Private services will be at a later date. Cremation is by Memory Gardens Crematory. Arrangements are by Blackburn-Shaw Funeral Directors, Memorial Chapel, Fifth Avenue and Pierce St. Mr. Angenend was born in Houston and grew up in Denton. For the past 18 years, he had lived in Dumas where he was previously employed by Agri-Weigh Scale Co., for 18 years. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Dumas. Survivors include two daughters, Cynthia Darcel Long of Dallas and Halle Lynne Angenend of Borger; a son, Sgt. Kenneth Bryce Angenend of Yokosuka, Japan; two sisters, Lyn Ann Sanders of Stinnett and Mary Laura Sitton of Amarillo; a half-sister, Patricia Joann Love of Midland; a half-brother, Michael Keith Fleming of Midland; and his stepfather, James Fleming of Midland. Dale Loren Johnston Dale Loren Johnston, 76, of Lubbock and formerly of Amarillo, died Thursday, Sept. 3, 1998. Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday in Schooler Funeral Home, Brentwood Chapel, 4100 S. Georgia St. Mr. Johnston was born and raised in Texola, Okla. He was a Navy Sea Bee in World War II, then lived in California. He moved to Amarillo in 1956 where he lived until moving to Lubbock in 1996. He was a barber and a farmer. He married Cordelia Bessire in 1940 at Sayre, Okla. Survivors include his wife; four sons, Dale Johnston and Gregory Johnston, both of Amarillo, and Steve Johnston and Mark Johnston, both of Lubbock; a daughter, Dolores J. Arndt of Lubbock; a brother, Clint Johnston of Oklahoma City; a sister, Imogene Rhoades of Elk City, Okla.; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Merrill Nelson "Bob"Baland Merrill Nelson "Bob" Baland, 91, of Amarillo, died Thursday, Sept. 3, 1998. Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday in Llano Cemetery with the Rev. Mr. Baland was born in Iola, Kan., and had been an Amarillo resident since 1948. He served in the Navy during World War II and retired as a clerk from the the U.S. Postal Service. He was a member of the Palo Duro Masonic Lodge No. 1239 where he recently received his 70-year pin, Scottish Rite in Memphis, Tenn., Khiva Temple of the Shrine and First Baptist Church. He married Mary Paine in 1931 at Amarillo. Survivors include his wife; a son, Phillip Ray Baland of Amarillo; two daughters, Bobbie Baland Neidig of Fort Myers, Fla., and Marilyn Baland Gibson of Baltimore, Md.; a sister, Juanita Holland of Center, Colo.; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Janie Bitela Cuellar Janie Bitela Cuellar, 74, of Amarillo, died Thursday, Sept. 3, 1998. Rosary will be said at 7 p.m. Sunday in N.S. Griggs & Sons Funeral Directors Pioneer Chapel, 2615 Paramount Blvd. Funeral mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday in Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church with the Rev. Hector J. Madrigal officiating. Burial will be in Llano Cemetery. Mrs. Cuellar was born in Gonzales and had been an Amarillo resident for more than 55 years. With her husband, she owned and operated Cuellar Tortilla Co., in Amarillo for more than 40 years. She was a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church where she was a member of the building committee when the church was built. She married Mariano Cortez Cuellar in 1946 at Amarillo. He preceded her in death in 1989. Survivors include a son, David Cuellar of Amarillo; six daughters, Helen Wall and Linda Cuellar, both of Amarillo, Edna Cuellar of Westbranch, Iowa, Dian Ruud of Abilene, Cynthia Cuellar of Fairfax, Va., and Maria Christina Cuellar of Cummaquid, Mass.; 17 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. New Mexico Della Dacus PORTALES, N.M. - Della Dacus, 97, died Wednesday, Sept. 2, 1998, at San Antonio. Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday in Wheeler Mortuary Chapel with Bryan Loughmiller officiating. Burial will be in Portales Cemetery. Miss Dacus was born in Greer County, Okla., near Granite. She moved to the Oklahoma Territory with her pioneer parents. She left Oklahoma in 1907. In 1913 she moved with her family to Hansford County, where they farmed. She graduated from high school in 1923 at Spearman, Texas, where her family owned and operated the Spearman Hotel. She attended West Texas State Teachers College at Canyon from 1923 to 1925, before moving to Arch, N.M. She began her career as a primary teacher in 1927 at Rutherron, near Chama and from 1928-29 taught at Hollene. From 1929 to 1936, she taught at Richland. In 1936, she received her bachelor of arts degree from New Mexico Teachers College at Las Vegas. From 1936 until 1949 she taught in the Arch school while living on the Dacus family farm. From 1949 to 1966, she taught first grade in Portales schools. Miss Dacus received her master's degree from Eastern New Mexico University in 1954 and was named Teacher of the Year while working in the Portales school system, retiring in 1966. After her retirement, she taught for two years in Three Way, Texas, but maintained her home in Portales. She had been a member of the Church of Christ since 1925 and was currently a member of University Drive Church of Christ at Portales. Survivors include nieces and nephews, Wynne Lorene Payne, Mary Lee Crew, Lee Marie Watson, Joe McCrory, Dan Dacus and Ted Dacus. Ruby Evelyn Ellis PORTALES, N.M. - Ruby Evelyn Ellis, 77, died Thursday, Sept. 3, 1998, at Roswell. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday in Wheeler Mortuary Chapel with the Rev. J.R. "Dick" Ross officiating. Burial will be in Elida Cemetery. Mrs. Ellis was born in Running Water, Texas, and was raised near Morton, Texas, where her family were pioneers. She attended school in Pitchfork, N.M. She married Jimmie Chunn in 1939. They made their home in West Texas for a number of years. In the late 1960s, she married Johnny Ellis. They lived in Hobbs, where she worked for New Mex Construction Co. in oil field construction, retiring in 1991, when she moved to Elida. She was involved in raising livestock and attended the Senior Citizens Association. Survivors include a son, Troy Chunn of Lovington, N.M.; a daughter, Linda Elms of Florence, Texas; three brothers, Joe Standefer of Floyd and James "Bud" Standefer and Jay "Bullet" Standefer, both of Roswell; four sisters, Anna Faye Lee, Betty Lou Moore and Billie Jo Radcliff, all of Elida, and Jimmie Starr of Las Vegas, Nev.; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Harvey Fambrough PORTALES, N.M. - Harvey Fambrough, 91, died Thursday, Sept. 3, 1998, at Clovis. Services will be at 2 p.m. today in Wheeler Mortuary of Portales Inc. with Scott P. Reeves officiating. Burial will be in Portales Cemetery. Mr. Fambrough was born in Ancho and raised on a ranch at the foot of Jack's Peak. He lived there until marrying Katheryn Preston in 1933 at Roswell. They continued to live in Lincoln County until 1935, when they moved to West Texas and he worked in the oil fields for six years. Mr. Fambrough drilled wells in the Tularosa Basin, later owning a business. After making their home in Otero County for 30 years, he and his wife moved to a small farm in Chaves County, where they have lived for the past 19 years. Survivors include his wife; two sons, Preston Lee Fambrough of Hobbs and Harvey Ray Fambrough of Artesia; two daughters, Lois Ann Herring of Artesia and Janel D. Hill of Portales; a brother, Alex Fambrough of Lovington, N.M.; eight grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. Jerry Dennis Walker FORT SUMNER, N.M. - Jerry Dennis Walker, 59, died Wednesday, Sept. 2, 1998. Graveside services will be at 6 p.m. (MST) today in Fort Sumner Cemetery. Arrangements are by Chavez Funeral Home of Fort Sumner. Mr. Walker was born in Clovis and was raised in Fort Sumner where he attended schools. As a young man, he lived in Clovis and Roswell where he worked as a bricklayer with his father. From 1956 until 1960, he served in the Air Force. Mr. Walker was an electrical maintenance