Griggs & Sons Funeral Directors, 2615 Paramount Blvd. Mrs. Roberson was born in Reno and moved to Amarillo from Lockney in 1942. For 25 years, she was employed as a sales clerk at Levines. She was a member of the West Amarillo Church of Christ. She married Hugh Day Roberson in 1924 at Lockney. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1952 and by a daughter, Joyce Sanders, in 1996. Survivors include two granddaughters, Cindy Johnson and Suzie Giles, both of Amarillo; three brothers, Paul Hays of Kress, Harvey Hays of Plainview and Elmer "Jiggs" Hays of Canyon; four sisters, Jewel Wakefield of Amarillo, Ada Richardson of Dalhart, Rae Ragle of Plainview and Pauline Barrett of Kress; three great-grandchildren; and two greatgreat-grandchildren. The family will be at 1104 W. 13th. Larry Orville Bradfield Larry Orville Bradfield, 51, of Amarillo, died Friday, Dec. 4, 1998. He moved to Amarillo from Roswell, N.M., 20 years ago. He married Janey Raymer in 1968 at Roswell. Survivors include his wife; a son, Robert Timothy Bradfield of Midway; a daughter, Terry Lynn Ortega of Amarillo; and a sister, Ruth Bradfield of Canyon. Rozell R. Jennings Rozell R. Jennings, 89, of Amarillo, died Thursday, Dec. 3, 1998. Services were at 2 p.m. Saturday in Colonial Funeral Chapel, 1010 W. Ninth, with Glen Walton officiating. Mrs. Jennings was born in Granite, Okla. She was a Baptist. She married M.D. Jennings in 1964 at Vega. He died in 1980. Survivors include two brothers, Jim Randell of Anaheim, Calif., and Donald R. Randall of Santa Anna, Calif.; and two sisters, Freeda Tolliver of Hedley and Sue Neel of Oklahoma City. Lenna E. Vickers Lenna E. Vickers, 81, of Amarillo, died Friday, Dec. 4, 1998. Edwin S. Cory Edwin S. Cory, 77, of Amarillo, died Friday, Dec. 4, 1998. Griggs & Sons Funeral Directors, 2615 Paramount Blvd. Mr. Cory was born in Alma, Ark. In World War II, he was a Navy Sea Bee attached to the 4th Marine division and went into Iwo Jima. He had been an Amarillo resident for more than 50 years. In 1948, Mr. Cory went to work for the U.S. Postal Service which included being Postmaster in Borger from 1971-76. He retired from the Postal Service and was a member of the Church of Christ. He married Velma Ruth Roark in 1941 at Amarillo. Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Sheri Dean and Sue Shields, both of Amarillo; five grandchildren; and a greatgranddaughter. Mr. Cogburn was born in Rufe, Okla. A Marine veteran, he had lived in Amarillo since 1947. He was a master plumber with Vaughan Plumbing and Apex Plumbing. He then owned and operated Cogburn Plumbing Co. He married Georgia Lou Fain in 1945 at Memphis. Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Teresa Cogburn of Amarillo; a sister, Hazel Province of Rufe; two brothers, A.L. Cogburn of Rufe and Jimmy Dale Cogburn of Arkansas; and a grandson. Mr. Denney was born in Elm Springs, Ark., and was an Army Air Corps veteran of World War II. He graduated from East High School in Wichita, Kan., and from Wichita State University in 1950. He had lived in Amarillo since 1956. Mr. Denney retired as geologist for Halliburton. He was a member of Panhandle Geological Society, Society of Petroleum Engineers and Society of Professional Well-Log Analysts. He was a member of the First Christian Church where he was elder emeritus, Sunday School superintendent, chairman of the board and a trustee. He was a former member of the Rotary Club of Amarillo, Amarillo Country Club, Amarillo Club and the Camera Club of Amarillo. Mr. Denney and his wife participated in the International Christian Youth Exchange Program and hosted an exchange student. He married Carol Avis Watt in 1944 at Big Spring. Survivors include his wife; a son, Dennis W. Denney of Rockwall, a daughter, Denise C. Miller of Amarillo; a brother, Carl A. Arrangements are by Brooks Funeral Directors of Canyon. Dr. Cain was born in Quanah and was a Marine veteran of World War II. He received his bachelors and master's degrees from West Texas State University. He received his doctorate from the University of Denver. Dr. Cain retired as a professor in the speech department from West Texas State University. For many years, he bred, trained and showed his Schipperkes to championships. He also conducted training classes. Dr. Cain was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, West Texas ExTeachers Association and was a lifetime member of the Panhandle Kennel Club. He married Scotty Scott in 1964 at Clovis, N.M. She died in 1993. Survivors include a daughter, Linda Claborn of Naperville, Ill.; two sisters, Wanda Faville of Clovis and Linnette McElroy of Vallejo, Calif.; and a granddaughter. Mrs. Johnson was born in Ochiltree and had lived in the area all her life. She was a homemaker and a member of First Baptist Church. She married Walter Hughes in 1938 at Quanah. