Brown Anna M. Brown, 68, a former Amarillo resident, died Thursday, July 2, 1998. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2820 Virginia Circle. Mrs. Brown was born in Duke, Okla., and had lived in Amarillo from 1965 until 1975. She moved to Abilene and later to the Dallas-Fort Worth area. She had been employed as a bookkeeper/dispatcher for a trucking company in Amarillo. Mrs. Brown retired in 1993 from the Dallas-Fort Worth Airport. She was a member of Beltline Church of Christ. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Patti Ann Whitten, and a son, Richard Dale Brown. Survivors include a son, Cliff Brown of Richardson; a brother, Ray Hulsey of Amarillo; and two grandchildren. William C. Samuels William C. "Sam"Samuels, 70, of Amarillo, died Friday, July 3, 1998. Services will be at 4 p.m. Monday in Saint Peter's Episcopal Church with the Rev. Frank Swindle, rector, officiating. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2820 Virginia Circle. Mr. Samuels was born in Louisville, Ky. He graduated from Fort Knox High School and received his bachelor of science degree from Memphis State University in 1952. He was a World War II veteran of the Army. Mr. Samuels moved to Amarillo in 1952 where he was employed by the U.S. Postal Service and taught at Amarillo Air Force Base. He served as interim secretary for the YMCA and sold insurance. In 1987, he retired from Sears where he had been in sales since 1965. Mr. Samuels had been a member of St. Peter's Episcopal Church since 1962. From 1962 until 1965, he served as commissioner of baseball for the YMCA. He married Pat Herring in 1950 at Memphis, Tenn. Survivors include his wife; three daughters, Patti Edmonson of Plano, and Nancy McKinley and Connie Reid, both of Amarillo; a brother, Ronnie Samuels of Parker; and six grandchildren. Arrangements are by Colonial Funeral Home, 1010 W. Ninth. Mr. Rayford was born in Wellington. He moved to Amarillo in 1979 from Alamogordo, N.M. He retired from the Air Force after 22 years of service where he served three tours of duty in Vietnam. In 1994, he retired after 17 years with Reynolds Metal Co. He was an active Mason. He married Denise Mallory in 1986 at Amarillo. Survivors include his wife; five sons, Charles Dawson of Florence, Ariz., Tony Liggins of Midland, Sean Mallory of Corpus Christi, Seldon Mallory of San Antonio and Christopher Rayford of Amarillo; a daughter, Shannon Rayford of Amarillo; two brothers, Aaron Rayford of Oklahoma City and James Smith of Borger; and a sister, Dr. Francine Childs of Athens, Ohio. The family will be at 3012 N. Hill. Bobby Joe Allen Bobby Joe Allen, 62, of Amarillo, died Wednesday, July 1, 1998. Burial will be in Llano Cemetery. Mr. Allen was born in Dalhart and was a longtime Amarillo resident. He graduated from Amarillo High School and attended Oklahoma State University. He was in the Texas National Guard. Mr. Allen taught seventh grade science and was wrestling coach at Cal Farley's Boys Ranch from 1969 until 1978. He retired as a truck driver from Jack B. Kelley. He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 1475 and San Jacinto Church of Christ. He married Gay Allen in 1957 at Amarillo. He was preceded in death by a son, Phillip Boyd Allen, in 1962. Mr. Close was born in Odell, Texas. He was an Air Force veteran of Korean and Vietnam. He retired from the Air Force as chief master sergeant. Survivors include his wife, Sanae Close; his sister, Claudene Chessir of Amarillo; and special friends, James and Tamiko Schwalje of Las Vegas. Mary Louise Ledford HUGOTON, Kan. - Mary Louise Ledford, 66, died Thursday, July 2, 1998 in Amarillo. Services will be at 3 p.m. today in Assembly of God Church in Hugoton with the Rev. Robert Bailey officiating. Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday in Reeve's Cemetery in Guion, Ark. Arrangements are by Paul's Funeral Home in Hugoton. Mrs. Ledford was born in Cromwell, Okla. She moved to Hugoton from Amarillo in 1969. She was a homemaker and member of Assembly of God Church in Hugoton. She moved to Danielson from Liberal, Kan., in 1997. She was employed as a nurse's aide. She married Edgar E. Berube in 1977 at Phoenix. She was preceded in death by a son, Rodney Gene Shaw, in 1967. Boner Philip Howard MIDLAND - Boner Philip Howard, 86, a former Amarillo resident, died Friday, July 3, 1998. Services will be at 1 p.m. Monday in Memory Gardens Cemetery in Amarillo. Arrangements are by Ellis Funeral Home of Midland. Mr. Howard was born in Melrose, N.M. After graduating from high school, he served in the Army Air Corps during World War II. He retired as manager of Pleasant Valley Lumber and Supply in Amarillo. He was a member of Pleasant Valley Church of Christ. Mr. Howard married Isabel Knox Howard. She died in 