Services will be at 10 a.m. today in Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors Colonial Chapel with the Rev. Rick Parnell, associate pastor of Central Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery with graveside rites courtesy of Pampa Masonic Lodge 966 AF&AM. Mr. Alverson was born near Whitewright and had lived in Pampa since 1941. He worked for Phillips Petroleum Co. for more than 34 years before retiring in 1972. He was a member of Central Baptist Church and Pampa Masonic Lodge 966 AF&AM. He married Veda Mae Thomas in 1929. She died July 20. He also was preceded in death by a daughter, Peggy Louise McKnight, in 1981. Survivors include a daughter, Alma Ruth McBride of Pampa; a grandson; and three great-grandchildren. Glenn Morgan PLAINVIEW - Glenn Morgan, 73, died Sunday, Oct. 4, 1998. Services will be at 2 p.m. today in College Heights Baptist Church with the Rev. Don Robertson, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Plainview Memorial Park by Lemons Funeral Home. Mr. Morgan was born, raised and attended school in Comanche, Okla. He farmed there until moving to Lockney in 1947 where he continued to farm. Mr. Morgan moved to Plainview in 1963. He was a member of Parkview Baptist Church and became a deacon in 1972. In 1982, he retired from farming. He married Minnie Foster in 1946 at Byers. Survivors include his wife; three daughters, Sharolyn Morgan McMasters of Levelland and Patricia S. Morgan Hammit and Becky Morgan Wiggs, both of Plainview; two sons, Jerry Glen Morgan and Gary Lloyd Morgan, both of Plainview; a sister, Lois Calvin of Lockney; and 14 grandchildren. "Bill" Harlan, 77, died Sunday, Oct. 4, 1998. Services will be at 2:30 p.m. today in Wood-Dunning Colonial Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Travis Hart and Paul Frisbe officiating. Burial will be in Parklawn Memorial Gardens. Mr. Harlan was born in Floyd County. As a small child, he moved to Petersburg where he graduated from school in 1940. He served with the 8th Army Air Corps for two years in the states and England and was with the 89th Infantry for 21/2 years in France and Germany. In 1948, Mr. Harlan moved to Plainview. He was employed by Southwestern Public Service Co. for 35 years and was a member of First Baptist Church. He married Faye Bramlet in 1983. Survivors include his wife; four daughters, Sandra Ryan of Omaha, Neb., Judy Buchanan of Plainview, Cindy Richau of Windsor, Colo., and Karan Smith of Lubbock; two stepdaughters, Nelda Krause of Las Cruces, N.M., and Eva Spencer of Plainview; a brother, Reggie Harlan of Lubbock; six grandchildren; and two stepgrandchildren. Barbara Belle Detrixhe HIGGINS - Barbara Belle Detrixhe, 90, died Sunday, Oct. 4, 1998, in Shattuck, Okla. Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in First Baptist Church of Higgins with the Rev. Clifford Baze and the Rev. Harold Hook officiating. Burial will be in the Higgins Cemetery by Mason Funeral Home of Shattuck. Mrs. Detrixhe was born in a dugout near Packsaddle, Okla., and went to school in Bishop community. For 57 years, she lived south of Higgins where she farmed and ranched with her husband. She moved into Higgins 12 years ago. She married Benjamin Francis Detrixhe in 1926 at Canadian. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1984 and by a daughter, Barbara Louise. Survivors include four children, Ben Detrixhe of Butler, Okla., Frances Kelln of Littleton, Colo., Jack Detrixhe of Higgins and Sylvia Pressler of Morrison, Colo.; three sisters, Zelma Ramsey of Lancaster, Calif., Ruth Fleming of Reedley, Calif., and Alice Mercer of Williams, Ariz.; eight grandchildren; and 19 greatgrandchildren. The family suggests memorials be to First Baptist Church of Higgins. J. Paul Waggoner DIMMITT - J. Paul Waggoner, 78, died Sunday, Oct. 4, 1998. Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in First Baptist Church with the Rev. Howard Rhodes, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Castro Memorial Gardens by Foskey-Lilley-McGill Funeral Home. Mr. Waggoner was born in Wilbarger County and moved to Castro County in 1924. