Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery at Pampa by Warford-Walker Mortuary Inc., 509 N. Hughes St. Chaz was born in Pampa. He was a member of St. Mark C.M.E. Church at Pampa. He attended Lamar Elementary School in Pampa before moving several years ago to Amarillo, where he attended Sam Houston Middle School. Survivors include his mother, Loretta Grimes of Amarillo; his father, Kevin Grimes of Pampa; two sisters, Kisha Grimes of Amarillo and Kamisha Grimes of Macon, Ga.; grandparents, Selma Hutchens of Amarillo, Frances Dorsey and Bobby Joe Dorsey, both of Pampa, and Joe L. Lonnie Dewayne Hooley, 32, of Amarillo, died Monday, March 30, 1998. His wife, Tina Marie Hooley, 28, died Tuesday, March 31, 1998. Joint memorial services will be at 3:30 p.m. today in Messenger Worship Center with the Rev. Don Messer, district superintendent of the North Texas District of the Pentecostal Church of God, officiating. Burial was Friday in Roselawn Cemetery in Fort Smith, Ark. Local arrangements are by Rector Funeral Home, 2800 S. Osage St. The Rev. and Mrs. Hooley were married in 1988 at Fort Smith. They moved to Amarillo in 1991. The Rev. Hooley was born in Fort Smith and graduated from Northside High School in Fort Smith in 1984. He attended Arkansas State University in Jonesboro and West-Ark Community College in Fort Smith. He had been pastor of Messenger Worship Center for seven years. Mrs. Hooley was born in Walnut Ridge, Ark., and graduated from Hoxie High School in Hoxie, Ark., in 1988. She was a homemaker and a member of Messenger Worship Center. She was active in church activities and taught a children's Sunday school class. The Rev. Hooley's survivors include a daughter, Melissa Marie Hooley of the home; his mother, Bonnie Hooley of Joplin, Mo.; and a sister, Melody Jean Bebee of Joplin. Johnny David Harris Johnny David Harris, 74, of Amarillo, died Thursday, April 2, 1998. Memorial services were at 2 p.m. Saturday in South Lawn Baptist Church with the Rev. He served with the Navy during World War II. He was a cook at Hummer's Sports Cafe for 10 years. He also worked part time for Mr. Gatti's Pizza and for the Amarillo schools as a crossing guard. He was a member of South Lawn Baptist Church. Mr. Harris married Dorothy Mae Smith in 1974 at Amarillo. Holmes William H. "Bill" Holmes, 75, of Amarillo, died Thursday, April 2, 1998. Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday in Bolton Street Baptist Church with the Rev. Leon Green, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2820 Virginia Circle. Mr. Holmes was born in Floydada and had lived in Amarillo for 56 years. He owned Village Barber and the barber shop at Amarillo National Bank. He later owned Ace-Hi Barber before retiring recently. He was a member of Bolton Street Baptist Church. Mr. Holmes was an Army Air Corps veteran of World War II. He entered the Air Corps in 1943 and served eight months flying B-17s on the European Front. He married Maureen Hart in 1941 at Floydada. Survivors include his wife; three sons, Dwain Holmes of Port Lavaca, Lyn Holmes of George West and Dell Holmes of The Colony; two daughters, Anita Wilson of Carrollton and DeAnn Smith of Friendswood; a brother, C.A. She married Gilbert Alamillo in 1961 at Santa Fe Springs, Calif. Survivors include her husband; two sons, Ted Alamillo of Santa Fe, N.M., and Tim Alamillo of Santa Barbara, Calif.; three daughters, Irene Eisenhaur of Claude, and Victoria Vigil and Patricia Johnson, both of Las Vegas; her father, John Marquez Sr. of Henderson; two brothers, John Marquez Jr. of Henderson and Leroy Marquez of Sacramento, Calif.; a sister, Ida Diaz of Henderson; 13 grandchildren; and a great-grandchild. Merle McMurtry PLAINVIEW - Merle McMurtry, 83, died Thursday, April 2, 1998. Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday in College Heights Baptist Church with the Rev. Don Robertson, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Plainview Cemetery by Lemons Funeral Home. Mr. McMurtry was born in Silverton. He moved with his parents near Vigo Park in 1917. He joined Vigo Park Baptist Church at the age of 11 and helped build the present church building. He graduated from Tulia High School in 1933 and from Texas Tech University in 1938. At Texas Tech, he was a fouryear high point man in the School of Agriculture. He received a bachelor of science degree in animal husbandry and was a member of Alpha Chi Scholastic Society. Mr. McMurtry served with the Army Medical Corps. He farmed and ranched in the Vigo Park area for many years. He was the Briscoe County Conservation Farmer of the Year in 1963. He was a founding director of First State Bank in Tulia. He was active in Bible distribution through the American Bible Society. He also gave many programs and lectures on various Indian tribes throughout the Panhandle and South Plains. Mr. McMurtry married Rosa Lie Brown in 1974 and moved to Plainview. Survivors include his wife; a sister, Betty Devin of Tulia; and a brother, Hoyse McMurtry of Lubbock. Marie Foulkes ORLANDO, Fla. - Marie Foulkes, 74, a former Clovis resident, died Friday, March 27, 1998. Memorial services will be at noon Monday in Steed-Todd Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Herbert Bergstrom officiating. Burial will be in Lawn Haven Cemetery. Mrs. Foulkes was born in Oklahoma and raised in Ranchvale. She moved to Clovis after