1992. Survivors include two daughters, Judy Ruth Howard and Betty Howard King, both of Midland; and four grandchildren. Area Irene Vaughn BOOKER - Irene Vaughn, 88, a longtime Vernon resident, died Friday, July 3, 1998. Mrs. Vaughn was born in Ladonia and lived in Vernon most of her life. She was a former employee of Heard and Jones Drug Store. She moved to Booker in 1984 where she was a member of First Baptist Church. Survivors include a daughter, Dorothy Jean Puckett of Vernon; three sons, Clois Vaughn of Booker, Charles Vaughn and Chester Vaughn, both of Lubbock; three sisters, Lena Jobe, Bell Williams and Geneva Bridwell, all of Vernon; and several grandchildren. Ruth Draper PLAINVIEW - Ruth Draper, 81, of Joplin, Mo., and a former Plainview resident, died Wednesday, July 1, 1998. Services were at 10 a.m. Saturday in Lemons Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Robert Allen, pastor of Trinity United Methodist Church officiating. Burial was in Plainview Memorial Park. Mrs. Draper was born in Floyd County. She received her master's degree and took postgraduate courses in the United States and abroad. She taught at Hale Center Public School, Plainview Public School, Juneau Public School, Wayland Baptist College and Eastern New Mexico University. A longtime Methodist, she was active in many clubs and organizations. She married Laurence E. Draper in 1937. He died in 1970. She had been employed as a bookkeeper for Fatheree Drug in Dumas and also worked for them in Pampa. She was a member of First Baptist Church, the Top O' Texas Women's Republican Club and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Women's Auxiliary. She married Jones Seitz in 1948 at Pampa. He died in 1989. Survivors include a daughter, Donna Seitz of Burbank, Calif.; a sister, Jewel Wells of Friona; and two brothers, Floyd Johnson of Lubbock and Wayne Johnson of Colorado Springs, Colo. She married Loy R. Frogge in 1952 at Phillips. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Thalia Gaston, in 1985. Survivors include her husband; a sister, Maude Ford of Garland; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Raymond Milner FRIONA - Raymond Milner, 79, died Friday, July 3, 1998. He was a Coast Guard veteran of World War II. Mr. Milner was a member of Friona United Methodist Church where he served as Sunday School superintendent and on various committees. He served on the West Texas Rural Telephone Board for many years and was a farmer. He married Frances Partlow in 1946 at Lubbock. Survivors include his wife; a son, Dale Milner of Friona; two daughters, Karene Cass and Janice Hamilton, both of Clovis, N.M.; a brother, Harvey Milner of Amarillo; and eight grandchildren. She was a homemaker and member of Floyd United Methodist Church. She married Gid Montague in 1929 at Floydada. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Evelyn Faye Montague, in 1943. Mrs. Eversole was born and raised in Cranston, R.I., and graduated from Cranston High School in 1952. She graduated from Rhode Island School of Nursing in 1956. She was a past president of the Plainview Women's Club, the Atheneum Club and PEO Chapter BL. Mrs. Eversole was a volunteer for the Faith in Sharing House and Thunderbird Elementary. She taught Sunday School in the youth, university and adult departments at First Baptist Church where she also was a leader for the Girls in Action. She married Donald L. Eversole in 1958 at Lake Charles, La. Survivors include her husband; a son, Jamie Eversole of Fort Worth; four daughters, Jean Whitfield of Longview, Janet Brown of Edmond, Okla., and Judith Eversole and Julie Eversole, both of Plainview; two brothers, Arthur Holman of Hartford, Conn., and Pierce Holman of Rhode Island; one sister, Evelyn Gates of Warwick, R.I.; and nine grandchildren. Burial will be at Lockney Cemetery by Moore-Rose-White Funeral Home. Mrs. Ford was born in Stoney and graduated from Electra High School and from business school in Wichita Falls. She moved from Plainview to Lockney in 1956 and to Crosbyton in 1965. She returned to Lockney in 1990. Mrs. Ford was employed as a school secretary in Electra, Plainview, Lockney and Crosbyton. In Lockney, she worked for the Educational Service Center for 14 years and as the school tax assessor/collector. She worked in education for a total of 52 years. Mrs. Ford was a member of the Lockney Senior Citizens Association, the Educational Secretaries Association, The Dairy Queen Club of Lockney and the Main Street Church of Christ. She married Henry Clay Ford Jr., in 1950 at Lockney. Survivors include her husband; a brother, Murray Durham of Seattle; and a sister, Johnnie Lois Nichols of Graham. He worked as a cowboy and competed in rodeos for many years. Mrs. Galan was born in Wagon Mound, N.M., and was