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1975 and by a son, James Owen Hughes, in 1961. Mr. Ezzell was born in Tishomingo, Okla., and had been a Borger resident since 1946. He was a Navy veteran of World War II. In 1973, he received his master's degree from Texas Tech University. He retired as an engineer for Phillips Petroleum Co. Mr. Ezzell was a member of St. John's Catholic Church. A member of the Knights of Columbus, he was 4th and 3rd degree knight, Knight of the Year, past grand knight and lifetime knight. He was a member of the Chamber of Commerce in Borger and was active with the Boy Scouts. Mr. Ezzell formerly lived in England. He ran in the London marathon and Lyke Wake Walk. He married Flora Katherine Wallace in 1948 at Plainview. The family suggests memorials be to United Methodist Women. Gooch Baxter Purcell SAYRE, Okla. - Gooch Baxter Purcell, 78, died Friday, Dec. 4, 1998. Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday in Cheyenne United Methodist Church with the Rev. Bob Harris and A.L. Martin officiating. Burial will be in Cheyenne Cemetery by Rose Chapel Funeral Service. Mr. Purcell was born in Lelia Lake, Texas and was raised in Shamrock, Texas where he graduated from high school in 1937. A World War II veteran, he enlisted in the Marines in 1941 and served for five years including 26 months in the South Pacific. He received a field commission of captain. After his discharge, Mr. Purcell returned to Shamrock and enlisted in the Army Reserves. He served for 13 years helping to establish units at Shamrock and Cheyenne and retired as major. He married Marita Clay in 1944 at Shamrock. They moved to Cheyenne in 1953 and established G.B. Purcell Chevrolet/Pontiac dealership. She died in 1979. In 1980, he married Wanda Trammell. Together, they operated the Cheyenne Motel. Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Tempie Catherine Burris of Oklahoma City; two sons, Thomas Clay Purcell of Silver Springs, Md., and Robert Baxter Purcell of Hendersonville, Tenn.; a stepson, Arthur Trammell of Cheyenne; two sisters, Inez Hamilton of Possum Kingdom, Texas and Dorothy Ann Henderson of Pampa; a brother, Albert Purcell of San Diego; four grandchildren; and two stepgrandchildren. Mrs. Harrell was born in Amarillo where she graduated from Amarillo High School in 1938. In 1942, she received a bachelor of business administration from the University of Texas. She married John W. Kayser in 1943. He was killed in action in 1944 in World War II. In 1948, she married C.W. "Dub" Harrell at Amarillo. From 1948 until 1954, they owned and operated Palace Gift and Sundries. He died in 1991. Mrs. Harrell was an active member of Chapter CR of PEO, Fortnighters and Canasta Club. She was a former member of Junior Social Workers, Home Culture and the Philo Mathis Clubs. She was a member of Epworth United Methodist Church where she served as secretary. Survivors include two daughters, Carole Ann Erwin of Dallas and Barbara Harrell of Chickasha; a son, Bill Harrell of Norman; two brothers, W.W. "Bill" Askew Jr., and M.L. Elsewhere Henry Clay Landrum SNYDER - Henry Clay "H.C." Landrum, 74, died Thursday, Dec. 4, 1998. Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday in Fluvanna Methodist Church with the Rev. Neely Landrum, his son, and the Rev. Bob Kirk, pastor of St. Paul United Methodist Church at Midland, officiating. Burial will be in Fluvanna Cemetery by BellCypert-Seale Funeral Home. Mr. Landrum was a lifetime resident of Fluvanna. He was a retired farmer, carpenter and real estate broker. He was a member of the Fluvanna Methodist Church, was a 32nd Degree Mason, a member of the Order of Eastern Star and Scottish Rite Consistory. He married Ella Pauline Jobe in 1954 at Lovington, N.M. She died in 1997. Survivors include two sons, Mike Landrum of Round Rock and the Rev. Neely Landrum of Memphis, Texas; a sister, Geraldine Pudlo of Midland; and four grandchildren. Karen I. McCarrell ELKHART, Kan. - Karen I. McCarrell, 55, died Friday, Dec. 4, 1998. Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday in St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church. Burial will be in Elkhart Cemetery by Harrell Funeral Home. Mrs. McCarrell was born in Belle Fourche, S.D., and had been an Elkhart resident since 1972. She was deputy county treasurer of Morton County. She married Jack R. McCarrell in 1962 at Tacoma, Wash. She was preceded in death by a son, Billy, in 1997. Survivors include her husband; a son, Dennis Ray McCarrell of Rock Springs, Wyo.; her mother and stepfather, Mary and George Cowles of Yelm, Wash.; two brothers, Jerry Cowles of Tenino, Wash., and Bill Cowles of Yelm; a sister, Ruth Olson of Olympia, Wash.; and three grandchildren.