her 1941 marriage to Harvey H. Hall. He died in 1951. She later married W.C. Foulkes and moved to Long Island, N.Y., in 1957. They divorced in 1965. She retired to the Orlando area in 1985 after the 1983 death of her companion, Gene Horton. Survivors include nine children, Ken Hall of Montgomery, Ala., Russell "Butch" Hall of Brookfied, Conn., Dennis Hall of Vale, Ore., Randy Hall of Salinas, Calif., Velma "Susie" Roth of Flanders, N.Y., Bill Foulkes and Cheryl Foulkes, both of Oviedo, Ralph Foulkes of Riverhead, N.Y., and Jon Foulkes of Calverton, N.Y.; her mother, Stella Barrow of Clovis; two sisters, Nina Barrow of Clovis and Janie Kilpatrick of Austin, Texas; three brothers, Burnis and Ben, both of Clovis, and Leo of Tuscon, Ariz.; a special friend, Patty Hall of Brookfield; 16 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. John C. Booth Sr. ODESSA - John C. Booth Sr., 85, a former resident of Portales, died Saturday, April 4, 1998. Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday in Third and Kilgore Church of Christ in Portales with Joe Brumfield, John Booth Jr., and Chris Swinford officiating. Burial will be in Portales Cemetery by Wheeler Mortuary of Portales, Inc. Mr. Booth was born and raised in Amarillo where he graduated from high school. He received his pharmacy degree in Denver. He entered the Army in 1942 and served as pharmacist in Iceland and outside of London. After the war, he moved to Portales where he owned Booth Pharmacy from 1949 until 1978. For many years, he was the only degreed pharmacist in Portales. Mr. Booth sponsored the Booth-Powell softball team that qualified for the national finals one year. He also helped sponsor the peewee and junior league baseball teams. He was a member of the Portales County Club, the Conestoga Good Sams and the Third and Kilgore Church of Christ where he was a deacon. He married Bernice "Bea" Chandler in 1940 at Clovis. She preceded him in death on March 28. Survivors include a son, John Booth Jr. of Moriarty; a daughter, Jeanne Ross of Odessa; and six grandchildren. Oklahoma Nancy Maurine Burcham LONE WOLF, Okla. - Nancy Maurine Whitener Burcham, 89, died Friday, April 3, 1998. Services will be at 1:30 p.m. today in United Methodist Church. Burial will be in Lone Wolf Cemetery by People Cooperative Funeral Home. Mrs. Burcham was born in Hester, Greer County. She graduated from White Flat High School in 1928. She was a member of United Methodist Church, the American Legion Auxiliary and the United Methodist Women. She married William Frederick Burcham in 1929 at Mangum, Okla. He died in 1972. Survivors include two sons, William Robert Burcham of Claude, Texas, and James Frederick Burcham of Houston; a daughter, Sarah Schreiner of Lone Wolf; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. Charles Delbert Ray HARDESTY, Okla. - Charles Delbert Ray, 68, died Thursday, April 2, 1998. Services will be at 2 p.m. todayin United Methodist Church with the Rev. Don Calvert officiating. Burial will be in Hartville Cemetery by Henson-Novak Funeral Directors of Guymon. Mr. Ray was born in Guymon. He was raised in Hardesty and graduated from Hardesty High School with the class of 1949. He then attended the University of Oklahoma and received an associate's degree in civil engineering. He was a veteran of the Korean War, serving with the Navy from 1951 to 1954 stationed on the USS George Clymor. Mr. Ray had been employed as a rural letter carrier for many years. He was a member of Guymon Lodge AF&AM No. 335. He was a 32nd Degree Mason and a member of the Scottish Rite and the India Shrine Temple. Survivors include his brother, Bernard Ray of Spearman, Texas. Emmitt Harley Hughey GUYMON, Okla. - Emmitt Harley Hughey, 79, died Thursday, April 2, 1998. Services will be at 2:30 p.m. today in the Bunch-Roberts Funeral Home with the Rev. John Godby of Grace Southern Baptist Church officiating. Burial will be in Elmhurst Cemetery. Mr. Hughey was born in Hardesty and attended school there. He worked with the Civilian Conservation Corps with the WPA where he helped build the Fort Supply dam, the gas plant at Optima and the road between Woodward and Guymon. He was a Navy veteran of World War II. In 1949, Mr. Hughey moved to Guymon from Hooker. He was a printer with the Guymon Daily Herald and retired from the paper in 1985. He was a member of No Man's Land Senior Citizens Center. He married Helen Olga Shields in 1940 at Amarillo. She died in 1992. Survivors include his sons, J. Hughey of Bartlesville and Lloyd Burton of Weatherford; a brother, Stanley McKinley of Hooker; five grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. Martin Snell CLOVIS, N.M. - Bertha A. Martin Snell, 85, died Friday, April 3, 1998. Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday in Steed-Todd Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Herbert Bergstrom officiating. Burial will be in Mission Garden of Memories. Mrs. Snell was a lifetime resident of the Clovis community. She and her husband farmed, ranched and owned Snell's Meat Packing Plant. She married M.M. "Bud" Snell in 1934. He preceded her in death as did three grandsons. Survivors include a son, Richard Snell of Clovis; two daughters, Jane Ann Hayman of Ft. Collins, Colo., and Donna Sue Fulcher of Portales; a sister, Margaret Martin White of Texico; seven grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
