Laverne Hinson officiating. Burial was in Memory Gardens Cemetery. Mrs. Martin was born in Row, Okla. She attended school in Hopkins, Pampa and White Deer. She had been a resident of Pampa since 1930. She was a homemaker and worked for the Hi-Way Cafe, Heard & Jones Pharmacy and Malone Pharmacy. She was a member of the Church of the Brethren. She married Lawrence Clifford Martin in 1935 at Sayre, Okla. He died in 1987. Survivors include a son, Charles Leon "Charlie" Martin of Pampa; a daughter, Judy Anderson of Pampa; a sister, Billie Jean James of Pampa; five grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; two stepgrandsons; and a stepgreat-grandson. Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Friday in Northlawn Memorial Gardens Cemetery with Art Lynch, minister of First Street Church of Christ of Dumas, officiating. Arrangements are by Morrison Funeral Directors. Mr. Harvey was born in Lone Wolf, Okla. He was an Army veteran of World War II. Formerly a Hawthorne, Calif., resident for 40 years, he had lived in Dumas since 1976. In 1974, Mr. Harvey retired after 29 years as master printer and plate maker for Continental Can Co., of Los Angeles. He was a member of the Dumas Veterans of Foreign Wars No. 9022. He married Juanita Whitley in 1988 at Dumas. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Ellen Harvey. Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Lois Roland of Sharon, Pa.; a stepdaughter, Mary Smith of Lubbock; four stepsons, Joe Whitely of Bloomfield, N.M., Eddie Whitley of Amarillo, Les Whitley of Taloga, Okla., and Wes Whitley of Dumas; and three grandchildren. The family will be at 609 S. Maddox in Dumas. They suggest memorials be to a favorite charity. Mae Stanton HALE CENTER - Mae Stanton, 84, died Tuesday, Sept. 1, 1998. Services will be at 3 p.m. today in First Baptist Church of Hale Center with Silas Short, minister of Church of Christ in Odonnell, officiating. Burial will be in Plainview Cemetery by Freeman-Abell Funeral Home. Mrs. Stanton was born in Canadian and moved to Hale Center as a child. She was seamstress for the Village Shop in Plainview and was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Plainview. She was preceded in death by two daughters, Nancy Carla Stanton, in 1951, and Jane Anne Stanton in 1988. Survivors include a son, Tommy Gene Stanton of Amarillo; a brother, Lee Dent of Hale Center; and a sister, Jean Ballinger of Plainview. Morris W. Barton WELLINGTON - Morris W. Barton, 82, died Wednesday, Sept. 2, 1998. Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday in First Baptist Church with the Rev. James McLeod, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery by Adams Funeral Home. Mr. Barton was born and raised in the Crossroads community of Collingsworth County and attended school there. He was an Army veteran of World War II. He worked as a correctional officer for the state of Florida for 15 years, then returned to Wellington in 1961. Mr. Barton was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion. He also was a member of First Baptist Church. He married Rebecca Brammer in 1974 at Shamrock. His first marriage was to Cora Godwin in 1944 at Starke, Fla. She died in 1971. He also was preceded in death by a stepson, Dennis Brammer. Survivors include his wife; four sons, John Barton of Wellington, William Barton of Amarillo, Wayne Barton of Decatur and Marion Barton of Augusta, Ga.; four stepsons, Carl Brammer of Van Buren, Ark., Leon Brammer of Rudy, Ark., Hugh Brammer of Hackensack, N.J., and Jewel Brammer of Martinsville, Mo.; four stepdaughters, Jean Townly of Alameda, Calif., Faye Wilson of Pleasanton, Calif., Edna Baker of Hayward, Calif., and Yvonne Ellis of Childress; a sister, Marie Woods of Hollywood, Calif.; four brothers, Bob Barton, Raymond Barton, George Barton and Gus Barton, all of Wellington; nine grandchildren; 21 step-grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and 39 stepgreat-grandchildren. The family requests memorials be to Prayer Ministry of the First Baptist Church. Johnnie Leathers Howell PADUCAH - Johnnie Leathers Howell, 82, died Monday, Aug. 31, 1998. Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday in First United Methodist Church in Paducah with the Rev. Jeff Utter, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in the Garden of Memories Cemetery by Seigler Funeral Home. Mrs. Howell was born in Cottle County. With her husband, she operated a movie theater in Paducah for many years and also farmed. She was a member of First United Methodist Church and a life member of United Methodist Women. She was a Texas life member of the Parent-Teachers Association, a life master in bridge and helped organize the Paducah Duplicate Bridge Club in 1963. Her first marriage was to H.B. "Red" Leathers in 1938. He died in 1963. She married Hobson R. Howell in 1968. He died in 1993. Survivors include two daughters, Brenda Lackey of San Antonio and Paula Kohan of Dallas; a stepson, Michael Howell of New York City; a sister, Sybil Jones of Dallas; and three grandchildren. Amarillo LaNoria Bonner LaNoria Bonner, 67, of Amarillo, died Monday, Aug. 31, 1998. Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday in Mount Zion Baptist Church with the Rev. Hughes St. Mrs. Bonner was born and raised in Amarillo. She attended public schools here and graduated from Carver High School. She attended Huston-Tillotson College for two years. She married Lawrence Bonner in 1951. Post, 82, of Abilene, and a former Amarillo resident, died Monday, Aug. 31, 1998. Graveside services will be at 3:30 p.m. Friday in Memorial Park Cemetery. He retired from the city of Amarillo and was a Baptist. He married his wife, Maxine, in 1938 at Crosbyton. Survivors include three daughters, Linda Sue Pippins, Bonnie Carol Tolbert and Bobbie Jo Starker, all of Abilene; 10 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren. The family will be at 3802 S. Taylor. They suggest memorials be to Hospice of the Big Country in Abilene. Vernie Potter Vernie Potter, 95, of Amarillo, died Wednesday, Sept. 2, 1998. Arrangements are by Schooler-Gordon Funeral Directors, 5400 Bell St. Mrs. Potter was born in San Jon, N.M. She moved to Amarillo in 1926 from Broadview, N.M. She was employed as a hospital cook. She was a member of Friendship Baptist Church and the Women's Missionary Union. She married Roy Potter, who preceded her in death in 1972. She is survived by a nephew, Leslie Reese of Amarillo; and a niece, Martha Percell of Grapevine. The family will be at 5747 Wabash. William C. Wall William C. Wall, 84, of Amarillo, died Wednesday, Sept. 2, 1998. Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday in Central Church of Christ with Paul Sneed, minister, officiating. Burial will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery by Schooler-Gordon Funeral Directors, 5400 Bell St. Mr. Wall was born in Fort Stockton. He was a longtime Amarillo resident, having moved here from Pecos. In 1997, he retired after 26 years as a restaurateur and owner of the Hickory Inn BBQ Restaurant. Mr. Wall was a member of Central Church of Christ. He was past master of the San Jacinto Masonic Lodge No. 1330, a 32nd degree Mason and member of Khiva Shrine Temple. He is survived by a niece, Jamie Clayton of Abilene. Services will be at 10 a.m. today in Steed-Todd Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Bill Sylskar officiating. Burial will be in Lawn Haven Memorial Gardens. Mr. Murphy was born in Fort Robinson, Neb. He served in the Army Air Corps during World War II and the Air Force in Vietnam, retiring after 23 years as chief master sergeant. He was a member of First United Methodist Church and Masonic Lodge. He married Virginia LeSueur in 1946 at Scottsbluff, Neb. Survivors include his wife; and a daughter, Vicki Murphy of San Diego. Clarice Long PORTALES, N.M. - Clarice "Grandma" Long, 67, died Sunday, Aug. 30, 1998, at Las Vegas, Nev. Services will be at 10 a.m. today in Wheeler Mortuary Chapel with the Rev. Roger Johnson and the Rev. Jerry Cochran officiating. Burial will be in Portales Cemetery. Mrs. Long was born in Dodsonville, Texas, and spent many of her younger years in the Childress, Texas, area. She married Earl A. Long in 1948 at Wheeler, Texas. They made their home in Texas and Oklahoma and also in California. While living in California, she worked for the Shasta Trailer factory. She moved to the Portales area in 1980. Survivors include her husband; four sons, Carson Long of Portales, Sanford Long of Kansas City, Mo., Steven Long of Checotah, Okla., and Charles Long of Bartlesville, Okla.; three daughters, Alta Joan Miller of Clinton, Ohio, Sandra Lee of Scottsdale, Ariz., and Mary Reuland of Portales; two brothers, Bruce Cochran of Portales and Allen Cochran of Clovis; 14 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. Drue Best PORTALES, N.M. - Drue Best, 92, died Monday, Aug. 31, 1998. Services will be at 4 p.m. today in Wheeler Mortuary Chapel with the Rev. Lewis Johnson and the Rev. Kenneth Dunsworth officiating. Burial will be in Portales Cemetery. Mr. Best was born in Bronte, Texas, and moved with his family to Odonnell, Texas, where they lived until he was a teen-ager. They moved to New