Ball DUMAS - Henry C. Ball, 76, died Friday, July 3, 1988. Services will be at 11 a.m. today in Price-Jackson Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Jesse Dea, minister of First United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Quanah Memorial Park. Mr. Ball was born in Henderson County. He graduated from Quanah High School in 1940. He was an Army veteran of World War II, serving in Sicily, Naples-Foggia, Rome-Arno, Normandy, northern France, Rhineland and Central Europe. He graduated from Texas Tech University in 1950 and taught school in Texas, Colorado and Kansas. After taking an early retirement from teaching, he worked for the Forest Service in Grand Mesa, Colo. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church and Lamesa Lodge 909 AF&AM. Survivors include two daughters, Debbie Willis and Chris Voelker, both of Dumas; a son, Russell C. Ball of Lamesa; a sister, Evelyn Ball of Quanah; two brothers, Harold Ball of Quanah and John R. Ball of Georgetown; five grandchildren; and a great-grandson. Ralph W. Pendergast PLAINVIEW - Ralph W. Pendergast, 79, died Saturday, July 4, 1998. Services will be at 11 a.m. today in First United Methodist Church with Dr. Max Browning, pastor of First United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Parklawn Memorial Gardens by Lemons Funeral Home. Mr. Pendergast was born in Limon, Colo., and was raised in Massachusetts. He lived in Prescott, Ark. from 1941 to 1946. He worked at and managed the Kiker Service Station in Plainview from 1946 to 1953. He worked as an independent paint contractor from 1954 to 1969. From 1970 to 1979, he owned and operated Ralph's Deep Rock Service Station. He worked in Plainview Independent School District's maintenance department from 1980 until retiring in 1996. He was a member of First United Methodist Church. He was a gatekeeper at the Bulldog games. He married Peggy Williams in 1946 at Plainview. Survivors include his wife; a son, Ray Pendergast of Plainview; two brothers, Thomas McKinnon and Ralph McKinnon, both of Prescott; four sisters, Mildred Manning of Lawrence, Ark., Mary Lou Cobb of Texarkana, Ark., and Judy Martin and Joan Barton, both of Prescott; and two granddaughters. Diane Kay Dillon STINNETT - Diane Kay Dillon, 44, died Sunday, July 5, 1998. Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Minton / Chatwell Funeral Directors Memorial Chapel in Borger. Mrs. Dillon was born in Houston and lived most of her life in Stinnett and the Panhandle area. She was an Army veteran of the Vietnam War. She was the first woman to graduate from the Army's heavy vehicle driving course. She married Russell Dillon in 1990 at Borger. Survivors include her husband; three sons, Jim Fowler and Trace Fowler, both of Arkadelphia, Ark., and Shawn Dillon of Borger; two daughters, Shara Smith of Arkadelphia and Chrystal Love of Borger; and six grandchildren. Greg Horn PETERSBURG - Greg Horn, 17, died Sunday, July 5, 1998. Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in First Baptist Church of Petersburg with the Rev. John Lowrie, pastor, and the Rev. Orville Rogers, pastor of First Baptist Church of Stinnett, officiating. Burial will be in Petersburg Cemetery by Lemons Funeral Home of Plainview. Mr. Horn was born in Lubbock where he attended schools until moving to Petersburg in 1992. He was to be a senior at Petersburg High School where he was All District Football and Basketball, played golf and was involved in track. He was employed as a life guard. Mr. Horn was the top student in his class and was to receive the Lone Star Farmer Award. He was a member of FFA, president of the Petersburg Student Body, and competed in UIL competition. He was a member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes and the First Baptist Church youth group. Survivors include his parents, John and Nancy Horn of Petersburg; a brother, Jeff Horn of Plainview; a sister, Katy Horn of Petersburg; and his grandparents, the Rev. Gene and Louise Hawkins of Lubbock and Bob and Dorothy Gard of Dallas. Viewing will be from 10 a.m. until time of service Wednesday at the church. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday in First Baptist Church of Wheeler with the Rev. Toby Henson, pastor, and the Rev. James Conner, retired, of First Baptist Church Kelton, officiating. Burial will be in Wheeler Cemetery by Wright Funeral Home. Local arrangements are by Brooks Funeral Directors of Canyon. Mr. Killingsworth was born in Shamrock. He farmed in Beckham County, Okla., until he moved to Kelton in 1937. After his retirement in 1974, he moved to Wheeler. He married Pauline Hill in 1926 at Erick. Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Paula Weltry of Hereford; three sons, Carroll Killingsworth of Amarillo, Kenneth Killingsworth of Shamrock and Jerry Killingsworth of Wheeler; a brother, Roland of Anaheim, Calif.; a sister, Blanche Smith of Erick; eight grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and three great-great grandchildren. Services will be at 11 a.m. today in River Road Baptist Church with the Rev. Michael Carter, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery by Rector Funeral Home, 2800 S. Osage St. Mr. Davis was born in Amarillo. He graduated from Tascosa High School in 1965. He was a self-employed carpenter. He was a member of River Road Baptist Church and the Amarillo Racing Pigeons Club. He married Bonita Ballew in 1988 in Amarillo. Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Jacie Davis of the home and Julie Williams of Arlington; a son, Jimmy Warren Davis of Temple; his mother, Juanita Davis of Amarillo; two sisters, Carolyn Davis and Marilyn Schmidt, both of Amarillo; and four grandchildren. Reed, 91, of Aurora, Colo., died Saturday, July 4, 1998. She was a past member of San Jacinto Baptist Church. She was employed as a professional secretary. She was married to John D. Reed for 50 years. He died in 1980. Survivors include two sons, John Reed of Aurora and Jim Reed of Shreveport, La.; four grandchildren; and eight greatgrandchildren. Barbara Perkins Thomas Barbara Perkins Thomas, 63, of Amarillo, died Monday, July 6, 1998. Funeral mass will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday in Schooler Funeral Home, Brentwood Chapel, 4100 S. Georgia St. Burial will be in Llano Mausoleum. Mrs. Thomas was born in Austin and grew up in Amarillo. She attended Woodrow Wilson, Elizabeth Nixon and Amarillo high schools. She moved to Houston in 1955 for 10 years then moved to the Dallas-Plano area for 17 years. She returned to the Panhandle area in 1984. In Dallas, Mrs. Thomas was active in the choir at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church and a member of Our Lady's Altar Society. She was a homemaker. She married Jack Thomas in 1958 at Houston. Survivors include her husband; a daughter, Jamie Parks of Brownfield; two brothers, Jim H. Perkins of Canyon and Tom D. Perkins of Rancho Cordova, Calif.; and two grandsons. Oklahoma Thelma Jean Allen HOOKER, Okla. - Thelma Jean Allen, 70, died Sunday, July 5, 1998. Services will be at 2 p.m. today in the Hooker Church of Christ with Leon Talley of Friona, Texas, former minister, officiating. Burial will be in the Hooker Cemetery by Roberts Brothers Funeral Home. Mrs. Allen was born in Hooker. She attended Hooker schools, graduating in 1946. She was a homemaker and helped on the farm. She was a member of the Hooker Church of Christ. She married Earnie A. Allen in 1946. He died in 1979. Survivors include a son, Jerry Dean Allen of Hooker; a daughter, Linda Coffman of Hooker; two sisters, Wilma Raff of Hooker and June Warden of Austin, Texas; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Services were held Friday, July 3, in Rose Chapel of Sayre with Andy Taylor, officiating. Burial was in Sayre-Doxey Cemetery by Rose Chapel Funeral Service. Mr. West was born in Sayre where he attended school. He was a veteran of the Army and served in Europe. He lived in Amarillo and White Deer, Texas before