Eula L. Cross PERRYTON - Eula L. Cross, 87, died Sunday, May 31, 1998. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday in Boxwell Brothers Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Michael Waterbury officiating. Burial will be at 3 p.m. Monday in Llano Cemetery in Amarillo. Mrs. Cross was born in Gray, Okla. She moved to Perryton 10 years ago from Amarillo. She and her husband operated Neals Cafe until his death. She also was employed as a clerk by Blackburn's. She married Neal Cross who died in 1968. Kinsey of Hideville, Wyo. Dolores Lopez MORTON - Dolores Lopez, 79, of Van Horn, died Friday, June 5, 1998. Graveside services were at 2 p.m. Saturday in Morton Memorial Cemetery. Arrangements were by Ellis Funeral Home of Muleshoe. Mrs. Lopez was born in Mexico. She moved to Van Horn in 1970. She was a homemaker. She married Thomas Lopez in 1937 at Mexico. Johnnie Williams MEMPHIS - Johnnie "Jake" Williams, 82, died Friday, June 5, 1998. Mr. Williams was born in Lindsay, Okla. He was a World War II veteran, having served with the 62nd Fighter Squadron in the European / African theater. He also was a military policeman. He was a member of the Church of Christ. He married Mattie Lee Tiffie in 1940 at Estelline. Burial will be in Plainview Memorial Park by Lemons Funeral Home. Mr. Horan was born in Nebraska. He was raised in Perryton and was a 1934 graduate of Perryton High School. He moved to Plainview in 1945 and farmed. He began working in the dairy business in 1954, where he worked for 19 years. He moved to Edmonson in 1982 and retired from farming in 1994. He had been active in the Plainview Fat Stock Show since the 1950s and was past vice president of Farm Bureau. He was a member of First Baptist Church. He married Margaret George in 1937 at Perryton. Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Kathy Norris of Edmonson; a son, Roger Horan of Plainview; a brother, Roger Horan of McGee, Ark.; two sisters, Verna Paddock of Kinsley, Kan., and Doris McCorstin of Sherman; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. Theresa Rietmann Bellinghausen UMBARGER - Theresa Rietmann Bellinghausen, 89, died Friday, June 5, 1998, at Canyon. Mrs. Bellinghausen was born in St. John, Ind. She attended school in St. Florian, Ala. She had lived in Alabama, Arkansas and Texas. She married Gilbert W. Bellinghausen in 1946 at Charleston, Ark. She moved to Hale Center in 1925 and she and her husband settled near Happy in 1946 and farmed. She moved to Canyon in 1956 where she worked at the college cafeteria, Foster's Laundry and for Canyon Independent School District cafeteria, retiring in 1974. She was a member of St. Ann's Catholic Church at Canyon. Survivors include two nieces, Mary Grabber of Umbarger and Amelia Furlow of Lamesa; and a nephew, Joe Rietmann of Charleston, Ark. Lloyd Everett Harris FOLLETT - Lloyd Everett Harris, 88, died Friday, June 5, 1998. Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday in United Methodist Church with the Rev. Scott Richards and the Rev. Clay Wells officiating. Burial will be in the Fairmont Cemetery by Mason Funeral Home of Shattuck, Okla. Mr. Harris was born in Woodward County, Okla. He was raised in the Follett area and graduated from Follett High School. He attended West Texas State University for two years before beginning his teaching career in Cope School, a rural Lipscomb County School. He taught there for three years and one year at Follett schools before returning to WT to finish his degree. The following year, he taught in Higgins for one year. In 1938 he moved to Tahoka to teach for a year and then to Lamesa for three years. During the summer months, he farmed on the rented G.S. Lively land at Follett, which he had farmed since 1937. He was called to active duty in 1942 and served in the 18th Seabee Construction Battalion attached to the Second Marine Division, serving in the Southwest Pacific. He returned to the United States after serving 39 months. He returned to Follett where he continued to farm and ranch. For many years, he served on the Follett School Board, the Farmers' Grain Board and the Cemetery Association. He married Irene Higgins in 1942. Survivors include his wife; a son, Dennis Harris of Spearman; a daughter, Patricia Brown of Stratford; a brother, Riley Harris of Follett; two sisters, Lois Otey of Dallas and Melba Schug of Denver; and two grandchildren. He married Laverne Lewis in 1946 in Stratford. She was a member of Grand Avenue