Doris Ludene McCort Doris Ludene McCort, 77, of Temple, a former Amarillo resident, died Wednesday, Feb. 4, 1998. Mrs. McCort was born in Snyder. She graduated from high school in Floydada and attended college in Portales, N.M. She was a former longtime Amarillo resident and a lifetime member of the Ladies Auxiliary Club in Amarillo. She had been a resident of Temple since 1996, moving from Oklahoma City. She married Vaughn Wallace McCort in 1940 in Orange County, Calif. He died in 1980. Survivors include a son, Danney McCort of Salado; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery by SchoolerGordon Funeral Directors, 5400 Bell St. Mr. Hanes was born in Comanche County and moved to Amarillo when he was a child. He married Bette Jean Bringold in 1945 at Amarillo. He was a pipefitter and a member of Pipefitters Local Union No. 196. He also was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church. Mr. Hanes was a veteran of the Army Air Corps. He was a decorated World War II veteran having received the Fourragere 1940 and a Braid. He also received the EAME Campaign Medal with six bronze stars, a Bronze Star, the Good Conduct Medal, the Distinguished Unit Badge and the Overseas Service Bars. He served in Normandy, northern France, Ardennes, Rhineland and central Europe. He served in Air Offensive Europe and with the 406 Fighter Group that backed up Gen. Patton. Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Elizabeth Josephine Benton of Amarillo; and three grandchildren. The family will receive visitors at the funeral home from 5 to 7 p.m. today. They request memorials be to the Trinity Lutheran Church building fund. New Mexico Ronnie Stockton PORTALES, N.M. - Ronnie Stockton, 35, died Wednesday, Feb. 4, 1998. Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in First Baptist Church with Dr. Philip Fike and Eddie Kilmer officiating. Burial will be in Portales Cemetery by Wheeler Mortuary of Portales Inc. Mr. Stockton was born and raised in Portales. He graduated from Portales High School in 1980. He graduated from New Mexico State University in 1985 with a bachelor of science degree in biology and a minor in chemistry. He worked as a golf pro. He also had his stockbroker's license and his insurance license. In 1991, he earned a master of business administration degree from the University of New Mexico. Mr. Stockton obtained his teaching certificate from Eastern New Mexico University in 1994. He was named Outstanding Secondary Student Teacher. He taught at Portales High School for two years and coached football and golf at Clovis High School for one year. He then joined the football coaching staff at New Mexico State University in Las Cruces. He was active for many years in the Fellowship of Christian Athletes. She attended school in Nicholson County, Abra and Magic City. She also attended West Texas State University in Canyon. She taught school in Twitty, Kelton, Lela, Claude and Mobeetie. She was a member of Egan Park Baptist Church in McCook. She married Robert D. Dunaway in 1946 at Magic City. He died in 1996. Survivors include two sisters, Dorothy Sublett of McCook and Juanita Holman of Orland, Calif. June Devers BOOKER - Alva Elwood "June" Devers Jr., 80, died Thursday, Feb. 5, 1998. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday in United Methodist Church with the Rev. Monte Kreis officiating. Burial will be in Heart Cemetery by Good Samaritan Funeral Service. Mr. Devers was born in the Lone Tree community of Ochiltree County. He attended school at Huntoon before transferring to Booker, where he played basketball and baseball and participated in track. He married Alta Faye Sweet in 1937 at Arnett, Okla. They made their home northeast of Booker. Mr. Devers had been engaged in farming and ranching all his life. He attended United Methodist Church and was a member of the Masonic Lodge and the Rodeo Club. He served on the board of directors for Booker Equity for 16 years and was a baseball umpire in Booker and Perryton. Survivors include his wife; two sons, Darrell Devers of Booker and Jerry Devers of Chama, N.M.; two brothers, Clyde Devers of Booker and Arnold Devers of Balko, Okla.; a sister, Pauline Johnson of Altus, Okla.; two grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; and a stepgreat-grandson. Mrs. Burton was born in Sparta, Ill. She was raised and attended school in St. Louis. She married Pete Burton in 1945 at St. Louis. They moved to Wheeler in 1954 from Pampa. Mrs. Burton was the secretary for Burton Ford Co. in Wheeler for 25 years. She was a Baptist and a former member of the 54 Study Club and the American Legion Auxiliary. Survivors include her husband; two sons, Dickie Burton and Gary Don Burton, both of Wheeler; and three grandsons. Osage St., in Amarillo. Mr. Rector was born in Harkey Valley, Ark. He moved to Shamrock in 1929 and to Kelton in 1930. He married Lorene Pierce in 1935 at Shamrock. They moved to Allison in 1936. They lived in Mobeetie for two years before moving to Pampa in 1941. They moved back to Mobeetie in 1949. Mr. Rector worked as a farmer and a carpenter. In 1950, he began working for Santa Fe Railway. He retired in 1977 as a machine operator foreman. He was a member of the Mobeetie Masonic Lodge and First Baptist Church. He coached and played baseball. He was preceded in death by two daughters, Maxine Rector in 1938 and Carolyn Rector in 1944. Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Melba Corcoran of Mobeetie; three sons, Delbert L. Rector and Jerry L. Rector Sr., both of Amarillo, and Galen D. Rector of Hastings, Neb.; his stepmother, Ada Rector of Dardanelle, Ark.; three sisters, Carmon Horn of Grand Rapids, Minn., Bobbye Rector of Perry, Ark., and Edna Lee Hazel of Danville, Ark.; four brothers, Jack Rector of Palo Verde, Calif., Virgil Rector of Apple Valley, Calif., Jay Rector of Amber, Okla., and Dock Rector of Dardanelle; 21 grandchildren; and 41 great-grandchildren. The family requests memorials be to Hospice of the Panhandle or the Mobeetie Cemetery Association. Charles Sides DALHART - Charles "K.O." Sides, 85, died Thursday, Feb. 5, 1998. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in Memorial Park Cemetery with Ray M. Guy, minister of First Christian Church, and the Rev. Glendon Pyle, pastor of Wesleyan Church, officiating. Arrangements are by Hass Funeral Home Inc. Mr. Sides was born in Pratt, Kan. He was raised in Dalhart and attended Dalhart schools. He worked for the Rock Island Railroad and owned and operated Carter Motor Co. for many years. He worked in California building submarines from 1941 to 1946. He was a Methodist and a member of the Knights Templar of Texas. He served on the Dalhart City Council for three terms. Mr. Sides married Hazel Israel in 1933. Survivors include his wife; two sons, Charles J. Sides and Richard M. Sides, both of Dalhart; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. The family requests memorials be to a favorite charity.
