M. Mr. Lovelace was born in Vernon. He owned and operated Lovelace Oil for more than 40 years before retiring 12 years ago. He served as city commissioner of Farwell and supported the youth and sports activities. He was a member of Hamlin Memorial Methodist Church and the Texico, N.M., and Farwell Lions Club. Survivors include a daughter, Diane Mayes of Houston; two sisters, Iona Hamilton of Lubbock and Merle Norris of Clovis; a brother, John Lovelace of Farwell; and a granddaughter. Burial will be in Parklawn Memorial Gardens by Lemons Funeral Home. Mrs. Shugart was born in Grayson County. She grew up and attended school in O'Dell. She married L.P. Shugart in 1948 at Vernon. She was involved in farming until 1951. She was a member of TOPS, the Promenaders Square Dance Club, the Home Demonstration Club and Northside Baptist Church. She was a longtime member of the PTA. Mrs. Shugart was preceded in death by a son, Mac Shugart, in 1987. Survivors include her husband; a daughter, Carolyn Pinkerton of Plainview; a son, Lloyd Shugart of Plainview; a brother, Crayton Adams of Dallas; two sisters, Sib Dyer of Lubbock and Era Turpen of Fort Worth; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Mary June Walters PAMPA - Mary June Walters, 75, died Sunday, Feb. 1, 1998. Mrs. Walters was born in Greenville and had been a resident of Pampa since 1952. She was a homemaker and a member of Central Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Riley S. Irene Mae Eck BORGER - Irene Mae Eck, 87, of Tucson, Ariz., a former Borger-area resident, died Wednesday, Jan. 28, 1998. Graveside services will be at 3 p.m. Wednesday in the Garden of Devotion at Westlawn Memorial Park by Minton / Chatwell Funeral Directors. Mrs. Eck was born in Manson, Ark. She grew up in Canadian. She married Marshall Eck in 1942 at Canadian. They lived in Waynoka, Okla., for 13 years before moving to Texas. She was a homemaker and a member of the Church of God. She was the organist at the Fritch Church of the Nazarene for many years. Mrs. Eck was preceded in death by her husband in 1981. Survivors include a daughter, Phyllis Dennis of Tucson; a sister, Elsie Duniven of Dumas; a brother, Arthur Lee Laughry of Bartlesville, Okla.; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Mrs. Hall was born in Pike and had been a longtime Childress resident. She was a homemaker. She married A.L. "Shorty" Hall in 1932 at Childress. He died in 1996. Survivors include a son, A.L. He married Myrtle Marie Davis in 1941 at Wellington. He retired as a truck driver for the city of Amarillo. He was a member of San Jacinto Assembly of God. Survivors include his wife; two sons, Royce L. Campbell and Larry Joe Campbell, both of Amarillo; three brothers, J.C. The family requests memorials be to the Alzheimer's Association. R.G. Peeler R.G. Peeler, 91, of Amarillo, died Monday, Feb. 2, 1998. Mr. Peeler was born in Robertson County and had lived in Amarillo for five years. He was an engineer / production manager for Stanolind Oil & Gas Co. before retiring. He then leased farmland in Hereford, where he lived for 35 years. Mr. Peeler was past president of the U.S. Feed Grain Council, serving for 20 years. He was the founding director and past president of the National Grain Sorghum Producers Association and past director of Hereford State Bank. He was an honorary member of the Easter Lions Club and a life member of the Khiva Temple. He was a member of the Hereford Rotary Club and First Presbyterian Church in Hereford. Mr. Peeler married Claudine Pope in 1936 at Amarillo. Survivors include his wife; a brother, Pat Peeler of Rosebud; and a sister, Pauline Smith of Bryan. Alma Anderson Alma Anderson, 94, of Amarillo, died Monday, Feb. 2, 1998. Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Grand Avenue Baptist Church with the Rev. Allen Norris of Immanuel Baptist Church and the Rev. Calvin Powell of Grand Avenue Baptist Church officiating. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Rowe Cemetery at Hedley by Schooler Funeral Home Inc., 4100 S. Georgia St. Mrs. Anderson was born in Talco. Her family moved to Hedley when she was young. She married Lee H. Anderson in 1929 at Hollis, Okla. They moved to Amarillo in 1940. They did not have children of their own, but they did help many children obtain an education. Mr. Anderson died in 1986. Mrs. Anderson worked many years in the dry cleaning industry. She was a homemaker and a longtime member of Grand Avenue Baptist Church. Survivors include three sisters, Kate Harris of Lubbock, Opal Darnell of Clarendon and Thelma Hill of Hedley. Mrs. Cowley was born in Winters. She married E.B. Cowley in 1939 at Coleman. Survivors include her husband; two sons, Don Cowley of Los Angeles and Richard Cowley of Santa Barbara, Calif.; a daughter, Nancy Cowley of San Marcos; two sisters, Nona Davis of San Antonio and Eloise Griggs of Moore, Okla.; and two grandsons. Oklahoma W.D. Stewart HOLLIS, Okla. - W.D. "Dub" Stewart, 78, died Monday, Feb. 2, 1998. Services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday in the Hollis Church of Christ with Bill Osborne and Roger Grice, ministers, officiating. Burial will be in Erick Cemetery at Erick by Stewart Funeral Service. Mr. Stewart was born in Erick and had been a resident of Hollis since 1955. He farmed in the Bethel community near Hollis. He was an original stockholder in the Motley Gin of Hollis. He was an engineer for the Department of Agriculture for 32 years in southwest Oklahoma before retiring in 1973. He was a Church of Christ elder and minister and had preached in several area churches. He also traveled on church mission trips to China and Canada. Mr. Stewart married Mae Ola Moore in 1941 at Erick. Survivors include his wife; a son, Dr. Wayne Stewart of Goodwell; two brothers, Bob Stewart of Amarillo and Bill Stewart of Lubbock, Texas; three grandchildren; and a great-grandson.
