Services will be at 10 a.m. today in First Baptist Church with Dr. Howard K. Batson, senior pastor, and Dr. Chester O'Brien, retired Baptist minister, officiating. Military honors will be conducted by Cannon Air Force Base honor guard. Masonic graveside rites will be at 11 a.m. Monday in Hillview Memorial Garden in Farmington, Mo. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2820 Virginia Circle. Mr. Herring was born in Colony, Kan. He began his military career with the Army Air Corps as a bombardier in the 15th Air Force during World War II. He retired in 1965 from Amarillo Air Force Base. During his career, Herring received the Purple Heart, Air Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster, Good Conduct Medal, American Campaign Medal, Distinguished Flying Cross, Campaign and Service Medal, Army of Occupation Medal, Middle Eastern Campaign Medal, the Bronze Star and the Armed Forces Reserve Medal. After his military career, he worked at First National Bank, where he served as vice president, retiring in 1987. He was a member and deacon at First Baptist Church and was a 50-year Mason. He married Julie Mott in 1991 in Amarillo. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Flora Mae, in 1984. Survivors include his wife; four daughters, Charlotte Walsh, Sharon Taylor and Angie Bagwell, all of Amarillo, and Debbie Hudler of Houston; a brother, Kenneth Herring of Yates Center, Kan.; and nine grandchildren. The family suggests memorials be to Baptist St. Anthony's Hospice and Life Enrichment Center, Box 950, Amarillo, TX 79176. Felipa Oberbrockling Felipa "Phyllis" Oberbrockling, 61, of Amarillo, died Thursday, Nov. 5, 1998. Services will be at 3 p.m. today in Memory Gardens Mausoleum. Arrangements are by Schooler-Gordon Funeral Directors, 5400 Bell St. Mrs. Oberbrockling was born in San Jon, N.M. She had been employed by several dry cleaners in Amarillo. She was preceded in death by a son, Ben Oberbrockling, in 1988. Survivors include her husband, Bernard; two sons, Michael Snell and Tim Oberbrockling, both of Amarillo; three daughters, Debbie Snell, Brenda Moctezuma and Vicky Murguia, all of Amarillo; three sisters, Annie Garcia, Mary Floyd and Ramona Rodriguez, all of Amarillo; 13 grandchildren; and a great-grandchild. The family suggests memorials be to Baptist St. Anthony's Hospice and Life Enrichment Center. William C. Hicks William C. Hicks, 82, of Amarillo, died Wednesday, Nov. 4, 1998. Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Monday in Memorial Park Cemetery with the Rev. Allen Norris officiating. Arrangements are by Colonial Funeral Chapel, 1010 W. Ninth Ave. Mr. Hicks was born in Lenape, Kan. He was employed as a plumber's laborer. He was preceded in death by his wife, Effie, earlier this year. He is survived by two sisters, Virginia Hensroth and Jackie Mitchell, both of Amarillo. New Mexico Mike Sosa FARWELL - Mike Sosa, 68, died Thursday, Nov. 5, 1998. Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Sunday in San Jose Catholic Church. Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday in San Jose Catholic Church at Texico, N.M., by the Rev. Daniel Balizan. Burial will be in Sunset Terrace by Muffley Funeral Home of Clovis, N.M. Mr. Sosa was born in Hidalgo, Mexico. He married Anastacia Rivera in 1963 at Mission. They moved to Farwell and the Texas Panhandle area in 1964. He was a farm laborer and a member of San Jose Catholic Church. Survivors include his wife; four sons, Mike Sosa Jr. of Farwell, Ramiro Sosa, Tony Sosa and Dickey Sosa, all of Lubbock; a daughter, Nancy Sosa of Lubbock; and 10 grandchildren. Lela Miller CLOVIS, N.M. - Lela Miller, 89, died Thursday, Nov. 5, 1998. Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday in Elida United Methodist Church with the Rev. Donna Kay Jackson and Ronald Anthony officiating. Burial will be in Elida Cemetery by Wheeler Mortuary of Portales. Mrs. Miller was born in Weinert, Texas, and spent most of her early life in Oklahoma. She moved with her family to Ralls, Texas, when she was a teen-ager. After her marriage, Mrs. Miller lived in Oklahoma and then moved to Littlefield. They moved to Elida in 1931 and then relocated to a ranch south of Elida where they lived until 1983 when they moved to Portales. Mrs. Miller was active in the Elida Senior Citizens and square dancing groups. She was in numerous fairs and exhibitions where she danced on foot and horseback. She attended the First United Methodist Church of Elida. She married Joe Miller in 1925 at Ralls. He preceded her in death in 