Mr. Angenend was born in Houston and grew up in Denton. For the past 18 years, he had lived in Dumas where he was previously employed by Agri-Weigh Scale Co., for 18 years. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Dumas. Survivors include two daughters, Cynthia Darcel Long of Dallas and Halle Lynne Angenend of Borger; a son, Sgt. Kenneth Bryce Angenend of Yokosuka, Japan; two sisters, Lyn Ann Sanders of Stinnett and Mary Laura Sitton of Amarillo; a half-sister, Patricia Joann Love of Midland; a half-brother, Michael Keith Fleming of Midland; and his stepfather, James Fleming of Midland. Dale Loren Johnston Dale Loren Johnston, 78, of Lubbock and formerly of Amarillo, died Thursday, Sept. 3, 1998. Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday in Schooler Funeral Home, Brentwood Chapel, 4100 S. Georgia St. Mr. Johnston was born and raised in Texola, Okla. He was a Navy Sea Bee in World War II, then lived in California. He moved to Amarillo in 1956 where he lived until moving to Lubbock in 1996. He was a barber and a farmer. He married Cordelia Bessire in 1940 at Sayre, Okla. Survivors include his wife; four sons, Dale Johnston and Gregory Johnston, both of Amarillo, and Steve Johnston and Mark Johnston, both of Lubbock; a daughter, Dolores J. Arndt of Lubbock; a brother, Clint Johnston of Oklahoma City; a sister, Imogene Rhoades of Elk City, Okla.; six grandchildren; and four greatgrandchildren. He married Mary Paine in 1931 at Amarillo. With her husband, she owned and operated Cuellar Tortilla Co., in Amarillo for more than 40 years. She was a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church where she was a member of the building committee when the church was built. She married Mariano Cortez Cuellar in 1946 at Amarillo. He preceded her in death in 1989. Survivors include a son, David Cuellar of Amarillo; six daughters, Helen Hall and Linda Cuellar, both of Amarillo, Edna Cuellar of Westbranch, Iowa, Dian Ruud of Abilene, Cynthia Cuellar of Fairfax, Va., and Maria Christina Cuellar of Cummaquid, Mass.; 17 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. Gladman, 70, of St. Louis, a former Amarillo resident, died Saturday, Sept. 5, 1998. Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday in Memorial Park Cemetery with Glen Walton officiating. Arrangements are by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 S. Georgia St. Mr. Gladman was born in Arkansas City, Kan. He grew up in Dimmitt, where he attended school. In 1950 he moved to Amarillo. For several years he worked for Cook Book Bread. A carpenter, he owned and operated Gladman's Cabinet Shop until 1988, when he moved to Santa Rosa, Calif. He retired in 1991. He was a member of the Church of Christ. He married Norma R. Stone in 1970 at Amarillo. Survivors include his wife; a son, Jesse Gladman of Sebastopol, Calif.; a daughter, Barbara Howard, of Amarillo; a stepson, Michael Fugitt of Watauga; a stepdaughter, Diana Hamrick of Amarillo; and two grandchildren. New Mexico Jerry Dennis Walker FORT SUMNER, N.M. - Jerry Dennis Walker, 59, died Wednesday, Sept. 2, 1998. Graveside services were at 6 p.m. (MST) Saturday in Fort Sumner Cemetery. Arrangements were by Chavez Funeral Home of Fort Sumner. Mr. Walker was born in Clovis and was raised in Fort Sumner where he attended schools. He lived in Clovis and Roswell where he worked as a bricklayer with his father. From 1956 until 1960, he served in the Air Force. Mr. Walker was an electrical maintenance engineer for the Midland, Texas, District Schools for 10 years. He returned to Fort Sumner in 1986 where he owned and operated Walker's Appliance and Repair. He married Dorthy "Dottie" Nelson in 1976 at Roswell. Area The Rev. Jess DeBord SAMNORWOOD - The Rev. Jess DeBord, 71, of Sacramento, Calif., and a former resident of Samnorwood, died Tuesday, Sept. 1, 1998. Services were at 2 p.m. Saturday in Samnorwood Baptist Church with the Rev. R.L. Porter of Lubbock officiating. Burial was in Plymouth Cemetery by Adams Funeral Home. Rev. DeBord was born in Roosevelt, Okla., and graduated from Samnorwood High School in 1944. He served in the Navy during World War II. He attended Texas Tech University. Rev. DeBord was a Southern Baptist minister from 1961 until his retirement in 1992. He was a member of the First Southern Baptist