Hughes St. Mr. Hood was born in Dallas. He graduated from Lincoln High School in Dallas and attended Amarillo College. He was a member of Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church and a former member of Golden Gate Baptist Church at Dallas. At Shiloh he served in various capacities. The church named him Father of the Year in 1996. Mr. Hood had been employed with the Texas Highway Department for five years. He was a volunteer for Kids, Inc., where he organized the youth community basketball league. He married Velinda A. Hopson 16 years ago in Amarillo. Survivors include his wife; three daughters, Felicia Sanders of Dallas, and Stacy Smith and Latoya Hood, both of Amarillo; a son, Paris C. Sanders of Dallas; and two sisters, Amanda Hood and Ann Taulton, both of Dallas. Mr. McCartney was born in Amarillo and had been a lifelong Amarillo resident. He served in the Army during World War II and received the Bronze Star. He retired from Santa Fe Railway, where he worked as a mail handler for many years. After retiring from the railway, he worked for ABC Theatres before retiring in 1971. Mr. McCartney was a member of the American Legion. He attended Central Church of Christ. Survivors include two brothers, Don McCartney of Amarillo and Sheridan McCartney of Aurora, Colo.; and six nieces. Loretta June Robinson Loretta June Robinson, 65, of 100 N. She moved to Amarillo in 1938. She was a homemaker and a member of First Baptist Church. She married H.L. Standridge in 1925. He died in 1977. Survivors include a daughter, Doris S. The family will be at 10700 Trail View St. William Roy Morris William Roy Morris, 75, of Amarillo, died Sunday, March 1, 1998, in Mesa, Ariz. Mr. Morris was born in Major County, Okla. He graduated from Lacy School in 1940 as valedictorian of his class. He served in World War II as a co-pilot on a B-24 bomber. He flew 30 missions with the 448th Bomb Group, 8th Air Force, out of England. He earned the Distinguished Flying Cross and the Air Medal with three oak leaf clusters. Mr. Morris married Merle Coble in 1945 at Amarillo. When he returned from the service, he farmed in the Arnes and Lacy communities for many years. He moved to Arkansas and then returned to the Amarillo area in 1954. He farmed for several years before going to work at the post office. He worked as a mail carrier for more than 20 years before retiring in 1987. Mr. Morris and his wife were active in several square dancing functions. Since retiring, they had spent the winter months in Mesa. Survivors include his wife; a son, Otis Roy Morris of Lexington, Tenn.; two daughters, Murial Rowell of Dallas and Joan Morris of Houston; two brothers; six sisters; and a granddaughter. He married Marjorie Kincaid in 1951 at New York. He was a dispatcher for Diamond Shamrock before retiring after 32 years of service. He was a security guard for Allstate at Amarillo National Bank and for Sterling Security at Affiliated Foods. He also towed cars for the Amarillo Auto Auction. Mr. Jones was a member of the Operating Engineers Union. He was involved with the first roundup of men with Kids, Inc. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday in Glendale, Ariz. Burial will be in National Cemetery at Phoenix by Wheeler Mortuary of Portales Inc. Mr. Newsom was born in Lahoma, Okla., and was raised in the Tulsa, Okla., area. He began working at a neon sign company at the age of 13 and worked there for 20 years. During World War II, he served as a machine gunner in Europe. Following the war, he worked as an electrician in construction at Grand Lake, Okla., and Disney, Okla. In 1966, he moved to Colorado and continued working on construction jobs. He had been a member of Local No. 68 of the Electricians Union of Denver. He retired in 1989 and moved to the Phoenix area. In 1994, he moved to Portales. He married Geneva Jessie Montgomary in 1931 at Tulsa. In 1941, he married Ethel Corena Bibin at Disney. He was preceded in death by his wife Ethel in 1993 and also by a daughter, Donna Sue Bates. Survivors include a son, Paul Newsom of Portales; five daughters, Paula Gene McGirt of Pryor, Okla., Joan Graves of Adair, Okla., Barbara Bruffett of Portales, Corena Kay Kirby of Phoenix and Shawn Renne Theorine of Glendale, Ariz.; a sister, Rosa Lee Hughley of Everett, Wash.; 18 grandchildren; 24 greatgrandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. Antonia Quintana TUCUMCARI, N.M. - Antonia Quintana, 73, died Monday, March 2, 1998. Rosary was recited at 7 p.m. Tuesday in St. Anne's Catholic Church. Mr. Quintana was born in Tucumcari and had been a lifetime Tucumcari resident. He was a veteran of World War II, serving with the Army's 77th Armored Medical Battalion, Company C, during the invasion of Normandy. He received the Purple Heart. He was a life member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 2528 in Tucumcari. Mr. Quintana retired from the Quay County courthouse. He was a member of St. Anne's Catholic Church. Steven C. Burbee officiating. Burial will be in Ridge Park Cemetery by Campbell-Lewis Funeral Home. Mr. Weinreich was born in Saline County, where he had lived most of his life. He retired from Illinois Central & Gulf in 1979 after 26 years of service. He also was a retired farmer. He was a member of First United Methodist Church, the United Transportation Union and the Moose Lodge. Mr. Weinreich married Mae Elene Hinton in 1940. She died in 1965. He married Wanda Juanita Swearingan in 1972. He worked for Diamond Shamrock for 26 years before retiring in 1973. He moved to Dumas in 1974. He married Tillie Pool in 1932 at Tucumcari, N.M. She died in 1996. He also was preceded in death by a daughter, Dixie Irene, in 1935. He married Laverne Collins in 1944 at Panhandle. Mr. Miller was preceded in death by a son, Joe Don Miller, in 1980. He died in 1940. She also was preceded in death by a son, Tarlton Perkins, in 1961. Mrs. Bullock was born in the Aberdeen community of Collingsworth County. She grew up in the Shamrock area and attended school in the Elm Valley community. She married Loyd Bullock in 1931 at Sayre, Okla. In 1952, she moved to Nara Visa, N.M. After the death of her husband in 1969, she returned to Shamrock. Mrs. Bullock was a member of Eleventh Street Baptist Church. Survivors include a son, Robert Bullock of Stratford; a daughter, Betty Oldham of Shamrock; a sister, Pearl French of Stockton, Calif.; six grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. Clinton Young, minister of First Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Quanah Memorial Park. Mrs. Glosson was born in Nottingham, England. She married Paul Glosson in 1945 at Nottingham. She had lived in Quanah since 1985, moving from Borger, where she was a bank teller for Panhandle Bank. Mrs. Glosson was a member of Keeler Baptist Church in Borger and the Trans Atlantic Brides and Parents Association. She served as postal secretary for the state of Texas. Survivors include her husband; a son, David Glosson of Plano; a daughter, Barbara Adkins of Fritch; three brothers, Bill Wright and Herbert Wright, both of Nottingham, and Ronnie Wright of Charleston, S.C.; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. A prayer service will be at 6 p.m. today in Rix Funeral Directors Chapel. Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday in Crosbyton Cemetery in Crosbyton. Survivors include his parents; a sister, Andrea Machado of Hereford; a brother, Ronnie Martinez of Hereford; and grandparents, Mario and Cruz Castillo of Tahoka, and Maria Flores and Henry Casis, both of Hereford.