raised in the Santa Fe/Taos area. She moved to Pedra Lumbre and later to Roy, N.M. In 1963, she moved to Dalhart and was employed by Coon Memorial Hospital. She was a member of St. Anthony's Catholic Church. She married Frank Galan who preceded her in death. Survivors include three sons, Eloy Arguello and Art Arguello, both of Dalhart, and Louis Sandoval of Guymon, Okla.; six daughters, Margarita Richmond of Dalhart, Frances Madrid, Sussana Romero and Micaela Garcia, all of Guymon, Geraldine Baca of Tucumcari, N.M., and Martha Johnson of Cedar Park; two sisters, Narcisa Ortiz and Mary Ortiz, both of Dalhart; two brothers, Henry Abeyta of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Joe D. He graduated from Lockney High School and attended Texas Tech University and West Texas State University. He was a Navy veteran of World War II serving in Newfoundland. Mr. Brotherton retired in 1986 after 38 years with Pioneer Gas. He was a Scoutmaster for Troop 66 in 1966. He was a member of First United Methodist Church of Canyon and the Toastmasters. He married Wynema Robbins in 1947 at Canyon. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Susan Lynn Brotherton, in 1949. Mrs. Brownlow was born in Long Island, N.Y., and was a Clovis resident for the past 33 years. In 1989, she retired from Clovis schools where she taught science at Marshall Jr. High School. She was past secretary of BPO Does Elks Lodge No. 1244, a member of Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 3245 and Avmets Post 14 and a former member of Altrusa Club. She married William Brownlow in 1985 at Fort Sumner. She was preceded in death by her first husband, John Sparks, in 1980. Survivors include her husband; two sons, Allen Sparks of Fairbanks, Alaska and Randy Sparks of Dayton, Ohio; and two grandchildren. Aillene J. Seery CLOVIS, N.M. - Aillene J. She did hundreds of hours of volunteer service as a Red Cross Grey Lady. She married Thomas W. Seery in 1927 at Detroit. He preceded her in death in 1989. Survivors include a cousin, Mrs. Harold Bogart of Traverse, Mich.; numerous nieces and nephews; a brother-in-law; and three sisters-in-law. Akers, 89, died Wednesday, July 1, 1998. Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday in Steed-Todd Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Thomas P. Jones, officiating. Burial will be in Lawn Haven Memorial Cemetery. Mr. Akers was born in Perry, Okla., and farmed in Pleasant Hill for many years. In 1942, he was employed as an airplane mechanic for the Civil Service. He later was a carpenter in California then returned to Clovis in 1951 where he was a carpenter in the Civil Service. He worked and lived in Missouri and El Paso. After his retirement in 1974, Mr. Akers returned to Clovis. He was a member of Central Christian Church, Good Sams and Senior Citizens where he served on the board of directors. He also was a member of Square Dance Club and National Association of Retired Civil Service Association. He married Edith Sagely in 1931 at Clovis. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Ida Mae Martin. Survivors include his wife; two grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Adelina Encinias PORTALES, N.M. - Adelina Encinias, 83, died Friday, July 3, 1998. Rosary will be said at 7 p.m. today in St. Helen Catholic Church. Mrs. Encinias was born in Palma and lived in Aurora until her move to Vaughn in 1946. She moved to Portales in 1947 where she worked for the Community Services and the Adult Day Care in Portales taking care of the elderly. She was a member of St. Helen Catholic Church. She married Noberto Encinias in 1935 at Villanueva. She was preceded in death by a son, Martin Encinias, in 1960. Survivors include three sons, Grable Encinias and Ruben Encinias, both of Clovis, and Robert Encinias of Portales; two daughters, Virginia Lucero of Portales and Manuela Torres of Clovis; a sister, Mela Aragon of Vaughn; 11 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. James Edward Foster CLOVIS, N.M. - James Edward Foster, 36, died Wednesday, July 1, 1998. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Mission Garden of Memories with R.D. Wesson, elder, officiating. Arrangements are by Muffley Funeral Home of Clovis. Mr. Foster was born in Big Spring, Texas, and moved to Clovis in 1969. He was employed as a bricklayer by W&W Masons. He attended the Church of God in Christ. Survivors include his wife, Mary Foster; two sons, Kelly Acy of Oklahoma City and Willie Acy of Clovis; three daughters, Joyce Acy, Kathy Acy and Violet Acy, all of Clovis; five brothers, George Foster, Robert Foster, Scott Foster and Charles Foster, all of Clovis, and Roy Foster of Angleton, Texas; two sisters, Ira Washington and Joyce Foster, both of Clovis; and 10 grandchildren.