returning to Sayre in 1967. He retired as an auto and farm equipment mechanic. Survivors include his mother, Carrie West of Sayre; five sisters, Berta Hillman of White Deer, Donna Firquain of Ardmore, Sondra Stephens of Amarillo and Paula Ashton and Brenda McKibben, both of Sayre; and four brothers, Ben West and Jerry West, both of Sayre, and Loren West and George West, both of Amarillo. Elsewhere Dr. Bill Davis AUSTIN - Dr. Bill Davis, 66, died Wednesday, July 1, 1998. Services were held at 10 a.m. Friday, July 3, in Cook-Waldron Forest Oakes Funeral Home at Austin. Dr. Davis was born in Spearman. He graduated from Spearman High School in 1948. He received his doctorate degree from Oklahoma State University at Stillwater in 1960. He was a member of the Angel of Light Spiritual Church and of the Masonic Lodge of Stillwater. He was a supporter of Tough Love. Dr. Davis was a founder and former owner of Texas Urethane, an Austin based insulation Company. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Katie. Survivors include his wife, Jamie; four children, Stanley of Waco, Kathy and Kimmie, both of Austin and Trey of Enid, Okla.; two brothers, Irvin of Spearman and Dub of Austin; a sister, Gwendolyn Smith of Spearman. Cynthia Bearden ABILENE - Cynthia Bearden, 28, died Friday, July 3, 1998 in Lubbock. Services will be at 11 a.m. today in Sanders Funeral Home Memorial Chapel in Lubbock with the Rev. Dave Treat of Asbury United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will be in Resthaven Memorial Park Cemetery in Lubbock. Ms. Bearden was born in Lubbock and moved to Abilene in 1975. She graduated from Cooper High School and attended Wylie United Methodist Church. Survivors include her daughter, Adriana Dione Bearden of Lubbock; her parents, Mary Bearden of Lubbock and Harlan F. Bearden of Abilene; two brothers, Glenn F. Bearden of Amarillo and Kevin R. Bearden of Lubbock; and her grandmother, Nettie Edwards of Lubbock. Guydelle Vineyard Winters AUSTIN - Guydelle Vineyard Winters, 96, died Monday, July 6, 1998. Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday in First Baptist Church with Dr. Browning Ware and the Rev. Don Searles officiating. Burial will be in Austin Memorial Park by Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home. Mrs. Winters was born and raised in Amarillo. She attended Mary Hardin Baylor College and Hardin Simmons University. She was a member of First Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School for many years. She was a member of PEO and the Austin Women's Club. She married John H. Winters in 1921. He preceded her in death. Survivors include a son, Sam Winters of Austin; a brother, George S. Vineyard of Georgia; a sister, Mary Mildred Andrews of Clovis, N.M.; a granddaughter; and three great-grandchildren. The family requests memorials be to Jane Winters Scholarship Fund at St. Andrews Episcopal School. Linda Marie Messer ATHENS - Linda Marie Messer, 48, died Monday, July 6, 1998. Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Eastern Hills Church of Christ in Athens. Arrangements are by Carroll-Lehr Funeral Home. Mrs. Messer was born in Amarillo and raised in Panhandle. She was a therapist for Early Children Services with the state of Texas in Sweetwater. With her husband, she was a house parent in a children's home for two years. She also lived in Amarillo, Fort Worth and Athens. A minister's wife, Mrs. Messer was active in the church as a Bible School teacher, Sunday School teacher, working on retreats and with small groups ministries, gospel singing, Angel Keepers and Babies Ministries. She taught in high schools in Czechoslovakia. She married Eddie Messer in 1967. She was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Kindra Messer. Survivors include her husband; three sons, Doug Messer of San Saba, Paul Messer of Abilene and David Messer of Lubbock; a daughter, Alaina Messer of Athens; her mother, May Park of Sweetwater; a brother, Robert Park of Lubbock; and a grandson.