Baptist Church and had been a member of Antioch Baptist Church at Hollis over 50 years. Survivors include a daughter, Mary Abercrombie of Amarillo; two sisters, Hattie Storrs of Kerrville and Jessie Trammell of Hollis; four grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. Ione Cooley Ponce Ione Cooley Ponce, 90, of Amarillo, died Wednesday, June 3, 1998. Cremation was handled by N.S. Griggs & Sons Funeral Directors, 2615 Paramount Blvd. Mrs. Ponce was born in Conchos County, N.M. She worked as a registered nurse for 70 years. She had been a member of First Baptist Church over 70 years. Her husband, Tom W. Ponce, died in 1959. Survivors include two nieces, Francis O. He attended Amarillo College and Oklahoma City University where he majored in theater arts and radio/television. He spent several years as a professional actor before returning to radio broadcasting in Amarillo. He retired from broadcasting in 1992. He married Sue Looten in 1986 in Amarillo. Survivors include his wife; a son, Kelly Troy of Austin; a stepson, Daryl Dorsey of Amarillo; a stepdaughter, Erin Dorsey of Dallas; a sister, Kathy Reams of Amarillo; and two grandchildren. Osage St. Mr. Morgan was born in Sweetwater, Tenn., and moved to Amarillo in 1977 from Clewiston, Fla. He was a Navy veteran of World War II, where he served on the USS Bismarck Sea Escort Carrier, when it was sunk by a Japanese Kamikaze pilot in the China Sea off of Iwo Jima. He moved to Florida in 1949 from Tennessee. He worked for the U.S. Sugar Corp. and retired as a veterans service officer for Hendry County, Fla. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Clewiston and attended Calvary Gospel Tabernacle in Amarillo. He was a member of the Woodsmen of America and a former member of the Golden Spread Gem and Mineral Society. He married Mary M. "Inez" Duckett in 1944 at Daldon, Ga. She died in 1997. Survivors include a daughter, Karen Morgan Arant of Fort Motte, S.C.; two sons, Donavon Morgan of Amarillo and Ronald Morgan of Orlando, Fla.; and two grandchildren. Paula Doche Paula Doche, 65, of Amarillo, died Friday, June 5, 1998. Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Monday in First Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Murray Gossett officiating. She retired from the Amarillo Globe-News as the head of the telemarketing department. She also had worked for Schooler-Gordon in the pre-need telemarketing department. She retired in April from Blackburn-Shaw where she also worked in the pre-need telemarketing department. She was a Presbyterian. Survivors include two daughters, Melanie Aversona of Bridgehamton, Wyo., and Kimberly Lane of Amarillo; two sons, Jimmy Doche and John Doche, both of Amarillo; and two grandchildren. The family requests memorials be to the Amarillo Humane Society. They will receive friends at 1602 Julian Blvd. after services. Aaron L. Garrett Aaron L. Garrett, 83, of Amarillo, died Friday, June 5, 1998. Services will be at 3 p.m. Monday in Memorial Park Funeral Home, Chapel of Memories, 6969 E. Interstate 40 with the chaplain of the Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center officiating. Entombment will be in the East Mausoleum. Mr. Garrett was born in Crowell. He retired from the Air Force in 1967 at Keeglin Air Force Base. He had been employed for the city water department for several years. Survivors include a brother, Cecil E. Garrett of Amarillo. Gary Kenneth Powell Gary Kenneth Powell, 58, of Amarillo, died Friday, June 5, 1998, at his home south of Canyon. A gathering of family and friends will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday in the Powell home. Arrangements are by Services Blackburn-Shaw Funeral Directors, Fifth Avenue and Pierce Street. Cremation was by Memory Gardens Crematory. Mr. Powell was born in Berkeley, Calif. He graduated from the University of California, Berkeley with a degree in business administration as well as bachelor's and master's degree in Criminology. He began his career as a probation officer in Alameda County, Calif., and ended in 1995 when he retired from the Federal Probation office in Amarillo. He had been a suicide crisis volunteer for many years, as well as a licensed drug and alcohol counselor. Mr. Powell was a member of the Panhandle Trailrider's Association, Federal Probation Officer's Association and Texas Association of Drug Abuse Counselors. After his retirement, he worked part time as a counselor at the Youth State Center of the