engineer for the Midland, Texas, District Schools for 10 years. He returned to Fort Sumner in 1986 where he owned and operated Walker's Appliance and Repair. He married Dorthy "Dottie" Nelson in 1976 at Roswell. Survivors include his wife; 10 sons, Bobby Walker of Lafayette, Iowa, Dale Walker of Midland, Walter Walker of Maybank, Texas, Jim Walker of Alpine, David Miles of Dallas, Danny Miles of Iowa, Darrell Miles of Durham, N.C., Dale Miles of Fort Worth and Dean Miles and Donny Miles, both of Amarillo; three daughters, Melba Cobos of Midland and Diane Sharber and Darlene Lemmon, both of Amarillo; three sisters, Lilly Greer of Roswell and Debbie Humphries and Sherry Kirk, both of North Carolina; and 27 grandchildren. Oklahoma Raymond L. Mann TYRONE, Okla. - Raymond L. Mann, 85, died Wednesday, Sept. 2, 1998, at Liberal, Kan. Services will be at 2 p.m. today in Tyrone Baptist Church with the Rev. Carl E. Hein officiating. Burial will be in Tyrone Cemetery by Roberts Brothers Funeral Home of Hooker. Mr. Mann was born in Tyrone, where he attended school. He married Mae Hopson in 1933 at Hooker. They moved to Valley Junction, Ore., where he worked as a lumberjack. They returned to Tyrone and he operated the Eason Oil Co. for a few years before working at Hugoton Gas Co. He then worked for 20 years as the city maintenance supervisor for the city of Tyrone. Mr. Mann was a member of Tyrone Baptist Church, was Sunday school secretary and drove the church bus. He was a member of Hooker Masonic Lodge, was a 32nd Degree Mason and had been a member of the Scottish Rite for 50 years. He was preceded in death by a son. Survivors include his wife; a son, Gerald Mann of Liberal, Kan.; a daughter, Valene Albert of Knowles, Okla.; a brother, Howard Mann of Commerce, Okla.; a sister, Katy Ballard of Abilene, Texas; a grandson; and a great-granddaughter. "Slim" Brown Jr., 68, died Wednesday, Sept. 2, 1998, at Liberal, Kan. Services will be at 10 a.m. today in Hooker Cemetery with the Rev. David Hoffman officiating. Arrangements are by Roberts Brothers Funeral Home. Mr. Brown was born in Lawton, Okla., and attended school in the Hobart area. He worked as an independent truck driver, retiring in 1994. He married Phennie Marie Smothermon in 1955 at Clayton, N.M. Mrs. Jefferson was born in Albuquerque, N.M., and had lived in Mineral Wells for 16 years. She was a homemaker and member of Trinity Baptist Church. She married Terry Jefferson in 1975 in Amarillo. Survivors include her husband; two sons, Kevin Jefferson of the Navy and Douglas Jefferson of Mineral Wells; a daughter, Amanda Jefferson of Mineral Wells; her father, William Green of Amarillo; a sister, Cheryl Upshaw of Greenville; and a brother, Norman Green of Amarillo. Patricia Moore ROSEVILLE, Calif. - Patricia "Pat" Moore, 66, a former Amarillo resident, died Tuesday, Sept. 1, 1998. Services will be Sunday in Lambert Funeral Home, 400 Douglas Blvd., Roseville, Calif. Inurnment will be in Rocklin Cemetery at a later date. Ms. Moore was born in Wylie, Texas. She graduated from Wichita Falls Senior High in 1949 then attended North Texas State University. She lived in Amarillo for 20 years where she was employed as a secretary for Pioneer Corporation then as executive secretary for Energas. She retired from Atmos Corp., in Dallas. Burial will be in Lazbuddie Cemetery by Rix Funeral Directors. Mrs. Davis was born in Westminster. From 1950 until her retirement in 1974, she was postmaster in Lazbuddie. She was a member of the United Methodist Church. She married Othele Mahan in 1935 at Westminster. He died in 1950. In 1970, she married O.F. Davis at Lazbuddie who died in 1988. Survivors include a daughter, Leota Jordan of Lubbock; a son, J.W. Hunt of Diana; a sister, Oka Miles of Amarillo; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Nolan H. Harlan BULA - Nolan H. Harlan, 78, died Thursday, Sept. 3, 1998. Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday in Sudan Church of Christ with Terry Wilson, minister, officiating. Burial will be in Littlefield Cemetery in Littlefield by Ellis Funeral Home of Sudan. Mr. Harlan was born in Carrizozo, N.M., and had lived in Bula since 1928. He served in the Army in World War II. He was a farmer. He was a member of the American Ex-Prisoners of War, the Purple Heart Association, the Disabled American Veterans and the Church of Christ. He married Betty Britt in 1953 at Amherst. Survivors include his wife; a son, John Harlan of Grand Forks, N.D.; a daughter, Ann Nixon of New Orleans; a sister, Ruth Corder of Redmond, Ore.; and seven grandchildren. He was a diesel mechanic and attended Primera Iglesia Bautista. The Rev. Jess DeBord SAMNORWOOD - The Rev. Jess DeBord, 71, of Sacramento, Calif., and a former resident of Samnorwood, died Tuesday, Sept. 1, 1998. Services will be at 2 p.m. today in Samnorwood Baptist Church with the Rev. R.L. Porter of Lubbock officiating. Burial will be in Plymouth Cemetery by Adams Funeral Home. The Rev. DeBord was born in Roosevelt, Okla., and graduated from Samnorwood High School in 1944. He served in the Navy during World War II. He attended Texas Tech University. The Rev. DeBord was a Southern Baptist minister from 1961 until his retirement in 1992. He was a member of the First Southern Baptist Church in Rio Linda, Calif. He married Jeralene White in 1948 at Lubbock. Survivors include his wife; two sons, Dale DeBord of Carmichael, Calif., and Gary DeBord of Anchorage, Alaska; a daughter, Cheryl Gribble of Andrews; two sisters, Georgia Lowe of Muleshoe and Flo Fuller of Tyler; and four grandchildren. Burial will be in Garden of Devotion at Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery by Minton / Chatwell Funeral Directors. Mrs. McDougle was born in Ashley County, Ark., and moved to Borger after her marriage. She was employed by Woolworth until it closed, then worked for TG&Y until she retired. She was a volunteer at Borger Nursing Home for many years and was a member of Fellowship Baptist Church. She married Charlie McDougle in 1933. He died in 1979. Survivors include a son, J.B. McDougle of Borger; six daughters, Charlene Blackburn of Allen, LaJoy Blaylock of Oklahoma City, Peggy Hamilton of Texas City, Cloyce Gibbons of Borger, Beverly Navarrette of Amarillo and Nancy Howard of Bryan; three brothers; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Kay Lanelle Patterson SPEARMAN - Kay Lanelle Patterson, 52, died Wednesday, Sept. 2, 1998 in Lubbock. Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. today in Holt Cemetery with the Rev. Ken Cole, pastor of First United Methodist Church, officiating. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Home. Miss Patterson was born in Borger. She is survived by her brother, James Roy Patterson of San Leon. William F. Harbin WELLINGTON - William F. "Bill" Harbin, 97, of Roscoe and a former Wellington resident, died Thursday, Sept. 3, 1998. Services will be at 2:30 p.m. Sunday in First Baptist Church of Wellington with the Rev. Derwin Comer, minister of youth and music, and the Rev. James McLeod, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in North Fairview Cemetery by Adams Funeral Home. Mr. Harbin was born near Quitman. With his parents, he moved to Carey in 1921. He was a resident of Wellington until he moved to Roscoe in 1995. As a young man, Mr. Harbin worked in a syrup mill and a lumber mill. He then farmed in Childress County and Collingsworth County until 1988. He pioneered irrigation farming in the Loco community. Mr. Harbin served as a deacon in First Baptist Church for more than 50 years. As a member of the church, he served in various capacities. He served on the Gin Board and was once named Farmer of The Year. He married Ruby Faulkenberry in 1925 at Childress. She died in 1996. Survivors include a daughter, Dorothy Meares of Roscoe; a sister, Fannie Whitten of Amarillo; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