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Dimmitt, the Scottish Rite and was a 32nd Degree Mason. In 1978, he retired from farming and owned Waggoner Farm Store for 10 years and W&W Communications for eight years. He married Gertie Bell in 1934 at Yuma, Ariz. Survivors include his wife; two sons, Mickey Lee Waggoner of Trenton, Ohio, and Jimmy Doyle Waggoner of Lubbock; a sister, Claudia James of Austin; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Lorena Helen Hahn PAMPA - Lorena Helen Hahn, 98, of Oklahoma City and a longtime Pampa resident, died Monday, Oct. 5, 1998. Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Groom Cemetery with the Rev. Harold Hook, pastor of Hobart Baptist Church, officiating. Arrangements are by Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors of Pampa. Mrs. Hahn was born in Portales, N.M. She moved to Pampa in 1953 from Groom and recently moved to Oklahoma City. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star. She married John Monroe Hahn in 1922 at Chandler, Okla. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1963 and by a son, John George Hahn, on Sept. 28. Survivors include a son, William Hahn Sr., of Pampa; a daughter, Berniece Clark of Moore, Okla.; a brother, Robert Melton of Oklahoma City; a sister, Ann Carpenter of Hulbert, Okla.; three grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. Ina V. Moon WELLINGTON - Ina V. Moon, 86, died Sunday, Oct. 4, 1998. Mrs. Moon was born in Joplin, Mo., and moved to Wellington in 1990 from New Mexico. She was a homemaker and member of The Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses. She married Lewis Moon in 1933 at New Mexico. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1977 and by a son, Wesley Eugene Moon, in 1945. Survivors include a son, Rolf F. Moon of San Antonio; two daughters, Joann Layva of Las Vegas and Beverly Chilton of Wellington; a brother, Lester Johnson of Scammon, Kan.; 12 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and three great-greatgrandchildren. Grace Hoover BOOKER - Grace Hoover, 83, died Sunday, Oct. 4, 1998. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday in Booker Christian Church with Bob Taylor and David Glascoe officiating. Burial will be in Sophia Cemetery, northeast of Booker, by Good Samaritan Funeral Service of Booker. Mrs. Hoover was born in Beaver County, Okla., and attended South Flat country school. She graduated from Booker High School in 1933 and married Leon Hoover that August. In 1934, they moved to Murtaugh, Idaho, where they owned a house-moving business. In 1942, Mrs. Hoover and her husband returned to the Oklahoma Panhandle. Following the death of her husband, she moved to Booker. She was a member of the Church of Christ. Survivors include four sons, Earle Hoover and Troy Hoover, both of Elmwood, Okla., Jerry Hoover of Booker and Johnnie Hoover of Forgan, Okla.; four daughters, Noreen Lenz and Louise Lee, both of Enid, Okla., Rose Marie Meyer of Booker and Mary Ann Earls of Guymon, Okla.; 27 grandchildren; and 35 greatgrandchildren. The family suggests memorials be to Twin Oaks Manor. Amarillo Robert W. Caine Robert W. "Bob" Caine, 62, of Amarillo, died Sunday, Oct. 4, 1998. Mass will be celebrated at 2 p.m. today in St. Hyacinth's Catholic Church by Monsignor Harold Waldow. Burial will be in Llano East Cemetery by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 S. Georgia. Mr. Caine was born in Swampscott, Mass. He served in the Air Force, retiring in 1977. He was an instructor at Shepperd Air Force Base in Wichita Falls until 1993 and had worked for the Veterans Administration Hospital until retiring in 1996. He served as a HOSTS volunteer for the Amarillo Independent School District and was a member of St. Hyacinth's Catholic Church. He married Joan Miller in 1978 in Denver. Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Ann Marie Caine of Amarillo; his mother, Lorraine Dow of West Paris, Maine; and a half brother, Clifford Dow of West Paris. The family requests memorials be to a favorite charity. Roma Jean Getman Dustman Roma Jean Getman Dustman, 62, of Amarillo, died Saturday, Oct. 3, 1998. Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday in East Mausoleum in Memorial Park Cemetery with the Rev. Robert Fields officiating. Arrangements are by Colonial Funeral Chapel, 1010 W. Ninth Ave. Mrs. Dustman was born and raised in Amarillo where she was a lifelong resident. She was a homemaker. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Henry Dustman. Survivors include five sons, Mikey Dustman of Colorado and Bill Dustman, Robert Dustman, Ricky Dustman and Timmy Dustman, all of Amarillo; a daughter, Dustie Vibbard of Amarillo; four brothers, Bob, Rod and Mike Getman, all of Amarillo, and David Getman of Houston; 19 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Hill, 72, of Amarillo, died Monday, Oct. 5, 1998. Private family services will be at Llano Cemetery with the Rev. Bill Wade, associate pastor of Polk Street United Methodist Church, officiating. Arrangements are by Rector Funeral Home, 2800 S. Osage St. Mrs. Hill was born in Texola, Okla., and lived in Amarillo for most of her life. For more than 10 years, she was an antique dealer. She was a member of Sunrise PTA, Amarillo WIBC for more than 25 years and Polk Street United Methodist Church. She coached softball for Kids, Inc. for several years. She married T.L. "Hoot" Hill in 1951 at Donley, Colo. He died in 1991. Survivors include three daughters, Vandetta Comtois of Dallas, Mary Haynes of Abilene and Renee Welling of Amarillo; a son, Tracy Hill of Amarillo; a sister, Earlene McGuire of Thomaston, Ga.; and five grandchildren. Bell, 95, died Saturday, Oct. 3, 1998. Services will be at 1 p.m. today in Steed-Todd Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Clifford Roberts officiating. Burial will be in Fort Sumner Cemetery. Mr. Bell was born in Morehouse, Mo., and was a longtime resident of New Mexico. He married Irene Rodgers in 1929 in Montezuma. She preceded him in death. He retired from the Santa Fe Railway in 1970, and was a volunteer at High Plains Nursing Center. He was a member of the National Association of Retired and Veteran Railway Employees, Inc. and was a 32nd Degree Mason. He belonged to the Fort Sumner Mount Moriah Loge 54, Clovis Lodge 40 AF&AM, the Ballut Abyad Temple of Albuquerque and the Clovis BPOE Elks Lodge. He was a lifetime member of Scottish Rite, Valley of Santa Fe, a past vice president and president of the Senior Citizens of Clovis and had served on the Curry County Council for the Aging. Survivors include two daughters, Linda Brown of Clovis and Lourie Davis of Tulsa, Okla.; a sister, Clara Fore of Clovis, Calif.; two grandchildren; two greatgrandchildren; and a friend, Ann Bohannan. Alta S. Bost CLOVIS, N.M. - Alta S. Bost, 78, died Sunday, Oct. 4, 1998. Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday in First United Methodist Church with the Rev. John McClean and the Rev. James Robbins officiating. Burial will be in Lawn Haven Memorial Gardens by Muffley Funeral Home of Clovis. Mrs. Bost was born in Dodge City, Texas. She graduated from Texas Tech University. She moved to Clovis in 1947 where she was an English teacher at Clovis High School. From 1970 until 1986, she was executive director of the Curry County United Way. She was a member of First United Methodist Church, Clovis Duplicate Bridge Unit, Friday Women's Bridge Club and was a life master bridge player. She married George V. Bost in 1940 at Clovis. He preceded her in death in 1973. Survivors include a daughter, Nannette B. Winton of Clovis; a sister, Weta Wylie of Lubbock, Texas; a brother, Kenneth Spykes of Tucson, Ariz.; and a grandson. Louis Montoya, deacon, officiating. Burial will be in Clayton Memorial Cemetery by Hass Funeral Directors of Clayton. Mrs. Leal was born in Folsom and was a lifelong resident of Union County. She was a member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church. In 1976, she married Carlos Leal at Clayton. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Narciso A. Cardenas, in 1958 and by a stepson, Charles Leal. Survivors include two daughters, Dorothy Lucero of Albuquerque and Tonie Valdez of Belen; five sons, Anthony Cardenas of Clovis, Ronnie Cardenas of Las Vegas, Narce Cardenas of Clayton, Harold Cardenas of San Antonio and Tommy Clapper of Roswell; a stepson, John D. Oklahoma Reidie Gum GUYMON, Okla. - Reidie Ferguson Gum, 92, of Hardesty, died Saturday, Oct. 3, 1998, in Guymon. Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday in Apostolic Faith Church in Hardesty with the Rev. Ron Brenning, pastor, and the Rev. Horace Tyson, pastor of Bethel Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Elmhurst Cemetery. Arrangements are by Henson-Novak Funeral Directors. Mrs. Gum was born in Blair and moved in a covered wagon to the Banner community where she attended school. She married Roy Franklin Gum in 1925 in Optima. She and her husband were involved with farming and cattle. He preceded her in death in 1966. She was a member of the Range Community Church, which later merged with the Apostolic Faith Church, and also was a member of the Range Missionary Club. Survivors include a daughter, Martha Gibson of Hardesty; a son, Robert Gum of Gainesville, Texas; 11 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and two greatgreat-grandchildren. Burial was in East Hill Cemetery. Arrangements were by Fort Stockton Funeral Home. Mrs. Bennett was born in McQueen, Okla., and was raised in Allison, where she graduated from high school in 1943. She had lived in Fort Stockton since 1962. She was a homemaker and a member of the Joy Sunday School Class at First Baptist Church. She had served as a Pink Lady for the Pecos County Hospital Auxiliary and was a member of the Comanche Springs Garden Club and the Fort Stockton Extension Homemakers Club. She married Donald J. Bennett in 1944 in Arnett, Okla. Survivors include her husband; three sons, Donnie Lee Bennett of Amarillo, Roger W. Bennett of Fort Stockton and Dwight L. Bennett of Kermit; a daughter, Sue Boles of Breckenridge; a brother, Bill Wise of Clarendon; two sisters, Louise Wright of Amarillo and Dorothy Daniel of Watsonville, Calif.; 12 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. W. Otis Nickels LUBBOCK - W. Otis Nickels, 49, died Saturday, Oct. 3, 1998. Memorial services will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday in St. Luke's United Methodist Church with the Rev. Tom Mills officiating. Arrangements are by Resthaven Funeral Home. Mr. Nickels was born in Crosby County. He graduated from Spur High School in 1967 and was an Army veteran of the Vietnam war. He moved to Lubbock 15 years ago from Spur. Mr. Nickels was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars in Dimmitt, the IBCA BBQ Association and the WTBA BBQ Association. He married Nancy Evans in August at Dickens. Survivors include his wife; a son, Montie Charles Nickels of Portales, N.M.; his parents, Mary and Charles Nickels of Littlefield; three stepdaughters, Rebecca Goldston of Seminole and Sarah Carlisle and Amy Carlisle, both of Midland; a sister, Charlene Nickels of Austin; and a grandchild. Dewey Allen Hicks TUCSON, Ariz. - Dewey Allen Hicks, 57, died Wednesday, Sept. 23, 1998. A celebration of his life will be at 11:30 a.m. Thursday in Christ the King Church, 2800 W. Ina Road. Arrangements are by Heather Mortuary of Tucson. Mr. Hicks was born in Amarillo and graduated from the University of Arizona. For 25 years, he was associated with A.G. Edwards and Sons as vice-president. Mr. Hicks was a founding member of Christ the King Church where he served for many years as a member of the Vestry. He was involved with the German Shorthair Pointer Club of America and its local chapter. His Golden Hawk Kennels produced several dogs that gained national recognition as field champions. Survivors include his wife, Susan McWilliams Hicks; three daughters, Savannah Grace Hicks, Tammy Hicks Marshall and Deidre Hicks Conner; a stepdaughter, Amanda Lee Bennett; and six grandchildren.