High Plains, volunteered at the state prison in Tulia and taught Rational Behavior Training at Amarillo College. He married Serena Anna Edgar in 1963. Survivors include his wife; three daughters, Dody Bernal of Paradise, Calif., Carolyn Powell of Everett, Wash., and Nancy McKinney of Canyon; a son, Jim Powell of Everett; his mother, Betty Powell of California; a sister, Michaele Call of California; and a granddaughter. Burial will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery. Mr. Vasquez was born in Travis County and moved to Amarillo in 1945, where he lived for 40 years. He began a landscaping business retiring in 1992 as a landscape architect and moving to Arlington. He had been a member of First Assembly of God Church of Amarillo and also of Primera Iglesia Bautista of Arlington. Survivors include his wife, Angela Flores; three sons, Johnny Vasquez of Amarillo and David T. Vasquez and Dan R. Vasquez, both of Arlington; a daughter, Naomi Eakins of Arlington; a stepdaughter, Louise Vasquez of Arlington; four brothers, Marcilino and Ben Vasquez, both of Austin, Erineo Vasquez of Waxahachie and John Vasquez of Oakland, Calif.; and a sister, Trinidad Alvrdo of Austin. Visitation will be from 6 until 8 p.m. today at the funeral home. Doris G. Coker Doris G. Coker, 80, of Amarillo, a former Fort Worth resident, died Friday, June 5, 1998. Services will be at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday in Oakhurst Presbyterian Church at Fort Worth, 2001 Bonnie Brae, with the Rev. Darren Hawkins, pastor, officiating. She retired from the Texas Department of Human Services in 1982. She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star Chapter 982 of Haltom City and had been a member of Oakhurst Presbyterian Church since 1952. She held several offices in Presbyterian Women at the local and Presbytery level. She married Leonard Conway Coker in 1938 at Durant. He preceded her in death in 1968. Survivors include a daughter, Janice Hamilton of Amarillo; a son, Charles Coker of Virginia Beach, Va.; a brother, Lloyd Gosdin of Denison; a sister, Patricia Kelley of Chula Vista, Calif.; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Henry, 82, a former resident of Amarillo, died Tuesday, June 2, 1998. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Monday in Memorial Park Cemetery in Amarillo. Arrangements are by Kammann Mortuary in Yuma. Mrs. Henry was born in Nanticoke, Pa. She graduated from the Columbia School of Nursing and received her bachelor of arts degree in nursing from West Texas State University. She moved to Yuma in 1989. She was employed as a registered nurse at Northwest Texas Hospital. She retired in 1981 after more than 20 years as a licensed vocational nurse instructor at Amarillo College. She was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church and a past member of National League of Nursing. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert A. Henry. Survivors include a daughter, Patricia Roland of Yuma; a sister, Irene Kutchta of Valley Stream, N.Y.; a brother, Nicholas Paulus of Bristol, Pa.; and two granddaughters. She married Richard L. Horn in 1949 at Joliet, Ill. They lived in Limestone, Ill., then farmed in Cabery, Ill., for 25 years. She moved to Portales in 1986. Horn of Cullom, Ill., and Don Horn of Rankin, Ill.; two daughters, Deborah Sabbah of Boling Brook, Ill., and Marilyn Rapp of Portales; and nine grandchildren. Richard Edwin Wood CLOVIS, N.M. - Richard Edwin Wood, 63, died Sunday, May 17, 1998. Memorial services will be at a later date in West Virginia. Local arrangements were by Wheeler Mortuary of Portales. Mr. Wood was born in West Virginia. He enlisted in the Air Force in 1951 and retired after 21 years of active duty as a master sergeant. Cleo Gutierrez BELEN, N.M. - Cleo Gutierrez, 86, died Friday, June 5, 1998. Rosary will be recited at 6 p.m. today in Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Community. Mrs. Gutierrez was born in Santa Rosa. She was a homemaker and a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Community. She married Antonio B. Gutierrez in 1934. He preceded her in death. Survivors include two daughters, Annie Garcia of Belen and Julia Maestas of Clovis; three sons, Tony Gutierrez of Belen and Lacho Gutierrez and Robert Gutierrez, both of Clovis; a sister, Chonita Romero of Albuquerque; a brother, David Crespin of Albuquerque; 29 grandchildren; 40 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