Mexico and settled near Delphos. Later his dad filed a claim near Kenna, where Drue worked on several ranches in the area including the Crosby Ranch, the Good Ranch and the McCombs Ranch. In 1926, they moved to Portales, where he first worked for Jack Grimes at the feed mill. He later bought a dray line. He hauled coal, sand and gravel, bricks, cement, lumber, and groceries. For 40 years, he hauled baled cotton to Muleshoe. Mr. Best served on the city council for 17 years. He was a member of the Odd Fellows and University Baptist Church. He married Annie Hatch in 1930 at Clovis. Survivors include his wife; a son, Drue Best of Portales; three daughters, Quida Haywood of Snyder, Texas, Mona Johnston of Lubbock, Texas, and Betty Jo Gray of Portales; 10 grandchildren; and 25 great-grandchildren. Oklahoma Doris Gibson HOOKER, Okla. - Doris Gibson, 82, died Monday, Aug. 31, 1998. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. today in First Baptist Church with the Rev. Lloyd Riddles of Sunset Lane Baptist Church of Guymon officiating. Burial will be in Hooker Cemetery by Roberts Brothers Funeral Home. Mrs. Gibson was born in Lebanon, Kan., and moved to Adams in 1920, where she attended the OK School. In 1934, she graduated from Adams High School and in 1939 earned her bachelor of science degree in education for home economics from Panhandle A&M. During World War II, she worked in the defense plant at Wichita, Kan., for two years before moving to Oklahoma City, where she continued her defense work until the end of the war. Mrs. Gibson moved to Tyrone, where she taught school. Later, she taught in Goltry while working on her master's degree at Oklahoma State University. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Hooker. She married C.L. "Hoot" Gibson in 1946 at Dodge City, Kan. He died in 1992. Survivors include three sons, Terry Lee of Las Vegas, Stanley Thomas of Hooker and Jackie Devon of Tyrone; her sister, Thelma Mendenhall of Baker; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. He worked for Michigan-Wisconsin as a pumper for 18 years, retiring in 1969. He later worked for Guymon Motor Parts and the Guymon school system. He was a member of the Assembly of God. He married Lottie Elaine Thomas in 1935 at Payne Springs, Texas. They moved to Guymon in 1969 from Jena, La. Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Juanita Charlaine Kneeland of Guymon; two sons, Richard Brady of Beaumont, Texas, and Glenn Brady of Arlington, Texas; a sister, Ruth Tull of Coleman, Texas; six grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren. He was a self-employed salesman and a member of the Elks Lodge. He married Mercy "Blossom" Rodriguez in 1965 at Perryton, Texas. He was preceded in death by a son, Joseph Martinez. Zelma J. Wright GUYMON, Okla. - Zelma J. Wright, 96, died Wednesday, Sept. 2, 1998. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in Elmhurst Cemetery with the Rev. Mrs. Wright was born in Waxahachie, Texas, and moved to Madill in 1908. The family moved to Guymon in 1915 where she attended school. She was a member of Victory Memorial United Methodist Church, the American Legion Auxiliary and the Order of the Eastern Star. She married Thomas F. Wright in 1920 at Guymon. He died in 1969. Survivors include a daughter, Fontaine Hays of Guymon; a son, Jim F. Wright of Oklahoma City; six grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandson. Mr. Anthony was born and raised in Post where he attended schools. He served in the Army during the Korean War. He was a professional truck driver employed by Omega Transportation. He was a Baptist. He married Gayle Dillard in 1961 at Post. They had lived in Lubbock, Amarillo and Albuquerque, N.M. She died in 1991. In 1993, he married Harriet Henshall. Survivors include his wife; three sons, Greg and Jeff of Lubbock and Chris of Nashville, Tenn.; three stepsons, Travis Welch, Bryan Welch and Jayson Garner, all of Lubbock; his mother, Liberty Anthony of Post; and a sister, Kay Peoples of Amarillo. Dr. Joy Ann Anderson DALLAS - Dr. Joy Ann Anderson, 64, died Tuesday, Sept. 1, 1998. Memorial services will be at 1:30 p.m. Sunday in Restland Wildwood Chapel in Dallas. Arrangements are by Anderson-Clayton Brothers Funeral Home of Kaufman. Dr. Anderson was born in Fort Worth. She was a 1975 graduate of Texas Woman's University where she earned her doctorate in psychology. She had a private practice from 1977 until 1990 in Richardson. She was then the correctional psychologist for the John Lindsey State Jail Facility in Jacksboro and the Texas Department of Criminal Justice in Amarillo.
