Uial T. Lamb SKELLYTOWN - Uial T. Lamb, 90, died Monday, Jan. 5, 1998, at Bartlesville, Okla. Mr. Lamb was born in Gassville, Ark., and moved to the Skellytown and Spring Creek communities in 1926 from Arkansas, where he had lived for 57 years. He worked as a pumper for Amoco Oil for 38 years and was a member of First Baptist Church of Skellytown. He married Nina Marlar in 1927 at Arkansas. She died in 1969. He married Jessie Steven in 1971 at Skellytown. She died in 1988. He also was preceded in death by a son, Harold Lamb in 1979. Survivors include three sons, F.A. Lamb of Bartlesville, Jimmie Lamb of Sunray and Preston Lamb of Pampa; a daughter, Sue Dolan of Orange; three sisters, Gladys Williams of Oklahoma, Ethal Powell of Texarkana and Edna Covington of Borger; 14 grandchildren; and 22 greatgrandchildren. Cornelio Martinez HEREFORD - Cornelio Martinez, 60, died Monday, Jan. 5, 1998. He was a member of San Jose Catholic Church. He was a farm laborer. He married Ramona Torrez in 1958 at Hereford. He was an Army veteran of World War II and received the Purple Heart. He was a retired ranch foreman for the Conley Estate. He married Melba Bates in 1958 at Fort Worth. Mrs. Simpson was born in Point. She moved from Wise County to Childress in 1921 and lived there for 65 years. She was a homemaker. She married John Simpson in 1927 at Childress. He died in 1986. She was also preceded in death by an infant son. She moved to Amarillo in 1986 and to Lewisville in 1990. Survivors include a son, Nolan Ray Simpson of Lewisville; a daughter, Loretta Walkup of Amarillo, a brother, Weldon W. Teague of Childress; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Aaron Dewayne Ewing DIMMITT - Aaron Dewayne Ewing, 19, died Friday, Jan. 2, 1998. Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday in First Baptist Church. Burial will be in Westlawn Memorial Park by Foskey-Lilley-McGill Funeral Home. Mr. Ewing was born in Hereford and had been a lifetime Dimmitt resident. He graduated from Dimmitt High School in 1997. He participated in varsity track, junior varsity basketball for two years, woodworking and the agriculture program. He had been employed at Denton State School in the laundry department. Oklahoma Kathryn Root GUYMON, Okla. - Kathryn Root, 80, a former Guymon resident, died Thursday, Jan. 1, 1998. Services will be at 2 p.m. today in the Bunch-Roberts Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Jim Jacobson, a Presbyterian pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Elmhurst Cemetery. Mrs. Root was born in Guymon. She moved to Oklahoma City when she was 16 and attended beauty school. She moved to San Francisco, Calif., in 1934 and returned to Guymon in 1963. She moved to Schererville, Ind., in 1997. She had worked as a beautician with Three's Company at Guymon for many years and was a member of the Presbyterian church. She married James Lawrence Root in 1946 at Reno, Nev. He died in 1972. Survivors include two daughters, Karen McClenahan of Schererville and Bobbye Root of Oklahoma City; a sister, Marjorie Hull of Las Vegas, Nev.; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. The family requests memorials be to a favorite charity. Louise Moore Andress TULSA, Okla. - Louise Moore Andress, 91, died Saturday, Jan. 3, 1998. Services were Tuesday in First Baptist Church with the Rev. Charles Collins officiating. Burial will be at 11 a.m. today in Riverside Cemetery at Mangum. Arrangements are by Hayhurst Funeral Home. Mrs. Andress was born in Mangum. She graduated from Texola High School, attended Chickasha Oklahoma Women's College and received her teaching certificate from West Texas Normal School. She taught at schools in Erick, Ladessa, Texola and Borger, Texas. She married A.J. "Joe" Andress in 1927 at Erick. He died in 1993. She was a member of the Borger Collectors Club and the Phillips Garden Club. She was a member of First Baptist Church and taught Sunday school for 62 years. Survivors include two daughters, Joelyn Phillips of Broken Arrow and Francille Mahan of Deer Park, Texas; a son, Don Andress of Bartlesville; a sister, Lucille Moore of Tulsa; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. He married Margaret Buckingham in 1936 at Clovis, N.M. Clyda Mitchell Nichols ROARING SPRINGS - Clyda Mitchell Nichols, 74, of Lucerne Valley, Calif., a former resident of Roaring Springs, died Saturday, Sat. 6, 1997. Services were in St. Michael's Catholic Church at Bellevue, Ohio. Mr. Muehling was born in Sandusky, Ohio. He attended Margaretta School at Castalia, Ohio. He married Betty Good in 1941 and entered the Army in 1942, serving 31/2 years in the Pacific Zone. He was a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion. He also was