Brown Anna M. Brown, 68, a former Amarillo resident, died Thursday, July 2, 1998. Graveside services will be at 3 p.m. Monday in Memory Gardens Cemetery with Dick Marcear, minister of Central Church of Christ officiating. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2820 Virginia Circle. Mrs. Brown was born in Duke, Okla., and had lived in Amarillo from 1965 until 1975. She moved to Abilene and later to the Dallas-Fort Worth area. She had been employed as a bookkeeper/dispatcher for a trucking company in Amarillo. Mrs. Brown retired in 1993 from the Dallas-Fort Worth Airport. She was a member of Beltline Church of Christ. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Patti Ann Whitten, and a son, Richard Dale Brown. Survivors include a son, Cliff Brown of Richardson; a brother, Ray Hulsey of Amarillo; and two grandchildren. William C. Samuels William C. "Sam" Samuels, 70, of Amarillo, died Friday, July 3, 1998. Services will be at 4 p.m. Monday in Saint Peter's Episcopal Church with the Rev. Frank Swindle, rector, officiating. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2820 Virginia Circle. Mr. Samuels was born in Louisville, Ky. He graduated from Fort Knox High School and received his bachelor of science degree from Memphis State University in 1952. He was a World War II veteran of the Army. Mr. Samuels moved to Amarillo in 1952 where he was employed by the U.S. Postal Service and taught at Amarillo Air Force Base. He served as interim secretary for the YMCA and sold insurance. In 1987, he retired from Sears where he had been in sales since 1965. Mr. Samuels had been a member of St. Peter's Episcopal Church since 1962. From 1962 until 1965, he served as commissioner of baseball for the YMCA. He married Pat Herring in 1950 at Memphis, Tenn. Survivors include his wife; three daughters, Patti Edmonson of Plano, and Nancy McKinley and Connie Reid, both of Amarillo; a brother, Ronnie Samuels of Parker; and six grandchildren. Juarine Peggy Word Juarine Peggy Word, 84, of Amarillo, died Thursday, July 2, 1998. Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Monday in Memory Gardens Cemetery with the Rev. Terry Tamplen of Kingwood United Methodist Church officiating. Arrangements are by Blackburn-Shaw Funeral Directors, Memorial Chapel, Fifth Avenue and Pierce St. Mrs. Word moved to Amarillo in 1955 from Phoenix. She was employed as a bookkeeper for Colberts & Graham Plow. In 1978, she retired as a unit clerk from St. Anthony's Hospital. She was a Methodist. Survivors include a daughter, Roberta Word Lansing of Canyon; a son, Robert H. Word Jr. of Amarillo; and three grandchildren. The family requests memorials be to Baptist St. Anthony's Hospice and Life Enrichment Center. Elsewhere Garland Ray Close LAS VEGAS, Nev. - Garland Ray Close, 67, died Wednesday, July 1, 1998. Services were at 4 p.m. Friday at Palm Mortuary-Cheyenne in Las Vegas. Mr. Close was born in Odell, Texas. He was an Air Force veteran of the Korean and Vietnam conflicts. He retired from the Air Force as chief master sergeant. Survivors include his wife, Sanae Close; his sister, Claudene Chessir of Amarillo; and special friends, James and Tamiko Schwalje of Las Vegas. Mary Louise Ledford HUGOTON, Kan. - Mary Louise Ledford, 66, died Thursday, July 2, 1998 in Amarillo. Services will be at 3 p.m. Sunday in Assembly of God Church in Hugoton with the Rev. Robert Bailey officiating. Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday in Reeve's Cemetery in Guion, Ark. Arrangements are by Paul's Funeral Home in Hugoton. Mrs. Ledford was born in Cromwell, Okla. She moved to Hugoton from Amarillo in 1969. She was a homemaker and member of Assembly of God Church in Hugoton. She married Marion Leon Ledford in 1949 at Oakhurst, Okla. He died in 1995. Survivors include three sons, James C. Ledford of Ashland, Kan., Marion L. Ledford Jr., of Alamogordo, N.M., and William A. Ledford of Amarillo; two daughters, Juanita Graham of Guymon, Okla., and Pamela Bensel of Hugoton; five brothers, Arthur Stevens of Fritch, Walter Stevens and Calvin Stevens, both of Sand Springs, Okla., and George Stevens and Albert Stevens, both of Tulsa; three sisters, Frances Griffith of Fritch and Dorthy Kane and Patricia Mackey, both of Sand Springs; 13 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. The family requests memorials be to Reeve's Cemetery or Assembly of God Church. Oklahoma Imogene C. Evans GUYMON, Okla. - Imogene C. Evans, 73, died Thursday, June 2, 1998. Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday in Bunch-Roberts Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. John Henry of the New Life Christian Center, the Rev. Read Barby and the Rev. Dick Powell officiating. Burial will be in Elmhurst Cemetery. Mrs. Evans was born in Wellington. The family moved to Guymon in 1935 from Midland. She retired in 1993 as a dietary aide for the Dunaway Manor. She attended the New Life Christian Center. She married William E. "Bill" Evans in 1966 at Guymon. He died in 1994. Survivors include a daughter, Bonnie K. Royse of Guymon; two sons, Bill H. McCarney and Dewey L. McCarney, both of Guymon; three brothers, Jim Coldiron of Ville Platte, La., and Dewey Coldiron and Billy Coldiron, both of Guymon; eight grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. Canyon Margarett Elaine Stone Margarett Elaine Stone, 49, of Canyon, died Thursday, July 2, 1998. Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Monday in Llano Cemetery with the Rev. Allen H. Norris, pastor of Emmanuel Baptist Church of Amarillo, officiating. Arrangements are by Brooks Funeral Directors of Canyon. Mrs. Stone was born in Pampa and grew up in Spearman. She graduated from Spearman High School in 1967 and attended Lubbock Christian College. In 1991, she married Danny Lee Stone at Amarillo. Her first marriage was to Wayne Goodman in 1969 at Spearman. Survivors include her husband; a daughter, Deborah Goodman Teltow of Canyon; a son, William Patterson Goodman of Amarillo; her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Johnny Dale White of Denton; five sisters including Kathy Petterson of Denton; three brothers; and three grandsons. Robert B. Brotherton Robert B. Brotherton, 75, of Canyon, died Friday, July 3, 1998. Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday in First United Methodist Church in Canyon with the Rev. Richard Bales, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Dreamland Cemetery by Brooks Funeral Directors of Canyon. Mr. Brotherton was born in Lockney. He graduated from Lockney High School and attended Texas Tech University and West Texas State University. He was a Navy veteran of World War II serving in Newfoundland. Mr. Brotherton retired in 1986 after 38 years with Pioneer Gas. He was a Scoutmaster for Troop 66 in 1966. He was a member of First United Methodist Church of Canyon and the Toastmasters. He married Wynema Robbins in 1947 at Canyon. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Susan Lynn Brotherton, in 1949. Survivors include his wife; a son, Robert Brotherton Jr., of Fort Worth; a daughter, Lynda Rhea Bean of Roswell, N.M.; three sisters, Mauretta Meek of Graham, Martha Jo Boren of Lubbock and Inell Zevely of Amarillo; a brother, Henry Brotherton of Penrose, Colo.; and five grandchildren. Area Irene Vaughn BOOKER - Irene Vaughn, 88, a longtime Vernon resident, died Friday, July 3, 1998. Graveside services will be at noon Monday in Eastview Cemetery in Vernon with Sammy Vaughn, a grandson, officiating. Arrangements are by Sullivan Funeral Home of Vernon. Mrs. Vaughn was born in Ladonia and lived in Vernon most of her life. She was a former employee of Heard and Jones Drug Store. She moved to Booker in 1984 where she was a member of First Baptist Church. Survivors include a daughter, Dorothy Jean Puckett of Vernon; three sons, Clois Vaughn of Booker, Charles Vaughn and Chester Vaughn, both of Lubbock; three sisters, Lena Jobe, Bell Williams and Geneva Bridwell, all of Vernon; and several grandchildren. The family will be at the funeral home from 11 a.m. until time of service Monday. They request memorials be to Ochiltree General Hospital Hospice. Ruth Draper PLAINVIEW - Ruth Draper, 81, of Joplin, Mo., and a former Plainview resident, died Wednesday, July 1, 1998. Services will be at 10 a.m. today in Lemons Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Robert Allen, pastor of Trinity United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will be in Plainview Memorial Park. Mrs. Draper was born in Floyd County. She received her master's degree and took postgraduate courses in the United States and abroad. She taught at Hale Center Public School, Plainview Public School, Juneau Public School, Wayland Baptist College and Eastern New Mexico University. A longtime Methodist, she was active in many clubs and organizations. She married Laurence E. Draper in 1937. He died in 1970. Survivors include a daughter, Judy Havins of Joplin; a brother, George M. Tate of Weatherford; four grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. Freda M. Seitz PAMPA - Freda M. Seitz, 78, died Thursday, July 2, 1998. Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday in Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors Colonial Chapel with Billy T. Jones, minister of West Side Church of Christ, officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery. Mrs. Seitz was born in Nocona and moved to Pampa in 1946 from Dumas. She had been employed as a bookkeeper for Fatheree Drug in Dumas and also worked for them in Pampa. She was a member of First Baptist Church, the Top O'Texas Women's Republican Club and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Women's Auxiliary. She married Jones Seitz in 1948 at Pampa. He died in 1989. Survivors include a daughter, Donna Seitz of Burbank, Calif.; a sister, Jewel Wells of Friona; and two brothers, Floyd Johnson of Lubbock and Wayne Johnson of Colorado Springs, Colo. The family will receive friends at 1033 Christine in Pampa. They request memorials be to the American Heart Association. Mary E. Frogge FRITCH - Mary E. "Billie" Frogge, 84, died Thursday, July 2, 1998. Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday in First United Methodist Church of Fritch with the Rev. David Brasher, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Garden of Devotion of Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery by Minton / Chatwell Funeral Directors of Borger. Mrs. Frogge was born in Paducah. She moved to Fritch in 1980 from Phillips. She had been employed as chief operator of communications by Phillips Petroleum Co. Mrs. Frogge was a member of the Altrusa Club and the Jane Phillips sorority. She was a Methodist. She married Loy R. Frogge in 1952 at Phillips. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Thalia Gaston, in 1985. Survivors include her husband; a sister, Maude Ford of Garland; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Raymond Milner FRIONA - Raymond Milner, 79, died Friday, July 3, 1998. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday in Friona United Methodist Church with the Rev. Don Boren, pastor, and the Rev. Archie Echols of Abilene officiating. Burial will be in Friona Cemetery by EllisBlackwell Funeral Home. Mr. Milner was born in Swisher County. He graduated from Plainview High School and attended Texas Tech University. He was a Coast Guard veteran of World War II. Mr. Milner was a member of Friona United Methodist Church where he served as Sunday School superintendent and on various committees. He served on the West Texas Rural Telephone Board for many years and was a farmer. He married Frances Partlow in 1946 at Lubbock. Survivors include his wife; a son, Dale Milner of Friona; two daughters, Karene Cass and Janice Hamilton, both of Clovis, N.M.; a brother, Harvey Milner of Amarillo; and eight grandchildren. The family requests memorials be to the Friona United Methodist Church, permanent endowment fund, or to Hospice.