Church in Rio Linda, Calif. He married Jeralene White in 1948 at Lubbock. She was employed by Woolworth until it closed, then worked for TG&Y until she retired. She was a volunteer at Borger Nursing Home for many years and was a member of Fellowship Baptist Church. She married Charlie McDougle in 1933. He died in 1979. Survivors include a son, J.B. McDougle of Borger; six daughters, Charlene Blackburn of Allen, LaJoy Blaylock of Oklahoma City, Peggy Hamilton of Texas City, Cloyce Gibbons of Borger, Beverly Navarrette of Amarillo and Nancy Howard of Bryan; three brothers; grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She is survived by her brother, James Roy Patterson of San Leon. William F. Harbin WELLINGTON - William F. "Bill" Harbin, 97, of Roscoe and a former Wellington resident, died Thursday, Sept. 3, 1998. Services will be at 2:30 p.m. today in First Baptist Church of Wellington with the Rev. Derwin Comer, minister of youth and music, and the Rev. James McLeod, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in North Fairview Cemetery by Adams Funeral Home. Mr. Harbin was born near Quitman. With his parents, he moved to Carey in 1921. He was a resident of Wellington until he moved to Roscoe in 1995. Mr. Harbin worked in a syrup mill and a lumber mill. He then farmed in Childress County and Collingsworth County until 1988. He pioneered irrigation farming in the Loco community. Mr. Harbin served as a deacon in First Baptist Church for more than 50 years. As a member of the church, he served in various capacities. He served on the Gin Board and was named Farmer of The Year. He married Ruby Faulkenberry in 1925 at Childress. She died in 1996. Survivors include a daughter, Dorothy Meares of Roscoe; a sister, Fannie Whitten of Amarillo; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Mrs. Turcotte was born in Fannin County and came to Childress in 1903 by covered wagon. She later moved to Wheeler, where she married Chancey David Turcotte in 1916. She and her husband settled in Pampa and farmed in Gray and Roberts Counties for many years. She was a member of the Church of the Brethren. Her husband died in 1955. She also was preceded in death by a son, David D. Turcotte. Survivors include a daughter, Edna F. In 1951 she moved from Amarillo to Olton, where she operated Carma's Trim & Curl Beauty Salon from 1964 until she retired in 1980. A Dumas resident for 33 years, he retired in 1983 as an operator for Phillips Petroleum. He was a member of First Baptist Church. His wife, Leona Culpepper, died in 1985. He also was preceded in death by a son, Joe Culpepper, in 1983. Burial will be in Plainview Cemetery. Mrs. Armendariz was born in Asherton and grew up in Plainview, where she attended school. She was a homemaker and had worked as a midwife. In 1993 she moved to Fort Worth. She married Antonio Armendariz. Mae Mahan Davis LAZBUDDIE - Mae Mahan Davis, 93, of Lubbock, a former resident of Lazbuddie, died Friday, Sept. 4, 1998. Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday in the Methodist Church of Lazbuddie with the Rev. Sidney Parsley and the Rev. Al E. Jennings officiating. Burial will be in Lazbuddie Cemetery by Rix Funeral Directors of Lubbock. Mrs. Davis was born in the Graybell Community near Westminster. She served as the postmaster in Lazbuddie from 1950 until she retired in 1974. She was a Methodist. She married Othele Mahan in 1935 at Westminster. He died in 1950. In 1970 she married O.F. Davis at Lazbuddie. He died in 1988. Survivors include a daughter, Leota Jordan of Lubbock; a son, J.W. Nelson LELIA LAKE - R.O. Nelson, 77, died Friday, Sept. 4, 1998. Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday in Martin Baptist Church in Clarendon with the Rev. Bryan Knowles, pastor, and the Rev. Lewis Ellis, Baptist minister from Lefors, officiating. Burial will be at 4 p.m. in Westlawn Cemetery in Dimmitt by Robertson Funeral Directors Inc. Mr. Nelson was born in Newlin. A World War II Army veteran, he fought in the Battle of the Bulge as a member of the 8th Armored Division. Mr. Nelson was a resident of Dimmitt from 1955 until 1969, when he moved to Lelia Lake. While in Dimmitt, he and his wife owned and operated a wholesale and retail service station business. After moving to Lelia Lake, he farmed and ranched. He was a member of Martin Baptist Church. He married Allena Wallace in 1947 at Abilene. He was preceded in death by a son, W. Jay Nelson, in 1987. Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Jean Petty of Tulia; a son, George O. Nelson of Dimmitt; two sisters, Lanell Tucker of Dimmitt and Lillian Schreck of Albuquerque, N.M.; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Clay Anderson PLAINVIEW - Clay Anderson, 85, died Friday, Sept. 4, 1998. Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday in First Baptist Church Family Life Chapel with Dr. Travis Hart, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Parklawn Memorial Gardens by Lemons Funeral Home. Mr. Anderson was born in Celeste and moved at an early age to Madill, Okla. He graduated from Lockney High School and worked as a mechanic and truck driver. During World War II he worked as an airplane mechanic at Kelly Air Force Base in San Antonio and Cannon Air Force Base in Clovis, N.M. In 1944 Mr. Anderson moved to Plainview, where he was shop foreman at Cooper Cadillac & Pontiac. He also worked for Smith Mickey Garage. Moving to Hart in 1948, he began farming what is now known as Nanny Farms. In 1952 he started Grade A Dairy in Nazareth. He moved to Stinnett in 1970 and returned to Plainview in 1977. He was a member of First Baptist Church and of Charles Bassett Sunday School Class. He married Mildred Luttrell in 1935 at Lockney. Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Galia Davis of Hart; a son, Gayland Anderson of Lubbock; three sisters, Mozelle Durham of Aztec, N.M., and Ellen Anderson and Elsie Peckham, both of Canyon; six grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association. Hortense Pelphrey PLAINVIEW - Hortense "H.P." Pelphrey, 71, died Friday, Sept. 4, 1998. Burial will be in Plainview Memorial Park. Mr. Pelphrey was born in Plainview. He was a Navy veteran, serving in World War II. In 1947 he was employed by the Plainview Police Department. Mr. Pelphrey served as chief of police in Plainview for more than 20 years, from January 1956 until November 1976. He then moved to Mabank, where he served as chief deputy of the Kaufman County Sheriff's Department until he retired in 1992. He married Rena Faye Akers in 1946. She died in 1990. In 1992 he married Wanda Arlene Jean. Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Evelyn Garrison of Mabank; three sons, Carl Pelphrey of Plainview, George "Buddy" Pelphrey of Mabank and William Pelphrey of Lithia Springs, Ga.; two stepsons, Dennis Jean and Clarence Jean, both of Fort Worth; a sister, JoAnn Simpson of Arlington; 11 grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter. She graduated from Wichita Falls Senior High and attended North Texas State University. She lived in Amarillo for 20 years where she was employed as a secretary for Pioneer Corp. then as executive secretary for Energas. She retired from Atmos Corp. in Dallas. Mr. Stewart was born in Clarendon, Texas. An electrical engineer, he had retired from General Electric Co. after 25 years of service. He was a Presbyterian. After moving to Lubbock, she volunteered at Highland Hospital Auxiliary. She was a member of Christian Singles and Westminster Presbyterian Church. She married Guy Wright in 1933 at Osage Mills, Ark. He died in 1964. She also was preceded in death by a son, Guy Alden Wright, in 1957. The family requests memorials be to a favorite charity. Russell Alpheus Ramey, Jr. DALLAS - Russell Alpheus Ramey, Jr., 82, died Saturday, Aug. 29, 1998. No services are planned. Arrangements are by Forest Lawn Funeral Home at Turtle Creek. Mr. Ramey was born in El Paso, where he graduated from Burgess High School. He attended the University of Texas at El Paso. He retired as a civil engineer and architect. A World War II veteran, Mr. Ramey served with the 555th AAFBU out of Love Field. He received the Distinguished Unit Badge, Good Conduct Medal, American Theater Service Medal and EAME Service Medal with seven Bronze Battle Stars. Survivors includelisted} his former wife, Katherine Leann Ladd Ramey Ladd of Ruidoso, N.M.; two sons, Russell Alpheus Ramey III of Austin and Leonard Veltis Ladd Ramey of Dallas; a daughter, Nancy Carla Ramey of Vashon Island, Wash.; his former wife, Nancy Schultz of St. Petersburg, Fla.; two granddaughters; and three great-grandchildren.