a member of 4 County Young at Heart Senior Center at Bellevue. He was an employee of Ford Motor Co. at Sandusky for 22 years. After his retirement, he moved to North Idaho. He served in the Navy during World War II and Korea. He retired in 1974 from the Civil Service as supervisor of food service. He was a registered member of the Chickasaw Nation. He attended Paramount Terrace Christian Church. He married Juanita King in 1943 at Amarillo. Survivors include his wife; four daughters, Sue Oglesby of Fritch, Angela Gustin of San Angelo, and Charlita Bynum Kosechata and Toni Williams, both of Amarillo; three sons, Alberto Shipman of Plano, and Allen Shipman and Weldon Lynn Bynum, both of Amarillo; 15 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. The family will be at 2501 S. Browning. Ken L. Young Jr. Ken L. Young Jr., 53, of Amarillo, died Monday, Jan. 5, 1998. He moved to Amarillo in 1960 and was a 1962 graduate of Palo Duro High School. He received an economics degree from the University of Houston. He served in Vietnam with the Navy air program. He retired as a commander of the Naval Reserve. He owned and operated A&R Star Pest Control until his retirement. After retirement, he moved to Rio Dulce, Guatemala. Mr. Young was a Baptist. Survivors include his parents, Kenneth and Bette Young of Fritch; a sister, Carolyn J. Hulen of Amarillo; and his grandmothers, Marie Glover of Panhandle and Maidel Hipp of Hot Springs Village, Ark. The family will be at 906 Plains in Fritch. They request memorials be to Crown of Texas Hospice. Dorothy Jo Chambers Dorothy Jo Chambers, 56, of Amarillo, died Tuesday, Jan. 6, 1998. Cremation will be by Memorial Park Crematory. Mrs. Chambers was born in Amarillo. She grew up in Sweeny and graduated from Sweeny High School in 1959. She received her bachelor's degree from the University of Texas at Austin in 1963. She moved to Amarillo in 1963. In 1967, she earned her master's degree from West Texas State University. Mrs. Chambers was employed by the State Health Department from 1963 until 1967, by the Bushland Experimental Station in 1967 and by the Kilgore Research Center at West Texas State University in 1967. She had been an instructor at Amarillo College since 1979. At the time of her death, she was chairperson of the biology department, a position she had held since 1994. Mrs. Chambers was a member of AAMS, TCCTA, Zeta Delta Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma International Society for Women Teachers and the National Science Teachers Association. She married Douglas Chambers in 1964 at Stinnett. Survivors include her husband; a son, Donn Chambers of Austin; a daughter, Darla Caldwell of Amarillo; her parents, Rodney and Grace Harmond of Wharton; a brother, Ronald Harmond of Katy; a sister, Zola Marie Lander of Sugar Land; and two grandchildren. She retired as a self-employed hairdresser. She was a member of Central Church of Christ. She married Charles Thompson in 1945 at Arapaho, Okla. She was preceded in death by a son, Sherman Frank Thomas, in 1974. Jay Glenn Tompkins TUCUMCARI, N.M. - Jay Glenn Tompkins, 98, died Sunday, Jan. 4, 1998. Mr. Tompkins was born in Horton, Mo., and moved to New Mexico around 1909. He was a longtime rancher in the Amistad community. He was a charter member of the Cowboy Hall of Fame in Oklahoma City. He was a member of the New Mexico Cattle Growers Association and also of the National Cattle Growers Association. He was a member of the Church of Christ of Logan. Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth; two sons, Howard Tompkins of Amistad and Dr. Jim Tompkins of Tucumcari; a daughter, Virginia Tompkins of Tucumcari; eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren. The body will be available for viewing at the Dunn Funeral Home. Emilio Ortega CLOVIS, N.M. - Emilio Ortega, 87, died Tuesday, Jan. 6, 1998. Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. today in The Chapel. Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in The Chapel with Dr. James R. Burke officiating. Burial will be in Mission Garden Of Memories by Muffley Funeral Home. Mr. Ortega was born in Dilia. He moved to Clovis in 1965. He was employed as a laborer by Excel for 12 years and was one of the oldest ranchers in the Anton Chico area. He attended Iglesia Bautista Belen. He married Bersabe Ortiz in 1935 at Anton Chico. She preceded him in death. Survivors include five daughters, Emma Jaramillo of Anton Chico, Mary Finch of Baton Rouge, La., Theresa Jaramillo of Clovis, Amelia Bell of Broken Arrow, Okla., Helen Payne of Anchorage, Alaska; a son, Nick Ortega of Lovington; a granddaughter, Patsy Sanchez of Edgewood; two sisters; 26 grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.