1995. Survivors include a brother, Olen Perryman of Lubbock, Texas; and two sisters, Irma Pepper of Estelline, Texas, and Gladys Swim of Ralls. Oklahoma Beverly Jean Claycomb GUYMON, Okla. - Beverly Jean "Jackie" Claycomb, 56, died Wednesday, Nov. 4, 1998. Services will be at 2 p.m. today in Bunch-Roberts Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Charles Mendenhall of Victory Center officiating. Burial will be in Elmhurst Cemetery. Mrs. Claycomb was born in Seattle and moved to Guymon in 1990 from Arnett. She attended Guymon schools. She was a member of the Morning Star Methodist Church and attended the Victory Center. She married James Claycomb in 1990 at Stratford, Texas. He died in May. She also was preceded in death by a daughter, Mykel Ann Suthers. Survivors include her mother, Dorothy D. Fleming of Guymon; six children, Jim Pierce of Guymon, Troy Pierce of Oklahoma City, Carla King of Vernon, Texas, Leah Davis of McCloud, Chance Suthers and Blake Suthers, both of Arnett; a brother, David Fleming of Missouri; two sisters, Tammy Bowling and Peggy Fleming, both of Missouri; and 10 grandchildren. Kimball, 65, died Thursday, Nov. 5, 1998. Service will be at 10 a.m. Monday in the Bunch-Roberts Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Odie Nunley officiating. Burial will be at 4 p.m. in the Fairlawn Cemetery at Elk City. Mr. Kimball was born in Elk City. He was a Navy veteran serving in the Far East during the Korean War and was a past member of the Guymon Elks Lodge. He married Joy Johnson in 1956 in Oklahoma City. They moved to Guymon in 1962 from Dalhart, Texas. He began working for General Telephone in 1960, retiring in 1991 as facility assignor. Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Cindy Mowry of Hoxie, Kan.; a son, Mike Kimball of Colorado Springs, Colo.; and four grandchildren. Mary Paulson ENID, Okla. - Mary Paulson, 70, a former resident of Pampa, Texas, died Thursday, Nov. 5, 1998. Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday in Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors Colonial Chapel at Pampa, with the Rev. Lynn Hancock, pastor of Briarwood Full Gospel Church of Pampa, officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery in Pampa. Mrs. Paulson was born in Bonham, Texas, and moved to Enid in 1995 from Pampa where she had lived since 1952. She was a Church of Christ member. She married Vernon H. Paulson in 1949 in Bonham. He died in 1990. She was preceded in death by two daughters, Becky Mae Brooks in 1979 and Audrey Stone in 1997. Survivors include a daughter, Kathy Phillips of Enid; three sons, Ronnie Paulson of Las Vegas, David Paulson of Pampa and Vernon Paulson of Van Buren, Ark.; 15 grandchildren; and 14 greatgrandchildren. Arrangements are by Jerry Woods Funeral Home of Nocona. Mrs. Adams was born in Hall County and was a longtime resident of Bullhead, Ariz. She married Donald V. Adams in 1947. He preceded her in death. Survivors include a brother and sisterin-law, Harry and Hannah Lookingbill of Friona; and a a sister-in-law, Eva Lookingbill of Summerfield. Richard Fredrick Bertram Sr. MATHIS - Richard Fredrick Bertram Sr., 63, died Thursday, Nov. 5, 1998. Graveside services will be at 3 p.m. today in Cenizo Hill Cemetery in Mathis with the Rev. Stanley Nixon officiating. Arrangements are by Dobie Funeral Home of Mathis. Mr. Bertram was born in Elizabeth, La., and lived in Amarillo until three years ago when he moved to Mathis. He retired as construction superintendent for an industrial coal power plant. He was a Baptist. Survivors include his wife, Patricia; a son, Richard F. Bertram Jr. of Amarillo; four daughters, Debra Bertram of Alexandria, La., Jane Kaye Scott of Kingsville, Carrie Lynn Ford of Mathis and Joni Anthony of Clovis, N.M.; his mother, Ouida Bertram of Alexandria, La.; a sister, Wanda Hurst of Elizabeth; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Area Mary E. Smith OLTON - Mary E. Smith, 88, died Wednesday, Nov. 4, 1998. Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday in First Baptist Church with the Rev. Kyle Streun, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Plainview Memorial Park in Plainview by Foskey-Lilley-McGill Funeral Home. Mrs. Smith was born in Elida, N.M., and moved to Olton in 1926. She graduated from Olton High School and attended Texas Tech University and Wayland Baptist College in Plainview. She was a member of Olton First Baptist Church. She married William B. Smith in 1936 at Dallas. Survivors include her husband; a daughter, Hazel E. Bonner of Springfield, Va.; a son, Billy Roy Smith of Duncanville; three grandchildren; and a greatgranddaughter. The family suggests memorials be to Runningwater Draw Care Center, P.O. Box 409, Olton, TX 79064. Josephine Mitchell MULESHOE - Josephine Mitchell, 71, died Tuesday, Nov. 3, 1998. Services will be at 11 a.m. today in Trinity Baptist Church with the Rev. John Nunley, pastor, and the Rev. E. McFrazier officiating. Burial will be in Muleshoe Memorial Park by McCarty Funeral Home of Littlefield. Mrs. Mitchell was born in Angus and had lived in Muleshoe for 36 years. She had been a teacher for a number of years in the Muleshoe Independent School District. She was a member of St. Matthew Baptist Church and the Retired Teachers Association. She played piano for her church and other churches. She also had been a member of Macedonia Baptist Church in Anton and Mount Olive Baptist Church of Corsicana. She married George Mitchell in 1953 at Corsicana. Survivors include her husband; three sons, George Allen Mitchell of Arlington, Larry Mitchell of Amarillo and Andrew Blair of Littlefield; a daughter, Lula Brown of Lubbock; two brothers, Robert Blair of Dallas and Oliver Blair of San Pablo, Calif.; a sister, Maggie Walker of DeSoto; 11 grandchildren; and 11 greatgrandchildren. Evylena Huckabee DUMAS - Evylena Huckabee, 82, died Thursday, Nov. 5, 1998. Services will be at 10 a.m. today in First Street Church of Christ with Art Lynch, minister, officiating. Additional services will be at 3:30 p.m. today in City Park Church of Christ in Floydada with burial in Floydada Cemetery. Arrangements are by Morrison Funeral Directors. Mrs. Huckabee was born in Randlett, Okla., and was a longtime Floydada resident. She lived in Hereford from 1957 until moving to Dumas in 1967. She was a homemaker and member of First Street Church of Christ. She married Earl Huckabee in 1937 at Lockney. Hen died in 1983. Survivors include a daughter, Sandra Leatherman; a sister, Christine Johnson of Dallas; and two grandsons. The family will be at 210 Phillips in Dumas. Anna Lee Englant BOVINA - Anna Lee Englant, 67, died Thursday, Nov. 5, 1998. Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday in First Baptist Church with the Rev. Gary Morgan, pastor, and the Rev. Bob Webb of Burkburnett officiating. Burial will be in Bovina Cemetery by Ellis-Blackwell Funeral Home of Bovina. Mrs. Englant was born in Yell County, Ark. In 1962, she moved from Gravelly, Ark., to Bovina where she was a member of First Baptist Church. She married Floyd Englant in 1963 at San Diego. She was preceded in death by a son, Calvin James, in 1950. Walter L. Clements DUMAS - Walter L. "Red" Clements, 79, died Friday, Nov. 6, 1998. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. today in Dumas Cemetery with Willard Simmons, Church of Christ lay minister of Dumas, officiating. Arrangements are by Morrison Funeral Directors. Mr. Clements was born in Broken Bow, Okla., and was an Army veteran of World War II. A Dumas resident since 1962, he was a millwright in construction. Mr. Clements was a member of 14th and Meredith Church of Christ, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 9022 of Dumas and American Legion Post No. 224 of Dumas. He married Wavel Coym in 1950 at Pampa. Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Laura Glassman and Cindy Black of Amarillo; two sons, Leslie Clements of Dumas and Rusty Clements of Zapata; three grandsons; and five great-grandchildren. Gaylon Couch pLAINVIEW - Gaylon Couch, 73, died Thursday, Nov. 5, 1998. Services will be at 2 p.m. today in 11th and Amarillo Church of Christ with Dr. Max Browning, pastor of First United Methodist Church, and Thomas Richburg, deacon at 11th and Amarillo Church of Christ, officiating. Burial will be in Plainview Cemetery with military graveside services. Arrangements are by WoodDunning Funeral Home. Mr. Couch was born in Foley and was an Army veteran of World War II. In 1946, he moved to Plainview. He was a building contractor and worked for Larson Co., from 1975 until his retirement in 1990. Mr. Couch was a member of 11th and Amarillo Church of Christ, Veterans of Foreign Wars and American Legion. He married Evelyn Jacobs Raper in 1994 at Plainview. His first marriage was in 1947 to Marie Eugenie Borle who died in 1992. Survivors include his wife; a son, Dennis Couch of Plainview; a stepson, Kelly Raper of Houston; two grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and two stepgrandchildren. The family suggests memorials be to Hands of West Texas Hospice in Lockney.
